NFL Playoff review podcast with Barbara Mason: Rams just edge out Seahawks; Ravens win by a touchdown over Titans; plus more

On the NFL Playoff review with Barbara:

#1 The Buffalo Bills just got by the Indianapolis Colts on Saturday with a 27-24 win. The Bills quarterback Josh Allen threw for 324 yards and two touchdowns. The game was close but Allen got a lot of yards against the Colts.

#2 Barbara, how much of a surprise was it for you that the Los Angeles Rams came up a winner over the Seattle Seahawks 30-20. For the Rams quarterback Jared Goff threw for 125 yards and a touchdown and the Rams had good offensive command over the Seahawks.

#3 The Tampa Bay Buccaneers got down to business on Saturday with a convincing win over the Washington Football Team 31-23. Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady threw for 381 yards and two touchdowns.  Washington tried to make an attempt to catch the Bucs but fell short 16-13 but fell short in the ten point loss.

#4 The Baltimore Ravens came up with a close win over the Tennessee Titans 20-13 on Sunday. After a tied first half at 10-10 the Ravens scored seven in the third quarter and got a seven point win. The Ravens starting quarterback LeMar Jackson rushed for 136 yards, threw for 179 yards, no touchdowns and one interception for the win.

#5 Barbara low scoring game but good enough for the New Orleans Saints who scored three touchdowns in each of the first, third and fourth quarters and were shutout in the second for a 21-9 win in New Orleans. Saints quarterback Drew Brees threw for 265 yards and two touchdowns.

#6 The Cleveland Browns had the lead from start to finish and came away with an 11 point win 48-37. Brown quarterback Baker Mayfield threw for 263 yards and three touchdowns. The Browns pretty much stayed ahead of the Pittsburgh Steelers all game long. This win advances the Browns to the next round of the playoffs and this is second week in a row that the Browns defeated the Steelers.

#1 Jessica were going to take a look at the NFL Playoffs games for this Saturday and Sunday and we’ll start with the red hot Buffalo Bills (13-3) who will be hosting the Indianapolis Colts (11-5). The Bills used two quarterbacks in their last game against Miami Dolphins with Bills starting quarterback Josh Allen 224 yards passing and three touchdowns. Allen should be a force against the Colts this Saturday.

#2 The Seattle Seahawks (12-4) are coming off a win against the San Francisco 49ers 26-23 in Arizona. The Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson threw for 181 yards, two touchdowns against the 49ers. The Seahawks host the Los Angeles Rams (10-6) for this Saturday’s playoff game.

#3 Jessica in the third playoff game scheduled for this Saturday the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (11-5) are in Washington to face Team Washington (7-9). In the Bucs last game they handled the Atlanta Falcons (4-12) with a 44-27 win. How do you see them matching up against Washington as they come in favored.

#4 Sunday playoff games start with Baltimore Ravens (11-5) at the Tennessee Titans (11-5). The Ravens quarterback LeMar Jackson threw for 118 yards and three touchdowns against the Cincinnati Bengals last Sunday 38-3 and the Titans quarterback Ryan Tannehill who help defeat the Houston Texans 41-38 threw for 216 yards and one touchdown.

#5 The Chicago Bears (8-8) will visit the New Orleans Saints (12-4) this Sunday at the Superdome. The Saints made easy work of the Carolina Panthers (5-11) to close out their regular season 33-7 in last Sunday’s game. Quarterback Drew Brees who came off rib injuries threw for 201 yards and three touchdowns. Talk about who you like in the Bears and Saints match up.

#6 To close out the playoff schedule on Sunday Night Football playoffs the Cleveland Browns (11-5) who defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers (12-4) last Sunday 24-22. Frustrations got so heated that the Steelers had some pushing and shoving among teammates. The Steelers who didn’t have starting quarterback Ben Roethlisberger in the line up started Mason Rudolph 315 yards and two touchdowns and Joshua Dobbs came in and threw for two yards. Jessica how do you see the Browns-Steelers this Sunday as they match up for the second consecutive week.

#1  Well-rested coming off a bye and the jet lag from London from October 6th’s game, the Oakland Raiders come into Week 7.

#2 The Raiders are playing their fourth game in as many as five weeks away from Oakland. For most of those games, they had to stay back in the cities they were visiting without returning to Oakland, practice and get ready for the game which made for more focusing and it paid off when they were in London.

