Kings Lose Fourth In a Row 116-106

The Sacramento Kings have not won a game since March 31st. Since that win they have lost four games in a row. They fell to the Spurs, the Lakers, the Bucks by a single point and lost to the Minnesota Timberwolves on Monday night the final score was 116-106. Prior to that they had won five games in a row. The bottom line is that they have been playing very competitive basketball.

They are 3.5 games out of eighth place and so a playoff run is not out of the question but with only about 22 games left in the regular season it’s time to really put it all out there.

Monday afternoon the Kings took on the Minnesota. Minnesota is currently in last place in the Western Conference with only 12 wins. This was a game that Sacramento needed to win.

The Kings got off to a good start and finished the first quarter leading 29-26. Although leading for most of the first half, they needed to put a lot more distance between themselves and Minnesota.

The Timberwolves just kept hanging around. There was not much help off the bench. But De’Aaron Fox had the high score for the first half with 20 points after a slow start. As the second half came to an end the Kings and the Timberwolves were tied at 55.

The second half needed a lot more offense from Hield, Holmes and Haliburton. All three of these guys need to make a difference in every game from here on out if the playoffs are in their future. As the second quarter came to an end both Fox and Hield had some nice offense setting up a promising second half.

As the third quarter came to an end the Kings and Minnesota were all knotted up at 82 and the Kings were fighting for their lives in this one.

The Kings all but fell apart in the fourth quarter. With less than five minutes left in the game they were trailing by 11points. This game was winnable and the Kings have the talent to beat the Timberwolves but again it was the defense that reared it’s ugly head. A defense that would match the offense would be a very nice thing for the Sacramento Kings. 

This is a game that Sacramento should have won. Fox finished with 31 points, Harrison Barnes with 21, and Buddy Hield with 18 points. The bench was ok and there is no explanation other then their defensive woes. Each loss from here on out takes them further and further away from any playoff hopes

The Kings will next take on the Pistons Thursday night in another winnable game against a last place team. Tipoff is at 7:00PM.

Simply put, the Sacramento Kings are in trouble. Offensively they are struggling and their defense is atrocious. Their Head Coach Luke Walton is having meltdowns on the sidelines out of pure frustration.

Their rookie phenom Tyrese Haliburton is out with a calf injury and to top it all off, they have lost nine games in a row. The last time they won was February 7th a win over the Clippers 113-110. Since then it has been a goose egg. The Kings finally woke up at Little Cesar’s Arena in Detroit with a 110-107 victory to snap their nine game losing streak on Friday night.

The Kings took on the Detroit Pistons another struggling team. The Pistons have the second worst record in the NBA and the Kings are not far behind. Thursday night the Kings allowed 140 points against the NBA’s worst offense the New York Knicks.

Sacramento’s nine game losing streak ties their longest losing streak in 12 years. De’Aaron Fox had a very productive game shooting for 29 points and eight assists. Harrison Barnes had 22 points and Bagley had 19 points.

Very decent numbers but the team still managed to lose the game. Off the bench Tyrese Haliburton had 17 points. The Knicks had some firepower off the bench with Julius Randle who had 21 points. The Kings just could not handle the Knicks.

The Kings three point attempts were better in the Knick game, all fingers point to the defense which is still lacking. The question is can the Kings pull it together to beat the worst team in the Eastern Conference. Can they break this losing streak tonight.

At the half the Kings held a slim lead 55-52. The Kings were setting a nice pace in the first quarter and led 35-25 as time elapsed. They stumbled in the second quarter struggling to maintain that lead and didn’t get a whole lot of help off the bench in the absence of Haliburton. The possibility of losing a tenth game in a row loomed over their heads heading into the second half.

In the third quarter it was a close one with both teams trading the lead. In the final minutes of the third quarter the Pistons started to show up and led by the score of 80-75 after three quarters. Every one of the Sacramento starters had shot double digits but the bench had only contributed two points the entire game.

Midway through the fourth quarter the Kings had tied the game at 91. After trailing by as many as eight points Sacramento was fighting to end their losing streak and getting back to the business of winning.

With 7.4 left in the final quarter and a 110-107 Kings lead Sacramento was finally able to get back in the win column. De’Aaron Fox finished with 27 points and Harrison Barnes had 21. Bagley and Holmes each had 19 points while Buddy Hield had 14.

The King’s bench was a real disappointment with only ten points in the game to the Pistons 34 points off the bench. It wasn’t pretty and it was as close as they come but it was a win and it has been a long time coming.

