SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The Sacramento Kings (17-13) did not welcome Lebron “King” James and the Los Angeles Lakers (13-18) into their kingdom and threw them into the moat surrounding Golden 1 Center 134-120.

The Lakers actually had the advantage after the first 12 minutes of play, 26-25 in a quarter that had 10 lead changes and five ties.

The Kings managed to take the lead at the midway point of the contest with veteran forward and champion, Harrison Barnes led the charge with 14 points and totaled 20 for the game. At the half, 66-58 Kings.

Sacramento blew it open in the third quarter, with a lead as large as 23 points and they went on a 14-0 run in the 3/4 portion of the game, leading by 20, 106-86.

The fourth was just a formality, as the Kings held on to win by 14, despite being outscored by six at the hands of the Lakers, Final tally, 134-120 for the home team.

The Kings had six players in double-figures, spearheaded by guard Kevin Huerter’s 26 points and center Domantas Sabonis’ triple-double (13 points, 21 rebounds and 14 assists). Forward Keegan Murray contributed a career high 23 points and star guard De’Arron Fox put up 22 points and 6 assists, but was ejected from the game for amassing two technical fouls.

The Lakers had the entire starting five hit double-figures in points too, but of course led Lebron James’ 31 points, 11 assists and 6 rebounds. Even with the loss in emphatic fashion, James expressed his fondness of Sacramento, because it is the city where everything started with his magnificent career.

The Kings will be in action again, Friday December 23, hosting the Washington Wizards. The Lakers will head back down south to welcome the Charlotte Hornets, also December 23.

Warriors blown out once again by Nets 143-113; Golden State losers of five of last six games

BROOKLYN, NY. — The Golden State Warriors (15-18) finished their rough six-game road trip with a back-to-back blowout loss, falling 143-113 to the Brooklyn Nets (20-12) on Wednesday night at Barclays Center.

Brooklyn pummeled Golden State in the first half, scoring 91 points, the third-biggest in NBA history. The Warriors had 51 at the half, without injured Stephen Curry and Andrew Wiggins and Klay Thompson, who sat out after facing the New York Knicks on Tuesday.

The Nets made 11 of their first 12 shots and led 46-17 at the end of the first quarter. The 29-point differential was the biggest in any period in the league this season.

Warriors head coach Steve Kerr said early turnovers, totaling 21 by the end the night, helped the Nets gain momentum.

“We set a bad tone. You can’t, you can’t play defense recovering from a turnover, and so that was the biggest issue to start the game. We were just trying too hard to create plays and getting out of control,” said Kerr. “And then they made everything. They were phenomenal in the first half.”

Former Warriors player Kevin Durant got a technical foul for celebrating on the sidelines after Nets teammate Ben Simmons slammed down a pass. It didn’t matter much, since the Nets were up 68-31 halfway through the second quarter.

Warriors forward Patrick Baldwin Jr., who guarded Durant after a timeout, acknowledged that many young players look up to him.

“At that moment you’ve just got to step up to the challenge. I thought a lot of guys did that tonight,” said Baldwin Jr. “KD is going to be KD, he’s going to hit his tough shots, he’s going to get to his spots, but I thought a lot of guys stepped up and accepted that challenge.”

The Warriors sank to 95-51 after Simmons scored the first two baskets in the third quarter. They did not come close to closing the gap in the fourth.

Golden State’s leading scorer was James Wiseman, who had a career-high 30 points on 12-for-14 shooting.

Wiseman, whom the Warriors recently recalled from the G League and has an uncertain future, said the team had too many turnovers and broke down on defense.

“We just got to have communication and stuff and we’ll be alright,” said Wiseman. “But I feel like we did way better than the last game just in terms of playing and stuff.”

The Warriors (15-18) are on a two-game losing streak after the Knicks beat them by 38 points, and went 1-5 on the road. They return home and have several days off before a Christmas Day game against the Memphis Grizzlies (19-11) at Chase Center. Tip-off is at 5 p.m.

NEW YORK, NY. — The short-handed Golden State Warriors (15-17) suffered a 132-94 blowout loss to the New York Knicks (18-13) at Madison Square Garden on Tuesday night, in the first of a back-to-back in the Big Apple.

New York scored the first eight points and never trailed the Warriors, who were without Stephen Curry due to a left shoulder injury, Andrew Wiggins with a strained right adductor, Andre Iguodala who has not played yet this season, and others.

The Knicks finished the first quarter ahead 33-25. The Warriors got within 35-33, but Quentin Grimes hit a triple with 4:17 left in the second quarter to boost the Knicks up 60-45. Golden State trailed 69-56 at the half.

