#2 Tony has seen the Kings over the course of this season and points out what the Kings have done to win games.

#3 The San Jose Sharks are coming off a long road trip of losing four of their last five games. They got a win in their final game on the road in Montreal but losing still hurts.

#4 The San Francisco Giants have been getting plenty of inquiries regarding pitcher Madison Bumgarner. Tony talks about Bumgarner if he’s untouchable or is he on the table too?

#5 Looking at the Oakland Raiders last loss to the Kansas City Chiefs at the Oakland Coliseum, was this more of a game that was half full? The Raiders played some close ball with the Chiefs, but in the end lost 40-33.

Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes will be a longtime problem for the Raiders

OAKLAND, Calif. — There’s no question that after watching quarterback Patrick Mahomes in his first head-to-head matchup against the Raiders, he will be a thorn in the Silver and Black’s side for years to come.

Mahomes, who completed 23-of-38 passes for 295 yards and four touchdowns, led the Chiefs to a wild 40-33 victory over the Raiders on Sunday that moved Kansas City to an AFC-best record of 10-2. Mahomes did miss a couple of deep passes to blazing wide out Tyreek Hill at various points of the game that could’ve really put the game away early for the Chiefs, but didn’t seem rattled by the 54,255 paid crowd at the Oakland-Alameda Coliseum.

Oakland’s 31st ranked defense couldn’t find any answers in stopping Mahomes and the Chiefs’ 2nd ranked offense all day, as the Raiders allowed 442 yards of total offense to the Chiefs and didn’t generate a sack against Mahomes in the contest.

After the Raiders cut Kansas City’s lead to 13-7 behind running back Doug Martin’s 1-yard touchdown shortly before halftime, Mahomes and Chiefs would run five plays in 57 seconds to drive the length of the field.

Mahomes found wide receiver Demarcus Robinson for a 38-yard catch, scrabbling the entire width of the field before going out of bounds with 12 seconds remaining in the second quarter. On the next, Mahomes would find tight end Travis Kelce on a 6-yard score for Kelce’s second touchdown of the day. Arden Key would block the extra point, keeping the score 19-7.

Kelce was the main beneficiary of Mahomes’ passes, hauling in 12 catches for 168 yards, eclipsing 1,000 yards receiving for the third-straight season.  Kelce joined Carolina Panthers tight end Greg Olsen (2014-16) as the only tight ends in NFL history to accomplish that feat per the Elias Sports Bureau.

The sixth-year tight from the University of Cincinnati rebounded nicely after fumbling on Kansas City’s first play of scrimmage following a 24-yard catch-and-run.

Mahomes has now thrown 41 touchdowns to just 11 interceptions on the season through 12 games played for Kansas City, joining future Hall of Famer Peyton Manning (44 in 2004, 41 in ’13) and Tom Brady (44 in 2007) as the only quarterbacks with at least 40 touchdowns in the first 12 games this season, according to ESPN Stats and Information Research.

With 4,207 passing yards on the season, Mahomes became the fastest quarterback in NFL history to throw for over 4,000 yards through 12 games, according to the Elias Sports Bureau.

As he continues to grow under head coach Andy Reid, one of the NFL’s best creative offensive minds,  the second-year pro in Mahomes will only get better and that much harder to stop.

The Raiders will continue to see Mahomes’ progression for years to come, having to play the Chiefs twice a season. The two teams wrap up the regular season at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City in Week 17.

OAKLAND — Whenever the Oakland Raiders and the Kansas City Chiefs meet on the football field, you can throw out the scorebook.

Patrick Mahomes joined some elite company, as he threw four touchdowns, becoming third quarterback in NFL history to throw 40 touchdown passes in 12 games and the Chiefs defeated the Raiders 40-33 before a crowd of 54,255 at the Coliseum.

The second-year quarterback out of Texas Tech joins Peyton Manning and Tom Brady as the only quarterbacks in this elite club.

Mahomes went 23-of-38 for 295 and four touchdowns, and also led the Chiefs in rushing with 52 yards rushing on nine carries.

It was just another day at the office for Travis Kelce, as he caught 12 passes for 168 yards and three of Mahomes four touchdowns.

Derek Carr threw three touchdowns, as he threw for 285 yards, as he went 29-for-38 on the afternoon.

Jalen Richard led the Raiders in rushing, as he gained 95 yards on just six carries.

Jordy Nelson led the Raiders in catches with 10, and gained 97 yards, while Jared Cook caught seven passes for 100 yards.

