On Headlines with Jessica:

#1 Jessica, Golden State Warrior Draymond Green and former Warrior Kevin Durant are passing off the blame for for a very public argument they had on the bench during a game against the Los Angeles Clippers in 2018. Green hosting a podcast called Chips by Bleacher Report said the argument led to Durant leaving and it was head coach Steve Kerr and general manager Bob Myers fault and Green said that Kerr “acted like it didn’t happen”

#2 The blame game by Green and Durant are baffling because it was Green who shouted at Durant during a time out about a botched play that led to Green telling Durant to leave the team if he wasn’t going to sign a contract extension. Green’s outburst was seen on national television and later Kerr suspended Green for one game and Durant did leave for Brooklyn after the Warriors lost the NBA Finals to Toronto.

#3 Jessica, how bad are these practices and scrimmages with other teams. Some might think it’s a bad idea when the two teams meet each other in practice the week before the game. The Las Vegas Raiders and Los Angeles Rams were no exception on Wednesday when bad blood led to helmet throwing and punches thrown.

#4 Raiders head coach Jon Gruden was asked what his message was that he had no message that there was a lot of “trash talking, it was sickening, it’s just stupidity. I’m done with that. It’s just child’s play to me.” Pre season is in it’s second week and there is a long season to go don’t be too surprised to see more these types of scrapes in practices.

#5 Jessica, how heartbreaking is for the Jets after losing free agent defensive end Carl Lawson ruptured his Achilles tendon. The injury took place during a joint practice between the Green Bay Packers and Jets during a red zone run during Thursday’s practice. The players took a knee in prayer for Lawson as he was attended to by the medical staff.

On Headlines with Jessica:

#1 Tennis returns to the San Jose State campus for the Mubadala Silicon Valley Classic for Aug 2-8. This year’s tournament will be missing Serena Williams, Naomi Osaka, Ash Bartly, these are some top names that draw fans to the tournament. None the less with Sloane Stephens, Madison Keys, Sofia Kennin to name a few will be in the tournament it should be a draw.

#2 The Oakland A’s who have been a mainstay in the Bay Area since 1968 have one foot out the door as the Oakland City Council votes on the A’s new Howard Terminal ballpark this Tuesday. The A’s want three infrastructure developments the park, retail and housing without affordable housing. The city is willing to do the ballpark and half a billion apart on financing it.

#3 Former San Francisco 49ers cornerback Richard Sherman might have put the icing on the cake for any chance of returning to football after having a driving under the influence, reckless endangerment of roadway workers, second degree criminal trespass, third degree malicious mischief, and resisting arrest on Tue Jul 13th. Sherman appeared in King County District Court and plead not guilty on Fri Jul 16. Thankfully no one was hurt or killed during Sherman’s drunken tirade. Sherman has never been in trouble before and has had such good reputation on and off the field.

#4 New York Yankees have Aaron Judge, Gio Urshela, Kyle Higashioka, joined the Covid 19 injured, New York pitchers Jonathan Loaisiga, Nestor Cortes Jr, and Wandy Peralta some were vaccinated and still tested positive.

#5 You could see the difference in the Yankees play as they have six players on the Coronavirus injury list and were defeated by the Boston Red Sox behind a 4-0 shutout. Eduardo Rodriguez pitched shutout ball for 5.2 innings and the bullpen kept the Yankees off the scoreboard the rest of the way at Yankee Stadium Friday night.

#1 Jon Rahm was forced to withdraw from the PGA Memorial Tournament due to contracting Coronavirus. Rahm was emotional and seen crying after being told he was disqualified from the tournament. Rahm had been vaccinated after having contact with someone who had the virus.

#2 Jessica, Talk about another hard luck story the Brooklyn Nets James Harden who had to leave game 1 against the Milwaukee Bucks on Saturday night in Brooklyn due to a hamstring injury. Harden played only one minute and 43 seconds and had to leave the game after pulling up after driving.

#3 Essential Quality held off runner up Hot Rod Charlie at the Belmont Stakes on Saturday. Hot Rod had lead during the race but Essential Quality caught up and wound up winning by a length in an exciting finish.