Sunday night the Kings will take on the Charlotte Hornets in a game that will be anything but easy. If Sacramento can get Haliburton back on the bench and play with the confidence they gained in this win they just might be able to compete with Charlotte. Tipoff is at 7:00 PM PT.

Warriors bounce back to rout the Pistons 118-91

Behind Steph Curry’s hot shooting, the Golden State Warriors routed the Detroit Pistons 118-91 at the Chase Center Saturday night. The Warriors, smarting from a dismal performance Thursday night in Phoenix, found their motion game as they had little trouble handing the Pistons a defeat. 

The Warriors played well on both ends of the court. Kelly Oubre, Jr., had one of his better games as a Warrior. Oubre knocked down 18 points, six rebounds, and made two threes. Andrew Wiggins continued to show that he fits in well with the Warriors. Wiggins has been a model of consistency for the Warriors this year. Andrew finished with 20 points, four rebounds, and connected on three threes in six tries. Steph Curry was the spark that led the Warriors to a win. Curry showed the Pistons and the NBA his greatness. Curry had quite a night with 28 points, five boards, and seven assists. He was 8 for 14 from the floor, and he made six threes in eight attempts.

The Warriors won all four quarters of the game. They won the first quarter 29-17. They finished the first half with a 19-point advantage 64-45. The Warriors continued to pour it on in the third quarter to lead 94-68. Warriors head coach Steve Kerr kept Curry on the bench for the final 12 minutes of the game. The Warriors won 118-91.

Game Notes and Stats: With the win, the Warriors are 11-9 for the year. They have won three of the last four games. The Pistons fell to 5-15.

Rookie James Wiseman just missed a double-double. Wiseman, coming off the bench, kicked in with 11 points and nine rebounds. In 20 minutes on the court, Jordan Poole tallied 20 points and was 3 for 6 from behind the three-point arc. Poole and rookie guard are heading to the Orlando bubble to play for the Warriors’ G-League team Santa Cruz. Both young men need more playing time to keep their skills sharp.

The Warriors shot 52.2% from the floor. They made 17 threes in 36 tries. As mentioned above, they moved the ball well as they recorded 34 assists. They also outrebounded the Pistons 53-49.

The Warriors’ next seven games are not going to be easy. They meet the Boston Celtics at the Chase Center Tuesday night. They travel to Texas for two with the Dallas Mavericks, and two with the San Antonio Spurs. They return home to face the improved Orlando Magic team, the Brooklyn Nets, with Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving, and James Harden.

The Golden State Warriors finished the four-game road-trip win a win over the Detroit Pistons 116-106 Tuesday night. The win evened the Warriors’ record to 2-2. The Pistons, coached by Dwayne Casey, dropped to 0-4.

Energized by their thriller one-point win over the Chicago Bulls on Sunday, the Warriors wanted the momentum to carryover Tuesday night against Detroit. Warriors’ head coach Steve Kerr hoped to see improved play from Kelly Oubre, Jr. and Andrew Wiggins.

He wanted to know if the second unit could put points on the board. He wanted to know if bench players Eric Paschall, Brad Wanamaker, Damion Lee, and Kevon Looney would mesh. Kelly Oubre had his best game as a Warrior.

He made his first three-point shot of the season. He was a terror on defense. In the third quarter, he blocked a shot and took it the other way for the score. Andrew Wiggins had a big night, too. Wiggins got hot in the fourth quarter as he paced the Warrior attack with 15 points. He made three threes as the Warriors went on a 17-4 run. Paschall, Looney, Lee, and Wanamaker all made their presence felt to help the Warriors win.

The teams played a very competitive first half. The Pistons won the first quarter, 29-24. The Pistons started the second quarter with a 9-2 run to lead 38-26. Detroit’s big men, Mason Plumlee and Blake Griffin were getting offensive rebounds. The Pistons had 13-second chance points to propel them into the lead. The Warriors fought back and finished the half trailing by three 51-48. Wiggins, Paschall, and Oubre all made buckets to keep the Warriors close.

The Warriors started the third quarter on a 10-3 run to grab the lead for the first time since early in the first quarter. The key play on the run was Oubre’s block and score to put the Warriors in the lead 58-54. The Pistons did not cave. The Warriors held the lead until Detroit passed them late in the quarter 76-75. The Warriors countered with a bucket to end the quarter leading by one 77-76.

In the fourth quarter, with Curry on the bench, Andrew Wiggins led the second unit on a 17-4 run to win the game for the Warriors. Wiggins played well on both ends of the court. Curry came back with less than five minutes on the clock. The Warriors increased the lead to 13 106-93. The Pistons refused to quit. They made a late run to close the gap to five with 1:42 left to play. Damion Lee, who hit the game-winner against the Bulls, drained a three to ice the win. The final score was 116-106.

