Raiders Blown-out By Bills 38-10; Las Vegas to host Pittsburgh on Sunday Night Football

The Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver DeVante Adams scores the only touchdown the Raiders would have for the game in the first half against the Buffalo Bills at Highmark Stadium Orchard Park NY on Sun Sep 17, 2023 (AP News photo)

By Barbara Mason

An outstanding game Sunday from Josh Allen and company blew the Raiders out of the stadium as the Bills beat the Raiders 38-10.

In Week 2 the Raiders (1-1) traveled to Buffalo (1-1) for a game at Highmark Stadium with Josh Allen and the Bills. Buffalo lost their opener at MetLife Stadium to the New York Jets, despite the early exit of Aaron Rodgers in the first quarter , 22-16.

Turnovers really hurt the Bills in Week 1. Allen threw three interceptions in the wild and often ugly game. The loss was a stunner especially in the absence of Rodgers. It’s a good bet that the Raiders will see an entirely different Josh Allen in Week Two.

The temperature at kickoff was 71 degrees, a balmy afternoon for this game. As this season goes deeper we will no doubt see some very nasty weather but Sunday’s game was played in clement conditions.

Game recap: The Raiders were first up on the board in the opening quarter. Las Vegas quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo found Davante Adams for 16 yards and the touchdown giving the Raiders the 7-0 lead. Buffalo tied up the game in the first quarter on a four Yd rush by Latavius Murray 7-7.

Raider’s kicker Daniel Carlson made a 47 Yard Field Goal in the second quarter, but the quarter belonged to Josh Allen who threw two touchdown passes. The first score in the quarter was a pass from Allen to Dawson Knox for two Yds in the opening minutes.

As the quarter began to wear down Allen found Kahlil Shakir for 11 yards and a second touchdown with 18 ticks left in the first half. The score at the half was 21-10. Josh Allen was hot unlike the awful game he had last week pulling it all together in the first two quarters. He was 18 of 21 for 142 yards, a vast improvement this week.

There was good quarterback production on both sides in this first half. Garoppolo did have a pick, a tipped ball, but other than that he was solid.

The Bills had won the coin toss and had elected to defer to the second half. At 5:59 in the third quarter, Allen struck against this time a two yard pass to Gabe Davis and a 28-10 lead. This was Allen’s third touchdown of the game.

Buffalo’s Tyler Bass kicked a 29 yard field goal to start the fourth quarter taking a commanding lead 31-10. Las Vegas was in deep trouble. The Raiders had very little opportunity with so little time on the field in this game.

The Raiders only had the ball for close to 15 minutes through three quarters. The Bills had the ball for almost 13 minutes in the third quarter. It was complete domination by the Bills as Buffalo was stuffing the Raiders rushing game, and shutting down their passing game.

With 5:08 left in the game the Bills had their second rushing touchdown of the day taking a 38-10 lead. Buffalo was on their way to their first win of the season.

With so little time of possession, the Raiders didn’t have much of a chance and the two interceptions didn’t help. Jimmy Garoppolo was 16/24 for 185 yards, one TD and two interceptions.

They only had 55 total rushing yards and one fumble. It was a truly forgettable game. To make things even worse, Davante Adams left the field late in the fourth quarter after a heavy hit. With Jacobi Meyers out due to concussion suffered in the Denver game, the Raiders cannot afford losing another player on their receiving corp.

Josh Allen was 31 of 37 passing for 274 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions. The Bills had 183 yards rushing and no fumbles playing a tremendous game.

Raiders post game notes: Last Sunday the Raiders squeaked out a nice win over a division rival to start the 2023 season. They beat the Denver Broncos 17-16. As Davante Adams put it, “it ain’t got to be pretty, ” and it certainly was not pretty but Las Vegas got the job done opening the season with a win. The Broncos special teams self-destructed and the Raiders took full advantage.

In Week Three the Raiders will welcome the Pittsburg Steelers to Allegiant Stadium for Sunday Night Football. The Steelers are playing the Cleveland Browns on Monday Night Football and looking for their first win of the season. Kickoff for the Raiders vs Steelers game next week will be Sunday night at 5:20 PM.

Las Vegas Raiders podcast with Rich Perez: Can Raiders beat Broncos as Denver starts it’s back up quarterback Lock

Las Vegas Raiders head coach Rich Bisaccia has a reaction to a play in the second half against the Cleveland Browns on Mon Dec 20, 2021 at First Energy Stadium in Cleveland (AP News photo)

On the Raiders podcast with Rich Perez:

#1 The Las Vegas (7-7) have signed defensive back Tony Brown to the practice sound and have released tight end Matt Bushman from the same practice squad.

