Webb shines as Giants sweep Rockies in 4-0 win, finish season .500

SAN FRANCISCO — The San Francisco Giants ended the 2025 season strong behind Logan Webb’s 5 1/3 shutout innings, as they beat the Colorado Rockies 4-0 at Oracle Park on Sunday afternoon.

Webb, in his final start of the season, struck out 8 in his five-plus innings, while walking none. The Giants’ ace righty struck out the side in the first inning.

Webb finished 2025 leading the National League in innings (207) and strikeouts (224). He’s the first to do so since 1944.

The sold-out Oracle Park crowd showed their appreciation for Webb’s dominant season with a standing ovation.

The Giants offense started the game strong, as shortstop Willy Adames smacked his 30th homer of the year on the first pitch of the game. Adames became the first Giant since 2004 to hit at least 30 home runs in a season. Barry Bonds hit 45 home runs in 2004.

The Giants scored again in the fourth inning on a solo home run by Rafael Devers. Devers finished the season with 35 home runs, combined between Boston and San Francisco.

The Giants’ bullpen held the Rockies scoreless after Webb departed in the sixth.

The Giants tacked on two more runs in the eighth inning on a 2-RBI single by Jung Hoo Lee. Lee ended the day 3-for-4 with 2 RBI.

The Giants ended the year going 11-2 against the Rockies, but it wasn’t enough wins for the Giants to get into the postseason. It turns out that 84 wins would’ve been enough for the Giants to get into the 2025 MLB Playoffs.

San Francisco ended 2025 at 81-81.

The Giants will now go into the offseason trying to figure out why they finished the year at or around .500 yet again. After the game, Adames and third baseman Matt Chapman addressed the sold-out crowd promising that next year will be better.

But Giants fans have heard the same thing after season finales since 2022. Will 2026 be different?

#1  New York Yankees star outfielder Aaron Judge will go on the ten day IL suffering from a right elbow flexor strain. The injury during a scan did not show any damage to the elbow and will not require surgery but a big bat out of the Yankees line up.

#2 Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said “wheels up” regarding the return of Mookie Betts who was out due to a death in the family. Betts went to attend to his family in Nashville. The Dodgers had the day off Thursday and made it back to join the Dodgers in Boston before first pitch.

#4 Tough outing on Friday for San Francisco Giants starter Logan Webb he was lit up by the New York Mets at Oracle Park in four innings eight hits, six earned runs, one walk and four strike outs. Webb suffered the most runs given up in the first four innings of the game.

#5 San Francisco Giants who were crushed on Friday night 8-1 suffered another hit when it was announced that right hand starter Landen Roupp was placed on the 15 day IL with elbow inflammation. Roupp had an MRI and was negative for structural issues.

#1 Morris, just wanted to get your prospective if you can see the Sacramento A’s Brent Rooker as someone who the San Francisco Giants might want to covet. Rooker came close to winning the Home Run Derby at the All Star Game literally coming within an inch of winning the derby but falling that short to the Philadelphia Phillies Kyle Schwarber. No doubt Rooker will be sought at the trade deadline.

#2 The Giants Logan Webb representing the Giants pitched for one inning gave up one hit and Randy Rodriguez pitched two thirds of inning giving up one hit, one earned run, and one walk. Two good outings for San Francisco at the All Star Game.

#3 It’s the first time the Giants have had three All Stars since 2021. The Giants have been getting great pitching from this season’s All Stars Robbie Ray, Rodriguez and Webb.

#4 Robbie Ray didn’t pitch for the Giants because he pitched on Sunday. Ray started out with strong beginning at 8-1. Ray right now is 9-3 and has been throwing heat.

#5 The Giants return to second half action as they open up a three game series against the Toronto Blue Jays at Rogers Centre on Friday night. Starting pitcher for the Giants RHP Justin Verlander (0-7 ERA 4.70). The Jays will start RHP Chris Bassett (9-4 ERA 4.12).

Despite Solid Pitching By Logan Webb-Giants Drop Game One to Angels 2-0; Halos Anderson pitches six innings of shutout ball

The San Francisco Giants (13-7) fell to the Los Angeles Angels (10-9) 2-0 in game one of their three-game series. Logan Webb had a spectacular game with no walks, 12 strikeouts stumbling a bit in the second inning.

Webb struck Mike Trout out three times. It was a tremendous outing for Webb but the Giants still got stuck with a loss. There was very little going on offensively for San Francisco coming away with only four hits.