Game Notes and Stats: The Warriors played well on defense. The Pistons shot 30% from the first half. They managed to hold the lead as they took more shots than the Warriors. For the game, Detroit shot 38%. Detroit took 92 shots. The Warriors were 38-for 76 from the floor, good for 50%. The Warriors made 14 threes in 33 tries. The Warriors outrebounded Detroit 58-53. However, Detroit had 16 offensive rebounds compared to the Warriors four.

Kelly Oubre finished with 14 points, five rebounds, and two blocked shots. He was six-for-ten from the floor and made a three. Andrew Wiggins had 27 points, seven rebounds, and three assists. He was nine-for 19 from the floor, and he connected on five threes.

 Curry had another big night. Curry, who finished with 36 against the Bulls, tallied 31. He connected on five threes to go along with five rebounds and six assists. James Wiseman had six points and six rebounds. Wiseman was limited to just 21 minutes of action as he committed three fouls in the first half. He picked up his fourth foul early in the second half and spent a lot of time on the bench. Steve Kerr let him play after he committed his fifth in the fourth quarter. He fouled out with 2:43 left. 

Eric Paschall had ten, Damion Lee eight, and Brad Wanamaker nine. 

Jerami Grant led the Pistons with 27. Josh Jackson had 17, Derrick Rose 15, Saddiq Bey 11, and Sekoy Doumbaya nine. Blake Griffin had eight points, five rebounds, and three assists in the first half. Griffin was injured when he caught an elbow to his mouth. He did not play in the second half.

The Warriors return home to face the Portland Trail Blazers on New Year’s Day to start a seven-game homestand.

The game will start at 7:30 pm at Chase Center in San Francisco. 

Kings over match Pistons 106-100 at Golden One; Fifth win in six games for Sactown

The Kings are back home. Following a solid 3-1 road trip for the Kings, they were set to return home for the next seven of eight games. The first matchup would be the Kings against the rebuilding Detroit Pistons. Tip-off was set for 3PM PST on Sunday at Golden 1 Center.

In the first half, it was truly a tale of two teams. The game started with the Pistons going on a 18-1 run to open the game.

At one point in the first the Kings would be down 21 points. Luke Walton pulled all the starters except Harrison Barnes during the meltdown looking for some sort of spark. A few minutes later he got that spark from Harry Giles.

Giles hustle and intensity not only got the Kings going but brought the Golden 1 Center crowd to life. The Kings roaring back to get within one point going into halftime. Unfortunately, Derrick Rose fell prey to an ankle injury after a missed jump shot. Rose was questionable to return the rest of the way. You hate to see an injury, but a big break for the Kings. The Kings headed into half down 51-50.

In the second half, the Kings came out strong. The Kings took their first lead of the game in the first possession of the third quarter and never looked back. The Kings took the lead and managed to hold on to win the first game back from a long road trip.

It wasn’t pretty, but the Kings were able to get the job done by a final of 106-100. For the Kings they were led in victory by De’Aaron Fox who managed to drop 23 points.

Following Fox was Buddy Hield who scored 19 points even on an off shooting night. Also, he might not show up in the scoring stats but Alex Len was maybe the most impactful of all in this game. Len finished with eight points, 13 rebounds, and five blocks. In defeat, the Pistons were led by Christian Wood who finished the game with 20 points and 12 rebounds.

The Kings will use a much needed day off at home before taking on the Washington Wizards on Tuesday night. Tip-off is set for 7PM PST.

Warriors lose their fourth in a row fall to Pistons 111-104

San Francisco- The Warriors returned home to face the Detroit Pistons Saturday evening at the Chase Center. The Warriors, who have had a rough season, were meeting an opponent, the Pistons, that they thought they could beat.

The Pistons had lost three in a row and came into the game with a record of 12-23. The Warriors were with D’Angelo Russell again. Russell suffered a right shoulder contusion against the Dallas Mavericks last week. The W’s are hoping that he will be back in the lineup on Monday when they play the Kings in Sacramento on Monday.

The Pistons arrived in town with players whose names are not well-known here on the West Coast. Sekou Doumbouya is a 19-year old rookie filling in for Blake Griffin. Many fans are seeing Tim Frazier, Tony Snell, and Sviatoslav Mykhailuk for the first time. The only name people might recognize is Detroit’s center, Andre Drummond.

The Warriors had Willie Cauley Stein back in the lineup. Willie missed the last couple of the game with the flu. Ky Bowman started at point guard in place of Russell.

