#1 Philadelphia Phillies ghost runner Brandon Marsh scored the winning run on catcher’s interference in the bottom of the tenth inning with the bases loaded in a Phillies walk off win over the Boston Red Sox. In the tenth the Phils Edmundo Sosa checked his swing on Red Sox pitch from Jordan Hicks that was a ball but Sosa’s bat caught Sox catcher Carlos Narvaez. The Phillies asked for a review which showed the interference that allowed Marsh to score from third.

#2 The Arizona Diamondbacks Eugenio Suarez belted his fifth home run in his last three games, hitting a solo shot against the Houston Astros on Monday night. Suarez 34 years old hit his 35th home run and taking on the opposition when he gets the opportunity.

#3  Los Angeles Dodgers Freddie Freeman took an 88 MHP sinker off his left wrist Sunday. Freeman’s X-rays came back negative. The swelling on the wrist subsided. On Monday Freeman was back in the lineup and was back in the batting cage taking batting practice.

#4 Sacramento A’s centerfielder Denzel Clarke will be placed on the injured list after suffering from an adductor strain. A’s manager Mark Kotsay said that a roster move will be made on Tuesday. Kotsay said the A’s weren’t able to get a replacement to Texas in time for the game on Monday night. Clarke left the game on Sunday night with hip discomfort. Clarke hit .230 through 47 games.

#5 The A’s are shopping pitcher Luis Severino, Jefferey Springs, and JP Sears. Springs will be owed $10.5 million in 2026 and has a $15 million option for 2027. Severino has expressed that he was not happy pitching at Sutter Health Field in Sacramento because the dirt on the mound was too hard and the dugout didn’t go the clubhouse but you had to go through the outfield to get to the clubhouse. Sears does give up the long ball but clubs could use him as he is durable.

#1 New York Yankees mega star Aaron Judge despite going 1-5 on Sunday Judge is hitting an amazing .423 and has a 14 game hitting streak and is hitting .474 with ten extra bases hits during the streak and and has got on base for 30 games.

#2 The 20 year old fan who fell from a 21 foot wall above the warning track at PNC onto the warning track during a Chicago Cubs-Pittsburgh Pirates game last week on Monday. Kavan Markwood has “a long way to go” to recovery. Markwood had slipped off the railing and landed on the warning track. Markwood took his first steps on Monday. Jennifer Phillips an organizer has established a GoFundMe page for Markwood saying that it will be a “a slow, slow process, but seeing him up and moving was a huge win and definitely lifted everyone’s spirits.”

#3 New York Yankee pitcher Gerrit Cole is focused on getting his brace removed off his right elbow two weeks ago after having reconstruction surgery last month. The next step of Cole is to start throwing again a goal to return for the 2026 season.

#4  Cincinnati Reds rookie leftfielder Tyler Callihan made a sliding attempt against the Atlanta Braves trying to get to a ball that turned into an inside the park home run on Monday night as the Reds were shutout by the Reds 4-0. In the bottom of third the Braves Matt Olson hit a fly that Callihan tried track down but ended up crashing into the padded wall in foul ground up the left field line. Callihan hit the wall jarring the ball out of his glove and fell on his back in pain grabbing his left arm. Callihan ended up with a broken left arm.

#5 Los Angeles Dodgers Shohei Ohtani and Freddie Freeman both homered and got to Miami Marlins pitcher Sandy Alcantara once again in a 7-4 win over the Marlins on Monday night. The Dodgers got two hits from Mookie Betts and Teoscar Hernandez and the Dodgers have now won eight of their last nine game on the ten game road trip.

#1  Atlanta Braves pitcher Spencer Strider made his first appearance in a year to throw 2 2/3 innings of perfect ball against the Boston Red Sox. Strider struck out six of the eight batters he faced. Strider was pleased to return to the mound after being out,  “It was like a little reward sprinkled on the pathway, a good test for the work you’ve been doing.” Strider had Tommy John surgery last season.

#2  Royce Lewis of the Minnesota Twins will miss opening day due to a left hamstring strain injury the Twins announced on Monday. Lewis is the Twins third baseman and the Twins do not know when he will be back. Lewis will have to go on the IL and go through a recovery rehab period.

