Detroit Pistons Get A Clutch Time Win Against Golden State Warriors, 131-124

SAN FRANCISCO – On the last Friday night of January at Chase Center in San Francisco, the Detroit Pistons defeated the Golden State Warriors 131–124, ending a four-game losing streak and giving the Warriors an upsetting home loss.

Detroit entered the game as the best team in the Eastern Conference, boasting a 15–7 road record and a 7–3 streak over its last ten games. Meanwhile, Golden State was ranked eighth in the Western Conference and had a solid 17–7 home record.

Al Horford, Draymond Green, Moses Moody, Brandin Podziemski, and Stephen Curry made up the Warriors’ starting lineup. Curry, who led Golden State with 27.3 points and 4.9 assists per game, was just selected as a starter for the NBA All-Star Game, which will take place at the Intuit Dome in Inglewood, California. This will be the 75th NBA All-Star Game and the first to be held at the brand-new LA Clippers arena.

Detroit responded with a starting five of Tobias Harris, Duncan Robinson, Jalen Duren, Cade Cunningham, and birthday guard Ausar Thompson. Draymond Green, a native of Michigan born in Saginaw, attended Saginaw High School and spent four seasons at Michigan State, bringing symbolic meaning to the evening. A Michigan State University Draymond Green bobblehead was given to the first 10,000 fans in celebration of Green. The Golden State also had its Japanese Heritage Night inside Chase Center.

Curry, who made an early three-pointer and raised the streak to 88 straight games with a three-pointer, led the Warriors to an exciting start to the evening. After drawing a shooting foul on Detroit, Horford made two free throws, giving him an early 3-point play, which helped Golden State get off to a fast start.

The Pistons remained close to Golden State despite the team’s strong start. With six minutes left in the first quarter, Duncan Robinson made his fourth three-pointer and finished with 12 points, but 15 points for the night. Both teams had a strong offensive start, but Detroit took the lead by shooting 76 percent from the field in the first quarter.

Detroit finished the quarter with 15 team assists, including eight points and six assists from Cunningham. Detroit had a 45-37 lead at the end of the first quarter thanks to a late 8-3 scoring run. This was the most points the Pistons had scored in a single quarter this season.

Detroit continued to control the paint and went on a 9–6 scoring run to start the second quarter. Golden State had only eight points in the paint, while the Pistons had already scored 28, putting early pressure on the Warriors.

Draymond Green helped keep Golden State within striking distance, knocking down his fourth three-pointer of the half after hitting back-to-back pairs in each of the first two quarters. After an out-of-bounds call that initially ruled for the Pistons’ ball but was later challenged and overturned by the Warriors, Green received his tenth technical foul of the season.

Golden State started to rally after falling behind by up to 15 points, and because of a spark from its bench, the lead dropped to five points. Fan favorite Gui Santos energized the Chase Center crowd and the team with his effort and second-chance opportunities, scoring nine points in eight minutes.

Detroit scored 14 points off 10 Golden State turnovers, taking advantage of the Warriors’ mistakes. Both inside and on the fast break, the Pistons continued to dominate. Detroit regularly played well in transition and on pick-and-rolls, scoring 42 points in the paint by the half.

Cunningham led Detroit with 13 points, two rebounds, and seven assists at the half. Curry made his third three-pointer of the evening, while Green led Golden State with 15 points, three rebounds, and one assist. With a 77–64 lead, Detroit scored 42 points in the paint and 62 percent from the field on 31-of-50 shooting, which was the second-most amount of points the Pistons had scored in a half this season.

Detroit had a strong start to the second half. Cunningham made a dunk after the Pistons forced a steal on the first possession. Moses Moody fouled Jalen Duren, who then finished a three-point play shortly after.

Golden State began to show signs of mental exhaustion as the Pistons maintained their lead into the third quarter. Detroit was ahead 88-71 with eight minutes remaining. The Warriors went on a 13–5 scoring run as Curry sparked a response with a deep three-pointer and then a three-point play.

