#1 Len, the Montreal Canadiens got the hot hand and scored twice in the third period against the Columbus Blue Jackets in a 4-2 win in Columbus. The Habs Joel Armia got the go ahead goal at 17:03 to make it 3-2 for what would be later the game winning goal.

#2 The New York Rangers erased a 2-1 lead against the Detroit Red Wings scoring two goals in the third period to catch the Rangers and get the win 3-2. The Rangers Jimmy Vesey got a rebound and shot a backhanded goal at 4:15 against the Red Wings goaltender Ville Husso for the winner.

#3 The Los Angeles Kings five game win streak came to an end on Wednesday night against the Washington Capitals losing it 2-1 at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles. The Capitals got goals from Connor McMichael and Anthony Mantha and Caps goaltender Charlie Lindgren stopped 37 shots.

#4 The Vancouver Canucks dealt Anthony Beauvillier to the Chicago Blackhawks on Wednesday. Beauvillier had eight points on the season for the Canucks. Beauvillier was dealt to Chciago for a fifth round draft pick going to Vancouver.

#5 The Minnesota Wild acquired defenseman Zach Bogosian from the Tampa Bay Lightning for a seventh round draft pick, the Lightning traded Calen Anderson to the San Jose Sharks for Adam Raska and a 2026 fifth round draft pick.

#1 Matt taking a look at Friday night’s NHL action the Buffalo Sabres got scoring help from Jeff Skinner and JJ Peterka who both scored goals and got an assist to help defeat the Minnesota Wild 3-2 at KeyBank Center in Minneapolis. Sabers defenseman Henri Jokiharju scored the other Sabres goal with goaltender Devin Levi stopping 33 for Buffalo.

#2 The Florida Panthers Matthew Tkachuk and Carter Verhaeghe each scored a goal and an assist helping the Panthers to extend their win streak to three with a 5-2 victory over the Carolina Hurricanes on Friday. The Panthers Alexander Barkov scored a goal and an assist and Uvis Balinskis scored his first goal as a Panther at Amerant Bank Arena in Sunrise.

#3 The Washington Capitals center Evgeny Kuznetsov scored two goals to help beat the New Jersey Devils 4-2 at the Prudential Center in Newark on Friday night. In his season debut for the Capitals right winger Nicolas Aube-Kubel picked up a goal and an assist, Tom Wilson had two assists and goaltender Charlie Lindgren stopped 24 shots in the win for Washington.

#4 The Toronto Maple Leafs William Nylander scored two times and got an assist and picked up his 14th consecutive game point in the Leafs shootout win over the Calgary Flames 5-4 at Scottiabank Arena in Calgary. Leafs goaltender Joseph Woll stopped 24 shots in the one goal win.

#5 Matt what could you say about the Vegas Golden Knights who picked up a huge win over the San Jose Sharks on Friday night at T Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The Knights scored twice in the first period and picked up another three goals in the third period in the 5-0 final. Sharks goaltender Kaapo Kahkonen was just overmatched as the Knights attacked the zone and the net for multiple red lights behind Kahkonen in the San Jose loss.

#1 Len talk about the Ottawa Senators Tim Stutzle scored a goal and picked up three assists. The Senators scored three unanswered goals in 3:11 defeating the Toronto Maple Leafs 6-3 at Scotiabank in Toronto.

#2 In a trade on Wednesday the Minnesota Wild got Zach Bogosian from the Tampa Bay Lightning for a seven round draft pick in 2025, and Calen Addison to the San Jose Sharks for Adam Raska and a 2026 fifth round draft pick.

#3 The Colorado Avalanche Ross Colton forward was fined $5000 which is the maximum under the Collective Bargaining Agreement for cross checking New Jersey Devils forward Timo Meier on Tuesday night. The penalty came at 10:44 in the second period and Colton was hit with a major penalty and a game misconduct.

#4 The Chicago Blackhawks Connor Bedard is finding his way around goal creases, Bedard has three goals and five assists and has been a force with Nick Foligno and Philipp Kurashev on the same line. How crucial is Bedard for the Blackhawks.

#5 The San Jose Sharks picked up their first win of the season after losing 11 straight games. The Sharks goaltender MacKenzie Blackwood stopped 39 Flyers shots to save the night. The Sharks defeated the Philadelphia Flyers 2-1 after getting blasted by the Vancouver Canucks 10-1 and Pittsburgh Penguins 10-2. The Sharks defense looked far more improved against the Flyers can you talk about the improvements?

On the NHL Stanley Cup playoff podcast:

#1 It’s a thriller and a huge game tonight with the Seattle Kraken and the Dallas Stars who play for all the marbles tonight for the Western Conference second round. This is a real head to head with the series with the Kraken defeating the Stars in their last match up in game 6 in Seattle to stay in the series.

