San Francisco 49ers podcast with Marko Ukalovic: Could Santa Clara election turn control over to the 49ers?

San Francisco 49ers owner Jed York meets with the media back on Jan 24, 2020 during Super Bowl 54. York has reportedly spent over $3.8 million for the Nov 8th, 2022 Santa Clara Mayoral and City Council election (AP News file photo)

On the 49ers podcast with Marko:

#1 Reports say that the Santa Clara election on Nov 8th could be politically influenced by 49ers CEO Jed York who contributed to the campaign fund donating over $3.8 million through it’s sports franchises and related entities towards electing a new mayor Anthony Becker and five city council members after the York and 49ers had been hounded about paying stadium management revenues to the city over the last few years. The Niners settled with the city for $1.6 million.

#2 The City Council voted to settle the stadium management debt that the 49ers owed Santa Clara but not without much rancor as in that city council meeting Becker was reportedly shouting and cussing at Santa Clara Mayor Lisa Gillmor and city Councilwoman Kathy Watanabe causing them to call a policeman to stand in the meeting chambers for the rest of the meeting.

#3 After learning these reports Marko, how concerned are Santa Clara residents going into this election and could they be concerned that the Mayoral and city council races are heavily influenced by the 49ers and it could go the other way re-electing Gillmor because residents are afraid that the 49ers would have control on the city leadership?

#4 To this week’s action on the field Sunday’s win in Los Angeles over the Rams 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo went to work in the second half after the 49ers were down by four points at half.

#5 The Los Angeles Chargers (4-3) head to Santa Clara for Sunday Night Football on Nov 13th a 5:20 pm kickoff at Levi Stadium. The Chargers have won three of their last four games. How do you see this match up this Sunday night.

After tying the game in the first quarter 3-3 the Las Vegas Raiders and the Los Angeles Chargers battled throughout the contest on Sunday at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood. It had been nine years since Raiders quarterback Derek Carr and wide receiver Devante Adams had played together since college.

Carr hit Adams for an 11 yard pass on the opening drive of the game. It turned out that Adams would be Carr’s favorite target all afternoon throwing to Adams for five completions. Despite Carr and Adams hooking up the Raiders defense couldn’t hold the line in the second quarter as the Chargers scored 14 points.

“We did some good things,” Carr said. “There’s also some things that him and I, we were just talking about in the locker room, the way I see it, the way he sees it, and we’re trying to make that better. So yeah, we had production, but I think that we can be better, and so does he.”

It was a great afternoon for Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert had who went 26-34 threw for three touchdowns for 279 yards throwing to wide receivers DeAndre Carter and Gerald Everett.

The Raiders have their work cut out for them as they return to Las Vegas on Sun Sep 18th at Allegiant Stadium to host the Arizona Cardinals and Kyler Murray. The Cardinals have more a will to win after they got beat 44-21 by quarterback Pat Mahomes and the Kansas Chiefs in Glendale. Murray went 22-34, 193 yards and two touchdowns and was relieved by back up quarterback Trace McSorley after the game became lopsided.