But Golden State’s turnover problems remained as they gave up 17 points, which Detroit turned into 29 points. Additionally, the Pistons outscored the Warriors 26–5 in fast-break points and 54–28 in paint points.

Detroit entered the fourth quarter in control with a 108–95 advantage, while both All-Star starting guards — Curry and Cunningham — had 23 points each, giving Bay Area fans a show on the last Friday of January.

Buddy Hield and Moses Moody made two three-pointers to start the fourth quarter for the Warriors, but Cunningham answered for Detroit. With ten minutes left in the game, Curry was ruled out due to right knee soreness.

With eight minutes to go, Detroit was ahead 117–106, but Hield made a crucial three-pointer that cut the lead to eight. Golden State was now within 117-112 when Gui Santos made a three-pointer to start an 11-2 run.

In the closing minutes, the game stayed close. Both sides were swapping baskets as the score stood at 122–116 with four minutes remaining. Detroit held a four-point lead at 126–122 late in the game. With an 8-foot fadeaway, Tobias Harris pushed the lead to six, but Melton responded by making both of his free throws, cutting the lead back to four.

The Pistons moved to 35–12 after defeating the Warriors 131–124. This ended a four-game losing streak for Detroit and was their first victory over Golden State since January 4, 2023.

Cade Cunningham led the Detroit Pistons with 29 points and 11 assists, leading the team’s attack and setting the game’s tempo. With 21 points and 13 rebounds, Jalen Duren had a fantastic evening as well. He dominated inside and helped Detroit keep a commanding lead in the paint. While Tobias Harris was perfect from the free-throw line, going 9-of-9, grabbing eight rebounds, and making big shots late in the fourth quarter, Duncan Robinson went 5-of-10 from three-point range (50%), stretching Golden State’s defense. Ausar Thompson contributed energy and defensive stops, especially during transition. Thompson also did his best trying to guard Stephen Curry, as he is one of the team’s toughest defenders.

De’Anthony Melton came up off the bench with 18 points, four rebounds, and three assists for the Warriors, while Stephen Curry led the team with 23 points before leaving in the fourth quarter due to knee soreness. Golden State was unable to get past the young and tough Pistons despite their best efforts, and the Warriors were unable to carry out their usual second-half comeback efforts.

On Tuesday, February 3, 2026, the Golden State Warriors will meet the Philadelphia 76ers at Chase Center in San Francisco to return to play. The Warriors’ Black History Month will begin at 7 p.m., and fans will have another opportunity to watch Golden State play at home ,hopefully with a different outcome.

Another Loss For Sacramento At Hands of Pistons 139-116; Loss is fifth straight for Kings

Sacramento Kings guard Russell Westbrook (right) drives against the Detroit Pistons guard Daniss Jenkins (24) in the first half at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit on Sun Jan 25, 2026 (AP News photo)

By Barbara Mason

The Sacramento Kings (12-35) suffered yet another loss stringing their defeats to five in a row. This loss came at the hands of the red-hot Detroit Pistons (33-11) 139-116. This game was tied after the first 12 minutes of play at 35 but Detroit broke the game wide open in the second quarter outscoring the Kings 43-30.

It was all downhill from there with Sacramento getting outscored in the third and fourth quarters. It was another low key game for the Sacramento starters but was again a great game for the bench who successfully scored 56 collective points scoring almost half of the total for the game.

Game recap: This game was a close one after the first 12 minutes of play tied at 35. This is a pattern the Kings have seen far too often from Sacramento leading to a collapse in the final quarters.

This game was more of the same with the Kings getting outscored 43-30 in the second quarter giving the Pistons a 78-65 lead at the half. The Pistons are leading the Eastern Conference and so expectations were pointing to a fifth win for Detroit in their last six games.

