Warriors Provide Electric Play To Trounce Bulls 138-96

After last nights game against the Milwaukee Bucks the Golden State Warriors were not entirely sure what they would be seeing from the Golden State Warriors going forward. The Bucks put the hurt on the Warriors in a blowout 118-99. At the half in that game the Bucks led by the score of 77-38.

Friday night the Warriors (31-11) took on another great team the Chicago Bulls (27-13). The Bulls are the leaders in the Eastern Conference and were probably pretty confident going into this game especially seeing what the Bucks had done to Golden State last night. Going into the game the Bulls were favored by four points.

We knew that it was just a matter of time before the Warriors shook off the funk they were in. We know what this team is capable of. What we saw in this game was a reversal of fortune. Golden State totally cleaned up the turnovers and the shooting in this game was a thing of beauty.

After the first quarter the Warriors led 37-28. In the second quarter it was the Warriors who took a significant lead into the locker room 78-47. Instead of giving up 77 points in the first half, Golden State scored 78 points.

Andrew Wiggins had 20 points at the half followed by Jordan Poole with 15. Jonathan Kuminga and Stephen Curry both had double digits. With only two turnovers in the game and 11 of 24 from downtown plus shooting at 57% it was clear that the Warriors were on a mission.

The Warriors had held the Bulls to 45% shooting and forced eleven turnovers which turned into 21 points for Golden State. There was a bit of a scare in the second quarter when Curry fell on his hand and favored his wrist for a bit.

He was able to shake it off and it appeared that he suffered no ill effects from the fall. Going into the third quarter the Warriors kept the pressure on the Bulls. Four of the Warriors starters had shot in double digits mid-way through the quarter.

Kevon Looney had a double double with 11 rebounds and 10 points. It was an amazing turnaround for the team. It was Warrior basketball at it’s finest. It was all Warriors through three quarters. When they should have been fatigued from back to back games, the Warriors were sharp and refreshed and showing not a sign of lethargy or weariness.

As the third quarter came to an end the Warriors were still tearing it up 112-72 for a 40 point lead.

In the fourth quarter it was Jonathan Kuminga who was attacking the rim like a pro shooting for 23 points. This was as complete a game offensively and defensively as one could ask for. In the fourth quarter Curry went to the locker room to have his hand evaluated. He returned without a wrap on his hand and appeared to be just fine. The final was 138-96 in a blowout.

Off the bench Kuminga had 25 points in an excellent game, his best of the season. Starters Poole had 22 and Andrew Wiggins had 21. They finished with only seven turnovers.

“We needed this win, it was important. We’ve got to be strong and show them what we are about,” said Wiggins after the game. “We have a lot of guys who can dominate,” he said.

The Warriors will be taking on the Minnesota Timberwolves on Sunday to end their road trip. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:00 PM. Golden State will head home after this game for a 7-game home stand.

Warriors Prove Elite Status Beating Chicago 119-93

After a horrific start in Friday night’s game, the Golden State Warriors (11-1) turned things around led by a Curry Flurry of epic proportion. They finished off the Eastern Conference leaders 119-93.

Friday night the Warriors finished their eight-game home stand against the Chicago Bulls (8-4) looking for their seventh win in a row. Their last six wins were by double digits although tonight they will be challenged by the Eastern Conference leading Bulls.

The Warriors will try to contain a Chicago team that is very good on both ends of the court. The Bulls do not take very many three point attempts, probably their only weakness but they are very good from mid-court range.

In the first quarter, the Bulls simply outplayed the Warriors forcing seven turnovers and taking the early lead 29-23. The Warriors were actually lucky to only be trailing by six points. It was an ugly start for the Dubs and against a team like the Bulls a start like this could prove very costly.

The Warriors really turned things around in the second quarter and limited the turnovers with only three. They took the lead at the half after trailing by ten points 48-43. The Warriors did a good job on the glass in the second quarter. This game had all the makings of a very close finish. Zach Lavine had 12 points for Chicago and Stephen Curry finished the half with 17 points, three of them from downtown.

The third quarter was a good one for the Warriors forcing turnovers and outplaying the Bulls. Curry continued his three point onslaught leading the team to a nineteen point advantage mid-way through the quarter. The Warriors defense forced the Bulls into three points attempts which did not go well for Chicago and at the end of three quarters the Warriors had a big-time serious lead 84-62.

The Bulls would need a monster comeback in the final quarter trailing by 24 points mid-way through the fourth quarter. Chicago began to hit some three’s trying to trim the Warrior lead. Every time the Bulls would make a run, the Warriors would answer. It had been all Golden State in the second half. The final of 119-93 proves without doubt that Golden State is indeed an elite team.