#2 Rich, the defensive backs were lacking so the Raiders signed Brown to the practice squad, the way things are going how long do you see Brown leaving the practice squad and getting on the team.

#3 The Raiders have had a lot of injuries all season and after last week’s game in Cleveland things are getting tougher after losing safety Jonathan Abram who will need surgery and with lack a of defensive backs against the Denver Broncos (7-7). The Raiders could be seeing lots of passing and carrying by the Broncos led by quarterback Drew Lock.

#4 Cornerbacks Nate Hobbs and Brandon Facyson, safety Roderick Teamer all on the Covid 19/reserve list what does it mean to have these players missing.

#5 The Raiders host the Broncos this Sunday at Allegiant Stadium for 1:25 pm PST kick off. The Broncos have won four out of the last seven games and defeated the Raiders 34-24 on Oct 17 their last meeting who do you like this game coming up.

Las Vegas Raiders podcast with Tony Renteria: Carr sacked but not out, Browns couldn’t rain on the Raiders parade; Raiders host Broncos Sunday

Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Derek Carr (4) might have lost control of the ball after being sacked by the Cleveland Browns Myles Garrett (bottom) but the Raiders didn’t lose the game in the final seconds at FirstEnergy Stadium in Cleveland on Sun Dec 19, 2021 (AP News photo)

On the Raiders podcast with Tony R:

#1 Tony, got to ask you about how thrilling that had to be for Las Vegas Raiders kicker Daniel Carlson who booted a 48 yarder for the winning field goal to defeat the Cleveland Browns by three points 16-14.

#2 Tony, the Browns were without almost half of their team on Sunday, they also were missing quarterback Baker Mayfield and back up Case Keenum due to Covid 19 protocols the Raiders just got by but that might light a fire under them going forward as they keep their playoff hopes alive.

#3 Raiders head coach Rich Bisaccia said after Sunday’s game that even though the game looked like it was going to go the other way “well done by our players.”

#4 The win was the Raiders first game since they defeated the Dallas Cowboys 36-33 on Thanksgiving day followed by two straight loses to the Washington Football Team and the Kansas City Chiefs. The Chiefs was a crushing loss and the Raiders really muscled up to squeak by the Browns last Sunday.

#5 The Denver Broncos (7-7) come calling on Sunday at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. The Broncos have won four of their last seven games are a .500 team and defeated the Raiders the last time the two teams met 34-24 on Oct 17th. Tony how do you see this match up for Sunday a 1:25 pm kick off.

It was close Raiders pull it off against Browns 16-14 in Cleveland; Carlson boots game winner

With time running on the clock in the fourth quarter Las Vegas Raider kicker Daniel Carlson got the game winning boot against the Cleveland Browns defense at FirstEnergy Field in Cleveland on Mon Dec 20, 2021 (AP News photo)

By Rich Perez

The Las Vegas Raiders (7-7) just squeaked by the Cleveland Browns (7-7) 16-14 at FirstEnergy Stadium. The Raiders in a must win situation against just got by in the fourth quarter thanks to kicker Daniel Carlson who kicked a 48 yard field goal.

The win helped the Raiders snap a two game losing streak and kept Las Vegas’ playoffs hope alive. The Raiders earlier in the game fell a point behind 14-13 when Browns third string quarterback Nick Mullens threw for a six yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Harrison Bryant with just under four minutes left at 3:45 in the game.

Mullens got the call in his first appearance all season after starter Baker Mayfield and second stringer Case Keenum both tested positive for Covid 19 along with eight other teammates. The lack of help helped the Raiders just get by the Browns in the latter stages of the game.

This game was originally scheduled for Saturday but got the Monday afternoon 3 PM PST or 6PM EST start after the Browns were in Covid protocols. With just 2:47 left in the game Raiders quarterback Derek Carr threw a pass intended for wide receiver Zay Jones that was intercepted by Browns cornerback Greedy Williams which the Browns and their fans figured they Browns would wind the clock down and hand the Raiders another L.

It was not to be for the Browns, Browns running back Nick Chubb couldn’t get much daylight against the Raiders defense. Chubb took three carries against the Raiders defense only to be held to seven yards.

With 1:50 left in the game the Raiders got another chance and the ball back and Carr under center wanted Las Vegas to get into good field position to come back and score. After Browns kicker Dustin Colquitt punted the Raiders got the ball on their own 30 and Carr went to work.

Carr threw three yard pass to Foster Moreau, then Jones for 12 yards, Raider running back Josh Jacobs carried for nine yards, Moreau caught a 12 yard pass and got the ball to the 30 yard line in the Browns zone.