With the victory, the Chiefs are now 10-2, while with the loss, the Raiders fall to 2-10 on the season.

This was first game for the Chiefs without the services of their explosive running back Kareem Hunt, who was released from the team on Friday after a video showed Hunt shoved and kicked a woman back in February. TMZ released the nine-month video, and the Chiefs released the running back after he misled the organization about what occurred that night.

Things began well for the Raiders, as they recovered a fumble on the first play of the game, as Mahomes’ pass to Kelce was fumbled, and Nick Nelson recovered the ball at the Raiders 44-yard line.

Unfortunately, the Raiders could not take advantage of the early turnover and went three-and-out on their first series.

Johnny Townsend did not punt the ball long, as his punt traveled just 22 yards and the Chiefs took over at their own 35-yard line.

Tyreek Hill took the handoff and before you knew it, the speedy wide receiver picked up 33 yards down to the Raiders 32.

On the next play, Nelson, who recovered the Kelce fumble on the Raiders initial series on defense picked up an ill-advised penalty, as he picked up a pass interference penalty that gave the Chiefs the ball at the six-yard line. Arden Key then was caught in the neutral zone, and the Chiefs moved up an additional three yards.

Mahomes found Kelce for a three-yard touchdown pass to get the Chiefs on the board.

Just three plays into the Raiders next series, it abruptly came to an end, as Doug Martin fumbled the ball and Justin Houston recovered the loose ball at the Raiders 49-yard line.

The Chiefs took over, and got down to the Raiders 10-yard line, as the drive stalled there and Harrison Butker gave the Chiefs a 10-0 lead, as he hit a 29-yard field goal.

Spencer Ware, who was Hunt’s backup and will now get more of the first team reps in practice came up with the big play on the driver, as he scampered 17 yards thru the Raiders defense.

Butker stretched the Chiefs lead up to 13-0 in the second quarter, as he hit a 50-yard field goal and it looked like the rout was on, but that was not the case.

The Raiders consumed the ball for the nearly six minutes, and it ended with a Martin touchdown run from one yard out to get the Raiders on the board.

Mahomes then led the Chiefs on a quick drive that saw him connect with Kelce for the second time in the half, and the Chiefs went into the halftime break with a 19-7 lead after Butker’s extra point was blocked by Arden Key.

The Mahomes to Kelce touchdown pass was setup by Demarcus Robinson, who hauled in a Mahomes pass for 38 yards and was able to get out of bounds with 12 seconds remaining.

Daniel Carlson ended the Raiders first drive of the second half, as he nailed a 50-yard field goal to pull the Raiders within nine.

Like a game of pinball, the Chiefs marched right down the field and ended up scoring on a one-yard run to give the Chiefs a 26-10 lead.

Barely two minutes later, the Raiders cut the Chiefs down to 10, as Carr found Cook for a 24-yard touchdown pass; however, the two-point conversion run attempt by Martin came up short.

Mahomes threw his third touchdown pass of the afternoon, as he found Demetrius Harris from 13 yards out with just four seconds remaining in the third quarter. It was the second quarter in a row that the Chiefs scored in the end of the quarter.

Lee Smith got in on the act on the Raiders first series after Harris touchdown catch that gave the Chiefs a 17-point lead, as he caught a one-yard touchdown pass from Carr that cut the Chiefs lead down to 10.

After a quick three-and-out, the Raiders went right down the field and ended up cutting the Chiefs lead down to three, as Carr found Marcel Ateman for a nine-yard touchdown pass that cut the Chiefs lead down to three.

Unfortunately, the hot hands of Mahomes continued, as he threw his fourth touchdown pass of the afternoon on the Chiefs next series, as Chris Conley snared a two-yard touchdown pass.

Despite trailing by 10, the Raiders would not give up, as they drove down the field and Carlson nailed a 43-yard field goal to get the Raiders within seven; however, his onside kick was recovered by the Chiefs and they kneeled three times to close out the victory.

NOTES: There was a skirmish between Cook and Eric Murray in the second quarter, and both players were assessed unsportsmanlike conduct penalties.

UP NEXT: Once again, a division leader will head into the Coliseum, as the AFC North Division leading Pittsburgh Steelers face the Raiders on December 9.

Originally, scheduled for 5:20 pm on NBC, the game was flexed out and will be played at 1:25 pm on FOX.

On the Oakland Raiders podcast with Tony:

#1 Tony talks about the Baltimore Ravens and their 2016 Heisman Trophy winner quarterback LaMar Jackson, who is making a lot of headway in the NFL. LaMar, before last Sunday’s game against the Raiders, had himself a career day on Nov. 18th, throwing for 71 yards, a touchdown, carried 27 times for 117 yards. Last Sunday, Jackson led the Ravens to another victory against the Raiders.