#3 Jace Jung was demoted from the Detroit Tigers to Triple A Toledo. Jung was trying to earn a spot on the roster at third base for opening day. The Tigers also optioned pitcher Sean Guenther to Toledo and the Tigers now have 39 players on the roster in the Grapefruit League camp in Lakeland Florida. Jung was under consideration to take free agent who went to the Boston Red Sox Alex Bregman’s spot on the roster. Jung was 4 for 33 with a .121 batting average with one home run and two doubles.

#4 There is no doubt that the Los Angeles Dodgers are loaded and are one of the most World Series ready teams in MLB. With an All Star cast, Shohei Ohtani, Mookie Betts, Freddie Freeman, Clayton Kershaw, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Teoscar Hernandez, Will Smith, Tyler Glasnow, Roki Sasaki, and Blake Snell just to name a few teams who face the Dodgers are going to have fits.

#5 Amaury, how important is it that the A’s have a grand opening success in Sacramento and a proper introduction to the Sacramento fans in the home opener on Mon Mar 31st at Sutter Health Park in Sacramento?

#1 In a ESPN interview with Los Angeles Angels manager Ron Washington who was asked what rule changes he would like to see he said, to give pitchers all the time they need to make pitches, and get rid of the throwing to first base only three times limit. Washington said experienced pitchers can handle the pitch clock whereas it affects the younger pitchers.

#2 Amaury, talk about how the Athletics are building up their pitching staff first with acquiring Luis Severino and now getting Jefferey Springs from the Tampa Bay Rays. Springs in 2024 made seven starts was 2-2 ERA 3.27. How do you see him shoring up the starting rotation for Sacramento?

#3 The New York Yankees acquired pitcher Devin Williams from the Milwaukee Brewers. Williams a closer had an impressive ERA last season at 1.83 in 97 relief appearances. The Brewers in exchange got LHP Nestor Cortes and rookie prospect Caleb Durbin with cash considerations.

#4 Amaury, talk about the deal that sent outfielder Kyle Tucker from the Houston Astros to the Chicago Cubs in exchange for Isaac Paredes a first baseman, pitcher Hayden Weneski, and prospect Cam Smith. Tucker who suffered a shin injury played in 78 games for the Astros.

#5 Los Angeles Dodgers first baseman Freddie Freeman’s World Series walk off grand slam ball sold for $1.56 million including the buyers premium at SCP Auctions on Saturday night. Freeman hit the grand slam during game 1. The ball is the third most expensive ball bided it on behind Shohei Ohtani’s $4.392 million ball that he hit for his 50/50 home run, and Mark McGwire’s 70th home run ball he hit in 1999 worth $3 million.

Giants shutout by Dodgers 7-0

The San Francisco Giants played their third game with the rival Los Angeles Dodgers on Saturday night. The Giants were shutout by the Dodgers 7-0 at Dodger Stadium. San Francisco fell to 77-78, while Los Angeles improved to 95-59.

The Giants’ starting lineup featured Austin Slater, Thairo Estrada, J.D. Davis, Wilmer Flores, Mitch Haniger, Marco Luciano, Luis Matos, Tyler Fitzgerald, Patrick Bailey, and John Brebbia. Brebbia (3-2, 3.53 ERA) took the loss after pitching just 1 1/3 innings and giving up one hit, one earned run, one walk, one strikeout, and one home run.

After a scoreless first inning, Los Angeles got on the board in the bottom of the second inning. J.D. Martinez homered on a fly ball to center field for a 1-0 lead.

The Dodgers tacked on two runs in the bottom of the third inning. J.D. Martinez doubled on a line drive to Luis Matos. Mookie Betts and Max Muncy scored to make it a 3-0 game.

The Dodgers added two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Freddie Freeman doubled on a line drive to Luis Matos. Austin Barnes scored to extend the Dodgers’ lead to 4-0 as Mookie Betts went to third base. Max Muncy then singled on a fly ball to Tyler Fitzgerald. Betts scored to expand the Dodgers’ lead to 5-0 as Freeman went to third base.

