Boston Red Sox Triston Casas is carted off the field after clipping his foot with Minnesota Twins pitcher Joe Ryan, Casas went down and injured his left knee on Fri May 2, 2025 at Fenway Forcing Casas to miss the rest of the 2025 season.

Headline Sports podcast Charlie O Sun May 4, 2025:

#1 Boston Red Sox first baseman Triston Casas will be out for the rest of the season due to a ruptured left patellar tendon Saturday. On Friday night Casas was safe on a check swing that Minnesota Twins pitcher Joe Ryan miscued for an error. Casas stomped hard on the first base bag. Casas’ left foot hit Twins first baseman Ty France’s foot and fell down on his left knee. Casas had to leave the game on a stretcher.

#2 The Texas Rangers activated All Star shortstop Corey Seagar. Seagar had been on the ten day IL and returned on Saturday. The Rangers sent infielder Jonathan Orenelas was optioned to Triple A Round Rock. The Rangers missed Seagar who had been out with a right hamstring strain against the Sacramento A’s on April 22.

#3  San Diego Padres outfielder Fernando Tatis who was hit with a pitch on Friday in the left forearm by Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher Mitch Keller. Keller hit Tatis with a 93 mph sinker pitch. Padres manager Mike Shildt said x-rays proved negative. Tatis has been suffering with swelling, soreness but the contusion has improved and the medical staff cleared him to play on Saturday.

#4 Right hand pitcher Craig Yoho was sent down the minor leagues Triple A Nashville on Saturday. On Thursday Yoho walked four batters and gave up five runs in one inning of relief. In return the Brewers brought up right hand pitcher Elvin Rodriguez before their game against the Chicago Cubs.

#5 The Sacramento A’s had a successful road trip that puts the A’s over .500 at 12-7. The A’s have the winningest road record in baseball surpassing the Chicago Cubs and San Francisco Giants who are second and third respectively for winning road records. One of the keys to success in a season is winning on the road.

On That’s Amaury News and Commentary podcast:

#1 Amaury, Babe Ruth once said that he didn’t want to pitch every other day while playing a position in the outfield. Ruth had said this before 1920 before he was traded and converted to being an outfielder. Much the same can be said about Los Angeles Dodgers two way player Shohei Ohtani who is taking the year off from pitching. Ohtani the designated hitter is not throwing from the outfield like Ruth did but he did want to play everyday and not wear his arm out by being a pitcher.

#2 Xander Bogarts second baseman of the San Diego Padres suffered a left shoulder injury during Monday’s game against the Atlanta Braves. Bogarts was going for a ground ball when he landed his left shoulder on a bases loaded grounder. Bogarts was not able to make the throw on Ronald Acuna’s infield hit that allowed a run to score. Bogarts signaled for the dugout and manager Mike Schildt and the trainer. Bogarts was given tests and they proved to be negative. Bogarts status is day to day.

#3 The Tampa Bay Rays placed starter Zach Eflin on the 15 day IL on Monday night in a game against the Boston Red Sox. Eflin is suffering from back inflammation. Eflin struggled this season at 3-4, ERA 4.12. Last season Eflin went 16-8. The Rays were counting on him signing him to a three year $68 million contract.

#4 It was mentioned it was a great time to be a Minnesota Timberwolves and Minnesota Twins fan and a Dallas Mavericks and Texas Rangers fan. The Timberwolves and Mavericks of the NBA are headed for the third round of the NBA playoffs and the Twins are in third place only five games behind first place in the AL Central. The Rangers are just 1.5 games out of first place in the AL West.

#5 Amaury, the A’s are coming off an eight game losing streak. They went 1-9 on the last road trip in games played in Seattle, Kansas City and Houston and lost all but one of those games. They had to deal with the thunderstorms in Houston and now return to host the Colorado Rockies tonight here at the Coliseum. Can the A’s turn it around with home field advantage to open this six game homestand?

San Francisco Giants podcast with Daniel Dullum: An interesting newsworthy homestand this week for the Giants

Daniel, on Tuesday night against the San Diego Padres the Giants were running away with the game 10-1 when all of a sudden it was announced that Giants first base coach Antoan Richardson was ejected from the game for instigation.

After the Giants had stole a base and bunted with the nine run lead things got hot as the Padres felt the Giants were piling on. Padres third base coach Mike Schildt too exception to the Giants extra handiwork and started trading words with the Giants dugout more specifically with Richardson when Schildt barked to Giants manager Gabe Kapler to “control this motherf—-er.”

Richardson then came out of the dugout and then was told by third base umpire Greg Gibson to back in the dugout when Richardson didn’t get back to the dugout he was thrown out of the game. Richardson said the words of Schildt had the undertones of racism.

The next day Wednesday Schildt wanted to clear up the misunderstanding with Richardson and the two spoke behind the batting cage and later both addressed the media. Schildt said it was not his intention to make Richardson feel what he said was racial in anyway.

Richardson said the impact of those words had racial undertones because how the words are perceived in the black community and that words can have an impact on a person of color and their community.

After the ejection of Richardson, Giants coach Alyssa Nakken took over coaching over first base for Richardson making Nakken the first woman first base coach in Major League history. Nakken was in the batting cage which is located downstairs behind the Giants dugout was asked to come coach first base.

Nakken said looking past the historical significance of being the first woman to coach in a big league game at first base saying, “Right now in this moment as I reflect back, I reflect back to somebody needed to go out, we needed a coach to coach first base, our first-base coach got thrown out. I’ve been in training as a first-base coach for the last few years and work alongside Antoan, so I stepped in to what I’ve been hired to do, is support this staff and this team,”