#3 After the game with the Chicago Bears, the Raiders for the bye week got to return back to their Alameda facility and workout and practice before setting out to Green Bay for this Sunday’s game at Lambeau Field.

#4 In the game against Chicago, quite a game for Raiders running back Josh Jacobs with 26 carries, 123 yards, and two touchdowns, and for quarterback Derek Carr 25-32 for 229 yards.

#5 The Green Bay Packers are coming off a razor close win over the Detroit Lions in which the Lions’ Trey Flowers was called for hands to the face that sent the ball into the Detroit red zone with the Lions ahead 22-20, but after the penalty and Packers quarterback Aaron Rogers taking two knees, the Packers’ Mason Crosby kicked a 23-yard field goal and the Packers came away with a one-point win, 23-20. Can the Raiders come out at Lambeau and give the Packers a game?

#1 Oakland Raiders linebacker Vontaze Burfict was suspended for the September 30th helmet to helmet hit on Indianapolis Colts tight end Jack Doyle. Was suspending Burfict for the rest of the season going too far for the NFL?

#2 Burfict tried to appeal, but the NFL and the NFL Players upheld the suspension for the entire season.

#3 Raiders head coach Jon Gruden and quarterback Derek Carr both spoke about Burfict at his appeal and said he was a good teammate and he has tried to change from lowering his helmet.

#4 The thing about it is Doyle said Burfict tackled him and he didn’t feel anything, but the league didn’t like the way Burfict came in with his helmet and held up the suspension.

#5 The Raiders have a bye this Sunday and get ready for Green Bay Sunday, October 20th.

Raiders come up with huge win in London 24-21

After seeing the Chicago Bears come all the way back to a take 21-17 lead, the Oakland Raiders showed absolutely no quit in their offense.

Josh Jacobs scored on a two-yard run with just 1:57 remaining in the fourth quarter, helping the Raiders to a 24-21 victory over the Bears at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London.

With the victory, the Raiders have won back-to-back games for the first time since the 2017 season.

After the touchdown, the Bears began to drive the ball down the field, but Chase Daniel, playing quarterback for the Bears for the injured Mitchell Trubisky threw an interception that Gareon Conley snared at the Raiders 23-yard line that gave the ball to the Raiders; however, the Raiders could not run the clock and were forced to give the ball back to the Bears with 20 seconds remaining in the game.

Maurice Hurst came up with the biggest play of the game, as he sacked Daniel to end the game and Raiders swarmed the field in jubilation.

The Raiders got on the scoreboard with just five seconds gone in the second quarter, as Jacobs scored from 12 yards to give the Raiders a 7-0 lead.

It turned out to be a big day for Jacobs, who scored two touchdowns on 26 carries and eclipsed the 100-yard mark for the first time, as he ran 123 yards.

The eventual game-winning drive for the Raiders saw everything, as they started on their own three-yard line, eventually were forced to punt the ball on fourth-and-6; however, the Bears were called for running into the kicker, giving the Raiders a second chance. With a short fourth-and-1, the Raiders took a gamble and faked the punt and got the first down; however, Erik Harris gained three yards to give the Raiders the first down.

Derek Carr came up with a 23-yard completion to Foster Moreau on third-and-1 to extend the drive that ended with Jacobs getting into the end zone for the second time on the afternoon.

Former Raiders linebacker Khalil Mack was held in check by the Raiders offensive line, as he came with a fumble that saw Carr and Jacobs miscommunicate on a pitchout.

That fumble turned into a touchdown, as David Montgomery scored from a yard out to get the Bears on the board.

Daniel got going after Montgomery touchdown, as he then threw two touchdowns to Allen Robinson that gave the Bears a 21-17 lead.

The Raiders drove down to the Bears one-yard line, but Trevor Davis fumbled the ball and the ball was recovered by Prince Amukamara at the Bears own one-yard line.

Luckily, for the Raiders, who were called for a roughing the passer on Hurst, the Bears could not put the game away and the Raiders took over on their own three-yard line and it culminated in the Jacobs two-yard touchdown run in the waning moments.

Carr went 25-for-32 for 229 yards on the evening, as the Raiders go into the bye week on a high note.

