The Green Bay Packers Rudy Ford (20) tries to hold back the Las Vegas Raiders Jakobi Meyers (16) Meyers was able to score in the first half at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas on Mon Oct 9, 2023 (AP News photo)

The Raiders Amik Robertson bid the Packers “good night” intercepting a Jordan Love pass in the end zone with 1:12 left in the game and breaking their three game losing streak. The final was 17-13 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.

The Packers took a 3-0 lead into the second quarter. Anders Carlson had made a first quarter 37 Yard field goal for the early lead.

The Raiders took the lead in the second quarter scoring twice. With four minutes left in the half Jakobi Meyers caught a nine yard pass from quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo taking a 7-3 lead. With a nice defensive effort, the Raiders got the ball back and were able to get to within field goal range with 2:32 left in the second quarter. Daniel Carlson made a 26 yard field goal giving Las Vegas a 10-3 lead after two quarters.

The Packers would tie up this game mid-way through the third quarter when A.J. Dillon rushed for five yards and the touchdown. It was a new ball game 10-10. At 5:16 Carlson kicked a 22 yards Field Goal taking back the lead for the Raiders 13-10.

The Raiders Josh Jacobs would rush for two yards and the touchdown to open the fourth quarter pushing their lead to 17-13. The Packers put together a nice drive in the final two minutes of this game. Green Bay Quarterback Jordan Love went for broke throwing into the end zone with 1:12 left in the game.

Raider CB Amik Robertson put the finishing touches in this game intercepting that pass and that was the ball game 17-13. Coming into this game the Raiders only had one pick all season and tonight they intercepted three times.

Jimmy Garoppolo had one interception but he also threw for 208 yards and a touchdown. RB Josh Jacobs rushed for 69 yards and Meyers had 75 receiving yards. WR Davante Adams was only targeted four times and finished with 45 yards.

Raiders post game notes: Monday night the Las Vegas Raiders (2-3) were on the national stage taking on the Green Bay Packers (2-3). Last week the Raiders are coming off a loss to the Los Angeles Chargers 24-17. The Chargers scored two touchdowns in the second quarter of that game which made all the difference in the Las Vegas loss.

The Packers also lost last weekend in their matchup with the Detroit Lions 34-20. The Raiders have lost three games in a row and want to get back on the winning track especially since they are playing at Allegiant Stadium. Raiders fans have not had much to cheer about and Las Vegas would change all that Monday night.

Next Sun Oct 15th the Raiders will take on the New England Patriots playing a second game at Allegiant looking to even their season record. Kickoff is scheduled for at 1:05 PM.

That’s Amaury News and Commentary podcast: A’s might sell source; A’s have deal with contractors to build Vegas park ; Kings Fox hopes to be in game 5 line up

Oakland A’s owner John Fisher could be considering selling the A’s according to a source, the A’s despite low attendance are making money this season and could sell to an owner who could keep the team in Oakland (file photo SF Gate)

On That’s Amaury podcast:

#1 Amaury, Oakland A’s owner John Fisher amongst all the negative publicity of moving the team to Las Vegas and having crowds of 3,000 to 6,000 fans on average per game is actually making money is considering selling the team according to news reports on KRON 4 and Scott Ostler at the San Francisco Chronicle.

#2 Ostler who did not name any of the groups who are interested in buying the A’s said that he heard from a source that is reliable that Fisher would consider selling the team as the cost and value of the team continues to increase. Golden State Warriors owner Joe Lacob expressed interest in buying the team and that’s a standing offer.

#3 On Monday MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred apologized to Oakland fans saying he’s really sorry for any hurt the A’s fans are feeling but it’s not Fisher’s fault. The city of Oakland couldn’t get a deal done in a timely fashion. In the same breath Manfred said that Vegas will present a real revenue enhancing opportunity.

#4 Turning to the NBA the Sacramento Kings De’Aaron Fox has fractured his finger on his shooting hand. Fox lead all scorers in game four during Sunday afternoon’s game against the Golden State Warriors with 38 points and has been a crucial player in the Kings line up. Fox injured the tip of his left index finger. It’s got to be an impact when you lose your leading scorer.

#5 With Fox the Kings have not ruled him out of the line up for game five on Wednesday and cold wear protective covering over his index finger. If Fox suffers more pain the next two highest scorers Domantas Sabonis and Keegan Murray will need to step up. Fox is one of the guys who got the Kings this far it’s been quite a ride for Sacramento but without Fox it’s a sure test for the Kings.

#6 The Green Bay Packers have dealt quarterback Aaron Rogers to the New York Jets. Rogers quarterbacked for the Green Bay Packers for 18 seasons and will wear No. 8 instead of No.12 which was formerly worn by Hall of Fame quarterback Joe Namith who gave his consent for Rogers to wear the number. Rogers declined and will wear the No.8 which he wore when he quarterback at Cal.

