Draymond Green addresses the media on Sat Oct 8, 2022 at the Chase Center in San Francisco. Green made a his first appearance at a team practice Thu Oct 13, 2022 and will be in the line up against the Denver Nuggets Fri Oct 14, 2022 for a pre season game (AP News photo)

On the Warrior podcast with Jerry:

#1 Golden State Warrior Draymond Green appeared in today’s practice his first appearance since he punched teammate Jordan Poole. Green had not been suspended and this was just a cooling off period and he is expected to be in the line up on Friday night against the Denver Nuggets.

#2 Jerry, was this a matter of Green getting a slap on the wrist and getting off lightly or is this a matter of Green coming back business as usual and things have pretty much calmed down.

#3 Warrior head coach said that this is the biggest crisis he’s had since he’s been coaching the team and he emphasized the team was not perfect.

#4 Green agreed to spend some time away from the club and Green and the Warriors agreed that one week was good enough. If Green was suspended he would have possibly not returned and if he voiced his disapproval on his podcasts the Warriors may not have wanted him back.

#5 The Warriors host the Denver Nuggets Friday night at Chase Center can the Warriors focus and will they be better for it with Green’s return or will they’ll be a certain amount of dissension between Green and his teammates over what happened?

That’s Amaury News and Commentary: Drama in Warriors’ World

Drama in Warriors’ World

That’s Amaury News and Commentary

By Amaury Pi-González

All the Warriors have done recently is win four NBA titles in the last seven years. The reigning champions open their 2022-23 season at home next Tuesday October 18 against the LA Lakers. Draymond Green is slated to return this Thursday for practice and will be eligible to play this Friday against the Denver Nuggets.

Green had been away since last Wed Oct 5th after violently punching teammate Jordan Pool in the face. When Green said he will take a few days off, Coach Steve Kerr called it a “mutual decision”.

The star forward publicly apologized Saturday and said he is taking a few days away to allow the team to ‘heal’ from the incident. It seems we as a culture has become much more up-tight and we are easily offended.

My brain reminded it that back in the day (1997) when the Warriors had Spanish radio and I was doing their play by play, during a practice session in Oakland, Latrell Sprewell snapped after coach P.J Carlesimo said something like “c’mon Spre put some mustard on that pass” Sprewell attacked Carlisimo choking the coach and threatened to kill him.

It was during a practice! But we all have the potential to snap; after all we are all human. In 1997-98 season the Warriors were one of six NBA teams broadcasting all their games in Spanish, the others were Miami, LA Lakers, Houston, San Antonio and Chicago. Right after that incident I received a few requests (calls from media) not only in the Bay Area, but outside across the country, they wanted to know what happened between Sprewell and Carlisimo.

I’ve got a couple of calls from people that were not sports reporters, but regular gossip stuff, (like TMZ these days). I once read that we all have a “rage circuit” inside our brains and at any time the circuit can have a short and prompt us to act violently and sometimes in a very stupid way.

Draymond Green is an amazing player. He always seems to see the whole court as good as anybody. He has an impressive high basketball IQ. When he first came into the NBA many said he was not athletic enough to be a small forward and too small (undersized) in the paint as a power forward. Many believe he didn’t fit into any position.

The were all wrong. Veteran guard Klay Thompson said last season about his teammate. “If you can’t be yelled at by Draymond, you can’t play on the Warriors. Its kind’ve like a bylaw now.”

Warriors, without starters, rout Portland TrailBlazers 131-98

The Golden State Warriors come out the victors in Tue Oct 11, 2022 pre season game at Chase Center against the Portland Trailblazers (photo by @warriors)

By Jerry Feitelberg

The Warriors played their next-to-last pre-season game Tuesday night against the visiting Portland Trailblazers. The Warriors did not use any of their starters in the game. Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, Andrew Wiggins, Kevon Looney, Jordan Poole, and Andre Iguodala did not dress for the game.

They were on the bench cheering for the guys on the floor. Draymond Green was not in the house. Green is taking some personal time away from the club. Green will return to Thursday’s practice and will be in the line up Friday against the Denver Nuggets for the final pre season game at Chase Center. The Blazers did not play Damion Lillard or Gary Payton II.

The Warriors have seven players that will be seeing most of the playing time this season. The Warriors will have Wiseman in the second unit as a backup to Looney. Jordan Poole will be the leader of the second unit.

Golden State lost several key players and looking for their replacements. The Warriors hope that Jonathan Kuminga, Moses Moody, and JaMychal Green will replace Otto Porter Jr, Namenda Bjelica, and Damian Lee in the rotation. Kuninga, Moody, and Green played well Tuesday night as the W’s routed the Blazers 131-98.

