Las Vegas Raiders beat reporter

It took about a month for the Las Vegas Raiders to get the taste of losing out of their mouths with an overtime win over the Dallas Cowboys at AT&T Stadium in Arlington 36-33 on Thursday night.

You’d have to go back to Sun Oct 24th when the Raiders defeated the Philadelphia Eagles 33-22 when they last won a game. After that game they had a bye week lost two key players to unforeseen circumstances in Henry Ruggs and Damon Arnette during that week that could have knocked any team off the rails and make them miss an opportunity at post season.

The Raiders would lose three straight games to New York Giants, Kansas City Chiefs and Cincinnati Bengals. After that Bengals loss critics really wonder when the Raiders would win another game. The wait wouldn’t be long. The victory against the Cowboys on Thursday night really gave the Silver and Black some light in their playoff hope tunnel as it were and at least looking to start playing close to get within striking distance of their opponents.

The Raiders held the lead for most of the game and to come away with a win like this against the Cowboys on a Thanksgiving Day you’d have to go all the way back to 1968 proceeding that year the Raiders lost the next two Thanksgiving dates with Dallas but got back in the win column in overtime Thursday after Raiders kicker Daniel Carlson booted a 29 yard overtime field goal to get the Raiders over the hump for the three point win.

For the Cowboys the loss marks their third loss in games when they went overtime and this is the sixth overtime game in Thanksgiving Day history. One of the key reasons why the Raiders won this game is the defense played such a key role in the first three quarters of the game the Raiders held the Cowboys to a single digit in scoring for each quarter. Each time the Cowboys would get close to the red zone the Raiders would close the gap on them and force a turnover.

The other cause for the loss was the four pass interference calls that Cowboys cornerback Anthony Brown got while defending the Raiders. On the fourth interference call on Brown came in overtime that put the ball in great field position for Carlson to be able to kick the 29 yard winner and take the Raiders home.

Raiders quarterback Derek Carr also had a great afternoon under center throwing 24-39 for 373 yards passing getting one touchdown. Carr didn’t allow a turnover and held onto the rock when he got sacked two times. Carr avoided moving the chains and relied on his receivers including Desean Jackson whose made a difference. Jackson three catches for 102 yards and one touchdown.

The Cowboys falling against AFC West opponents like they did last Sunday to the Kansas City Chiefs 19-9. The Raiders jumped right in with a big lead in the beginning, keeping that lead all the way until almost the end of the game.

Carr had a tremendous leadership role in leading the team really the whole game in big third down conversions all game long. Jackson had a great game at receiver and seems to be fitting in really well with the Raiders in that one two tandem of wide receiver with Zay Jones. It seems to be working out at the wide receiver angle along with wide receiver Bryan Edwards who helped out with one reception and 12 yards.

The Raiders now will have ten days off and play the Washington Football Team (4-6) coming in to Allegiant Stadium in a real big game on Sun Dec 5th. For the Raiders who have their eye on trying to get a shot at post season. Washington had a four game losing streak going before winning two in a row against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (7-3) and Carolina Panthers (5-6). The Panthers being Washington’s most recent win.

Las Vegas Raiders podcast with Rich Perez: Raiders do enough to stay ahead of Cowboys; Get OT field goal from Carlson for winner 36-33

Las Vegas Raiders kicker Daniel Carlson (2) kicks a 29 yard game winning field goal in overtime against the Dallas Cowboys on Thu Nov 25, 2021 at AT &T stadium in Arlington (AP News photo)

On the Raiders podcast with Rich:

The Las Vegas Raiders (6-5) kicker Daniel Carlson kicked the game winning field goal in overtime to just get the Raiders by the Dallas Cowboys (7-4) on Thanksgiving Day Thu Nov 25, 2021 36-33. It was a real nail biter the Raiders had just enough to stay ahead of the Cowboys throughout the game and got into overtime to get Carlson in good field position to boot the 29 yarder for the winner.

The win for the Raiders makes this their first Thanksgiving Day victory since 1968 the last time they won. This Thursday’s victory ended a two game losing streak and Thursday made it their third Thanksgiving game since 1968 as the Cowboys had won the two previous games.