The teams played a very competitive first half. The Pistons won the first quarter 25-23, but the ‘s came back and outscored them by five in the second quarter to finish the first half with a 59-56 advantage.

The second half was a different story. The Pistons’ head coach Dwane Casey inserted the veteran Derrick Rose into the game at guard. Rose was the key to the Pistons surge to win the game. Rose scored 22 points off the bench, and the Pistons outscored the warriors 55-45 to win the game 111-104.

Game Notes and stats- The only starter in double-figures for the W’s was Damion Lee. Lee had 14 points but was -18 when he was on the court. Alec Burks led the Warriors with 27 points. Burks connected on three threes and was plus 10.

Omari Spellman had a big night with 23 points, five rebounds, and four threes. Draymond Green had two points, six boards, and three assists. Draymond was hit with back-to-back technical fouls with 4:57 left in the third quarter.

Draymond had to leave the court. Steve Kerr had this to say about Draymond: “The last couple games he’s looked tired,” “I think you’ve got to remember that he’s the lone the guy, lone holdover from the group that’s been to the finals five years in a row. He looks tired to me. I’ve been trying to give him a night off here and there. We probably need to do that. I think he’s just kind of worn out emotionally and physically.”

The Pistons had five players in double figures. Rose led with 22. Sekou Soumbouya had 16, Mykhailuk 14, Bruce Brown 14. Andre Drummond had a double-double with 14 points and 18 rebounds.

The Pistons made 43 field goals. The Warriors had 33. Each team made 11 threes/ The Warriors had the advantage at the free-throw line. They made 27 free throws, the Pistons 14. The Pistons shot 51.8% from the floor, the Warriors 40.2%

The Warriors’ record dropped to 9-28. The Pistons improved to 13-23. The W’s travel to Sacramento to face the Kings Mondy night.

Warriors bounce back to defeat the Pistons 121-114

One night after being embarrassed by the Dallas Mavericks, who handed the Golden State Warriors their worst loss in the Steve Kerr era, the Warriors able to down the Detroit Pistons 121-114 at Oracle Arena Sunday. Steph Curry, Andrew Bogut, and Shaun Livingston returned to action after having last night off. Warriors head coach Steve Kerr sat out DeMarcus Cousins and Andre Iguodala down for tonight’s game.

The teams played a very competitive first quarter. The Warriors won the quarter 29-28. The Warriors looked like the rather old Warriors as they outscored Detroit 34-21 to finish the first half 63-49. The fans knew things were going their way when Draymond Green hit a three-point shot at the buzzer.

The Warriors kept the momentum going in the third quarter, They owned the third quarter so many times this season, and it was no surprise that the scored another 34 points and increased the lead to 97-77 at the end of the period.

Usually, a 20-point lead heading into the final period means that the team with the advantage will win. The Pistons didn’t see things that way, and they rallied to come within a single-digit deficit. Curry displayed his Most Valuable Player on the Warriors’ status when he knocked down a three and blunted the Pistons’ momentum. The Pistons won the fourth quarter 37-24. The Warriors won 121-114.

Game Notes and Stats: With the win, and coupled with the Denver Nuggets loss to the Indiana Pacers, the Warriors are back in first place in the Western Conference. With the win, the Warriors improve to 50-23. It was the sixth year in a row that the team has won 50 games, and that set a new franchise record.

The Pistons’ record fell to 37-36, and they are now in seventh place in the Eastern Conference.

Before the game, the Warriors welcomed back Zaza Pachulia to Oracle Arena. Pachulia won two championships with the Warriors, and the fans gave him very warm reception as he was a fan favorite at Oracle. Klay Thompson presented him his championship ring. The team selected Thompson to do the honors as he is a close friend.

Steph Curry led the Warriors with 26 points. Thompson, who had a tough night against Dallas, bounced back with 24 points. Kevin Durant had a double-double with 14 points and 11 assists. Draymond Green had 14 points and 8 assists. Kevon Looney, coming off the bench, had 11. Shaun Livingston added 8. Quinn Cook finished with 7.

Blake Griffin led the Pistons with 24. Andre Drummond was the only other Piston starter in double figures with 12. Drummond also had 11 rebounds. Four Piston bench players were in double figures. Luke Kennard had 20, Ish Smith, 14, Thon Maker 12, and Langston Galloway 12. Pachulia, in his return to Oracle, had 4.

The Warriors made 46 buckets on 74 tries for a 62.2% shooting percentage. The Pistons were 39-for-84. The Warriors outrebounded the Pistons 37-39 and recorded 31 assists.

Up Next: The Warriors travel to Memphis to face the Grizzlies Wednesday night. Game time will be at 5 pm.