Lance starts and plays well in preseason debut as 49ers take down Packers 28-21

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Trey Lance (5) throws against the Green Bay Packers defense in the first pre season game at Levi Stadium in Santa Clara on Fri Aug 12, 2022 (AP News photo)

by Marko Ukalovic

SANTA CLARA, Calif. — It was the first installment of the Tre Lance show in Santa Clara.

Lance played well in two offensive series throwing for one touchdown as the San Francisco 49ers defeated the Green Bay Packers 28-21 in the first preseason game of 2022 on Friday evening at Levi’s Stadium.

The enthusiasm for Lance was expected from the 49ers faithful during the team’s first drive with Lance under center. The opening drive went nine plays, 27 yards that resulted in a 38-yard field goal by Robbie Gould. Lance was 2/3 for 11 yards as well as a seven yard scramble on the drive’s opening play.

“Solid,” said 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan on Lance’s play. “On the first play he made a good scramble. It was nice to come down on that third down play to Danny (Grey). So he did some good things, a good first game. Wished we could’ve kept him out there a little more, but (you) gotta get him out.”

Despite Jimmy Garoppolo still being on the roster, Shanahan has give the keys to Lance to lead his offense in 2022. Lance finished the game 4/5 for 92 yards and one touchdown.

“Trying to get bet better,” said Lance when asked what his goal was for the game. “Having the training camp mind set. Be efficient, take care of the ball and give those guys a chance. The offensive line played well. The young guys did a great job. It’s a lot more fun to win.”

On the flip side, the NFL’s reigning MVP, Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers did not play in the team’s first preseason game. Instead backup quarterback Jordan Love started and played all of the first half.

Love connected with wide receiver Romeo Doubs on a 33-yard touchdown reception down the right sideline to give the Packers 7-3 lead. The drive went eight plays, 80 yards in just 3:23.

Green Bay’s lead didn’t last long. On the first play of the second drive. Lance showed off his canon of an arm when he found Danny Grey wide open down the left sideline and Grey raced in for a 76-yard touchdown to put the Niners back on top 10-7.

Marcelino McCrary intercepted Love at the four-yard line and returned it 57 yards to the Packers 39-yard line. On the ensuing drive, backup quarterback Nate Sudfeld only needed one play to find Ray Ray McCloud on post route for a 39-yard touchdown. Sudfeld finished 8/11 for 103 yards and one touchdown as he vies for the backup QB job.

Love threw his second touchdown pass late in the second quarter with a 33-yard pass to Danny Davis to close out the first half at 20-14. It wasn’t a great overall game for Love as he finished 13/24 for 176 yards with two touchdowns and two badly thrown interceptions.

“It could’ve been a better night for everybody,” said Love. “The ball bounced a weird way. The 49ers capitalized on those plays. Obviously, no one wants that to happen and it sucks when it does.”

Sam Womack III had two interceptions to led the relentless 49ers secondary that has gone from the defense’s Achilles heal a season ago to one of its strengths.

“I think the defense as a whole works really well together,” said linebacker Fred Warner. “When the D-line is disrupting, sticking in the back end, that’s when you’re going to create big plays. We have really good players right now and we’re continuing to get better everyday.”

Each team traded touchdowns in the fourth quarter. Danny Etling, who replaced Love in the second half, threw a 22-yard touchdown to Amari Rodgers. Brock Purdy, who replaced Sudfeld in the fourth quarter, found Tanner Hudson from five yards out with 7:58 remaining.

Tyrion Davis-Price, a third round draft selection this year, led the 49ers in rushing with 10 rushes for 36 yards. Tyler Goodson led the Packers with 12 rushes for 37 yards. Purdy was 3/6 for 36 yards and one touchdown.

Grey led San Francisco in receiving with two catches for 99 yards. BJ Baylor had two catches for 75 yards to pace Green Bay.

San Francisco 49ers kicker Robbie Gould celebrates after booting the game winning field goal with no time left on the clock to help defeat the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field in Green Bay in the NFC Divisional round to advance to the NFC Championship (AP News photo)

#2 The 49ers with no time left on the clock looked to their place kicker Robbie Gould to hit a 45 yard field goal that won it for the 49ers to advance them to play Los Angeles in the NFC Championship this Sunday.

#3 Bruce the MLB Players Association will attempt to make a counter offer on Monday. The league already has asked the union to drop three proposals, earlier free agency for players, salary arbitration after two years instead of three and changes to the revenue-sharing plan.

Gould’s last second field goal punches the 49ers into the NFC Championship game with 13-10 win over Packers

San Francisco 49ers kicker Robbie Gould (9) kicks the game winning field goal with no time left in the fourth quarter to help defeat the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field in Green Bay on Sat Jan 22, 2022 at the NFC Divisional round (AP News photo)

by Marko Ukalovic

There’s a reason why special teams are called special.