Game recap: After a quiet first inning, the Angels had a very productive second inning. Three doubles and a Matt Chapman error had gave Los Angeles a 2-0 lead. Zach Neto doubled Nolan Schanuel home for the early 1-0 lead. Neto would go on to score when 3rd baseman Matt Chapman encountered a fielding error. Jo Adell and Schanuel also had doubles in the inning.

A pitchers duel got underway with six scoreless innings. Webb had a great start despite the two runs. He really pulled it together finishing six innings allowing four hits, one earned run, no walks and 12 strikeouts. He was relieved in the seventh inning by Randy Rodriguez. Webb had dismissed Mike Trout not once or twice but three times in the game.

The Angels Ty Anderson also had a good game going six innings allowing three hits, no runs, two walks and six strikeouts. He was relieved in the seventh inning by Brock Burke who allowed 1 hit and no runs.

Going into the eighth inning the Giants had to get something going. They were running out of time . The Giants had two walks in the inning but Matt Chapman and Willy Adames both struck out, Heliot Ramos lined out and that was the inning.

The offense for San Francisco had been extremely quiet. The Angels had five hits in the game, the Giants four. San Francisco had been on second base a couple of times in the game but their offense was for the most part pretty stagnant.

It all came down to the ninth inning for San Francisco. It was their final chance to get some offense going while Los Angeles would be looking to hang onto their 2-0 lead and finish off San Francisco.

The Angels Kenley Jansen would try to close this game out and take the first game of this three-game series. It was a three up and three out for San Francisco and Jansen got the job done for the Los Angeles win.

The Giants had wasted an incredible pitching effort by Logan Webb having trouble hitting off Angel pitcher Ty Anderson. It was just one of those night’s where not much was working.

Game notes: After splitting a series with the Phillies to start this past week, the San Francisco Giants headed out west taking on the Angels in a three game series Friday night. It was a 60 plus degree day with the promise of mid-Seventies over the weekend a far-cry from the horrendous conditions in Philadelphia.

Logan Webb was on the mound for San Francisco while the Angels started Ty Anderson. The Giants have been playing some very good baseball taking early leads as well as some come from behind wins. The Giants have slipped into third place with the Padres and Dodgers holding down the first two spots in the National League West. The loss Saturday didn’t help their position against the Dodgers and Padres in the standings.

Saturday the Giants will be looking to even the series with first pitch scheduled for 6:38 PM. San Francisco will send Landen Roupp (1-1, ERA 4.80) to start this game and the Angels will feature Kyle Hendricks (0-1 ERA 4.20) on the mound.

#7 The Dodgers owe eight players $1 billion did the Dodgers get into the red with the inflated payroll that they have.

#8 The salary cap has been a well talked about issue as the Collective Bargaining Agreement is up after the 2026 season it’s an issue that could trigger a players strike.

Giants These Days Far More Interesting As A Collection of Individuals, Then As A Team

SAN FRANCISCO—Four critical ballgames against a contending opponent, and the Giants won once. It’s simply not good enough, given the money invested in the team, and the expectations of the team leadership and the fan base.

But it in 2024, it is exactly what it is. At 62-62, after Thursday’s 6-0 win, the Giants are a .500 team for the mind-numbing eighth time and the fourth time in just the last 11 days. When it gets better, it inevitably gets worse, for better or worse.

Inside the numbers, the Giants fare far better against bottom feeders than they do against teams with winning records like the Atlanta Braves, who got completely healthy over the first three games of this series, before suffering a hiccup on Thursday.

Manager Bob Melvin, a three-time manager of the year who reeks of success, was reduced to prefacing his post-game answers with a telling, tepid statement.

“We’ve been in that situation a bunch and haven’t scored, so we had to try something different,” he said.

That situation in the second inning was easily the coolest thing to transpire during a rough home stand (3-4 with a season-defining, four-game losing streak): Rookie Grant McCray raced to his first-ever hit on a bases-loaded, bunt single, RBI. The skeptical crowd (29,319) rejoiced, the seas parted, and the sky opened because the Giants had scrapped together an early lead.

McCray was really funny in the clubhouse, trying to say something about the play but not really having a bunch of different descriptive words to describe it.

“I did a job for my team and got the scoring going. I can’t be more thankful for that,” McCray said.