Curry had 40 points in this game and again Andrew Wiggins had an amazing game with 15 points and seven rebounds. The bench was equally amazing with Kuminga, Iguodala and Payton scoring eight points apiece. We can’t talk Warrior offense without talking defense and an amazing job by Draymond Green with nine rebounds and seven assists.

This game silenced those saying that the Warriors hadn’t played any real team yet. Well now they have and there is your answer. These guys are for real and are going to be very difficult to beat moving forward. Still they talk about improving all the time and we all look forward to those improvements because they look pretty invincible right now.

The Warriors head out on the road to take on the Hornets (7-7) Sunday afternoon. Tipoff is scheduled for 4:00 PM.

Curry’s return helps Warriors to 116-102 victory over Bulls

SAN FRANCISCO — The Golden State Warriors’ all-world star, Steph Curry, returned to action for the first time since March 17th. The Warriors were 1-6 without Curry in the lineup. The Warriors had lost four in a row and were hoping to get back on the winning track Monday night. All Curry did was score 32 points to lead the Warriors to a 116-102 win over the Chicago Bulls.

The Bulls, coached by Billy Donovan, acquired Nikola Vucevic at the Orlando Magic trade deadline. Vucevic helped the Magic defeat the Warriors back in February. The Warriors needed a total team effort if they hoped to snap the four-game losing streak. All five Warrior starters finished in double figures. The Bulls lost their fourth straight and sixth in the last seven games.

The teams played a fairly even first quarter. Steph Curry paced the attack as he knocked several threes. Curry landed on his backside late in the first quarter and spent most of the second quarter with an ice pack wrapped around his back. Each team scored 31 points in the second quarter, and the Warriors finished the first half leading by five 65-60.

The Warriors increased the lead to 11 after three quarters of action. Curry, Andrew Wiggins, and Kelly Oubre all made contributions to keep Chicago from gaining ground. Defense was the name of the game in the fourth quarter. The Warriors won the quarter 20-17 to win by a final score of 116-102.

Game Notes and Stats: With the win, the Warriors improved to 23-24 for the year. Chicago dropped to 19-26.

Steph Curry led the Warriors with 32 points, five rebounds, and six assists. He was 11-for-24 from the floor, and he made six threes in 14 tries. It was not a bad line for someone that had not played in the last two weeks. Steph scored 30 or more points in a game for the 18th time this season. Andrew Wiggins was second in scoring with 21 points. Wiggins made three threes. Kelly Oubre had a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds. James Wiseman had 12 points and five rebounds. Draymond Green finished with 11 points, five rebounds, and nine assists. Green, who did take a shot last Friday night, was 4-for-7 from the floor and knocked down three threes from downtown. Jordan Poole had seven, and Kent Bazemore added nine. The Warriors shot 50% from the floor and made 16 threes in 38 attempts.

The Bulls’ Nikola Vucevic led his team with 21 points and nine rebounds. Tomas Satoransky, Patrick Williams, and Lauri Markkanen each had 14 points. Zach LaVine had 12 points.

Kings Drop Six In a Row to the Bulls 122-114

The Sacramento Kings are struggling mightily after suffering their fifth straight loss last Thursday against the Heat 118-110. They had a good first half in that game, but stumbled in the second half.

Nemanja Bjelica had 25 points in the game and they will be depending heavily on him in tonight’s game against the Chicago Bulls. Bagley also turned in 19 points in that game while De’Aaron Fox had 11 points in another disappointing game for him.

The Kings are considered one of the worst defenses in the league, however, performing better than expected with a record of 12-16. The Kings won their last game against the Bulls in early January. In that game, the Kings’ Tyrese Haliburton had some great play late in the game.

The Bulls had a 28-21 lead to end the first quarter of play. They outscored the Kings in the second quarter leading by the score of 68-58 at halftime. The Bulls stayed on top of the Kings in the third quarter 95-83 and Sacramento had some work to do in final quarter of play.

The Kings made some bids in the second half, but just couldn’t put up enough defense to pull out a win. Every time they pulled close, the Bulls turned them away. The final score was 122-114 with the Bulls handing the Kings their sixth loss in a row.

Again, Bagley was the top shooter with 26 points. De’Aaron Fox had 20 points coming on in the second half. Buddy Hield had 23 points and off the bench Tyrese Haliburton had 16 points. Zach Lavine had 38 points for the Bulls. He had support from teammates Coby White with 19, Garrett Temple with 14 and Patrick Williams with 11.