Kuminga had ten points, three rebounds, and one assist in 24 minutes of action. Moody knocked down 20 points in 23 minutes of playing time. Mychal Green also had 20. Green pulled down eight rebounds and made four threes in five tries.

He had 20 minutes on the court. Wiseman had 18 points and seven rebounds. The Warriors’ Donte DiVencenzo started the game at the guard position. DiVincenzo scored two points but had four rebounds and six assists.

The Warriors appear to have 11 slots on the roster occupied. The coaching staff will have to make decisions on the four remaining spots. Several players made their case to be included on the roster. Patrick Baldwin, Jr., all six feet nine inches of him, scored six points and had three boards.

Anthony Lamb knocked down eight points in 16 minutes. Ryan Rollins had 12, and Pat Spencer finished with 11 points, five rebounds, and three assists. Ty Jerome had six points, and Lester Quinones had seven, all in the fourth quarter.

The Blazers had at least three projected starters in the lineup Tuesday night. They had Jerami Grant, Jusuf Nokic, Josh Hart, and Anfernee Simons start the game. Nokic, as usual, was a force in the middle. James Wiseman did a good job holding his own against the big man.

Nokic did score 16. Wiseman, who missed all of last season, appeared to be stronger. His play around the net has improved. His footwork is much better, and he appears ready to elevate his game this year. The scoring leader for Portland was Shaedon Sharp with 17. Grant had nine, Simons 12, Hart three, and Jared Rhoden ten.

As for the game, the Warriors led 35-34 after the first quarter. The Warriors increased the lead to 12 to finish the first half leading 68-56. Golden State blew the game open in the third quarter. They held Portland to 13 points and ended the quarter with an imposing 103-69 advantage. Portland tried to make a comeback in the fourth period, but nothing they did worked. The Warriors win 131-98.

The Warriors play their final pre-season game Friday night at the Chase Center. Their opponent will be the Denver Nuggets. The game will start at 7 pm.

Golden State Warriors podcast with Barbara Mason: How cooling off period is working for Warriors and Green

The Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry (30) drives the basketball against the Los Angeles Lakers forward Anthony Davis (3) in first half action at Chase Center on Sun Oct 9, 2022 (@ Lakers photo)

On the Warriors podcast with Barbara:

#1 Barbara, Draymond Green was the top topic last night as the Warriors hosted the Los Angeles Lakers Green has stayed away from the team did not play last night has that decision to stay away has started the process for a cooling off period.

#2 Regardless that Green had stayed away since the Wednesday blow up in practice with Jordan Poole is this a matter of general manager Bob Meyers and head coach Steve Kerr to step back and see how Green can return or what is their objective managing a situation like this before bringing Green back.

#3 It’s like Michael Wilbon said on ESPN that the Warriors a are a good team regarding putting out the brushfires and even the big ones. Green has been down this road of being vocal or being physical. He told former teammate Kevin Durant to either sign a contract or get off the team which KD in the later. He kicked LeBron James during a Finals game and got suspended for it. Green is about to be 34 years old and in the last year of his contract at Golden State will they let that contract expire and he could go somewhere else next season?

#4 It’s pre season the Warriors lost their first pre season game this time to the Los Angeles Lakers who were winless coming to Golden State and hungry for a win they got scoring help last night from Anthony Davis 28 pts, Kendrick Nunn 21 pts, and Matt Ryan 20 pts. These games are a chance for the Lakers and Warriors to see who they got coming off the bench and whose going to make the team.

#5 Barbara, It’s Damian Lillard and the Portland Trailblazers on Tuesday night at Chase the Warriors will take a look at some of their younger players. For the last ten seasons Lillard has been the callous of the Blazers offense how crucial do you see him being for the Blazers going into this season?

Hoops Prevail, Drama Subsides: Lakers top Warriors 124-121 in exhibition shootout

By Morris Phillips

SAN FRANCISCO–Anthony Davis owned the first half, Jordan Poole claimed the third quarter, and little known Matt Ryan, with a grand total of five minutes of NBA experience, took it from there.

Tally it up, and the Lakers escaped Chase Center with a 124-121 exhibition win that entertained the fans, but left coach Steve Kerr needing to see much more ahead of the season opener on October 18.

“We’re turning the ball over way too much, and defensively we haven’t been great,” Kerr conceded.

Along with the 30 made threes, 17 of those astonishingly from the Lakers, the numerous healthy scratches signaled exhibition as opposed to the heightened, intensity of the regular season. LeBron James, Russell Westbrook, Patrick Beverly and Dennis Schroeder did not dress for the Lakers. The Warriors played without Draymond Green, Klay Thompson and Andre Iguodala.