#2 The Stars are 3-5 in game sevens since moving from Minnesota in 1993-94 where they are 2-2 at home, the Stars lost last year’s game 7 to the Calgary Flames 3-2 at Scotiabank Saddledome.

#3 The Stars took that tough loss to the Kraken in game 6, 6-3 and forced a game 7, the Stars got a goal from Joe Pavelski his eighth of the post season but it was the turnovers that hurt the Stars in this last contest.

#4 The New Jersey Devils head coach Lindy Ruff may not know if he’ll be back next season but Ruff did lead the Devils to their best season in 41 years going 52-22-8 a 49 point improvement from last season. It also was the first time that New Jersey had qualified for the playoffs since 2018.

#5 Taking a look at some possible draft picks for the San Jose Sharks, as you know Connor Bedard and Adam Fantilli are not joining the Sharks in the draft. However taking a look at some draft possibilities Will Smith, Leo Carlsson, or Matvei Michkov. How would one of these players be of a big help for San Jose?

#1 There will be a game six in Tampa Bay against the Toronto Maple Leafs. The Lightning came away with a 4-2 win tonight the Leafs lead the series 3-2. Game six Saturday.

#2 After suffering a game 1 concussion against the Minnesota Wild Joe Pavelski has not played since April 17th and the Stars head coach Peter DeBoer says that Pavelski would be a game time decision for Friday night for game 6. Pavelski was checked by Wild defenseman Matt Dumba, Pavelski also was hit in the face with a stick by Wild forward Ryan Hartman and got caught between Dumba and Hartman.

#3 Len, talk about the check by the Colorado Avalanche Cale Makar for an interference on the Seattle Kraken’s forward Jared McCann. McCann was skating into the corner when the puck was hit into the netting behind the goal and Makar had lightly push McCann then when they got near the boards Makar shoved McCann into the boards which caused an injury to McCann.

#4 Len, talk about New Jersey Devils goaltender Akira Schmid who held the New York Rangers to just one goal on Monday night at Madison Square Garden in the Devils 3-1 win. New Jersey the win tied the series 2-2. Schmid stopped 22 of 23 shots which was key as the defense and Schmid’s performance was stellar.

#5 Winnipeg Jets center Mark Scheifele will sit out against the Vegas Golden Knights for game 5. Scheifele was injured at during game 4 Monday night when got a upper body injury. Jets head coach Rick Bowness said that Scheifele will be out for game 5 who has one goal in four playoff games. Scheifele lead the Jets with 42 goals during the regular season.

#1 The New Jersey Devils are contemplating starting Akira Schmid in goal for game 3 against the New York Rangers. An indication that Scmid might get the call first string goaltender Vitek Vanecek and second stringer MacKenzie Blackwood were on the other end of the ice during Saturday’s morning skate with Schmid defending by himself on the opposite end. Another indication Schmid led the players out on the ice for practice.

#2 The Los Angeles Kings certainly have not given in one bit they went up two games to one against the powerful Edmonton Oilers. The Kings broke a 1-1 deadlock after the Oilers were hit with a penalty which were defined as undisciplined penalties. The Kings capitalized scoring two goals on power plays at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles. The Kings overtake the Oilers for a 2-1 series lead.

#3 The Minnesota Wild came right back after getting beat by the Dallas Stars 7-3 in game 2 on Wednesday. On Friday in game 3 the series tied at 1-1 the Wild came back with a convincing 5-1 win to take a 2-1 series lead. The Wild scored twice in each of the second and third periods and got good goaltending from Filip Gustavsson who stopped 23 out of 24 shots.

#4 The Carolina Hurricanes Teuvo Teravainen will be out for the rest of the playoffs due to a broken left hand during the Hurricanes 4-3 win against the New York Islanders. Teravainen’s hand hit the stick of Isle forward Jean-Gabriel Pageau at 4:24 in the third period. Carolina head coach Ron Brind’Amour said that Pageau tomahawked Teravainen’s hand and broke his hand.

#5 Matt, taking a look at game to be played later tonight the Seattle Kraken and the Colorado Avalanche with the series tied 1-1 this one is at Climate Pledge Arena. The Avalanche just got by the Kraken in game 2, 3-2 to even the series. Aves goaltender Alexander Georgiev allowed only two Kraken goals in the first period and shut them out the rest of the way for the one goal win.

#1 The Winnipeg Jets and Calgary Flames are tied for second place in the Wild Card in the Western Conference. The Nashville Predators are just one point behind the Jets and Flames. The Predators have one game in hand on the Flames. The Predators and Flames face off in Calgary on Monday night.

#2 Minnesota Wild left winger Kirill Kaprizov is expected back in the line up tonight at the XCel Energy Center in St Paul after missing 18 games with a lower body injury. Kaprizov was injured on Mar 8 when he was taken down by Winnipeg Jets defenseman Logan Stanley in a 4-2. The Wild missed Kaprizov in the line who lead the Wild 74 points, 39 goals and 35 assists.