The Thanksgiving Day hero Carlson would get another chance to boot another game winner. Carlson hit a game winning field goal to hand the Raiders a 36-33 win on Thanksgiving day. Fast forward to Monday and Carlson lined it up and hit the ball for a 48 yarder to get the Raiders a two point win. Carlson has now booted 31 successful field goals out of 34 attempts.

The next game for the Raiders, they will host the Denver Broncos Sun Dec 26th at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas at 1:25 pm PST. The Broncos lost a tough one to the Cincinnati Bengals last Sunday 15-10. Broncos quarterback Teddy Bridgewater was relieved by back up Drew Lock after receiving a concussion. Bridgewater was released from the hospital on Monday.

Las Vegas Raiders podcast with Rich Perez: Chiefs showed Raiders what happens when you disrespect them in their own house; Browns have 14 players out for Monday

The Kansas City Chiefs logo at the 50 yard that the Raiders stomped on before last Sun Dec 12, 2021 game at Arrowhead Stadium according to social media (AP News photo)

On the Raiders podcast with Rich:

#1 Rich, the Raiders stomping on the Kansas City Chiefs logo at midfield is one of those unwritten football codes you just don’t do and the payback for it was unforgettable last Sunday to the tune of a 48-9 loss at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City.

#2 Before kickoff the Raiders moved their huddle from the 25 yard line to midfield right on top of the Chiefs logo at the 50 yard line. It was reported that most of the Raider players had no idea that the pre game huddle was a way to show disrespect to their hosts.

#3 Chiefs running back Mike Hughes said he had no idea what it was about until after the game and the social media chatter and said it was pretty disrespectful.

#4 The Chiefs made the Raiders pay dearly for it not letting up all and game long. The was the biggest landslide win or loss for the Raiders and Chiefs in their 62 year history and it was mostly built on payback.

#5 Rich, the Raiders are in Cleveland this Monday at 2:00 PM PST to face the Browns (7-6) the Browns in their last game just narrowly got by the Baltimore Ravens (8-5) 24-22 in Cleveland. Cleveland also has 14 players and coaches out for Covid 19 protocols for this Sunday’s game.

Las Vegas Raiders podcast with Tony Renteria: Raiders try to put lopsided Chiefs game behind them, face a Brown team with 19 players and coaches on covid list Sunday

Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Hunter Renfrow (13) is hit from behind by Kansas City Chiefs cornerback Mike Hughes (21) who forces a fumble in the first half of Sun Dec 12, 2021 game in Kansas City’s Arrowhead Stadium. The Raiders face the Cleveland Browns this Sun Dec 19, 2021 at EnergyFirst Stadium in Cleveland (AP News photo)

On the Raiders podcast with Tony Renteria:

#1 Last Sunday’s game at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City was a record setter for the Chiefs (9-4) their biggest spread in a 39 point victory over the Las Vegas Raiders (6-7) 48-9. There certainly wasn’t a mercy rule in this contest.

#2 You would never know with a score like that that Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes would throw well under 300 yards his line, 20-24, 258 yards, and two touchdowns it just seemed like the running backs were on autopilot all game long.

#3 Tony, Mahomes said after the game, “You don’t want people coming into your stadium and trying to disrespect things you’ve built,” Mahomes said. “So for us, there was a little more motivation to go against a really good football team that we have a rivalry against.”

#4 For the Raiders quarterback Derek Carr 33-45, 263 yards, one touchdown and an interception. For Carr’s offense last Sunday a field goal in the second quarter by Dan Carlson and a touchdown catch for Hunter Renfrow in the third quarter.

#5 Up next for the Raiders the Cleveland Browns (7-6) at FirstEnergy Stadium in Cleveland. The Browns have been playing .500 going 5-5 in their last ten games. The Browns won their last game Sunday just getting by the Baltimore Ravens (8-5) at FirstEnergy. The Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield threw for 190 yards and two touchdowns.

#6 Tony, the game was a concern for a moment as 14 players and coaches which included quarterback Baker Mayfield were put on the Covid 19 protocols lists for this Saturday. The Browns will be shorthanded but they will be able to field a team against the Raiders this Saturday.

Meanwhile Chiefs quarterback Pat Mahomes threw for 255 yards and one touchdown for the 22-17 win.

#4 It looked like the Saints might have made things interesting to start their game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers scoring six in the first quarter and seven in the second quarter but the Bucs in the second quarter came back and scored 13, seven in the second and ten in the third to get a ten point win over the Saints 30-20. The Bucs quarterback Tom Brady threw for 199 yards and two touchdowns. Could the Bucs be on the road to the Super Bowl?