“The Knicks are in a good groove right now. They totally outplayed us,” said Warriors head coach Steve Kerr. “We sank tonight. We’re trying to hang in there and we will. Another game tomorrow.”

With 5:37 to go in the third quarter, Mitchell Robinson scored a couple of free throws that extended New York’s lead to 88-67. Then Immanuel Quickley’s free throws with five seconds remaining brought the Knicks to 100 points. They led 100-81 at the end of the quarter.

The Warriors never closed the gap in the fourth quarter, and the Knicks won their eighth straight game to improve to 18-13.

“We probably could’ve did a better job of making them feel our presence on the three-point line today,” said Warriors guard Jordan Poole. “We got a couple of easy looks early and it’s hard to stop a team once they get going.”

Poole was the leading scorer for the Warriors, with 26 points. Jonathan Kuminga scored 13 points and Draymond Green, Klay Thompson and Ty Jerome had 11 each.

The Warriors (15-17) finish their six-game road trip against the Brooklyn Nets on Wednesday. Tip-off is at 4:30 p.m.

Golden State will be even more depleted at Barclays Center, as Kerr confirmed that Thompson will not play in the second of the back-to-back games.

“It’s always tough – the last one on the road’s always tough, especially on a back-to-back. But hopefully we can learn from what we did tonight and we can be better tomorrow,” said Warriors center Kevon Looney.

“Usually when we lose a tough one or we get embarrassed like we did tonight we usually respond well, so hopefully we can go out there and play a little angry and play a little tougher and play better.”

Tuesday night’s result was quite the opposite of the Warriors’ last contest against the Knicks at Madison Square Garden last December, when they won 105-96 and Curry became the NBA’s career leader in three-pointers.

Sunday evening the Golden State Warriors (15-16) took on the Toronto Raptors (13-17) at Scotiabank Arena. Although playing a pretty solid game against the 76ers on Friday night in Philadelphia the Warriors could not hold off the Sixers in the fourth quarter losing 118-106. They were looking to prove that, yes, they can prove to be relevant in the absence of Stephen Curry. They were on Sunday with a 126-110 win over the Raptors.

Curry and Andrew Wiggins remained out in this game but Draymond Green rejoined the team. The Warriors got a fast start winning the first quarter 36-26 and went on to win the second quarter 32-28 leading at halftime 68-54.

The Warriors did not let their foot off the pedal winning the third quarter 34-26. They let the Raptors make a bit of a run in the fourth quarter.

This was an absolutely amazing game for Jordan Poole who scored a career high 43 points. This was the first game this season that the team was able to win without Currry. Klay Thompson scored 17 points and the return of Green was also an important part of this win.

He also scored 17 points with seven rebounds. Green got the team on the scoreboard to start the game with three shots from downtown. Golden State had a great defensive effort in this game. This win snapped a three-game losing streak although the team is still struggling on the road with a 3-14 record. Kevon Looney finished with 11 points and 11 rebounds.

The team high for the Raptors was Pascal Siakam with 27 points followed by Fred VanVleet with 22.

The Warriors continue this road trip looking to get back to .500 on Tuesday night taking on the Knicks. Tipoff is scheduled for 4:30 PM.

BROWN FINED BY NBA
The NBA announced on Friday that Kings head coach Mike Brown was fined $25,000 by the league for what was termed “an explosive ejection” in the Kings’ 124-123 win in Toronto on Wednesday. The NBA said in a statement that Brown was fined for “aggressively pursuing and directing profane language toward a game official.”

Depleted Warriors Fall To 76ers 118-106

By Barbara Mason

A huge question looms going into the Warriors (14-16) game Friday against the Philadelphia 76ers (16-12). How relevant will Golden State be without Stephen Curry?

The 76ers are hot at home and this was a very tough game for the Warriors who dropped it 118-106. It does not stop with Curry, the team was missing Andrew Wiggins and Draymond Green as well. It was critical to keep the fouls and the turnovers to a minimum.

The Warriors after Friday’s are now on a four-game road skid and are on a three game losing streak with the loss to the Sixers. They needed to take care of the ball because opposing teams are scoring way too many points off those turnovers.

The starting line up for Golden State on Friday were: Klay Thompson, Kevon Looney, Jordan Poole, Jonathan Kuminga and Donte Divincenzo.

Friday game recap: The Warriors got a fast start courtesy of Donte Divincenzo who was four of four from downtown and the rest of the team needed to catch up with him. They had an eleven-point lead at one time but Philadelphia came back to within four points.

Golden State answered and led 29-22 with three minutes left in the quarter. The Warriors were shooting 74% in the opening quarter and led 38-33 after 12. They were nine of 12 from beyond the arc.