Moreau led the Raiders with 46 yards receiving, as he was one of three Raiders to have four catches, as Davis and Darren Waller also caught four passes.

UP NEXT: Following the bye week, the Raiders return to the road, as they will travel to Lambeau Field to face the Green Bay Packers on October 20.

Raiders fly to London for home game against the Bears

The Oakland Raiders, fresh off an impressive win in Indianapolis in Week 4, are off to London where they will host (that’s right, host) the Chicago Bears in Week 5 for the NFL’s first-ever matchup in the new Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Sunday’s game will mark the second-straight year that the Raiders have played in London, and the fifth time in six years playing an international game.

Kickoff for this game is at 10:00 a.m. PT this Sunday, Oct. 6.

The all-time series is tied at seven wins apiece, but the Bears have won the previous matchup between the two teams, 22-20, back in 2015 at Soldier Field.

Last week, the Raiders dispatched the Colts, 31-24, behind a fast start by the offense who jumped out to an early 14-0 lead. Raiders quarterback Derek Carr was terrific, leading Oakland to touchdowns on three of their first four drives of the game.

“We finished our drives, we converted on third downs, we were efficient running the football. Everyone did their job,” Carr said after the win that pulled Oakland to 2-2 on the season. When everyone does their job, we can score points.

Carr was 21 of 31 with 189 yards and two TDs. On the game’s opening drive Carr was sharp, completing 6 of 6 passes for 53 yards and an 18-yard TD to tight end Foster Moreau to give Oakland an early 7-0 lead.

Oakland’s second offensive series of the game ended after wide receiver Trevor Davis ran past the Colts’ defense on the left side for a TD that propelled the Raiders to a 14-0 lead before fans at Lucas Oil Stadium sat down.

Wide receiver Tyrell Williams caught a touchdown for the fourth-straight game this season, a 19-yarder from Carr that gave the Raiders a 21-7 lead.

Oakland’s defense preserved the win late in the fourth quarter.

With the Raiders clinging to a 24-17 lead, safety Erik Harris stepped in front of a Jacoby Brissett pass and returned it for a 30-yard pick-six that gave Oakland a 31-17 lead shortly before the two minute warning.

Harris’ interception was the first takeaway by the Raiders this season.

Chicago (3-1) is coming off a 16-6 victory over their NFC North rivals, the Minnesota Vikings at Solider Field in Week 4.

After starting quarterback Mitchell Trubisky was knocked out of the game on the first possession with a left shoulder injury, backup Chase Daniels would stabilize the Bears’ offense over the Vikings’ defense.

Daniels threw for 195 yards and a touchdown while completing 22 of 30 passes. With Trubisky most likely out for Sunday’s game, expect Daniels to get the start against the Silver and Black.

But the real calling card for Chicago has been its defense, which has made life difficult for opposing teams this season.

Through four games, Chicago is the fifth-ranked defense in the NFL, surrendering just 290.8 yards per game, but rank second in total points allowed (45), points per game (11.3), and sacks (17.0).

Former Raiders linebacker/defensive end Khalil Mack leads Chicago with 4.5 sacks.

Mack who was traded to Chicago from Oakland before the start of last season, told NFL Network’s Deion Sanders following Chicago’s win over Minnesota that he’s looking forward to the matchup against his former team.

“That’s the one I’m looking forward to,” Mack told Sanders. “I can’t lie to you, man. It’s going to to be a big one.”

Vikings running back Dalvin Cook, who came into Sunday’s contest with an NFL-leading 375 yards rushing through four games, was held to just 35 yards on 14 carries.

The Bears lived in Minnesota’s backfield all day, sacking quarterback Kirk Cousins six times in the game.

Following Sunday’s game, both teams will enter their bye weeks before Oakland travels to Green Bay to face the Packers, and the Bears taking on the New Orleans Saints at home in Week 7 respectively.

In the midst of their road trip, the Oakland Raiders road swing headed to Americas Heartland, Indianapolis, Indiana.

Derek Carr went 21-for-31 for 189 yards and 189, helping the Raiders break their two-game losing streak with a 31-24 victory over the Indianapolis Colts at Lucas Oil Stadium.

Carr took the Raiders down the field on their first series of the game, as he threw an 18-yard touchdown pass to Foster Moreau that ended a 16-play 75-yard drive to give the Raiders an early 7-0 lead.

