That’s Amaury News and Commentary podcast:

#1 Amaury just wanted to get your take on the Sacramento A’s signing Tyler Soderstrom on Monday for $86 million a seven year deal and the contract could max out at $131 million. Soderstrom in 2025 hit .276, 25 home runs and drove in 93 RBIs.

#2 The A’s also had acquired utilityman Jeff McNeil in a trade with the New York Mets. The Mets are making deals to add players to their roster. McNeil cones with right hand pitcher Yordan Rodriguez and $5.75 million the Mets share of McNeil’s $15.75 million salary for 2026. The Mets also agreed to pay McNeil’s $2 million buyout if Sacramento doesn’t exercise his 2027 club option.

#3 Former A’s outfielder JJ Bleday has signed a $4.1 million one year contract with the Cincinnati Reds. Bleday hit .212, 14 home runs, with 39 RBIs with Sacramento last season. Bleday’s average dropped from the 2024 season when he hit .242, 20 home runs and 60 RBIs which was a career best.

#4 Amaury, let’s take a look at Baseball Hall of Fame candidates for the class of 2026 amongst them on the ballot leading the way is former San Francisco Giant Carlos Beltran who fell just short in the last election in 2025 with 70.3% of the vote, former Atlanta Brave outfielder Andruw Jones with 66.2%. How do you see Beltran and Jones chances for the next election?

#5 Finally turning to football San Francisco 49er play by play announcer Greg Papa’s expected return back to the booth last Sunday night at Levi Stadium was put on hold as Papa is in remission after he was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia back on July 16th. Papa is still having spells of brain fog, dizziness, blurred vision, that forced his return to be put on hold. Papa has been the 49ers play by play announcer since 2019. Papa was also a play by play announcer for the then Oakland A’s from 1993 to 2003 doing TV.

Bleday and Gelof Power Sacramento to 11-3 Win Over Cardinals

By Mauricio Segura

The Sacramento Athletics rolled into Busch Stadium on Sunday afternoon with a chip on their shoulder and left with a resounding 11-3 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals, fueled by a pair of timely home runs and a relentless offensive push. What started as a tight pitcher’s duel unraveled quickly once the Green and Gold bats came alive in the fourth inning, changing the game’s complexion in a hurry.

Luis Morales set the tone early for Sacramento, working through traffic in the first inning after Lars Nootbaar’s leadoff single. Despite a wild pitch that moved the runner into scoring position, Morales regrouped to fan Nolan Gorman and leave the Cardinals empty-handed. That early escape gave the Athletics a chance to settle in, though the bats needed time to wake up. For three innings, Sonny Gray looked sharp for St. Louis, keeping the A’s quiet while Morales matched him with his own clean frames.

Everything shifted in the top of the fourth. Darell Hernaiz reached on a single, and JJ Bleday punished a pitch over the right-field wall for his 11th homer of the year, putting Sacramento on the board. Moments later, Zack Gelof followed with a blast of his own to right-center, suddenly turning a scoreless tie into a 3-0 A’s advantage. The Cardinals answered quickly with a solo shot from Iván Herrera in the bottom half, but Morales once again steadied himself by retiring the next three hitters to hold the damage to a single run.

The Athletics kept applying pressure. In the sixth, Hernaiz doubled and came home on a Colby Thomas single before Bleday went deep again, crushing his second homer of the afternoon and extending the lead to 5-1. While Morales tired in the bottom half, allowing a run-scoring single by Masyn Winn, Justin Sterner entered to snuff out a brewing rally and protect a 5-2 cushion.

Sacramento’s knockout punch came in the seventh. Lawrence Butler worked a walk, Jacob Wilson lined a single, and Brent Rooker split the gap with a ground-rule double to score one. Tyler Soderstrom then added an RBI knock of his own, and suddenly it was 7-2 with the Cardinals gasping for air. Two innings later, the A’s turned Busch Stadium into their own batting practice facility. Bleday reached on an error, Gelof doubled, and after a fielder’s choice scored a run, Butler and Wilson combined for back-to-back hits to make it 9-2. Soderstrom capped the rally with a two-run double, pushing the advantage to 11-2 and sending much of the St. Louis crowd heading for the exits.

The Cardinals tried to scrape together a rally in the ninth. Thomas Saggese doubled and came home on a pinch-hit single by José Fermín, trimming the deficit slightly, but it was far too little, far too late. Scott McGough, closing things down for Sacramento, silenced the final three hitters in order to seal a dominant win.

Bleday finished with two home runs and three RBIs, pacing the offense with authority. Gelof added a homer, a double, and two runs scored, while Butler and Wilson each reached base multiple times and crossed the plate with consistency. Soderstrom’s three hits and three RBIs rounded out a balanced attack that saw nearly every spot in the lineup contribute. Morales picked up the win despite some control hiccups, striking out five and allowing just two runs across five and two-thirds innings before turning it over to the bullpen.

That’s Amaury News and Commentary podcast: Memories of the Coliseum; Players are not happy about playing on artificial turf in Sacramento

Artificial turf attached to rubber mat. Artificial turf can add 40-50 degrees on hot surfaces. Sacramento had over ten days in a row of 100 degree days which could bring 150 degree games on the field at Sutter Health Field which the players, MLBPA, and agents are concerned with. (photo by iStock.com)

On That’s Amuary News and Commentary:

#1 Amaury, over the many years you’ve worked with literally 100s if not 1000s of different people here at the Oakland Coliseum from reporters like Ray Epstein, Winn Courier, Andy Cox, Ray Bergman, Ken Gimblin, Renee Del La Rosa, Omar Moreno, Mark Ibanez, Rich Lieberman, Sam Skinner and A’s photographer Michael Zagaris just to name a few.

#2 Amaury, when you look back at those great championship teams of the past that the A’s had from 1972-74. It’s hard to believe that those teams won three in a row and could have very well been as good as some of those New York Yankee teams of the 1950s.

#3 This particular A’s team this season after the All Star break had a break out season in July they were one of baseball’s winningest teams. They launched the great talents of slugger Lawrence Butler and closer Mason Miller. It was a breakout year for Brent Rooker, Shea Langeliers, and JJ Bleday who provided a lot of offensive punch for Oakland.

#4 You got to see those great A’s teams from 1988-90 that former owner Walter J Haas Sr assembled and went onto win three consecutive American League Championships.

#5 Amaury, While MLB says it’s a certainty that the A’s are headed to Sacramento for the 2025 season it still remains to be seen when the Major League Players Association will sign off on approving to play at Sutter Health Park in Sacramento.

#6 Behind the scenes the players are not in favor of the move and Scott Boras said the A’s should play at the Oakland Coliseum in the interim while the Las Vegas park is being built. From what we understand the players union and agents are not in favor of playing on turf and the facilities in a minor league park are not up to MLB standards.