#2 Will there be a quarterback controversy in Baltimore between Jackson and Joe Flacco? That’s something that Ravens head coach John Harbaugh will have to decide, but the Ravens pounded the Raiders on offense last Sunday.

#3 Jackson, on Sunday, carried the ball 11 times and nine times in the second half.

#4 Raiders quarterback Derek Carr went 16-34 for 194 yards with a touchdown, but the Ravens defense got to Carr, sacking him three times.

Raiders return home to host divisional rival Chiefs Sunday at the Coliseum

After concluding a two-game road trip, the Oakland Raiders will return home this week to welcome in their divisional rival the Kansas City Chiefs at the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum. Sunday’s Week 13 meeting between these two AFC West foes will mark the first of two meetings in four weeks, with the Raiders wrapping up the season in Kansas City in Week 17.

The two teams split last season’s series, with Oakland winning 31-30 in thrilling fashion on Thursday Night Football last October in Oakland. Kansas City won 26-15 at Arrowhead Stadium in Week 14.

Kickoff for the 116th meeting is set for 1:05 p.m. PT, with Kansas City leading the all-time series 61-52-2.

Last week, the Raiders (2-9) lost on the road to the Baltimore Ravens 34-17. Raiders quarterback Derek Carr completed 16-of-34 passes for 194 and one touchdown. For the second-straight week, the Raiders scored a touchdown on their opening drive, a 1-yard score by running back Doug Martin, his first in Silver and Black. Martin rushed for 51 yards on 11 carries (4.6 yards per carry) and also added three catches for 21 yards.

Tight end Jared Cook tied his career-high with his fifth touchdown grab of the year in the third quarter of the game. Cook finished with two catches for 32 yards and the score.

On defense, the Raiders recorded two interceptions in the first half in back-to-back weeks as the safety tandem of Marcus Gilchrist and Reggie Nelson each recording a takeaway. Both players have two interceptions this season for the Raiders.

Kansas City holds the AFC’s best record at 9-2 and sit atop the AFC West. The Chiefs are coming off their bye week but lost their most recent game, 54-51 to the Rams in Los Angeles on Monday Night Football.

The Chiefs have on of the league’s most prolific offenses, ranking second in points per game (36.7), third in total yards per game (434.3) and passing yards per game (318.5) and second-year quarterback Patrick Mahomes is a big reason why the Chiefs put up astronomical numbers every game.

In his first full season as the Kansas City’s starter, Mahomes leads the NFL in touchdown passes (37) and is second in passer rating, a blistering 117.9.

With pass catchers like third-year wide receiver Tyreek Hill (65 catches for 1,106 yards and team-leading 11 touchdowns) and sixth-year tight end Travis Kelce (team-leading 67 catches for 914 yards and 7 touchdowns), to go along with second-year running back Kareem Hunt (181 rushes for 824 yards and 7 touchdowns), its hard for teams to stop the Chiefs when they are rolling.

Hunt is also tough to defend in the passing game, with 26 catches for 378 yards and seven touchdown catches this season.

Outside linebacker Dee Ford is one of the NFL’s most disruptive pass rushers. Ford leads the Chiefs with nine sacks and five forced fumbles. Fellow outside linebacker Justin Houston has four sacks and three forced fumbles.

Following Sunday’s game, the Raiders will face another tough test when they host the Pittsburgh Steelers. Kansas City returns home to take on the Baltimore Ravens in Week 14.

Jackson roughs up Raiders in 34-17 win

With Joe Flacco on the bench for the second straight game, Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh turned to 2016 Heisman Trophy Winner Lamar Jackson for the second week in a row.

The rookie out of Louisville did not disappoint Harbaugh or his team, as he ran for 71 yards and a touchdown and the Ravens defeated the Oakland Raiders 34-17 at M&T Bank Stadium.

One week after carrying the ball 27 times for 117 yards in his NFL starting debut, Jackson carried the ball 11 times, including nine times in the second half.

Jackson attempted only seven passes in the second half, as he went 14-for-25 for 178 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions.

Gus Edwards ran for 118 yards, as the Ravens won for the second game in a row for the first time since September.

Terrell Suggs put the finishing touches on the win, as he recovered a fumble after Matthew Judon sacked Derek Carr and Suggs ran for 43 yards for the touchdown.

