#1 Tanner McKee Stanford Cardinal quarterback got some help from Casey Filkins scored a touchdown and got kicking help from kicker Joshua Karty who booted three field goals in the Cardinal shocker over the Notre Dame 16-14.

#2 McKee had 288 yards passing and helped the Cardinal end an 11 game losing streak against FBS opponents.

#3 The Cardinal had lost a two touchdown lead to the Oregon State Beavers Sat Oct 8 and the Cardinal just turned things around against the Fighting Irish Sat 15th. With the ball on the Stanford 25 Notre Dame quarterback Drew Pyne threw on fourth and seven Stanford Jonathan McGill safety broke up a pass with 1:04 left in the game to prevent the Irish from scoring.

#4 After the game Stanford head coach David Shaw said that the Cardinal really needed that win and Shaw thought it was going to be tough getting the players ready early in the week but it wasn’t difficult at all they had a good practice and defeated Notre Dame.

#5 Stanford goes up against the Arizona State Sun Devils (2-4) who won their last game against the Washington Huskies at ASU 45-38. Knowing that do you see this game as a toss up this Sat Oct 22 as you will be there to cover this contest live and in person.

#1 Daniel fourth quarter last Saturday Oct 9th at Stanford the Oregon State Beavers (4-2) down by 14 points came back and edged the Stanford Cardinal (1-4) 28-27.

#2 OSU quarterback Ben Gulbranson threw a 56 yard touchdown to wideout Tre’Shaun Harrison with just 13 seconds left in the contest for what would be the winning touchdown.

#3 One thing that Stanford head coach David Shaw has to be concerned about is trying to finish games but said the Cardinal just couldn’t put it away in the fourth quarter.

#4 Close game tough loss for Stanford quarterback Tanner McKee was 20-32 for 269 yards and two touchdowns. Good enough to win but a tough loss to take.

#5 The Cardinal are in Notre Dame this Sat 15th. Notre Dame (3-2) won their last game 28-20 past the BYU Cougars (4-2). Look for Fighting Irish quarterback Drew Pyne who threw for three touchdowns and 262 yards against BYU last Saturday.

#1 Michael coming off the bye from last week how important is it for Cal Bears to have had that rest after getting defeated by Washington State Cougars and having lost two of their last three games?

#2 The WSU’s quarterback Cameron Ward seemed like he had all day on Sat Oct 1st at Pullman throwing for three touchdowns in the 28-9 victory over Cal.

#3 The Bears did have their flashes on the defensive side of the football when Ward intercepted twice.

#4 The Bears just simply were hurting on the offensive side of the ball scoring only nine points and quarterback Jack Plummer could not convert any touchdowns throwing 23-33 for 272 yards.

#5 The Bears should be well rested and are facing an winless Colorado Buffaloes (0-5) team who has made coaching changes and were just landslided in their last game Saturday by the Arizona Wildcats 43-20. Will Cal be able to make work of the Buffs this Saturday?

Heart-Breaking Stanford Loss to Oregon State In Final 13 Seconds – 28-27

Heart-Breaking Stanford Loss to Oregon State In Final 13 Seconds – 28-27

The Stanford Cardinal ((1-4) have been struggling losing last week to the Oregon Ducks in a route 45-27. Tonight the Cardinal took on the Oregon State Beavers (4-2). Two teams with their backs against the wall made for some fiery emotional moments in this game.

Oregon State had a nice drive to start the game but came up empty when Atticus Sappington missed a 40-yd field goal failing to take an early lead.

Stanford quarterback Tanner McKee completed seven passes in their first drive in the quarter, one for 31 yards to Benjamin Yurosek. The Cardinal drove down to the Oregon State one -yard-line and Casey Filkins rushed for one yard and the touchdown giving Stanford a 7-0 lead.

Oregon State put together a time consuming drive taking their possession into the second quarter. The Beavers Jack Colletto rushed for one yard and the touchdown. The extra point was good and this game was tied 7-7.

Stanford was looking for a fast start in this game and it all came together in the second quarter. The Cardinal extended their lead to 10-7 when Joshua Party kicked a 47 yard field at 8:44. With the clock winding down in the half, Tanner McKee found Bryson Tremayne for 21 yards and the touchdown. Stanford took a 17-7 lead into the locker room at half-time. The Cardinal were well on their way to breaking their nine game losing streak against conference opponents.

Cardinal quarterback Tanner McKee had a sensational first half completing 14 of 19 passes for 171 yards and one touchdown.

Stanford went three and out to start the third quarter. The Beavers’ first possession of the quarter stalled on the Stanford 27 yard line and they had to settle for a 40-yard field goal. The Beavers now trailed by a touchdown 17-10.

After a slow offensive start in the quarter for the Cardinal, the Stanford defense really stepped up sacking Beaver quarterback Ben Gulbranson for a third time in the game. Stanford took over on downs setting up a 37 yard pass from McKee to Brycen Tremaine for a touchdown extending the Cardinal lead to 24-10.

Stanford would take that lead into the fourth quarter. Oregon State’s Silas Bolden would make the catch of the game, a 21 yard pass from Gulbranson in the end zone to start the quarter. The Beavers two point conversion attempt would fail and at 14:50 the Cardinal had a 24-16 lead.

Oregon State refused to back down and with 5:45 left in the game Damien Martinez romped for 43 yards to the end zone followed by a two-points conversion. The Cardinal were clinging to a 24-22 lead.