Things will not be getting much easier for the Kings. They will be facing the Bucks tomorrow evening followed by a Tuesday night game against the Nets.

#1 The Kings took a tough loss at home at Golden One Center against the Miami Heat on Thursday night 118-110. The Kings just couldn’t keep up.

#2 Jeremiah, talk about the offensive efforts of De’Aaron Fox and he’s been able to lead on offense but he’s been doing a lot of heavy lifting.

#3 The Kings played some close quarters but the Heat were able to stay ahead. How frustrating does that have to be for Kings head coach Luke Walton.

#4 The Heat’s Jimmy Butler scored 13 points, 13 assists, and had 10 rebounds. It was Butler’s third straight triple double game.

Kings snap 3-game losing skid with 128-124 win over Bulls

SACRAMENTO — The Sacramento Kings kicked off a seven-game homestand on Wednesday night, hosting the Chicago Bulls at the Golden 1 Center.

The Kings looked to snap their three-game losing skid, but it wasn’t going to be an easy task as the Bulls brought a two-game winning streak, including a come-from-behind win 111-108 over the Portland Trail Blazers, into the Golden 1 Center. Both teams exchanged leads and ties throughout the game, but the Kings came out on top with a 128-124 win.

After a scoreless 40 seconds, Richaun Holmes collected a pass from Harrison Barnes and hit a 2-pointer to get the Kings on the board 2-0 at 11:20 of the first quarter. Patrick Williams made a pair of free throws to help the Bulls tied the game at 18 with 4:43 left in the first. Thaddeus Young missed a 3-point attempt, Chicago had a shot clock violation that resulted to the clock being set to 2.2 seconds, and Sacramento got an offensive rebound for a 28-25 lead at the end of the first.

Richaun Holmes threw down a dunk to open the scoring just nine seconds into the second quarter. Holmes added a pair of free throws and made a finger-roll layup to give the Kings a 34-27 lead at 10:09 of the second. Harrison Barnes hit back-to-back 3-pointers in a span of 30 seconds, and Sacramento took a 10-point lead with 8:29 left in the second. Coby White put on a scoring clinic and recorded his 1,000th career point, while Zach LaVine made a driving layup late in the second; but the Kings still led by three points, 62-59, at halftime.

The Kings opened the second half with a bang. Harrison Barnes made a driving layup to give the Kings a 64-59 lead 13 seconds into the third quarter. After Chicago went on a 10-2 run and made it a 1-point game, Sacramento took a timeout with 2:58 left in the third. There were four ties before the third came to an end and the teams were tied at 93 entering the last 12 minutes of the game.

The Bulls took an early 95-93 lead on Patrick Williams’ layup to start the fourth quarter. The Kings responded with Tyrese Haliburton’s layup and Nemanja Bjelica’s 3-pointer and led by three, 98-95, at 10:28 of the fourth.

The Kings challenged Marvin Bagley III’s shooting foul, but the replay review confirmed that the call stood and Sacramento was charged with a timeout at 10:15 of the fourth. The game remained a tight contest, but Buddy Hield nailed a 25-foot 3-pointer to put the Kings up 123-119 with 38.3 seconds left in the fourth. Tyrese Haliburton made a step-back jump shot and Nemanja Bjelica made a free throw to seal the Kings’ win.

The Kings improved to 4-4. Richaun Holmes led all scorers with 25 points.

The Bulls fell to 4-5. Coby White led all scorers with 36 points.

The Kings host the Toronto Raptors on Friday, January 8 at 7 pm PT.

Lee hits three point buzzer beater to get Golden State’s first win; defeat Chicago 129-128 at the United Center

The Golden State Warriors won their first game of the year when Damion Lee hit a three-pointer just before the buzzer sounded to win a thriller 129-128 over the Chicago Bulls. Under the tutelage of their new head coach Billy Donovan, the Bulls had lost their two games of the year. They wanted to put one in the win column for him Sunday night against the Warriors. 

Draymond Green was not available again as he has a strained muscle in his leg. The Warriors hoped he will be back on the court when they finished the four-game road trip Tuesday night in Detroit.

The Warriors announced that Marquese Chriss suffered a broken fibula in practice Saturday. Chriss will undergo surgery to repair the damage, and he may be lost for the entire season. Warriors’ head coach Steve Kerr had to revamp his lineup for the match against the Bulls.

So far this season, the Warriors have not performed well on offense. Steph Curry was missing three-point shots. Kelly Oubre, Jr. could not buy a bucket. Andrew Wiggins’ game was not up to par.