The Dodgers got two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning. Mookie Betts doubled on a line drive to Mike Yastrzemski. David Peralta and Austin Barnes scored to widen the Dodgers’ lead to 7-0.

The Giants recalled Heliot Ramos from Triple-A Sacramento after placing Scott Alexander on the 15-day injured list with a left hamstring strain — retroactive to September 22.

As part of Hispanic Heritage Month, we remember on this day in 1956, Ozzie Virgil Sr. made his MLB debut as the league’s first player from the Dominican Republic. Virgil Sr. played in the MLB from 1956 to 1969 as a utilityman. Three of Virgil Sr.’s stints were with the New York/San Francisco Giants (1956-57, 1966, and 1969).

MLB All-Star Game: National League wins 3-2 for first time in 11 years

The wait was finally over as the 2023 MLB All-Star Game was underway at T-Mobile Park on Tuesday.
The National League defeated the American League 3-2 for the first time since 2012. Elías Díaz delivered the game-winning home run in the eighth inning. Díaz earned the All-Star Game MVP.

The NL’s starting lineup featured Ronald Acuña Jr., Freddie Freeman, Mookie Betts, J.D. Martinez, Nolan Arenado, Luis Arráez, Sean Murphy, Corbin Carroll, and Orlando Arcia.

The AL’s starting lineup featured Marcus Semien, Shohei Ohtani, Randy Arozarena, Corey Seager, Yandy Díaz, Adolis García, Austin Hays, Josh Jung, and Jonah Heim.

After a scoreless first inning, Yandy Díaz hit a solo home run to give the AL a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning.

J.D. Martinez helped the NL tie the game 1-1 in the top of the fourth inning. Martinez scored on a Luis Arráez RBI single.

The AL regained their lead in the bottom of the sixth inning. Salvador Pérez singled for a 2-1 lead. Pérez now has three All-Star Game hits — the second-most by a Kansas City Royals player.

Lourdes Gurriel Jr. hit a game-tying home run, and the NL tied the game 2-2 in the top of the seventh inning. However, Gurriel Jr.’s home run was overturned and called foul. The score remained 2-1 AL.

Elías Díaz hit a two-run shot to give the NL a 3-2 lead in the top of the eighth inning. Díaz’s two-run home run sealed the NL’s win over the AL.

#1 Amaury, the recent jersey and shoulder pad throwing by former Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Antonio Brown last Sunday was because he didn’t want to go back in the game and said his ankle was bothering him. Brown said coaches insisted he play but Brown said his ankle was bothering him but Brown doing jumping jacks before running off the field.

#2 San Francisco 49ers back up quarterback Trey Lance had himself an afternoon while filling in for the injured Jimmy Garoppolo. Lance threw for 16-23 for 249 yards and two touchdowns, and one interception for a convincing 23-7 win over the Houston Texans.

#3 The Golden State Warriors winners of four of their last five games. They got a win over the Utah Jazz 123-116 on Saturday. Stephen Curry led with 28 points the Warriors keep pushing along. Curry scored only nine points against the Miami Heat on Tuesday a season low. Klay Thompson is expected back in the line up very soon according to head coach Steve Kerr.

#4 Amaury, the New York Yankees are considering bringing in Oakland A’s veteran third baseman Matt Chapman. That move is very possible as Chapman will be seeking a multi year deal and a significant raise and playing on the biggest stage in baseball will provide that kind of money.

#5 Several free MLB agents are seeking to sign on new ball clubs, the Braves Freddie Freeman says that he’s interested working things out and returning to the Braves, former Giant Kris Bryant has had interest from the Mets, Padres, or Angels, Trevor Story is looking for ball club to sign with and could fetch for around $100 million.

#6 Ken Rosenthal legendary writer and TV analyst for Fox Sports and the Athletic and formerly with MLB Network did not get his contract renewed by MLB Network which Rosenthal said was due to articles that were critical of MLB and MLB commissioner Rob Manfred regarding MLB how the 2020 season was handled and some of the changes in baseball. One thing for sure members of the media and the members of the BBWAA will have Rosenthal’s back and it might be a war between the media and Manfred.