Stanford extended their lead in the final minute kicking a 46 yard field goal. When a Cardinal win seemed inevitable Oregon State’s quarterback Gulbranson threw a miracle pass to Tre’Shaun Harrison who scampered for the touchdown and a 28-27 Beaver lead. The Cardinal suffered a heart- breaking loss in a most unlikely comeback by Oregon State.

Stanford had some great numbers despite the loss. McKee finished with 269 yards and two touchdowns. The Beavers just turned out the lights at Stanford Stadium in a crazy finish. It was absolute madness in the final minute of this game.

The Cardinal will face a tough Notre Dame Fighting Irish team next Saturday at Notre Dame with kickoff at 4:30 PM. That game will be televised on NBC.

#1 Michael, You knew the way the Stanford Cardinal (1-3) were playing it was going to be a rough go for Stanford when they went into the confines at Autzen Stadium in Eugene when the Cardinal got landslided 45-27 by the Oregon Ducks (4-1).

#2 For Stanford quarterback Tanner McKee it was not the afternoon that it was cracked up to be throwing 166 yards, 19-33, and two touchdowns it wasn’t enough to keep up with the Ducks.

#3 Michael, rough first half for the Cardinal defense as the Ducks opened up the first quarter with ten points and closing out the half in the second quarter with 21 points.

#4 Ducks quarterback Bo Nix went 16-29 for 161 yards for two touchdowns. Nix was able to run the ball and that was one of the factors that kept the Cardinal defense off last Saturday.

#5 The Cardinal host the Oregon State Beavers (3-2) this Sat Oct 8th. The Beavers have lost two straight games after winning three in a row. The Beavers dropped their last game last Saturday getting trounced by the Utah Utes 42-16. How do you see the Beavers and Cardinal match up this Saturday at Stanford Stadium?

#1 Morris, like you questioned in your column on Saturday can the Cal Bears (3-2) win a game on the road?

#2 Cal is in last with a 3-2 record how concerned is head coach Justin Wilcox?

#3 To quote Wilcox after the game “We got nothing going in the run game,” coach Justin Wilcox admitted. “Pass protection wasn’t where it needed to be. 

#4 Cal quarterback Jack Plummer went 23-33 for 273 yards against the Washington State Cougars (4-1) but did not throw one touchdown and one interception. Coach Wilcox mentioned lack of pass protection was that more the case or Plummer just couldn’t get settled in to find targets?

#5 The Bears have a bye this Sat 7th and return to action on Sat Oct 15th to continue their road trip and face the Colorado Buffaloes (0-5) in Colorado. The Buffaloes were trampled on by the Arizona Wildcats last Saturday 43-20. Is Colorado Cal’s best chance to pick up their first win of the season?

#1 Michael it wasn’t even close last Saturday at the Washington Huskies made work of the Stanford Cardinal (1-2) 40-22 at Husky Stadium in Washington.

#2 Huskies quarterback Michael Penix Jr 22-37 for 309 yards. Penix didn’t throw for a touchdown but yet there was a lot of offense by the Huskies.

#3 Huskies running back Wayne Taulapapa rushed for 120 yards and a touchdown and Will Nixon with only 4 carries and 21 yards scored one touchdown.

#4 Stanford quarterback Tanner McKee didn’t get much protection getting sacked eight times and the Huskies forced two fumbles was it a matter of McKee just couldn’t get away from the Huskies’ blitz package or the Cardinal offensive line just couldn’t stop the Huskies pass rush?

#1 Michael, USC quarterback Caleb Williams didn’t have any secrets about the winning results against the Stanford Cardinal on Sun 11th as the Trojans defeated the Stanford Cardinal (1-1) big 41-28.

#2 The USC defense looked like they gave Williams all day to throw for 341 yards and four touchdowns.

#3 Williams also threw to wide receiver Jordan Addison twice for touchdowns and the Trojan move into tenth in the college rankings.

#4 Head coach David Shaw said Stanford could have gone into the half with the lead but a turnover nullified that just simply a tough way to lose for Shaw and Stanford.

#5 The Cardinal try it again as they battle the Washington Huskies at Husky Stadium in Seattle this Sunday. The Huskies have been going well (3-0) and won by 11 points defeating Michigan State in their last contest last Saturday 39-28. #1 Drew Pyne quarterback of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish (1-2) made inroads in his first game under center for the Irish. Pyne threw for 150 yards and two touchdowns in the Notre Dame 24-17 win in South Bend Indiana over the Cal Bears (2-1).

#2 Morris the win was also pretty special for Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman it was his first victory as head coach for Notre Dame.

#3 The Irish came in ranked No.5 to start the season and had to comeback from behind three times to beat the Bears by a touchdown.

#4 Morris, tough finish for the Bears missed a last second shot when Cal quarterback Jack Plummer let one loose in the end zone as the ball bounced several players and receiver Jeremiah Hunter had it in his hands but the ball ended up off his hands and on the end zone grass.

#5 The Arizona Wildcats (2-1) will be playing the Bears next Sat Sep 24th at Cal Memorial. The Wildcats are coming off a 31-28 win against the North Dakota State Bison (2-1). Wildcats quarterback Jayden de Laura threw for 229 yards and one touchdown. Morris how do you see the Wildcats and Bears matching up this coming Saturday?
