#1 The Montreal Canadiens swept the Winnipeg Jets in four games on Monday night with a 3-2 win. Tyler Toffoli who scored at 1:39 in over time sent the Canadiens to the next round. The Habs have won seven straight games since being down 3-1 to Toronto.

#2 New York Islanders head coach Barry Trotz is a genius of sorts the Isles who had a three goal lead were starting to lose control but Trotz calling a time out and calmed everyone down and the Islanders skated out and played their game getting a one goal 5-4 win over the Boston Bruins taking a 3-2 lead.

#3 The Tampa Bay Lightning are headed to the next round of the playoffs after getting a 2-0 win over the Carolina Hurricanes on Tuesday night in Carolina taking the series 4-1. The key to the game 5 win comes from the help of Lightning goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy who stopped all 29 shots for the shutout.

#4 Offensively the Lightning got scoring help from Ross Colton and Brayden Point who scored a goal each and it was enough to win game 5 to advance. Len, talk about Colton and Brayden’s scoring on Tuesday night for the win.

#5 The Vegas Golden Knights Mark Stone got a crucial goal early in overtime on Tuesday night at the Pepsi Center in Denver against the Colorado Avalanche for a 3-2 win breaking a 2-2 deadlock. Both goaltenders Marc Andre Fleury for the Knights and Phillipp Brubauer for the Aves were playing standing on their heads in this nail biter.

#1 The Montreal Canadiens (2-0) wasted no time jumping to a 2-0 series lead over the Winnipeg Jets (0-2). The Canadiens who had a successful previous series against the Toronto Maple Leafs that they won in seven games have really come into this series with a head of steam.

#2 The Canadiens took game 1 rather handedly 5-3 on Wednesday and on Friday night got an amazing shutout in a well played defensive game 1-0. Habs goalie Carey Price stopped all 30 shots for the shutout and they got their only goal in the second period by Tyler Toffoli which stood up for the win.

#3 The Vegas Golden Knights (1-2) avoided going 0-3 with a one goal win over the Colorado Avalanche (2-1) 3-2 on home ice at T Mobile Center in Las Vegas. The Knights got scoring from William Karlsson, Jonathan Marchessault, and Max Pacioretty.

#4 Matt, talk about tonight’s games we’ll start with game 4 between the Boston Bruins who lead the series over the New York Islanders 2-1 the Islanders have home ice at Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale.

#4 The Carolina Hurricanes are down 1-3 against the Tampa Bay Lightning (3-1) as they faced off today in Tampa Bay for game 4. The Bolts come away with a 6-4 win over the Canes with game 5 Tuesday night at Carolina.

NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs podcast with Marko:

#1 The Vegas Golden Knights (4-3) advanced by beating the Minnesota Wild (3-4) convincingly on Friday night 6-2. The Knights opened up the flood gates with three goals in the second period to run away with the game 7 win.

#2 Marko, talk about the Knights Mattias Janmark who scored two goals in the third period for a hat trick that added insurance goals for Vegas’ victory.

#3 On Saturday night with the their backs to the wall 3-2 the Montreal Canadiens pulled off a close shave with a victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs at the Belle Centre in Montreal to stay alive and tie the series at 3-3 in over time.

#4 It all boils down to game 7 on Monday night at the Maple Leaf Garden as the Canadiens and Maple Leafs face off to decide who goes to the next round as the Leafs have the advantage of having home ice.

#5 The Boston Bruins wasted no time with a 5-2 win over the New York Islanders at TD Garden in Boston to open the best of seven series. The Bruins one of the most potent offensive teams in the NHL proved that with this three goal win on Saturday night.

#1 The Tampa Bay Lightning (5-1-1) wasted no time getting on the scoreboard to defeat the Nashville Predators (4-5-0) on Monday night 5-2. The Lightning scored three times in the first period and Nashville goalie Juuse Saros took the loss facing 25 shots and saving 21.

#2 The Boston Bruins (6-1-2) down 3-1 to the Washington Capitals (6-1-3) in the third period erased the Caps lead scoring four goals to surpass Washington to get a 5-3 win at Capital One Center in DC.

#3 The Montreal Canadiens (6-1-2) are a machine after taking their first regulation loss of the season on Saturday to the Calgary Flames. The Habs got a big victory over the Vancouver Canucks (6-6-0) 6-2 at the Bell Center in Montreal. The Canadiens scored three times in each of the first and second periods.

#4 The Pittsburgh Penguins (5-4-1) and New York Rangers (3-4-2) tied in a 1-1 deadlock the Rangers were able to get two key goals in the third period and come up with a two goal win over the Penguins. Chris Kreider and Artemi Panarin scored a goal each for the Rangers in the third period for the 3-1 win.

#5 The Calgary Flames down 2-1 against the Winnipeg Jets going into the third period scored twice with Johnny Gaudreau and Andrew Mangiapane scoring a goal each to force an overtime shootout. In the shootout the Flames got two goals and the Jets one for the Flames 4-3 win.

#1 The St Louis Blues (3-1-1) got a two goal win over the Los Angeles Kings (1-2-2) 4-2 on Saturday night. The Blues got scoring from Torey Krug (1), Vince Dunn (1), David Perron (1), and Jayden Schwartz (1).  Blues goalie Jordan Binnington stopped 21 LA shots and allowed two goals.