Green remains away from the team indefinitely due to the scuffle with Jordan Poole on Wednesday. There’s no indication that Green will be suspended by the Warriors and it’s likely he’ll be available for the season opener a week from Tuesday although that’s yet to be determined.

Little was said of Green on Sunday night, but Poole had a lot to say with the growth in his game, and the 18-point, third quarter explosion that gave the Warriors a 91-89 lead heading to the fourth.

Poole thrilled the crowd with his drive that started with an inside-out dribble move, finished with an around the back flourish and a flip shot for a bucket in the lane.

“We were debating on the bench if that was a travel, but they didn’t call it,” Kevon Looney joked.

Poole led the Warriors with 25 points, including three made threes and never appeared bothered by Wednesday’s incident or the speculation that he will sign a lucrative contract extension in the upcoming week.

Surprising, given all the uproar, and opinions regarding the incident? Not to Kerr and Poole’s teammates who know his focus and determination.

“He doesn’t really let stuff phase him,” Looney said. “If things (aren’t) going his way, he just puts his head down and keeps working.”

“There’s a reason Jordan is where he is right now, especially when you consider where he was coming out of Michigan as a late first-round pick struggling his first few months in the league,” Kerr said. “There’s a reason he’s in this position about to sign a big extension hopefully. Guy’s tough.”

Stephen Curry added 24 points, four assists in 24 minutes, two more minutes than Kerr insisted his star would play. Andrew Wiggins had 15 points, and James Wiseman put up 13 off the bench.

Davis returned to action after missing the two, previous Lakers’ exhibitions and looked like 2020/bubble AD with 28 points, 24 of those in the first half. The eight-time All-Star impressed with a dunk of a lob, and two made threes. Last season, Davis played in just 40 games and shot a career-worst 18 percent from distance.

Matt Ryan had his, singular NBA moment with 20 points–in 20 minutes–and six 3-pointers, the final one with 2:44 remaining that put the Lakers up 118-114. Ryan also cooly converted a pair of free throws with five seconds left that gave the Lakers their final margin of victory.

The 25-year old Ryan’s previous NBA experience? Five minutes as a Boston Celtic in their season finale in April. He scored three points.

“It’s good because you never know what can happen in a regular season game,” Davis said. “You might need Matt (Ryan) or you might need Scotty (Pippen Jr.), or Max (Christie). You just never know. And for them to get those type of reps in that type of situation, especially on the road, is good.”

The Lakers won for the first time in pre-season after three losses. The Warriors, who host Portland on Tuesday, lost for the first time after winning twice in Japan.

Golden State Warriors podcast with Jerry Feitelberg: Green punches teammate during practice drills; Thompson has mental block in practice

Golden State Warriors Draymond Green slugged teammate Jordan Poole during practice Wed Oct 5, 2022 practice. Green will be suspended by the team that could overlap into the regular season. Poole reportedly had been edgey about getting a contract extension from the team (photo from Clutch Points)

On the Warrior podcast with Jerry F:

#1 Jerry, Golden State Warriors Draymond Green known for occasionally loosing patience and being vocal threw a punch in practice at teammate Jordan Poole during practice on Wednesday. Green is subject to suspension that could overlap from the pre season to the beginning of the regular season.

#2 Jerry Green is noted for getting angry at times after this recent incident some question maybe the Warriors have kept Green too long on the team because of his outbursts and at times having anger issues his most famous when he went after former Warrior Kevin Durant during a bench argument telling him to sign a contract and commit to the team on live television that he should have been let go by the team at that time?

#3 How much of a distraction going into the regular season will this fight impact the Warriors with Green suspended to start the season?

#4 Klay Thompson had what was reported as a mental block regarding his past achilles tendon injury during practice. Warrior head coach Steve Kerr sounding very concerned in talking with the media about Thompson after practice Wednesday hopes that this is something that Thompson can overcome.

#5 Jerry, LeBron and the Los Angeles Lakers are in Sunday against the Golden State Warriors. Jerry wanted to ask you about all the hoopla around Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and LeBron. Kareem said that LeBron taking the side of vaccine hesitancy was putting lives and livelihoods at risk. LeBron responded by saying in terms of his relationship with Kareem, “No thoughts and no relationship.”

Warriors Bid Sayonara To Tokyo Winning Game Two 104-95

By Barbara Mason

The Golden State Warriors (2-0) took on the Washington Wizards (0-2) in the second game of their two game series amidst a sell-out enthusiastic crowd. As in game one the applause for the Golden State Warrior lineup was thunderous.