McCray’s dad, Rodney, lit up in the stands. He made an emotional, overwhelming, but brief exit, up the aisle to a bunch of hi-fives. Rodney McCray famously, yet cringeworthy to the game announcers, crashed through the outfield fence at a Pacific Coast League game in Portland in 1991 and wound up all over the airwaves, and SportsCenter, for decades.

Again, his son Grant was in the clubhouse, trying to be descriptive.

”Today I just came in with the mindset of it’s just another game. Play hard and do your job,” McCray said.

In the sixth, McCray homered, and his first two major league games gained heft and record-book notoriety. In fact, his father Rodney might want to stick around for the weekend in Oakland. Grant could surpass his dad’s 14 career at-bats and three hits in just four games.

Logan Webb was dialed in again, working into the eighth inning efficiently (21 first-pitch strikes to 27 batters) and decisively, another reminder that Webb could be the lead actor in Broadway play with the Giants’ roster as his supporting cast for many seasons to come. On Thursday, when Webb took his final bow, the crowd howled with approval. Braves manager Brian Snitker played witness.

“(Webb) was going to give their bullpen a break, and he did. And he was efficient. Very, very competitive guy with really good stuff. And with that sinker, really throws a lot of strikes,” Snitker said.

Tyler Fitzgerald continued his fantastic Major League debut season with a hit and an RBI sacrifice fly. Casey Schmitt hasn’t had a bunch of opportunities or success, but he had a productive game with three hits, including a two-run homer.

A lot of good storylines and individual progress, those Giants, but not any more wins than losses. That’s them.

Again, Grant McCray in the clubhouse, beginning to warm to the occasion.

“It might be a fielder’s choice, but I’ll take a free hit,” McCray said of his bunt, which appeared to be a play in which no way, no how, was any throw going to clip him at first. “It doesn’t hurt my feelings.”

#1 Amaury didn’t get a chance to ask you about the San Francisco Giants All Star selections with Heliot Ramos and Logan Webb. Ramos is hitting .299 with 63 hits, 12 home runs, 41 RBIs. Webb is 7-6, ERA 3.09. Talk about the season they’re having.

#2 Oakland A’s reliever Mason Miller has been selected to represent the Oakland A’s at the All Star Game. Miller is 1-1, ERA 2.39 has been lights out in relief and has consistently thrown over 100 MPH to opposing hitters to get 14 saves.

#3 For the third time Atlanta Braves Marcell Ozuna will be participating in the 2024 All Star Home Run Derby. Kansas City Royals shortstop Bobby Witt Jr will be making his first appearance at the Home Run Derby. Ozuna and Witt were already to scheduled to play in the All Star Game but were selected for the Home Run Derby.

#4 Maybe it would have been better for former Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Raul Mondesi has been sentenced in the Dominican Republic for corruption. Mondesi was mayor of the Dominican town of San Cristobal. Mondesi was sentenced six years and nine months for embezzling up to $5 million during his time as mayor between 2010-2016.

#5 New York Mets Pete Alonso will participate in his fifth straight home run derby. Alonso is trying to win for a third time. Alonso says that if he wins he plans to help donate to the Wounded Warrior Project and Tunnel of Towers and help refurbish amateur baseball fields.

#1 It was the return of catcher Curt Casali who was in the Chicago Cubs Triple A Iowa system after being released by the Cincinnati Reds and the he quickly signed a one year deal with the Giants and started at catcher on Wednesday night against the Los Angeles Dodgers and did superb work behind the plate in calling pitcher Logan Webb’s pitches.

#2 Webb went six innings and gave up three hits and struck out five hitters. Casali when he was catching for the Giants in 2021 and parts of 2022 was noted for handling the pitchers well and after being away from San Francisco for two seasons looks like he hasn’t lost a step.

#3 The Giants made room for Casali putting catcher Tom Murphy on the 60 IL with the sprained left knee and Jackson Reetz was demoted to Triple A Sacramento. Do you see Casali getting most of the starts behind the plate until Patrick Bailey returns from his concussion protocols?

#4 Yes and we have to ask you about Webb’s performance on Wednesday night. He went six innings and gave up three hits. It was quite a performance keeping the Dodgers off balance in a 4-1 win.

#5 Giants and Colorado Rockies match up on Friday night at Oracle Park. For the Rockies RHP Ryan Feltner (1-3, 5.20) and for the Giants LHP Kyle Harrison (3-1, 3.42 ERA) for a 7:15pm PT first pitch.