#2 The Boston Bruins (3-1-1) had the offense scoring two goals in the second period and three goals in the third period to get a 6-1 win over the Philadelphia Flyers. The Bruins Patrice Bergeron and Brad Marchand each scored two goals.

#3 The Montreal Canadiens (4-0-2) lead for most of the game 2-0. The Habs scored three goals in the third period as the Vancouver Canucks scored two in the third for the 5-2 win. The Canadiens goalie Carey Price allowed two goals and stopped 23 shots.

#4 The Columbus Blue Jackets (2-2-2) got a 5-2 win over one of the best teams in the NHL over the Tampa Bay Lightning (3-1-0). The Jackets jumped to a 3-2 in  the first period and scored two goals in the third period.

#5 The game between the Florida Panthers and Hurricanes was canceled due to a lack of available players on the Hurricanes due to Covid-19 related issues. The Canes were missing five players key forwards Jordan Staal, Teuvo Teravainen, top defencemen Jacob Slavin also forwards Warren Foegele and Jordan Martinook.

#1 The Vegas Golden Knights Alec Martinez had a goal and an assist in his first game with the Knights that help defeat the visiting Tampa Bay Lightning 5-3 on Thursday night at T Mobile Center

#2 The Winnipeg Jets Mark Scheifele who went 12 games without a goal made up for lost time with a hat trick scoring three power play goals in the Jets victory over the Ottawa Senators 5-1

#3 The Toronto Maple Leafs shut out the Pittsburgh Penguins 4-0 as the Leafs goaltender Frederik Anderson stopped 24 shots. The Leafs Jake Muzzin score a goal with two assists.

#4 The Philadelphia Flyers Kevin Hayes got an overtime goal at 3:51 that was the difference in the Flyers 4-3 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets in Toronto. Stefan Matteau Jr scored his first goal since March 10, 2016.

#5 The St Louis Blues got a 1-0 shutout against the Arizona Coyotes as the Blues Ryan O’Reilly scored the games on goal and goaltender Jordan Binnington made 14 saves  for the shutout.

#1 The San Jose Sharks picked up their third win in four games defeating the Winnipeg Jets Saturday night 3-2. The Sharks Marcus Sorenson, Melker Karlsson and Timo Meier score one goal each.

#2 Jason Zucker of the Pittsburgh Penguins scored twice in his first game as a Penguin It was Zucker’s 15th and 16th of the season after coming to Pittsburgh in the 4-1 win  over the Montreal Canadiens.

#3 The New York Rangers got a 2-1 lead over the Columbus Blue Jackets when Chris Kreider found the back of the net in the Rangers 3-1 win. Rangers goaltender Alexander Georgiev stopped 36 shots.

#4 The Carolina Hurricanes Andrei Svechnikov got a second period goal the goal marked the sixth consecutive game for Svechnikov in his point streak. The Hurricanes picked up the 5-2 win over the New Jersey.

#5 The St Louis Blues Jay Bouwmeester may have played his last game after going into cardiac arrest in Anaheim medical staff re-started his heart by a defibrillator and had to have a battery powered device that will send an electrical shock to his heart in the event of a irregular heart beat

#1 The Washington Capitals Evgeny Kuznetsov and Lars Eller each scored a goal and had an assist that was just good enough to get by the Carolina Hurricanes on Friday night 4-3. The Caps Richard Panik and Jakob Vrana both scored a goal each for Washington in the 4-3 win.

#2 Washington goalie Ilya Samonov stopped 38 out 41 the Hurricanes tried throwing everything at him in the third period as they scored three times to come up one goal short in the Canes loss.

#3 Former San Jose Shark Joe Pavelski scored a goal and had an assist on Friday night as the Dallas Stars defeated the struggling Detroit Red Wings 4-1. Pavelski was honored by the Stars before the game for playing in his 1000th NHL game last month.

#4 The Montreal Canadiens signed Ilya Kovalchuk for $700,000 after he was bought out by the Los Angeles Kings, Kovalchuk scored 36 goals, nine points in 17 games for the Kings.

#5 Former Dallas Stars head coach Jim Montgomery has admitted that the decision to fire him was “appropriate” and that he’s had entered alcohol rehab. He called the firing a “wake up call” and said that the termination on Dec 10th.

#1 Leon Draisaitl and Alex Chiasson both had a goal each and an assist as the Edmonton Oilers defeated the Los Angeles Kings on Friday night 2-1. The win for the Oilers put them in first place in the Pacific Division.

#2 Tristan Jarry stopped 33 shots in the Pittsburgh Penguins victory over the Arizona Coyotes 2-0. Phil Kessel, a former Penguin, couldn’t score off his former teammate in the loss.

#3 The Montreal Canadiens edged the New York Rangers 2-1 on Friday night. The Habs’ Nate Thompson got a goal with less than two minutes left for the eventual game-winner.

#4 Kirby Dach, in a shootout, got the gamer with a fifth round goal and got the Chicago Blackhawks a win 2-1 over New Jersey. Hawks goaltender Corey Crawford prevented the Devils’ Jack Hughes from scoring for the final attempt in the shootout.

#5 Sportsnet was commenting on Brian Burke, who was a general manager for Vancouver, Anaheim, Toronto and now is team president in Calgary. Said that the league’s salary cap has been great for the sport, but it’s killed trade talk.