The Brooklyn Nets and Milwaukee torched the Warriors’ defense in the first two games of the season. Two questions had to be answered Sunday night. Could the Warriors’ offense rebound? Would the defense be shredded again?

The team answered both questions. Yes, the offense did better, and they shot better than 40% from the floor.  Curry led the team with 36 points, and he made five three pointers to help the team win.

Andrew Wiggins played well on both ends of the court. Oubre hustled all night long. He was a force on defense. He scored eight points to go along with 11 rebounds and four steals. The Warrior bench made significant contributions to help win the game. Eric Paschall, Kevon Looney, Damion Lee, Jordan Poole, and Mychal Mulder came through for the Warriors Sunday night.

The teams played a very competitive first 24 minutes of play. The Warriors finished by leading 60-56. The Warriors shot 40.4% from the floor and made nine threes. Chicago took 15 shots less than the Warriors. They were 50% from the floor, and they made six threes. The Warriors’ defense sparkled as they made eight steals and blocked two shots. They also forced Chicago to commit 14 turnovers.

The Bulls went on a 12-2 run to start the third quarter. They led 71-64, but Wiggins connected on a three to make it 71-67. The Bulls continued to maintain the lead the entire quarter. They won the third quarter 41-33 to lead 97-93 after three-quarters of play.

The Warriors did not start Curry to start the fourth quarter. Kerr brought him in with about eight minutes left in the game. Every time the Warriors inch closer, the Bulls would not have an answer.

The Warriors tied the game 100-100. The Bulls went on a 10-2 run. They led by nine 121-112 when Curry hit a two-point bucket. It just missed being a three. Oubre followed with a big bucket to close the gap to five 121-116. Curry made two free throws and a three-pointer to come within two 123-121. The Bulls connected on a three. Curry countered with a bucket and a free throw to stay within reach 126-124. Kevon Looney tied the game at 126.

The Bulls’ star, Zach LaVine, scored to put the Bulls up by two 128-126 with 16.9 seconds left to play. The Bulls’ defense focused on Curry to make sure he wouldn’t make the game’s last shot.

With five seconds left on the clock, the Warriors had to inbound the ball. Who would get the ball? Chicago, as mentioned above, double-teamed Curry. The inbound pass went to Damion Lee. Without any hesitation, Lee raced to the top of the key and drained the three-point shot to put the Warriors ahead 129-128. The team raced out to celebrate their first win of the season.

Game Notes and Stats: Curry broke Rick Barry’s consecutive free throw streak Sunday night. Curry didn’t miss a free throw as he made all nine attempts. His line was 36 points, two boards, six assists.

He was 11-for 25 from the floor, and he made five threes in 15 tries. Andrew Wiggins has 19 points, nine boards, and four assists. James Wiseman finished with seven points and three rebounds. Juan Toscano-Anderson, starting in place of Draymond Green, had five points and five rebounds. The Warrior bench players produced 52 points. Eric Paschall had 15, Damion Lee 12, Looney eight, Poole ten, and Mulder seven.

Zach LaVine paced the Bulls with 33. Lauri Markkanen 23, Wendell Carter Jr 22, Coby White 20. Otto Porter, Jr, coming off the bench, added 12.

The Warriors are 1-2 for the year. The Bulls are now 0-3.

The Warriors face the Pistons in Detroit Tuesday night. The game begins at 3 pm. The Pistons are 0-2 so far this year.

NBA Christmas Day special: Bucks crush the Warriors 138-99

The Golden State Warriors met the Milwaukee Bucks on Christmas Day at the FiServe Arena in Milwaukee. The Bucks, one of the best teams in the NBA, blew out the Warriors 138-99. Draymond Green did not play due to a sore foot. Golden State hopes he will play in Chicago on Sunday.

The Warriors have been blown out in their first two games of the season. Their start has been similar to an ice cream flavor, a very Rocky Road. 

The Warriors were no match for the Bucks on Friday. They lost the first quarter 33-25. Steph Curry could not get anything going. He scored seven points. Five were free throws, and he had one two-point bucket. Andrew Wiggins scored a bucket, but Kelly Oubre did not score. 

The Warriors played better in the second period. They played the Bucks evenly and lost the period 33-31. The rookie center, James Wiseman, played well. He finished the first half with fourteen points, four rebounds, and two blocked shots. Wiggins had six in the quarter, and Steph finished the half with fifteen. Milwaukee owns a ten-point advantage 66-56.

During the Warriors’ great five-year run, they owned the second half, especially the third quarter. The Warrior mojo disappeared Friday afternoon. The Bucks put on an offensive display as they crushed the Warriors in the second half. They outscored the Warriors 73-43 in the final 24 minutes of the game. The Warriors did not quit. They played hard, but their offense was non-existent. Milwaukee won by 39 points 138-99.

