Syracuse uses big first half to upend Cal 75-66

Lucas Taylor scored 19 points and J.J. Starling bagged 18 for Syracuse Saturday, leading the Orange past California 75-66 in Atlantic Coast Conference men’s basketball at Haas Pavilion.

The win snapped a three-game losing streak for the Orange (10-12 overall, 4-7 ACC).

The Golden Bears (11-11 overall, 4-7 ACC) were led by Jeremiah Wilkinson and Jovan Blacksher, who each scored a game-high 20 points. Rylis Petraitis was Cal’s leading rebounder with eight, to go with two assists, two steals and 13 points.

Syracuse opened the game with back-to-back layups by Starling, followed by a Taylor jumper and Elijah Moore’s 3-pointer, giving the Orange a 9-0 lead. The Orange never trailed.

Chris Bell hit a short jumper and a 3 to cap a 10-1 Syracuse run that put the Orange up by 13 with nine minutes remaining in the first half. Taking advantage of poor shooting by Cal (17 percent on 4 of 23 shots), the Orange build a 40-23 at the break.

The Golden Bears battled back with two 11-0 runs to pull within seven in the second half. Petraitis scored seven points during a 9-3 Cal run, pulling the Bears to within 67-61 on Blacksher’s layup with 1:14 remaining. The Golden Bears got no closer.

The Golden Bears were without Andrej Stojakovic, their leading scorer. Stojakovic averages 18.9 points per game – third in the ACC.

Cal hosts N.C. State on Wednesday. Game time is 8 p.m PST.

#1 Michael in Stanford head coach Troy Taylor’s presser this week coach explained what happened as the NC State Wolfpack had a good first half as the Wolfpack scored two touchdowns in the first quarter and 17 points in the second quarter.

#2 Coach Taylor said that Wolfpack kept rolling until the fourth quarter when Stanford got an interception.

#3 Coach Taylor said that NC State quarterback CJ Bailey had time to throw the ball and that Bailey is “talented and a heck of a player” Bailey wound up throwing three touchdowns last Saturday.

#4 Coach said that if you don’t pressure the quarterback the Wolfpack didn’t make any mistakes. ” (Bailey) had a lot of time to throw and he did a great job when we had him covered down he would run for yards”

Wolfpack hands Cardinal sixth straight defeat, wins ACC contest 59-28

Stanford suffered its sixth consecutive football defeat in Raleigh, N.C., Saturday, as North Carolina State hammered the Cardinal 59-28 in Atlantic Coast Conference play while snapping a two-game home losing streak.

Hollywood Smothers and Jordan Waters each ran for two of the Wolfpack’s touchdowns, and quarterback CJ Bailey threw for three more. It was the first football meeting between NC State (5-4 overall, 2-3 ACC) and Stanford.

Waters rushed for 115 yards on five carries, and Smothers gained 100 yards on 15 attempts.

Bailey took over at quarterback for NC State after Grayson McCall was medically retired due to head injuries. He completed 18 of 20 passes for 234 yards.

Stanford (2-7 overall, 1-5 ACC) started strong, scoring on three of its first six possessions. Cardinal quarterback Ashton Daniels had touchdown runs of 67 and 48 yards while tying a single-game Stanford record for rushing by a quarterback with 129 yards on 11 carries.

NC State led 31-14 at halftime and finished the game with 527 total yards. Stanford lost despite racking up 398 yards in total offense.

Daniels was injured early in the third quarter on a hit by NC State’s Kemal Bonner that drew a roughing the passer penalty. Justin Lamson took over at quarterback for the Cardinal and ran for one touchdown and threw for another.

Largely because of Daniels’ efforts, the Cardinal rushed for 225 yards and three touchdowns on the ground. It was the first time Stanford accomplished that feat this season and the first time they’ve done it since 2022.

Cole Tabb made his college football debut and added 72 rushing yards, and Elic Avomanor caught four passes for 108 yards and a touchdown.

Defensively, Tevarua Tafiti made the first interception of his career in the fourth quarter. David Bailey added two sacks for the Cardinal.

After a bye week, Stanford plays its final home game of the season on Nov. 16, hosting Louisville.

#1 The NC State Wolfpack’s (5-4) Hollywood Smothers and Jordan Waters both carried for two touchdowns and quarterback CJ Bailey also contributed with three touchdowns of his own as the Wolfpack crushed the Stanford Cardinal (2-7) 59-28 Saturday at NC State.

#2 The Wolfpack were stoked as they snapped their two game home losing streak with a dominate first half and scoring three touchdowns in four plays and went through the Cardinal defense like butter.

#3 Waters 94 yard run against the Stanford defense was NC State’s second longest in school history. “Today things clicked and that’s what efficiency looks like,” N.C. State coach Dave Doeren said.

#4 The Cardinal on offense saw quarterback Ashton Daniels score two of the three touchdowns in the Stanford’s first six possessions. Daniels 129 yards rushing on 11 carries ties a single game record for a quarterback at Stanford.