The 76ers did not lead once in the first half. The Warriors took a 57-55 lead into the locker room. Golden State cooled off in the second quarter but managed to hang onto the lead going into halftime.

Golden State had a great first half but the second half was all Philadelphia. They won the third quarter 33-24 and the fourth quarter as well. Joel Embiid finished with 34 points and 13 rebounds. James Harden also had a great night with 27 points. The Warriors just ran out of steam in the second half.

The Warriors came out with the right energy but they could not sustain it. Poole got a late start but did finish with 29 points. Divincenzi had 17 points with 10 rebounds. Looney was equally impressive with 11 rebounds and 14 points.

Golden State travels next to Toronto to take on the Raptors. Tipoff on Sunday is scheduled for 3:00 PM.

Warriors Fall Short On the Road Again Losing to Pacers 125-119

Warriors Fall Short On the Road Again Losing to Pacers 125-119

By Barbara Mason

Wednesday night the Golden State Warriors (14-15) took on the Indiana Pacers (15-14) at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. This is another road trip for the Warriors which has been a tough tough ride so far this season. The Pacers are 6-1 when leading after the first quarter and the Warriors are 1-9 when trailing after the first twelve minutes.

With four minutes left in the first quarter the Warriors had a 20-11 lead. Stephen Curry had been doing the majority of the heaving lifting. The Pacers crept right back into this game for the remainder of the quarter and lead 27-26 at the end of the first.

The Pacers poured it on in the second quarter leading after two quarters 74-54 in a total reversal. The Warriors began to turn the ball over and their shooting was erratic. With two minutes left in the half Indiana was 14 of 20 and had seven three’s. It was an amazing quarter for the Pacer’s after losing their last two games.

The Warriors gave up a 31-11 run in the quarter and Curry had scored half of Golden State’s points. The team needed the rest of the squad in the second half especially on the defensive end of the court. With the exception of Curry the rest of the team had gone pretty quiet.

The Warriors turned the tables on the Pacers after the half. They had been down 25 and cut the Indiana lead down to three 83-80 with under four minutes left in the third quarter. The Pacers led after three 93-87. The Warriors suffered a blow when Curry went to the locker room with an apparent shoulder injury.

The team would have to possibly finish this game without Curry. The absence of Curry, Klay Thompson and Andrew 12 Wiggins weighed heavily on Golden State. The turnovers continued for the Warriors and the five point deficit turned into . It did not get any easier for the Warriors when Draymond Green got ejected. Despite that Golden State fought to the end. They got to within a one possession game with 1:15 left on the clock. They just came up short losing 125-119.

The second quarter was the killer for the Warriors. They had not given up 47 points to any team in the entire league this season. Prior to his left shoulder injury Curry had shot for 38 points. The Warriors were missing some key components in this game but did play three amazing quarters.

Poole lit up in the second half shooting for 20 points. Donte Divincenzo and Moses Moody both finished with 15 points. Jonathan Kuminga did a great job guarding Tyrese Haliburton. This Golden State bench was outstanding in the second half. The team just got started far to late.

Friday night the Warriors travel to Philadelphia to take on the 76ers at Wells Fargo Center. Tipoff is scheduled for 4:30.

Clutch free throw shooting by Sacramento in the final 32 seconds helped the Kings hold off the Toronto Raptors 124-123 Wednesday at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto.

The Kings, who had six players score in double-figures, improved to 15-12; they trail Phoenix by one-half game in the NBA Pacific Division standings. Toronto slipped to 13-15.

After the teams swapped turnovers, Harrison Barnes sank a pair of free throws with :31.8 to go, putting Sacramento up 122-117. With :21.4 left Scottie Barnes was fouled in the act of shooting, and sank one of two at the line.

The Kings’ Malik Monk was fouled while shooting by Thaddeus Young, and made one of two free throws with :19 to play, giving Sacramento a 123-119 lead. Twelve seconds later, VanVleet scored on a short hook shot, pulling the Raptors to within 123-121.

Sacramento called a full timeout after VanVleet’s basket, and Fox was fouled while shooting with :05.9 left. Fox made 1-of-2 foul shots, and after a Toronto timeout, VanVleet missed a long 3-point attempt.

Fox led the Kings with 27 points and 10 assists, while Monk scored 24 points off the bench. Domantas Sabonis scored 21 points and grabbed 20 rebounds to go with seven assists, Terence Davis had 10 points, followed by Harrison Barnes with 12 points and eight boards, and Keegan Murray with 10 points.

The Kings’ Eastern road trip continues Friday, when the face the Detroit Pistons.