#4 In other Belmont Stakes news protestors outside of the race said their were over 90 horses that have raced have died at the Belmont and the horses are being used to make millions which could go to help New Yorkers. “For far too long, this industry has been given cover under the banner of sport, indeed, the sport of kings,” said Patrick Battuello, founder and president of Horseracing Wrongs. “When in fact, stripped to its core, it’s nothing but animal exploitation, animal cruelty and animal killing. This cannot be fixed or reformed. It has to end.”

#5 Jessica, former Los Angeles Lakers great Magic Johnson said on LA’s radio station AM 570 that the Lakers Dennis Schroder is “not a Laker” and “he doesn’t bring the mentality and attitude we need.” Magic also added ” He had a chance to show that in this and to me, he failed in this series”

On Headlines with Jessica:

#1 Former Anaheim Angel Albert Pujols has signed on with the Los Angeles Dodgers for the rest of the season. Pujols who signed a MLB agreement with the Dodgers on Saturday could be joining the club as soon as Sunday as the Dodgers host the Miami Marlins at Dodgers Stadium.

#2 The circumstances around Pujols departure from the Angels is still suspect as nobody is really talking about how Pujols left but all agreed it was not a positive parting of the ways. USA Today reported on the day of his release that Pujols was confrontational with Angels manager Joe Maddon, team president John Caprino, and general manager Perry Minasian whom all denied there was any confrontation regarding Pujols complaining of a lack of playing time.

#3 In Rugby News the New York Times reported that South African Rugby player Lindani Myeni was shot and killed by Honolulu Police because they thought he was a burglary suspect. Myeni a black South African was reportedly trying to enter a unnamed woman’s home. The woman called 911 and said someone was trying to enter her home and police showed up. Myeni asked them “who are you?” after being told to lie on the ground and was shot four times and then police shouted “police.” Myeni’s wife who was in South Africa at the time said that Myeni might have mistaken the house for a Hare Krishna temple that next door to the house.

#4 Former Los Angeles Laker Kobe Bryant was inducted into the NBA Hall of Fame on Saturday during the induction speech Kobe’s wife Vanessa mentioned that Kobe had a turbulent relationship with his parents and later extended an olive branch towards them. Bryant’s parents were in attendance during the induction.

#5 At the Preakness Stakes on Saturday Rombauer outran Midnight Bourbon and Medina Spirit. Medina Spirit who lead wire to wire in the Kentucky Derby finished third as Rombauer put the hoof to the metal and won the last final yards. There will be no Triple Crown winning horse this year.

European Super League looks like a memory as fans, players, managers, governments, and sponsors alike were up in arms about the money grab (image from The Sports Chief)

On Headline Sports podcast with Jessica:

#1 Jessica, talk about the proposed European Super Soccer League an idea that was hatched but failed. It would have taken 12 of the richest teams in professional sports and made them an exclusive league. It was a venture hatched by American business billonaires who thought of the idea and they would make a lot of money out of it.

#2 The European fans who are pretty sophisticated politically once they caught win of the idea they proactively protest in the streets outside of their local stadiums, even surrounding team buses and hanging banners against the Super League idea.

#3 There are some players in Major League Baseball who just unstoppable and the New York Mets (9-8) pitcher Jacob deGrom is one of them on Friday night against the Washington Nationals (8-11) he struck out 15 hitters and improved his batting average to .545 helping his own cause with two hits and an RBI.

#4 The red hot Oakland A’s (14-8) cooled off with a loss to the Baltimore Orioles Sunday 8-1. Previously they were tearing up the American League and won two of the first three games against the Orioles. Their 13 game win streak came to end in Baltimore. The A’s have been getting great starting pitching and the bullpen has either held opponents to a minimum amount of runs or just shutting them out for wins.

#5 The New York Yankees (9-12) who are fourth in the American League East they have won three of their last four games after losing six straight games. During the six game losing streak they just were getting the key hitting which recently looks like they’ve turned that around.