The Pistons outscored Sacramento in the third quarter 35-28 and went on to finish off the Kings in the fourth quarter outscoring them 26-23. This was Sacramento’s fifth loss in a row. The impressive winning streak that the Kings had celebrated earlier in the month was now a distant memory and they have settled back into mediocrity at best.

The Pistons Cade Cunnington had the high for the game with 29 points with eight of their bench players adding points. They have a very deep balanced team which explains the success they are having this season.

The Kings never really got any kind of lead after the first quarter which ended in a tie. They faltered mightily for the rest of the game The high for the Sacramento starters was DeMar DeRozan with only 16 points.

It was a disappointing showing for the starters. Domantas Sabonis was back in the starting lineup for this game scoring 12 points with 7 rebounds. The high for the team was off the bench with Malik Monk scoring 19 points.

The Kings shot around 60% from the line and the 19 turnovers hurt as well. conceding 28 points. The largest lead for Sacramento in this game was seven points which was overshadowed by the 25 point lead the Pistons had amassed.

As the Kings approach the trade deadline in early February they are sure to see some major overhauls. The way things are headed right now cannot continue for very much longer. With every game the Kings are seeing deepening disappointments so something has got to give and they will shortly find out what will transpire.

Game notes: Sunday afternoon the Kings took on the Eastern Conference leading Pistons. Domantas Sabonis started the game after playing off the bench since his return he scored 12 points. The Kings have now lost five games in a row after Sunday’s loss and will have to find some relief in their next game Tuesday in New York as they continue to struggle.

The Kings will next match-up with the New York Knicks on Tuesday evening with tipoff scheduled for 4:30 PM.

Kings Continue Winning Streak at 3 Beating Pistons 127-117

Sacramento Kings forward DeMar DeRozan left dribble drives past the Detroit Pistons forward Ausar Thompson (right) in the first half at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit on Mon Apr 7, 2025 (AP News photo)

By Barbara Mason

The Sacramento Kings (39-40) continue to impress beating the Detroit Pistons (43-36) 127-117. Zach LaVine had another monster game finishing with 43 points this time and DeMar DeRozan with 37. Domantas Sabonis finished with a triple double, 19 points, 10 assists and 15 rebounds. The Kings had trailed by as much as 18 points in the first half. Despite the back-to-back for the Kings they pushed through the fatigue to beat the Pistons.

Game recap: The Kings had a slight lead after the first 12 minutes of play 38-37 in a high scoring quarter. Both DeRozan and LaVine finished the opening quarter with double digits although the Kings did not seem to have the same energy they had Sunday night. Fatigue could be the culprit jumping on a plane after last night’s game and heading into Detroit to play again 24 hours later. The Pistons did not play Sunday night after losing to the Grizzlies Saturday night 109-103.

The Pistons took the lead in the second quarter and five minutes into the quarter had taken a 14 point lead. Sacramento took a time out looking to get a handle on this game before it really went sideways. Detroit had taken a 56-42 lead with 7:25 left in the half. Making matters worse for the Kings, Malik Monk was forced to leave the court and it was decided that he would not return for the remainder of the game with calf tightness.

Detroit continued to maintain their lead but was unable to extend it still leading by 14 through much of the quarter. The Kings had gone flat in the second quarter after a close first quarter of basketball. Sacramento, in the final minute of the second quarter, had cut the 18 point lead that the Pistons had to ten points. At the half, the Pistons had a 72-62 lead.

In this back-to-back game for the Kings the eight turnovers were really hurting them conceding 16 points on those turnovers. DeRozan had a great first half shooting for 22 points and was looking for help from Sabonis and LaVine in the second half.

With 33 seconds left in the third quarter the Kings tied the game and with 0.1 on the clock LaVine hit a 26-foot three to give Sacramento the lead 97-94.

LaVine had really come to life finishing the three quarters with 26 points. Sabonis already had a double double and was eyeing a triple double with eight assists. Jonas Valanciunas also had a double double with 11 rebounds and ten points.