The Cowboys Anthony Brown just couldn’t keep out of pass interference trouble. Brown’s pass interference help set up a field goal for Carlson. Brown would commit four third down pass interference penalties it no doubt was a factor in the Cowboys losing this game.

Las Vegas Raiders podcast with Tony Renteria: Are Raiders still shook over loses of Ruggs and Arnette?; Las Vegas goes to Dallas with three game loss streak Thursday night

Las Vegas Raiders head coach Rich Bisaccia yells instruction to the his players during Sun Nov 21, 2021 game against the visiting Cincinnati Bengals at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas (AP News photo)

On the Raiders podcast with Tony Renteria:

After the Las Vegas Raiders (5-5) winning two straight games going to back on Oct 17th and 24th vs. the Denver Broncos (5-5) and Philadelphia Eagles (5-6). Then there was the bye week of Oct 31st when Henry Ruggs III was arrested for DUI by death and Damon Arnette who posted a video of himself with a automatic weapon with a scope saying he was going kill a someone.

After the loss of those two players the Raiders are currently in a three game losing streak with loses to the New York Giants (3-7), Kansas City Chiefs (7-4) and the Cincinnati Bengals (6-4). You had to wonder if the team fundamentally is off track or still shell shocked from the loses of Ruggs and Arnette.

The Raiders host the Dallas Cowboys (7-3) Thursday night for a Thanksgiving contest. The Cowboys are going well they have won seven of their last nine games and lost their most recent game against the Kansas City Chiefs last Sunday 19-9. The Cowboys scores were just three field goals and Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott was off throwing 28-43 for 216 yards, no touchdowns and two picks. Tony tells us how he sees this match up on Turkey night.

On the 49ers podcast with David:

#1 David the San Francisco 49ers (5-5) handled the Jacksonville Jaguars (2-8) rather handedly on Sunday in Jacksonville 30-10. They didn’t play down to the Jags level and were in control on both sides of the football for most of the game.

#2 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo was 16-22 for 176 yards and threw for two touchdowns. The 49ers big offensive quarter was the second quarter where they scored 17 points.

#3 The 49ers host the Minnesota Vikings (5-5) on Sunday the Vikings have won four of their last six games including a big win over the Green Bay Packers (8-3) last Sunday 34-31. Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins was 24-35 for 341 yards and three touchdowns against the Packers. How do you see the Vikings and 49ers this Sunday in Santa Clara?

Las Vegas Raiders game wrap: Raiders drop third straight game 32-13; Bengals snap two game loss streak

The picture is worth a thousand words as Cincinnati Bengals defensive end Sam Hubbard (94) goes to recover a fumble by Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Derek Carr (4) who is laid out which pretty much summed up the Raiders afternoon on Sun Nov 21, 2021 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas (AP News photo)

By Rich Perez

Las Vegas Raiders beat writer

The Las Vegas Raiders (5-5) dropped their third straight game on Sunday at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas to the Cincinnati Bengals (6-4) 32-13. For the Bengals they snapped their two game loss streak. Bengals running back Joe Mixon rushed for 132 yards and carried for two touchdowns to contribute to the Bengals offense.

The Bengals who had a bye last week came out well rested and had quite a fourth quarter scoring 19 points to pretty much put the game out of reach. The win also puts the Bengals right back in playoff contention in the AFC North.

The game was so out of hand for the Raiders that Bengals kicker Evan McPherson didn’t feel any pressure kicking field goals becoming the 13th kicker in NFL history to kick three field goals over 50 yards in a game. The Bengals defense did their job holding the Raiders to under 300 yards at 278 yards of offense the second time Cincinnati has done it against an opponent this season.

On offense for the Raiders the 278 yards of offense was their third lowest total for 2021. It was another rough afternoon for Raiders quarterback Derek Carr with 19 completions out of 27 attempts for 215 yards, one touchdown and an interception. The Raiders first half on offense was atrocious they scored a field goal only in each of the first and second quarters and got shutout in the third quarter giving them virtually no chance at all to catch the Bengals.