Game Notes and Stats: Even though the Bucks blew out the Dubs, there were some bright spots. James Wiseman continued to impress. He tallied 18 points, eight rebounds in 25 minutes of action.

James was 5-11 from the floor and made three threes. He also blocked three shots. Curry kicked in with nineteen. It was not Steph’s night. He was six-for-16 from the floor and made two threes in ten tries. Andrew Wiggins played better than he did against Brooklyn. He ended with twelve points and six rebounds. Kelly Oubre tried but did not have success. He put three points on the board. He was one-for-10 from the floor and 0-for four from three-point range. 

Bench players Brad Wanamaker, Jordan Poole, and Damion Lee tallied 11, 11, and 9, respectively.

Kris Middleton led the Bucks with 31. Two-time NBA MVP Giannis Antetokoumpo scored fifteen. He had thirteen rebounds. Donte DiVincenzo had thirteen, Jrue Holiday twelve, Bobby Portis ten, and D.J. Augustin thirteen.

The Warriors shot just 34% from the floor. The Bucks shot 54%. Teams that shoot 34% will not win many games in the NBA. The Warriors made ten threes. Milwaukee had twenty threes. The Bucks won the boards 69-49.

The Warriors move onto Chicago to face the Bulls Sunday night. The game will start at 5:00 pm.

In Memoriam- The NBA announced that Boston Celtic legend K.C.Jones, who was 88, passed away. Jones, who is in the NBA’s Hall of Fame, won eight championships with the Boston Celtics as a player and two more as a coach.

The Kings play defense and beat the Bulls 98-81 on Friday in Chicago

The long national nightmare is over for “Sacramento Proud” as their team’s six-game losing streak has come to an end in Chicago. The Kings (16-29) downed the Bulls 98-81 on Friday night at the United Center.

The last time the Kings won a basketball game was on January 7th in Phoenix. Those 16 days between wins seemed like an eternity for Sacramento fans.

A major change to the starting lineup

Sometimes a coach must shake things up to in order to get his team’s attention. In this case, Kings head coach – Luke Walton – made a change to his starting lineup. Guard Buddy Hield has been in a shooting slump, so Walton took Hield out of the starting rotation and replaced him with Bogdan Bogdanovic who has been the Kings sixth man all season.

Moving a starter to the bench is always dangerous because a coach never knows how the player will react. In this case, the lineup moves worked.

Hield took the change in stride

In reality, Hield did more than take things in stride – he thrived. Hield led the Kings in scoring by putting up 21 points in the game. He shot 7-for-12 overall and hit 5 of 9 from behind the 3-point line. Hield also grabbed eight rebounds.

After the game, Kings head coach Luke Walton was full of praise for Hield for his play and his reaction to his change in the rotation.

The key to the win was defense

This was the second game this season that the Kings held their opponent to under 90 points. The Kings are 2-0 in those games.

Sacramento held Chicago to just 39.2% (31-for-79) shooting overall and the Bulls hit only 8 of 37 (21.6%) from 3-point range.

The Kings caused the Bulls (17-30) to turn the ball over 21 times which resulted in 16 Sacramento points.

The Bulls largest lead of the game was three points.

The Golden State Warriors (5-19) faced the Chicago Bulls (8-15) away on Friday, Dec. 6, taking home a close win (100-98). There was almost no shortage of being on the edge of one’s seat; the game remained very neck-in-neck throughout.

Bulls’ Tomas Satoransky made the first basket of the game nearly a minute in. The Dubs took their first lead when D’Angelo Russell made a three-pointer a minute later, holding the lead until halfway through the first quarter when Kris Dunn made a three-pointer for the Bulls (assisted by Satoransky). The Bulls held the lead for the remainder of the quarter, leading the Warriors 28-23.

Almost two minutes into the second quarter, Eric Paschall gave the Dubs the lead again after making a free throw. For three minutes the scores would increase but end up tied again. At the end of the second, the Bulls had a one-point lead (51-50).

Only once in the third quarter did the Dubs have the lead (by one point), which lasted under 30 seconds. Halfway through, they trailed the Bulls by eight points (62-70) and by six at the end (77-83).

The Bulls still exceeded the Dubs for half of the final period and the score was tied four different times. Bulls’ Zach LaVine tied the score 98-98 with 1:18 remaining in the game, and Dubs’ Glenn Robinson III made the game-winning shot with 1:03 left. The final score was 100-98, Dubs.