#5 Next up for the Cardinal it’s back to Stanford for the Cardinals vs. the Cardinal. The Louisville Cardinal come calling this Sat Nov 16th at a time to be announced. Louisville are an above .500 team they have Georgia Tech, Virginia, and Boston College. The Cardinals are sixth in the ACC. The Cardinal are third from last from last in the ACC. Stanford going into Saturday’s game are on a six game losing streak and are still looking to get fire lit underneath them.

#1 In Stanford Cardinal’s (2-6) last game against Wake Forest quarterback Hank Bachmeier threw for three touchdowns in Wake Forest’s win. The Cardinal struggled in the first half to shut Bachmeier and the Wake Forest offense down.

#2 Wake Forest kicker Matthew Dennis booted a tie breaking 23 yarder with 1:48 left in the game to lift the Demon Deacons to a 27-24 win.

#3 Wake Forest’s Nick Anderson help clinch the win when he intercepted a pass by Stanford quarterback Ashton Daniels with 22 second left in the game that could have given Stanford field goal range to tie the game.

#4 For Daniels he went 24-31 for 214 yards with one touchdown. What hurt most was Daniels threw two interceptions.

#5 The Cardinal try and turn it all around again at NC State who are 4-4. The Wolfpack just edged the Cal Bears last week 24-23 at Berkeley. NC State has won two of their last four games. Do you see this one being a close contest this weekend at NC State?

Late field goal lifts Demon Deacons over Cardinal 27-24; Stanford’s winless streak continues, 12th consecutive loss to FBS opponents

Wake Forest kicker Matthew Dennis booted a 23-yard field goal with under two minutes to play Saturday, as the Demon Deacons slipped past Stanford 27-24 in Atlantic Coast Conference football at Stanford.

It was the fifth loss in a row for the Cardinal (2-8 overall, 1-4 ACC) and are winless in the last two seasons. Stanford has lost 12 consecutive home games to FBS opponents.

Wake Forest, meanwhile, won its third straight road contest and moved a step closer to bowl eligibility, The Demon Deacons rolled up 418 yards in total offense, while Stanford had 346.

Nick Anderson wrapped up the victory for Wake Forest (4-4 overall, 2-2 ACC) when he intercepted an Ashton Daniels pass with 22 seconds to play. A 36-yard punt return by Taylor Morin gave the Demon Deacons the ball at midfield, setting up the game-winning field goal.

Demon Deacons quarterback Hank Bachmeier tossed three touchdown passes in the first half, including a 30-yard strike to Micah Mays Jr. and a 39-yard TD toss to Tate Carney. Bachmeier threw for 245 passing yards on 20 of 30 completions, but struggled in the second half and was sacked four times.

At 12:44 of the second period, Justin Lamson scored from a yard out to put the Cardinal on the board. Wake Forest turned the ball over at 8:58 of the second period when Bachmeier was sacked and fumbled, Tevarua Tafiti picked up the ball and ran 44 yards for the game-tying touchdown.

Emmet Kenney kicked a 40-yard field goal at the end of the quarter, and the Cardinal trailed 24-17 at halftime.

After a scoreless third quarter, the Cardinal tied the game with 8:41 to play on a 16-yard TD pass from Daniels to Sam Roush. Dennis later booted his go-ahead field goal for Wake Forest with 1:48 remaining,

Demond Claiborne rushed for 127 yards on 23 carries for Wale Forest, and Deuce Alexander led the Deacons with five catches, Daniels completed 24 of 31 passes for 214 yards, one touchdown, and was intercepted twice. Daniels also led Cardinal ball carriers with 54 rushing yards on 11 carries. Elic Ayomanor caught 11 passes for 96 yards to lead Stanford receivers.

The Cardinal travel to Raleigh, N.C., next week to face NC State.

#1 Morris it was quite an afternoon last Saturday as the NC State Wolfpack edged the Cal Bears at Memorial Stadium 24-23 from your view how close of a game was it for Cal in trying to seal the deal on this one?

#2 The Wolfpack’s CJ Bailey was successful in scoring two touchdowns and getting 306 yards enough offensive yards to get the job done.

#3 First half a close game where Cal had NC State close 13-10. The Bears Jaivian Thomas with an impressive 49 yard run for Cal’s first score of the game making it 7-0 with 13:47 in the first quarter. Second quarter Cal kicker Derek Morris booted a 41 yard field goal at 1:12 and Morris added another three points with a 26 yard field goal seven seconds left to close out the first half Cal in front 13-10.

#4 Third quarter again Morris kicked a field goal at 9:10 and a seven yard carry for a touchdown by Thomas with 24 seconds left in the quarter making it 23-10. In the fourth quarter the Wolfpack got touchdowns from Dacari Collins and Hollywood Smothers that edged out the Bears in the for a 24-23 Wolfpack win.

#5 Next game at Cal this Sat Oct 26 at 1:00pm PT as former co Pac 12 team the Oregon State Beavers come calling. The Beavers lost to UNLV last Saturday 33-25. The Beavers are 4-3 and have lost three of their last five games. The Bears are on a four game losing streak and hope to snap it this Saturday how do you see Oregon State and Cal matching up this Saturday?

#1 How shocked how surprised were you to find out that Baylor #4 (13-1) defeated Kansas #3 (12-3) on Saturday 67-55. The Bears Jerod Butler led in scoring with 22 points.