#3 The Colorado Avalanche defenseman Cale Makar and forward Darren Helm are out indefinitely due to lower body injuries both have missed two games in a row. Markar has missed nine games in a ten game stretch between Feb 9 to Mar 1.

#4 Matt talk about tonight’s game that has two winning teams the Vegas Golden Knights (49-22-8) and the Dallas Stars (43-21-14) taking a look at the high scorers for the Knights Jonathan Marchessault and Jack Eichel both lead with 27 goals. For the Stars Jason Robertson 45 goals and Roope Hintz with 35 goals.

#5 Matt, how impressive is it for the Seattle Kraken to clinch for a playoff birth in the second year of their turn around. The Kraken have done something in their short existence that other teams would hope they could do. Also the Kraken have a great minor league team to pool from the very successful Coachella Valley Firebirds.

#6 Saw former Vancouver Canucks head coach Bob Boudreau on the NHL Network since leaving behind the bench for the Canucks in February talk about his coming back to the NHL Network and is this a happier place for him than working at the Canucks?

#1 The New York Rangers Chris Kreider and Tyler Motte scored a goal each in the Rangers win over the Tampa Bay Lightning to notch closer to second place in the Metro Division. The Rangers picked up a 6-3 win at Madison Square Garden and are now just three points behind first place New Jersey Devils.

#2 The Calgary Flames are in a tie with the Winnipeg Jets for a second wild card for the Stanley Cup Playoffs in the Western Conference. The Flames defeated the Jets 3-1 at Canada Life Centre Wednesday night. You wanted to say something Jacob Marston.

#3 The Edmonton Oilers are having a great season and their closing in on first place in the NHL Pacific Division picking up their sixth straight win defeating the Anaheim Ducks 3-1. The Oilers Ryan Nugent-Hopkins reached 100 points and goaltender Jack Campbell stopped 27 shots. The Oilers extended their points streak to 12 games.

#4 The Minnesota Wild Kirill Kaprizov got to practice on Wednesday for the first time since Mar 8th due to a lower back injury. Kaprizov wore a non contact sweater during the practice. Kaprizov will sit out Thursday’s game against the Pittsburgh Penguins. However Kaprizov could return on Saturday against the St Louis Blues.

#5 The Washington Capitals will miss their first post season for the first time in eight years It’s the first time the Caps have missed the Stanley Cup Playoffs since 2013-14 season. The Capitals played .500 hockey (34-34-9) but was not good enough to make the playoffs. The Caps are in 13th place in the Eastern Conference.

#1 Dead last in the NHL Pacific Division the San Jose Sharks (19-36-12) who have now lost a seven of their last ten games and can’t hold a lead or when their tied.

#2 The Sharks have lost three in a row entering tonight’s game against the Columbus Blue Jackets at SAP Center. The Sharks took a tough loss in their last game to the Minnesota Wild (38-21-7) on Saturday 5-2.

#3 In the Saturday night loss Sharks goaltender James Reimer just couldn’t hold back the Wild attack in the third period giving up three goals and pretty much icing it for Minnesota for a three goal win 5-2.

#4 Reimer in net faced 28 shots, saved 24 and gave up five goals. This was a game where the Wild held the lead in all three periods: 1-0 in the first period, 2-1 after the second period, and 5-2 for the final.

#5 The Columbus Blue Jackets (20-38-7) who have lost four straight games and have struggled in their own right losing their last game to the St Louis Blues on Saturday 5-2. Troy how do you see tonight’s match up between the CBJs and the Sharks?

Five different Minnesota players scored, John Klingberg and Ryan Hartman each assisted on two of its goals, as the Wild defeated San Jose 5-2 Saturday at SAP Center.

It was the third straight loss for the Sharks after beating Winnipeg on the road on Monday.

The Wild (38-21-7, 83 points) opened the scoring at 1:44 of the first period on Jared Spurgeon’s 10th goal of the season, giving Minnesota a 1-0 lead t the first intermission.

San Jose (19-36-12, 50 points) tied the game at 1-1 at 10:19 of the second period when Logan Couture scored on the power-play on assists from Erik Karlsson – his 64th helper – and Tomas Hertl. It was Couture’s 23rd goal of the season. Minnesota regained the lead just over two minutes before the second intermission on a power-play goal by Frederick Gaudreau.

The Wild extended their lead to 3-1 30 seconds into the third period when Marcus Johansson scored his 14th. Hertl’s 19th goal of the season, a power-play tally, pulled the Sharks to within 3-2 at 8:36. But Mats Zuccarello scored for Minnesota on the power-play at 11:00 and Matt Boldy addd an empty-netter at 18:03 to put the game away.

Marc-Andre Fleury stopped 35 of 37 shots for Minnesota, while Sharks netminder James Reimer faced 28 shots, stopping 24.

The Sharks’ homestand continues on Tuesday, when they host Columbus.
