#1 After a long 162-game regular season, it all boils down to just one playoff game, the American League Wild Card game between the Tampa Bay Rays and the Oakland A’s on Wednesday night at the Oakland Coliseum.

#2 A’s pitcher Sean Manaea will get the call. He was out most of the season due to arm surgery, but when he returned, he pitched his first two games throwing shutout ball before being lifted. He’s now 4-0.

#3 After taking two tough loses earlier to the Kansas City Chiefs and later to the Minnesota Vikings, the Oakland Raiders faced the Indianapolis Colts and that one turned out to be a squeaker with the Raiders getting by with a seven-point win 31-24.

#4 The 49ers got a bye last Sunday for Week 4. Will having a bye be an advantage for San Francisco or will it be a disadvantage knowing they won’t get much rest between now and the end of the season?

#5 The San Jose Sharks open up their regular season against the Vegas Golden Knights on Wednesday night at T-Mobile Center. With a lot riding on some of the changes, how much pressure will there be on Erik Karlsson. the Sharks’ bonus player, going into the season?

Headline Sports podcast with Barbara Mason: Can Garoppolo, 49ers do it again with the offense this Sunday?; How concerned is Gruden about Raider defense?; plus more

#1 For the San Francisco 49ers, the offense gained 527 yards rushing and the defense stopped the Cincinnati Bengals ground game.

#2 The Raiders couldn’t hold Kansas City’s offense as they scored four touchdowns in the second quarter in the Raiders’ 28-10 loss to the Chiefs.

#3 The Oakland A’s Matt Chapman lets it rip. He belted a home run that help set an Oakland franchise record for 244 home runs surpassing the A’s 1996 all-time record for home runs in a season

#4 San Francisco commuters on the 8 City College Muni line were held hostage to horrible traffic conditions in what may be more congestion issues to come at the home of the Golden State Warriors. The Dave Matthews Band held a concert there last Tuesday, September 10th and Muni pulled most of it’s buses from the 8 City College lines, which forced commuters to find other alternative ways to get home. The move allowed concert goers and traffic to move the public smoothly in and out of Chase, but at the cost of making commuters trying to figure how to get home on another line, that pulled almost all of its service to facilitate concert goers to Chase.

#5 He may be the victim of collusion and never will throw a ball again in the NFL, but former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick is being recognized for his recent commercial with Nike, which just won an Emmy Award at the 2019 Creative Arts Emmy Awards. Kaepernick’s commercial addresses his activism and bringing up issues and achievements in promoting diversity and calling out racism and discrimination.

On the Headline Sports podcast with Barbara Mason:

#1 The Oakland A’s always have their plate full when they go to Houston for a four-game series, and this series is no different, the A’s need each one of these games to keep pace in the AL wild card.

#2 The San Francisco Giants just want to win their games for prides sake. They have battled one of the NL’s best the Los Angeles Dodgers and took two out of three from them in LA. For a team that is struggling and out of the wild card race, a great effort by the Giants.

#3 The Oakland Raiders played in Denver on Monday Night Football, but the overshadowing story is how they let their big fish wide receiver Antonio Brown go and who turned around and signed with New England but as karma would have it Brown was accused of rape by his trainer in Florida and is on suspension until the NFL concludes it’s investigation. Brown has stated that he will countersue his accuser for civil extortion.

On Headlines Sports with Barbara Mason:

#1 The San Francisco 49ers played preseason game two on Monday Night Football. Talk about how quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo looked. He had one snag in scrimmage last week when he threw into traffic and got picked five times in a row. Going forward Thursday until making the trip to Denver, he looked like he got back on track.

#2 The Oakland Raiders’ quarterbacking situation looks like it’s coming along just the way head coach Jon Gruden planned the Raiders as the Raiders are 2-0 in preseason are looking at starter Derek Carr with backups Nathan Peterman and Mike Glennon.

#3 The Oakland A’s dropped the fourth and final game of their series to the Houston Astros Sunday, but not before the A’s took three out of four from the visiting Astros. The A’s are now 1 game back in the AL Wild Card race and all their remaining games with Houston are huge not to mention with their other opponents.

#4 The San Francisco Giants almost got a four-game sweep in Arizona, but lost on Sunday when the Diamondbacks scored for three runs in the first inning early and got good pitching out of starter Merrill Kelly, who went 5.2 innings, six hits and one run.

#5 Talk has been about traffic conditions around the new Chase Arena in San Francisco and San Francisco emergency services ran a drill simulating traffic conditions during a concert or a Warriors game. Results weren’t good as ambulances and fire trucks couldn’t get through during an emergency if there was Warriors game traffic coming in or going out. Was building Chase especially next to UCSF Hospital a disaster in the waiting?