The Raiders had six chances to get a first down and couldn’t making it 14 straight non first down conversions over two games (see last week against Kansas City Chiefs). The Raiders after their former head coach Jon Gruden resigned back on Oct 10th after losing to the Chicago Bears 20-9 won two straight games against the Denver Broncos and Philadelphia Eagles.

lt was Nov 2 when former running back Henry Ruggs III was DUI and killed Tina Tinton of Las Vegas and was put under house arrest and soon released by the Raiders. Then on Nov 5th Raider cornerback Damon Arnette video recorded himself holding an automatic rifle with a scope threatening a fan on social media after posting the video on social media the Raiders general manager Mark Mayock announced Arnette had been released. Since that week the Raiders have been a struggling team.

The Raiders hope to turn things around this Thursday at AT&T Stadium in Arlington on Thanksgiving Day against the Dallas Cowboys (7-3). The Cowboys have won four out of their last six games but lost their last game Sunday to the Kansas City Chiefs (7-4) 19-9. A 1:30 pm PST kick off for the Raiders and Cowboys this Thu Nov 25th.

49ers power past Jaguars 30-10

The San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo (10) throws against the Jacksonville Jaguars in the first half of Sun Nov 21, 2021 game at Jacksonville (AP News photo)

by Marko Ukalovic

There are teams you are supposed to beat if you want to contend for the playoffs.

The San Francisco 49ers easily took care of business in their 30-10 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday afternoon at TIAA Bank Field.

What could have been a trap game for San Francisco (just ask the Buffalo Bills) having to play an east coat game against a bad team, the 49ers game plan went according to script.

San Francisco have won two games in a row and are in a four way tie in the NFC for the seventh and final playoff spot. Jacksonville have lost two games in a row after stunning the Bills three weeks ago in a 9-6 win.

The 49ers (5-5) opened the game with the longest drive in the NFL since 2000. They went 20 plays for 87 yards in a span of 13:05. They failed to get a touchdown as the drive waas capped off with a 20 yard field goal from Robbie Gould

On the 49ers next possession, quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo led a seven play 80 yard drive that resulted in a 25 yard rushing touchdown by Deebo Samuel. The third year wide receiver lined up in the backfield and ran a sweep down the left sideline for paydirt. It was Samuel’s third rushing touchdown of the season.

San Francisco’s defense were able to get back the ball to offense when Josh Norman punched the ball loose on a Laviska Shenault reception. Fred Warner recovered the fumble at the Bengals 35 yard line.

The 49ers scored capitalized on the turnover as Garoppolo connected with Brandon Aiyuk on a six yard touchdown reception to extend its lead to 17-0.

Jacksonville (2-8) finally got on the board just after the two minute warning when 12 play 67 yard drive Matthew Wright kicked a 30 yard field goal with 1:53 left in the 2nd quarter.

San Francisco responded with seven play 45 yard drive of their own. They ended the half with a 48 yard field goal from Gould.

The 49ers defense picked up where it left off in the first half by dominating the Jaguars offensive line and putting constant pressure on Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence.

San Francisco held Jacksonville to just 54 yards on the game. Contrary to the Niners rushing attack that controlled the time of possession with 171 yards on the ground.

San Francisco put the game away with their first possession of the second half that resulted in another long, time consuming drive.

Garoppolo led the Niners on a 11 play 77 yard drive that consumed 5:45. Garoppolo completed the drive with one yard touchdown reception to tight end George Kittle to give the Niners a commanding 27-3 lead.

Jacksonville scored its only touchdown of the game late in the fourth quarter in what is known as garbage time. James Robinson ran in a one yard touchdown that only fantasy football owners appreciated.

Garoppolo finished the afternoon 16 of 22 for 176 yards and two touchdowns with a 126.3 quarterback rating. Samuel led the 49ers in rushing with 79 yards on eight carries and one touchdown.

Aiyuk lead all wide receivers catching all seven targets for 85 yards and one touchdown.

