San Francisco 49ers podcast with Joe Hawkes: McCaffrey to rest calf will not play this Sunday vs. Rams; Mitchell to get some reps Sunday

San Francisco 49errs running back Christian McCaffrey (23) seen here looking for some daylight against safety Kamren Curl (31) of the Washington Commanders at FedEx Field in North Englewood MD on Sun Dec 31, 2024 (AP News photo)

On the 49ers podcast with Joe Hawkes:

#1 Joe as someone wrote that the flight home from Washington didn’t suck after the San Francisco 49ers picked up a win over the Washington Commanders on Sunday at FedEx Field after that tough loss a week earlier to the Baltimore Ravens.

#2 The starters will rest this Sunday against the Los Angeles Rams. Running back Christian McCaffey says he’s glad for the two week break for himself and all the starters before the post season starts in mid January.

#3 McCaffrey also said that his calf injury is pretty minor but head coach Kyle Shanahan said that is one of the reasons why McCaffrey will not play against the Rams this Sunday to get those two weeks rest and not to make the calf much worse.

#4 The 49ers Elijah Mitchell is healthy according to Shanahan. Mitchell has played in 15 of 33 games in the past two years and set the 49ers record for rushing with 963 yards back in 2021. Mitchell has missed the last three games and Shanahan said that when Mitchell is in the line up he’s as good as anybody. Also Shanahan said when McCaffrey was down Mitchell came in and took over against Washington.

#5 The 49ers host the Los Angeles Rams this Sun Jan 7th at Levi Stadium are on a run they’ve won their last three games. They’re last win coming against the New York Giants in an nail biter 26-25 at the Meadowlands. The Rams like the 49ers plan to rest their starters. How do you see this match up on Sunday?

San Francisco 49ers podcast with Augie Mesenburg: 49ers will rest starters vs. Rams Sun Jan 7th at Levi

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy (13) sends a pass to wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk (11) at FedEx Field in DC on Sun Dec 31, 2023 (AP News photo)

On the San Francisco 49ers podcast with Augie Mesenburg:

#1 Augie, how big was it for the 49ers to make this comeback against the Washington Commanders on Sunday after losing to the Baltimore Ravens last week on Monday Night Football?

#2 Augie, take a look at quarterback Brock Purdy a vast improvement over two weeks ago when the 49ers dueled with the Baltimore Ravens in a loss at Levi Stadium. In Washington DC the 49ers in the second half of Sunday’s game got two touchdowns that put away the game 27-10.

#3 Purdy threw for 230 yards, going 22-28, and two touchdowns. Was this a matter of the offensive line giving Purdy time to throw or the Washington defense just couldn’t push through to put pressure on Purdy?

#4 With the win and the loss of the Philadelphia Eagles the 49ers clinch for post season. Purdy thanked the Arizona Cardinals who defeated the Eagles that helped the 49ers clinch for a post season spot.

#5 The 49ers conclude the 2023-24 regular season with a game against the Los Angeles Rams. Augie, do you see the 49ers using their bench for most of this game or do you see head coach Kyle Shanahan using his starters for this one?

The Raiders scored the first touchdown of the game in the first quarter taking a 7-0 lead into the second quarter. Brandon Bolden rushed for seven yards and Daniel Carlson kicked the extra point. Carlson has had a great start to the pre-season and ended up making a real impact in this game.

With 1:35 left in the half, the Raiders Isaiah Pola-Mao had an interception return for 50 yards, breaking the tie giving the Raiders the lead 17-10. Just before the half, Raider kicker Daniel Carlson sent a 30 yard field goal through the uprights. Las Vegas took a 20-10 lead into the locker room.

Stetson Bennett rushed for four yards and a Ram touchdown. Los Angeles had cut the Raiders lead to 27-17.

The Raiders were relentless scoring a touchdown in the fourth quarter. Las Vegas had scored in every quarter of this game. Aiden O’Connell threw his second touchdown of the game, a two yard pass to Kristian Wilkerson. The Raiders were cruising with a 34-17 lead. That would be the final.

Las Vegas Raiders podcast with Rich Perez: Raiders get the offense and hold off Rams scoring in second half

Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Brian Hoyer (left) is sacked by the Los Angeles Rams linebacker Kier Thomas (96) in first half action in pre season action at So Fi Stadium in Los Angeles on Sat Aug 19, 2023 (AP News photo)

On the Las Vegas Raiders podcast with Rich Perez:

#1 The Las Vegas Raiders picked up their second pre season win with a defeat over the Los Angeles Rams. The Raiders defense held off the Rams second half allowing them to score just one touchdown and got the win 34-17 at So Fi Stadium in Los Angeles.

#2 Raiders quarterback Aidan O’Connell once again did his under center magic throwing two touchdowns going 11-18 in the second string role for the Raiders.

#3 Raiders running back Zamir White got some mileage running for a team leading 40 yards and Brandon Bolden carried for seven yards and one touchdown.

#4 Jimmy Garoppolo who is the figured for the first string quarterback threw for 39 yards no touchdowns talk about his looks for tonight.