Draymond Green addressed the crowd before the game. “On behalf of myself, my team mates our coaching staff we just to thank you all for an incredible experience,” he said. “Being in Tokyo for these last five days has been absolutely amazing. I look forward to living here one day. Thank ya’ll, we love y’all.” News flash??? but that is what the man said.

This game was a close one going into halftime. The Wizards held a slim lead 56-54. Washington won the third quarter 29-20 to extend their lead 85-74. The fourth quarter was all Warriors stuffing the Wizards 30-10. The final was 104-95 in favor of Golden State.

After a quiet game one Golden State guard Stephen Curry finished this game with 17 points and five rebounds. Warriors Moses Moody and Patrick Baldwin Jr. both scored twelve points off the bench.

The Wizards had four starters in double digits; Kristaps Porzingis finished with 18 points, Will Barton with 12, and Rui Hachimura and Monte Morris both with 11.

There are a multitude of things to clean up for both teams and that’s why we have a pre-season. After 17 turnovers in game one for Golden State that will surely be one of them.

So back to the states for the Warriors gearing up for a game with the Los Angeles Lakers on October 9 at Chase. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 PM.

Warriors Kickoff Pre-Season In Tokyo Beating Wizards 96-87

By Barbara Mason

The NBA preseason got underway a world away last night in Japan. The World Champion Warriors took on the Washington Wizards in a two game series.

Friday night a sellout crowd in Tokyo got to see not only the defending champion Golden State Warriors but they also got to see Japan native Rui Hachimura who is a starter for the Wizards. He understandably got a huge round of applause from the crowd when introduce along with the Wizard starters.

It has been awhile. In fact, the last time a preseason series was played was back in 2019, that game a contest between the Houston Rockets and the Toronto Raptors.

Fans got to enjoy the play of not only the starters but the bench as well. None of the Warriors played more than 20 minutes in this game and going into the third quarter both teams were digging deep into their benches.

The Warrior’s James Wiseman, after missing all of last season, played 24 minutes and had the high score with 20 points, He hit on eight of 11 shots and had nine rebounds on his return. It could not have gone better for Wiseman after so much missed time. The high score for the Wizards was Hachimura with 13 points and nine rebounds. Wiseman and Hachimura were the only players to finish in double digits.

It’s early and it’s the preseason and so there were the expected early turnovers and erratic passes. Both teams shot under 33% in the first half and by game’s end they finished under 37%. Despite the less than stellar shooting, the crowd enjoyed a game that they will remember for a long long time. They got to see some of the world’s greatest players and they showed their appreciation with thunderous applause throughout the game.

Klay Thompson did not play in this game and Jordan Poole started in his place. The team continues to be cautious with Thompson since his return last January after suffering a torn ACL and a ruptured Achilles which sidelined him 2 1/2 season. He will not play in this series.

The second game of this series will be played on Saturday with tipoff at 10:00 PM on NBA TV.

#1 At the WNBA All Star Game in Chicago on Sunday there was a void with Phoenix Mercury superstar Brittney Griner missing. The players dedicated the second half wearing #42 jerseys in honor of Griner who has detained in Russia for the last 145 days. Tony the second half dedication meant a lot to the players remembering Griner.

#2 The Oakland A’s named their lone player representative for the 2022 MLB All Star Game for July 19th at Dodgers Stadium in Los Angeles pitcher Paul Blackburn who started out with a flurry at 6-2 and currently is 6-4 with a 3.36 ERA. Blackburn said he’s looking forward to meeting with his American League teammates and also being able to talk with the Los Angeles Angels Shohei Ohtani.

#3 The San Francisco Giants who are coming off a 2-2 split against the San Diego Padres and opened a three game series last night with the Arizona Diamondbacks with a 4-3 loss. The Giants were 6-14 in their last 20 games and after winning 107 games last season are a different team without the presence of former catcher Buster Posey.

#4 Golden State Warriors center James Wiseman was working on his game in the NBA Summer Leagues in Las Vegas. Wiseman who played only 39 games in the last 15 months. When Wiseman first came on the scene for the Warriors he was expected to be an anchor at the center position for him but he had troubles adjusting to the NBA and also his recovery from knee surgery was slow but is looking forward to working hard to get back with the club for the 2022-23 season.

#5 The Pittsburgh Steelers have renamed their Stadium from Heinz Field to Acrisure Stadium. Acrisure is a top ten global insurance broker with revenue exceeding $3.8 billion. Heinz Kraft Company said in a statement that after concluding a 20 year $57 million naming rights agreement that ran from 2001-2021. Acrisure out bided Heinz for the naming rights.