Lawrence, the 2021 number one pick, finished 16 of 25 for 158 yards with no touchdowns and a quarterback rating of 81.8.

Warner led the Niners defense with seven combined tackles. Arden Key had a sack for a second consecutive game.

GAME NOTES: San Francisco finished 6-for-12 on third down conversions. Jacksonville was 5-for-11.

UP NEXT: San Francisco returns home to host the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday 11/28 at 1:25pm at Levi’s Stadium.

San Francisco 49ers podcast with Joe Hawkes: 49ers try not to look past Jaguars after beating Rams; Mitchell to sit out today’s game

San Francisco 49ers running back Eli Mitchell (25) who will sit out today’s game in Jacksonville is seen here trying to avoid Los Angeles Rams outside linebacker Leonard Floyd (54) and inside linebacker Troy Reeder (51) who are in hot pursuit during last Monday Night Football last on Nov 15, 2021 at Levi Stadium in Santa Clara (AP News photo)

On the 49ers podcast with J Hawkes:

#1 Joe, the San Francisco 49ers (4-5) are coming off in what have called a miraculous win. The 49ers prior to their 31-10 win against the Los Angeles Rams (7-3) on Monday Night Football had lost five out of their last six games was the win over the Rams just a one off or are the 49ers back on track?

#2 Joe 49ers safety Jimmie Ward had himself a game Monday Night with two interceptions and returned one one of them for a touchdown it seemed like Ward and everyone else was up for the challenge against the Rams.

#3 Former 49ers general manager Trent Balalke who is the Jacksonville Jaguars GM was the GM when Ward was first drafted at No.30 by the 49ers in 2014 they most likely will exchange pleasantries when they meet this Sunday in Jacksonville.

#4 Joe, running back Elijah Mitchell had a pin inserted into his broken finger on his right hand after surgery is still being sidelined and is wearing a protective non contact bandage and is stretching with the team during practice.

#5 Joe the 49ers who are coming off a surprising and uplifting win over the Rams last Monday who were one of the winningest teams in the NFL face the Jaguars (2-7) Sunday. The Jaguars after losing five straight games have won two of their last two games. The 49ers can’t let up on the gas because you never know what a team like Jacksonville could do on any given Sunday in spite of their record.

Raptors Siakam leads with 32 pts defeat Kings 108-89; Some fans cheer “fire Luke Walton”

Toronto Raptors forward Pascal Siakam (43) dribbles by Sacramento Kings guard Tyrese Haliburton (0) Fri Nov 19, 2021 at Golden One Center in Sacramento (AP News photo)

By Jeremiah Salmonson

SACRAMENTO–The Sacramento Kings are back in Sacramento and they welcomed the Toronto Raptors on Friday night. The Kings embarked on a four-game road trip on November 9th and just returned home on Friday, November 19th back to Sacramento. The Kings trip saw them go 1-3 and make stops in San Antonio, Oklahoma City, Detroit, and Minneapolis.

It was a disappointing trip for the Kings who had a soft spot in their schedule for the first time all season. During the road trip Kings head coach, Luke was placed on the hot seat after losing the first two games as rumors swirled if he would make it back to Sacramento with a job.

After an up and down start to the season, the Kings were set to begin a crucial stretch at home. On Friday night, the Kings faced one of their worse losses of the season to the Raptors 108-89 at home.

Friday night recap: The Kings were set to take on the Toronto Raptors on Friday at 7 PM PST in Sacramento.

In the first quarter, neither team got off to a very impressive start. Both teams’ defense was lackluster and the offenses looked stagnant. Nonetheless, the Raptors outscored the Kings 30-27 in the first quarter. The Kings would need to pick up the pace and defense in the second quarter to keep the game close.

In the second quarter, the game began to unravel. The Kings defense evaporated and the Toronto Raptors started hitting their three-point shots. That was a recipe for disaster for a Kings team that hasn’t been able to get the offense on track for a while.

The Raptors topped 30 points in both quarters in the second half putting up 33 points in the second quarter. On the other hand, the Kings put up an anemic 18 points. The Kings weren’t playing defense and the offense wasn’t making shots.