Las Vegas Raiders podcast with Rich Perez: Carr benched looks to be finished with Raiders; Eagles express interest in quarterback

Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Derek Carr (4) was feeling the pressure of the Pittsburgh Steelers defense all game long particularly the second half where the Raiders were shutout on Sat Dec 24, 2022 in Pittsburgh (AP News photo)

On the Raiders podcast with Rich Perez:

Las Vegas Raiders head coach Josh McDaniels expressed his disappointment in the last two loses to the Los Angeles Rams and Pittsburgh Steelers both loses came in the last minute of the games. The Raiders in the second half of their game in Pittsburgh were completely shutout and quarterback Derek Carr could not get the ball moving.

On Wednesday McDaniels addressing the media said that Carr will be benched for the next two games and it was also reported that Carr will not even be in Allegiant Stadium suited up or otherwise for the games against the 49ers and Chiefs as the Raiders finish out their season in the next two weeks in Las Vegas.

Carr was not at practice on Wednesday and most likely he was told by McDaniels when he came to practice Wednesday morning that he would be benched and that he needed to clear out his locker his season was done. There had been talk that the Philadelphia Eagles who are looking for a starting quarterback are preparing to make a trade offer with the Raiders who earned over $22 million this season with the Raiders has three years left on his contract which the Eagles and Raiders might end up splitting.

Jarrett Stidham will be the Raiders new starting quarterback and Chase Garbers will be his back up. Stidham got a few snaps this season will see action against a powerful San Francisco 49ers defense whose pass rush is one of the most effective in pro football no doubt this will truly be a big test for Stidham and the Raiders offensive line trying to protect him.

The Raiders might express interest in Indianapolis Colts starting quarterback Matt Ryan if Stidham doesn’t pan out. Ryan will be a healthy scratch on Monday Night Football and will be replaced by Nick Foles. The Raiders might take a look at Ryan in the off season and he could be on the Raiders short list in finding a starting quarterback for 2023.

Las Vegas Raiders podcast with Tony Renteria: Raiders Christmas eve win in Pittsburgh can keep post season hopes alive

Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Keelan Cole (84) catches a 30-yard touchdown pass against New England Patriots cornerback Marcus Jones (25) during the second half at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas on Sun 12-18-22 (AP News photo)

On the Raiders podcast with Tony:

#1 The Las Vegas Raiders (6-8) got a win in a zany play when the New England Patriots Rhomondre Stevenson who got a hand off and ran for 23 yards and took the ball and flipped the ball back to teammate Jakobi Meyers who threw the ball cross field in order to keep the ball alive but the Raiders Chandler Jones was there to pick it up and run it 48 yards for a touchdown with no time left in the Raiders shocking 30-24 win.

#2 Tony did you feel that the Raiders had a little extra effort, a little extra something, a little anger in them after that Thursday Night Football loss to the Los Angeles Rams and they weren’t going to take no for an answer from the Patriots last Sunday?

#3 Sheer determination for a team that had won three in a row they believed in themselves and it showed it with grit toward the end of the fourth quarter to make the come back with just 32 seconds left the Raiders got miracles from Keelan Cole who caught a 30 yard pass for a touchdown with 32 seconds left and the Jones recovery with no time left.

#4 The Raiders are in Pittsburgh to face the Steelers (6-8) on Christmas Eve at Acrisure Stadium. The Steelers have won three of their last four games. The Steelers came away with a rather handedly win over the Carolina Panthers 24-16 last Sunday. Tony how do you you see this match up on Saturday?

Las Vegas Raiders podcast with Rich Perez: Raiders have home field against Patriots this Sunday

The Los Angeles Rams Jalen Ramsey (right) wasn’t covering the eyes of Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Devante Adams (17) from watching the Raiders fall but defending him after a completed catch in first half action at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles on Thursday Night Football Dec 8, 2022 (AP News photo)

On the Raiders podcast with Rich:

#1 Rich, It seems that after the Las Vegas Raiders had won three straight that they may have righted the ship but going to Los Angeles and losing to the Rams in the last ten seconds of the game last Thursday night throws that winning streak out the window?

#2 Breaking down the play the Rams in those last ten seconds saw wide out Van Jefferson caught a 23 yard pass from quarterback Baker Mayfield to get the Rams to the promise land for the 17-16 win over the Raiders.

#3 Baker Mayfield was all but given up by the Carolina Panthers and sent packing the Monday before last Thursday’s game. Panther head coach Steve Wilks did not plan to use Mayfield as either as a starter or a back up quarterback. Mayfield wanted out of Carolina and in his first game with the Rams made good use of his time to help LA pick up their fourth win of the season.

#4 It was a game where there was just not enough offense for the Raiders who didn’t score at all in third quarter and just a field goal would have helped them get that fourth straight win but it was all for not in the one point loss.

#5 The Raiders try it all over again as they face the New England Patriots (7-6) this Sunday at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. The Patriots have won four of their last six games and head coach Bill Belichick has not lost his touch in his clever ways to win a football game.