Doug Martin scored his first touchdown as a Raider, as he scored on the Raiders’ opening series of the game.

Justin Tucker pulled the Ravens within 7-3 on their first series of the game, as he kicked 47-yard field goal.

Cyrus Jones gave the Ravens the lead for good in the second quarter, as he returned a Johnny Townsend punt 70 yards for the touchdown.

After the two teams traded field goals to close out the scoring in the first half, Jackson scored on a five-yard run on the first series of the second half to stretch the Ravens lead up to 20-10.

Carr then drove the Raiders down the field, and it culminated with a one-handed touchdown catch by Jared Cook to cut the Ravens down to three.

That would be the Raiders only possession of the third quarter, as Jackson and the Ravens took the ball and held for the next 8:53 that ended with Jackson finding former Raiders wide receiver Michael Crabtree for the eight-yard touchdown pass.

Carr ended up going 16-for-34 for 194 yards with a touchdown, he was also sacked three times on the afternoon.

Martin led the Raiders in rushing with 11 carries for 51 yards with a touchdown, as the Raiders fall to 2-9 on the season.

Both Martin and Rookie Marcell Ateman led the Raiders in catches with three, while Ateman gained 16 yards and Martin gained 21 yards.

NOTES: Raiders backup defensive end Jacquies Smith was forced to leave the game with an Achilles injury, while defensive tackle Mo Hurst left in the third quarter with an undisclosed injury.

Carr went into the concussion protocol tent late in the second quarter, and was replaced by A.J. McCarron, who kneeled down for the final plays of the first half. Carr eventually returned to the game in the second half.

UP NEXT: After a bye, the 9-2 Kansas City Chiefs head to the Coliseum, as the two rivals will face each other twice over the final weeks of the season.

Rookie quarterback Lamar Jackson threw for a score and ran for another, and linebacker Terrell Suggs returned a fumble 43 yards for a touchdown helping the Ravens dispatch the visiting Oakland Raiders, 34-17 on Sunday at M&T Bank Stadium.

Rookie running back Gus Edwards rushed for 118 yards on 23 carries, his second-straight game that he’s rushed for over 100 yards. Edwards, who went undrafted in this year’s NFL draft out of Rutgers, rushed for 115 yards on 17 carries last week in Baltimore’s 24-21 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals.

Ravens backup cornerback Cyrus Jones took a punt 70 yards to for a touchdown that helped the Ravens (6-5) win for back-to-back games for the first time since September.

The Ravens would carry a 13-10 halftime lead into the locker room.

On the Ravens’ first drive in the third quarter, Jackson would lead the Ravens on a 13-play, 75-yard drive in 6:50 that ended in a 5-yard scoring run by the Louisville product that pushed Baltimore’s lead to 20-10.

Following a Derek Carr 16-yard touchdown pass to tight end Jared Cook (who made an unbelievable one-handed catch as he’s falling to the ground) that cut Baltimore’s lead to 20-17, Jackson would engineer a 17-play, 71-yard drive that chewed up 8:51 off the clock that was capped off by an 8-yard slant-route touchdown catch by former Raiders wide receiver Michael Crabtree that extended the Ravens’ lead to 27-17.

Crabtree, who was cut in the offseason by Oakland, finished with three catches for 21 yards on six targets.

Baltimore relied heavily on the running game that kept the Raiders off balance for most of the day, as Jackson led Baltimore on two touchdown drives that consumed 16 minutes of game time stretching from the third into the fourth quarter.

Oakland’s 31st-ranked running defense couldn’t stop the Ravens on Sunday, allowing 242 rushing yards on 43 attempts.

Jackson, who started at quarterback for the second-straight week in place of regular starter Joe Flacco whose been dealing with a injured right hip, did throw two interceptions on passes that were tipped but otherwise, played efficiently for Baltimore.

After not recording a sack through three quarters, the Ravens finally started to get pressure on Carr, sacking the Raiders starting quarterback on three-straight plays in the fourth quarter. Ravens linebacker Matthew Judon, who entered Week 12 with just three sacks on the season, recorded all three sacks on Carr.

Judon’s first sack resulted in a Carr fumble that was quickly scooped up by linebacker Terrell Suggs who then raced 43 yards for a touchdown that made the score 34-17, ending any hope for the Raiders.

Carr threw for 194 yards and one touchdown on 16-of-34 passes for Oakland (2-9), who scored a touchdown on their first possession for the second-straight week. Carr led Oakland on a 12-play, 81-yard drive in 6:15 that included a 30-yard completion to backup tight end Lee Smith on fourth-and-1 that was capped off by running back Doug Martin’s 1-yard touchdown run.