After the Colts were forced were forced to punt after going three-and-out on their first series of the drive, Trevor Davis quickly made it 14-0, when he took a Carr handoff and scampered 60 yards to the end zone just 10 seconds after taking the punt to the Raiders 40-yard line.

Jacoby Brissett, who was forced into the Colts number 1 position at quarterback when Andrew Luck abruptly retired during the preseason cut the Raiders down to 14-7, as he found tight end Jack Doyle for a five-yard touchdown pass.

Despite the loss, Brissett went 24-for-46 for 265 yards, throwing three touchdowns and was intercepted once.

After the Brissett to Doyle connection for a touchdown, Carr once again gave the Raiders a 14-point lead, as he found Tyrell Williams for a 19-yard touchdown pass.

Veteran Adam Vinatieri then cut the Raiders lead to 21-10 nearly half way thru the second quarter, as he connected for a 26-yard field goal.

On their first series of the third quarter, Daniel Carlson kicked a 26-yard field goal to give the Raiders a 14-point lead for the third time on the afternoon.

Like before, the Raiders, could not put the Colts away, as Brissett found Chester Rogers for a four-yard touchdown pass to cut the Raiders down to seven once again.

It looked like the Raiders put the game away, when Erik Harris picked off a Brissett pass and returned it 30 yards for a touchdown with just 2:09 remaining in the game.

Unfortunately for the Raiders, that was not the case, as Eric Ebron caught a 48-yard touchdown pass from Brissett with 70 seconds in the game.

Following a failed onside kick, Carr kneeled to end the game and the Raiders escaped with a seven-point victory.

Rookie Josh Jacobs led the Raiders in rushing with 79 yards rushing on 17 carries.

NOTES: Vontez Burfict was ejected from the second quarter, as he was called for unnecessary roughness for a helmet-to-helmet hit on Doyle. Burficts ejection came after the officials reviewed the penalty.

UP NEXT: Even though it is a home game for the Raiders, the game will be played in London, as the Raiders will face the Chicago Bears and former teammate Khalil Mack on October 6.

#2 The San Francisco 49ers reached a deal with kicker Robbie Gould on Monday. Gould said he wanted to leave San Francisco to play for the Chicago Bears when he realized that dream couldn’t be fulfilled, so he signed a deal with San Francisco for four years at $19 million.

#3 New York Yankees reliever Luis Severino is ready to come back to relieve or start. Severino said he’s happy in either role.

#4 In baseball Monday night, the San Francisco Giants in the first game of a doubleheader crushed the Colorado Rockies 19-2. Giants shortstop Brandon Crawford went 5-6 with two home runs.

#1 Former Chicago Bears kicker Kevin Butler has warned San Francisco 49ers kicker Robbie Gould to be careful what you wish for in Gould not reporting to practice for the 49ers. He has asked for the team to release him so he could kick for the Chicago Bears and be closer to his home in Chicago. The 49ers refuse and have told Gould they are holding him to his contract. Butler said that going back to Chicago a second time doesn’t guarantee success.

#2 Cleveland Indians pitcher Cory Kluber took a line drive off his forearm on Wednesday night and broke his forearm. The Miami Marlins’ Brian Anderson hit a line drive that Kluber tried to block and ended up using his glove hand to scoop throw the ball to first, but it too late. Kluber has an ERA of 5.81.

#3 Omaha Beach has been scratched from the Kentucky Derby because of breathing problems. Omaha Beach developed a cough and breathing problems and a medical team said that Omaha Beach will need corrective surgery and the surgery is not life-threatening or career-ending. The new favorite for the Kentucky Derby is now Roadster (6-1) with Improbable (6-1) just behind.

#4 The Portland Trail Blazers’ Damian Lillard didn’t set the world on fire against the Denver Nuggets on Wednesday night, but his teammates came through to help for the 97-90 win. The Blazers’ C.J. McCollum led with 20 points and Lilliard finished with 15 points. With the win, the Blazers tie the series 1-1.

#5 It was reported by Yahoo Sports that Palm Beach Florida police issued a fake bomb threat in order to install cameras at the spa which New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft would be recorded receiving sexual favors at Orchids of Asia Day Spa in Jupiter, Florida. Kraft’s lawyers said that the video was obtained by illegally installing the cameras. A masseuse has been arrested in connection with the case.