That would lead the Kings to a 63-45 hole going into halftime. In an underwhelming first half for the Kings, they were led by De’Aaron Fox with 11 points. The Kings had a massive amount of ground to make up in the third quarter.

In the third quarter, it only got worse for the Kings. To put it into perspective, at a point in the third quarter faint “Fire Luke Walton” chants could be heard throughout the sections of Golden One Center. The Raptors absolutely destroyed the Kings in the third quarter by outscoring the Kings 33-21. It was almost a carbon copy of the results in the second quarter. The Kings went into the final 12 minutes of action down 96-66.

In the final quarter, the Kings showed some heart early on but it wasn’t nearly enough to overcome the deficit. The Kings outscored the Raptors 23-12 in the last quarter but ultimately fell to the Raptors by the final of 108-89. It was a poor effort from the Kings. From lack of enthusiasm to terrible execution, almost everything that could go wrong for the Kings did.

The Kings with the loss fell to 6-10 on the season. Leading the way for the Kings in defeat was De’Aaron Fox who scored 17 points. For the Raptors, they were led by a stellar performance from Pascal Siakam who scored 32 points.

Who knows what’s in the Kings future at this point. I sure don’t.

Up Next: The Kings stay home for the second night of a back-to-back to take on the Utah Jazz on Saturday night at 7 PM PST in Sacramento.

Las Vegas Raiders podcast with Rich Perez: Raiders hope to snap two game skid against Bengals Sunday at Allegiant

Kansas City Chiefs running back Darrel Williams (31) catches a touchdown pass in the second half as Las Vegas Raiders safety Johnathan Abram (24) defends at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas Sun Nov 14, 2021 (AP News photo)

On the Raiders podcast with Rich Perez:

#1 What a way for the Kansas City Chiefs (6-4) to turn things around with a big win over the Las Vegas Raiders (5-4) on Sunday Night Football 41-14 and Chiefs quarterback Pat Mahomes got all the time he needed to throw the ball for five touchdowns.

#2 This was the third time for Mahomes to throw over 400 yards and five touchdowns since he was drafted in 2017 and became the first player have both of them without throwing an interception.

#3 Meanwhile the Raiders just simply looked like they were going empty handed it just seemed no matter what the defense did the Chiefs just found ways to break through the Chiefs never let up on scoring throughout the game.

#4 Former Raider wide receiver Henry Ruggs III failed to take an alcohol test on Wed Nov 17th as ordered by the court Las Vegas Judge Suzan Baucum ordered Ruggs back in court. Ruggs had been under house arrest he is waiting for his preliminary for felony DUI causing death and other serious charges. Ruggs attorney David Chesnoff told Baucum there was something wrong with the testing equipment. Baucum told Chesnoff it didn’t matter. Ruggs could get confinement in Las Vegas jail for missing the test as strict guidelines were made in order for Ruggs to get house arrest.

#5 The Raiders host the Cincinnati Bengals (5-4), the Raiders are coming off two straight loses and the Bengals have lost their last two games likewise. In their last game last Sunday the Cleveland Browns upended the Bengals 41-16. Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow threw 28-40 for 282 yards, and two interceptions. Rich how do you see this match up between the Bengals and Raiders this Sunday.

#1 Dave an unexpected upset victory for the San Francisco 49ers who now improve to 4-5 defeating the visiting Los Angeles Rams (7-3) with that huge 31-10 victory on Monday Night Football were you just as shocked by the turn around as everyone else?

#2 Lots of key players in this one two of which quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo 15-19, 182 yards throwing, two touchdowns take all that considered the 49ers were in the red zone quite a few times. Also talk about Jimmie Ward who had two picks off Rams quarterback Matt Stafford.

#3 Dave the 49ers really beat a Goliath of a football team in the Rams now they play one of the worst and struggling teams in the NFL next Sunday Nov 21st in Florida against the Jacksonville Jaguars (2-7). You can never count anyone out on any given Sunday as the Jags have won two of their last four games. They did lose to the Indianapolis Colts (5-5) last Sunday 23-17.
