They may be upset with kind of the tone of it. But when you realize all that has to be done, it’s just fine.”

Raiders Focus On Defensive Picks As Draft Concludes; No.143 Safety Gillespie from Missouri join Silver and Black

The Las Vegas Raiders selected during day two the No.143 pick of the NFL draft safety Tyree Gillespie out of Missouri (AP News file photo)

Raiders Focus On Defensive Picks As Draft Concludes

By Barbara Mason

So we made it to Day Three of the NFL draft. Hundreds of players lives have changed for the better over these three days and now it is up to each one of them to build on this incredible opportunity.

The Las Vegas Raiders had a very nice Day Two and at pick No. 143 on Day Three they chose a Safety Tyree Gillespie. They had to trade up to get this guy and more help in their secondary. They traded No. 162 and 200 overall to the New York Jets to get that pick and acquire Gillespie. This guy out of Missouri is fast and physical. Among his many strengths he takes good angles on tackles and is adept at stopping the run.

The Raiders chose at No. 167 in round five CB Nate Hobbs out of Illinois. He has everything needed to help the Las Vegas defense and it’s just a matter of time before we see him out on the field.

So after six picks for the Raiders it was defense, defense and more defense for Las Vegas. Would they finish defense with their final pick or would they pick up some more help on the offensive side of the ball.

So the Raiders chose their second offensive player in the draft. They picked at No. 237 C Jimmy Morrissey out of Pittsburgh.

So the picks are in: all 259 of them. Now the fun begins. The signings and most of all, the insanely hard work. Getting picked is one thing, but proving yourself is an entirely different matter. We will just have to wait until the pre-season followed by the regular season to see just how these guys are going to help the Las Vegas Raiders realize a winning season.