The Kings got a hot start to open the fourth quarter with LaVine hitting three triples in the opening minutes. He was six of eight from beyond the arc and he had 35 points with a lot of game still left for more.

At 10:13 the Kings had a 106-102 lead. As the quarter wore on, both team were battling for this game with the Kings holding onto as much as a seven point lead. At the four minute mark Sacramento had a 117-112 lead.

Much like last night they were forced to finish the game and were looking to finish another game at the expense of Detroit in this tight ball game. With under three minutes left in the game, the Kings had a 119-112 lead.

The Pistons had gone cold; the Kings continued to extend their lead now leading 122-112. With under two minutes the Pistons finally scored and needed some stops trailing 114-125. Detroit didn’t get those stops and LaVine refused to back down continuing to play monster ball finishing with 43 points in the 127-117 win. He topped off the fourth quarter with his final three at 1:29.

The Kings cut down on their turnovers in the second half but it was (Heater) LaVine who could not miss from beyond the arc that turned the tide. He was eight of 11 and continues to have monster games as this season runs out.

DeMar DeRozan also had a great games finishing with 37 points and the fourth quarter was the dynamic duo of LaVine and DeRozan that brought this game home for the Kings third win in a row. They had erased an 18 point deficit in the first half and as Zach LaVine said “this was a do or die game.”

Game notes: Monday evening the Kings played their last road game of the 2024-2025 season taking on the Pistons in Detroit. The Kings continue to be without Keegan Murray who was a game time decision. It was decided that he was not quite ready to get back in action. Keon Ellis who was struggling with a sore hand was deemed able to rejoin the team as a starter. Trey Lyles started in the place of Keegan Murray. After a having a monster game Sunday night beating the Cavaliers, the Kings kept up the momentum and confidence they had in the Cleveland game with their win over the Pistons.

The Kings will now head home to Sacramento to finish up the season with their three final games at Golden 1. First up for the Kings will be a matchup with the Denver Nuggets with tipoff scheduled for 7:00 PM Wednesday night. The goal now for the Kings will be to get that ninth seed and home court advantage a very real possibility.

Butler dealt to Golden State from Miami; Durant doesn’t want to come back to Warriors

Newest Golden State Warriors and former Miami Heat Jimmy Butler comes over to San Francisco in exchange for Andrew Wiggins and Kyle Anderson who joins the Miami Heat a deal made on Wed Feb 5, 2025 (ESPN still photo)

By Jerry Feitelberg

The Miami Heat traded Jimmy Butler to the Golden State Warriors. Butler was not happy in Miami and did not get along with Pat Riley team president. Former Golden State Warrior Kevin Durant said he did not want to be traded to Golden State as his current team the Phoenix Suns are searching for a landing place for Durant.

One of the deals was to have Durant come to the Warriors and Butler would go to the Phoenix Suns. The deal now has Butler signing a $111 million two year deal that runs through 2026-27. Butler has declined the player option of $52 million.

The Warriors have sent Andrew Wiggins and Kyle Anderson to Miami that includes a top 10 protected 2025 first round draft pick. Dennis Schroder was traded to the Utah Jazz. The Jazz will now send former Miami forward PJ Tucker back to Miami. Tucker played for the Heat in 2021-22.

Guard Lindy Waters III will go to the Detroit Pistons leaving Golden State and Josh Richardson will go from Miami to the Pistons. Warriors head coach Steve Kerr informed the team of the trades before their game in Utah on Wednesday night.

Wiggins who got dealt to Miami was the team leading scorer with an average of 17.6 points. Wiggins was noted for being one of the best guards on the Warriors who defended both guards and forward and had the ability to play top level offense.

Wiggins was informed of the trade after taking warm ups before the game in Utah and shook hands with security guard, an assistant coach and two Warrior players before packing up his items at his locker in preparation for the trip to join the Heat.