The scoring play for Martin was his first of the season for the Silver and Black. Martin scored his last touchdown last October as a member of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Martin recorded 72 yards total (51 rushing and 21 receiving) on 14 touches (11 rushes and 3 catches) for the game. Second-year wide receiver Marcell Ateman was the only other Raider with three catches, finishing with just 21 yards. Ateman led the team with 10 targets.

Wide receiver Seth Roberts led Oakland with 54 yards receiving on two catches. Roberts’ 44-yard catch from Carr in the third quarter would setup tight end Jared Cook’s 16-yard touchdown catch that made the score 20-10 following a 5-yard touchdown run by Jackson to begin the third quarter.

For the second straight week, the Raiders’ defense recorded two interceptions with safeties Reggie Nelson and Marcus Gilchrist each notching a takeaway.

Linebacker Tahir Whitehead recorded 14 tackles and linebacker Nicholas Morrow recorded just the 10th sack by Oakland this season in the first quarter.

On Sunday, Dec. 2, the Raiders return home to face the Kansas City Chiefs for the first time this season. Kansas City (9-2) who is currently on a bye week, leads the AFC West and are coming off a wild 54-51 loss to the Los Angeles Rams on Nov. 18 in a game that was originally set to take place at Estadio Azteca in Mexico City.

The Ravens will travel to Atlanta to take on the Falcons in Week 13.

OAKLAND — The Raiders hit the road once again as they will travel East to take on a tough Baltimore Ravens team to close out Thanksgiving Weekend. The Week 12 matchup will mark the fourth consecutive year that the two teams have clashed, with Oakland winning two of the last three contests, including a thrilling 28-27 victory in 2016 at M&T Bank Stadium. Baltimore won last year’s meeting 30-17 in Oakland.

Kickoff for the 11th meeting is this Sunday, Nov. 25 at 10:00 a.m. PT. The Ravens lead the all-time series, 7-3.

Last week, the Raiders (2-8) defeated the Arizona Cardinals 23-21 at State Farm Stadium.

Raiders quarterback Derek Carr earned his 15th career fourth quarter comeback, engineering an impressive 9-play, 63-yard drive in the final minutes of the game, capped off by rookie kicker Daniel Carlson’s 35-yard game-winning field goal through the uprights as time expired.

The win snapped Oakland’s five-game losing streak and more importantly, shinned a little light on what has been a dark season for the Silver and Black with the losses mounting up week after week.

Carr finished the game completing 19-of-31 passes for 191 yards and two touchdowns and no interceptions with a 100.6 passer rating. His two touchdowns against the Cardinals moved him past Rich Gannon (114) for third on the club’s all-time list with 115, trailing only Daryle Lamonica (148) and Ken Stabler (150).

For Carlson, his three made field goals on the day from 49 (career-long), 21, and 35 yards (first career game-winner) earned him AFC Special Teams Player of the Week honors. His 11 points (two made extra points) were also a career-high and were the most among kickers in the AFC in Week 11.

Defensively, cornerback Gareon Conley and safety Karl Joseph each recorded an interception that led to touchdowns on ensuing drives, and rookie defensive tackle Maurice Hurst tallied a sack for the second consecutive week, bringing his total to four on the season and elevating him to second among rookie defenders in the NFL.

After coming of their bye week, the Ravens defeated their AFC North rivals, the Cincinnati Bengals 24-21 in Week 11 at M&T Bank Stadium snapping their three-game losing streak.

Baltimore’s offense was paced by two rookies in quarterback Lamar Jackson and running back Gus Edwards.

Jackson did throw one interception in the game, but showed why he was a dual-threat quarterback at Louisville, completing 13-of-19 passes for 150 yards and rushing for 119 yards on 26 carries (team-high) in his first career start in place of franchise quarterback Joe Flacco. Flacco was inactive for last week’s game due to a injured hip.

Edwards, an undrafted rookie from Rutgers University, rushed for a career-high 115 yards on 17 carries and one touchdown.

Following Sunday’s game, the Raiders will return home for two weeks to take on two first-place teams in the AFC, as they will host their AFC West rivals the Kansas City Chiefs (9-2) in Week 13, and the Pittsburgh Steelers (7-2-1) in Week 14.

The Ravens (5-5) who trail the Steelers in the AFC North, hit the road for back-to-back games against the Atlanta Falcons (4-6) in Week 13 and the Chiefs in Week 14.