In a game where the San Francisco 49ers offense was as cold as the temperature on the field, it was the special teams that came through as Robbie Gould’s 45-yard field goal as time expired sent his team to the NFC Championship game in a 13-10 victory over the Green Bay Packers in the NFC Divisional Playoff game on Saturday evening at Lambeau Field.

“My ultimate goal is to be a Hall-of-Famer and to win a Super Bowl,” said Gould after the game.

Both defenses play exceptionally well but it was the 49ers special teams that was difference in the game as they were responsible for all 13 points.

With the 49ers trailing 10-3 with under five minutes left in the fourth quarter, Jordan Willis blocked Corey Bojorquez’s punt inside the Packers 10-yard line. Talanoa Hufanga picked up the ball at six-yard line and run it in for a game tying touchdown.

San Francisco’s defense forced a three and out and gave the offense one more chance with 3:20 remaining in the game.

Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo, who didn’t get help from his offensive line or his receivers during the first half of the game as well as made a couple of poor decisions during the game, led the Niners on a nine play, 44-yard drive to set up Gould’s heroics. The key play on the drive was Deebo Samuel’s nine-yard run on a 3rd and 7 to give San Francisco a first down on the Packers 29-yard line.

Green Bay drew first blood on its opening drive. Quarterback Aaron Rodgers led a methodical drive as he connected with his favorite target wide receiver Davante Adams three times for 35 yards on a 10 play 69-yard drive that was capped off with an AJ Dillion six-yard rushing touchdown.

Despite being set up with good position on its first drive thanks to JaMycal Hasty’s 30-yard kickoff return that set up San Francisco at the Packers 40-yard line, the 49ers went three and out as Garoppolo was sacked on third and 12.

The Packers second possession ended when Fred Warner punched the ball out of the hands of Marcedes Lewis and Dre Greenlaw recovered the ball at the Niners 42-yard line. However, the Niners went three and out after the Packers second sack of Garoppolo.

The Niners offense didn’t fare any better on the next two possessions as dropped balls and a lack of a rushing attack forced San Francisco’s offense into three straight three and outs at the end of the opening 15 minutes with a total of minus seven yards.

San Francisco finally got the offense going near the end of the first half. They were moving the ball with a balanced attack, but the drive ended when Garoppolo threw an interception to Adrian Amos.

It looked like Green Bay was going to take advantage on the ensuing possession as Rodgers found Aaron Jones for a 75-yard reception down to the 49ers 14-yard line. But Mason Crosby’s 39-yard field goal attempt was blocked by Jimmy Ward as time expired as the 49ers special teams made the first of its three big plays of the game.

The 49ers opening drive of the second half was all about Samuel. He returned the kickoff 45 yards to midfield. The hybrid wide receiver-running back also had two receptions of 18 and 12 yards. However, a personal foul penalty of Elijah Mitchell and an illegal formation penalty took the Niners out of a goal line situation. They settled for a 29-yard field goal by Robbie Gould.

Green Bay extended its lead to seven points early in the fourth quarter with a long, time-consuming drive that went 14 plays, 57 yards eating up nine minutes off the clock that resulted in a 33-yard field goal by Crosby. Rodgers was six for six for 44 yards on the drive as the Packers took a page out of the Niners playbook running the ball through the Niners defense.

San Francisco had a chance to tie the game earlier in the fourth quarter, but they weren’t able to convert a 4th and 1 from the Packers 19-yard line. Rashawn Gary blew up a run up the middle by Mitchel as the 49ers turned it over on downs with 6:14 remaining.

Rodgers, who might have played his last game in Green Bay, finished 20 of 29 for 225 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions and a QB rating of 91.9. Devante Adams, who also could have played his game as a Packer, had nine catches for 90 yards. Jones had just 41 yards on the ground in 12 carries but had 129 receiving yards on nine catches.

“I’m gonna take some time and have conversations with the folks around here, and then take some time away and make a decision, obviously before free agency,” Rodgers said.

Garopollo finished 11 of 19 for 131 yards with no touchdowns and one interception and a QB rating of just 57.1. Tight end George Kittle led San Francisco in receiving with four catches for 63 yards. Samuel finished with 83 total yards (39 rushing and 44 receiving). Mitchell had a quiet game with 53 yards on 17 carries.

“Jimmy G (Garopollo), you can’t say enough about that guy. The sh*t he takes,” Kittle said.

The 49ers defense sacked Rodgers five times and forced five three and outs as the unsung hero of the game.

“After we won, I didn’t want to leave the field,” said 49ers defensive tackle Arik Armstead. “I just don’t want to go home…We keep making plays.”

GAME NOTES: San Francisco finished 4-for-11 on third down conversions. Green Bay was 5-for-12.

San Francisco running back Jeff Wilson Jr. suffered an ankle injury in the first quarter and did not return to the game.

Dillion suffered a chest injury in the third quarter. He did not return to the game.

Rodgers, who is 0-4 against San Francisco in four playoff games, had his second career playoff game with no touchdowns.
