NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs podcast with Joe Lami: Blues look to even series, but Sharks look to move two games up tonight

On the NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs podcast with Joe Lami:

#1 Joe explain the overtime goal from San Jose Sharks’ Erik Karlsson that got guided in from teammate Timo Meier with the glove hand to teammate Gustav Nyquist, who stick passed it to Karlsson and shot it past St. Louis Blues goalie Jordan Binnington.

#2 The Sharks got the Wednesday night comeback win from a 4-3 deficit as the Sharks’ Logan Couture scored the tying goal in the third period at 18:59. The Sharks, again, played like their playoff lives depended on it and made a comeback.

#3 Couture also leads NHL playoff leaders in goals with 13 goals and 19 points. He’s having a fine offensive postseason.

#4 The Boston Bruins swept the Carolina Panthers in four games with a 4-0 shutout Thursday night. The Bruins didn’t show any lows at all in the series and have been very consistent throughout the playoffs.

#5 The Bruins now wait for the winner of the St. Louis and San Jose series. Joe tells us who he thinks the Bruins prefer to play in the Stanley Cup Finals.

On the NHL Stanley Cup Eastern Conference Finals:

#1 Six games in the second round of the playoffs, the Boston Bruins won four of out those six games to defeat the  Columbus Blue Jackets. Was this a series that the Bruins from the start an indicator that they would win?

#2 The third round began on Thursday night with the Bruins taking Game 1 of the series against the visiting Carolina Hurricanes 5-3. The Bruins scored early and held the lead. Does scoring early for the B’s often means big problems to their opponents?

#3 The Bruins got two power plays within 28 seconds. Marcus Johansson and Patrice Bergeron scored power play goals.

#4 Bruins forward Charlie Wagner, who contributed with a goal himself, said that the power plays no doubt have made the difference in the B’s Game 1 win by two goals.

#5 Boston’s famous sports bar and grill near TD Waterhouse Garden named Hurricanes had to think of a way to fix their name as the Bruins were facing off against the Hurricanes. The bar cleverly came up with a banner that read “Beat the” over the Hurricanes sign above the restaurant awning.

NHL Stanley Cup Conference Finals podcast with Joe Lami: Sharks’ DeBoer didn’t underestimate Avs; Bruins getting it done on the power play

On the NHL Stanley Cup Conference Finals with Joe Lami:

San Jose Sharks head coach Peter DeBoer, after things settled down after the Sharks’ Game 7 victory on Wednesday night against the Colorado Avalanche, said the Avalanche were a team that handled a tough Calgary Flames team and got through them in the first round and it gave him some concern having to face Colorado.

While it gave DeBoer pause, he said he was proud of the job that the Sharks did in taking the second round against the Avalanche. Winning the second series without team captain Joe Pavelski, how both Brent Burns and Erki Karlsson both contributed with strong offensive performances. Burns and teammate Tomas Hertl combined with nine goals and 14 points.

The Boston Bruins held it together on Thursday night in Game 1 of the third round with a three goal win 5-3 over the Carolina Hurricanes, mostly because of the power play. The Bruins’ Marcus Johansson and Patrice Bergeron scored power play goals in 28 seconds. The Boston Bruins forward Charlie Wagner commented on the NHL Network that the Bruins took advantage of the power play, getting that huge 5-4 advantage gets them in their other end and they found their way to the back end of the net.

The Bruins, with their 5-3 win and having a 1-0 series lead, go to Game 2 on Sunday and the Bruins feel good to be on their home ice for this second game. Joe says the Bruins the huge favorite to take this series in five or six games.

#1 With the San Jose Sharks Joe Pavelski skating on Wednesday and wearing full head gear with mouth protector, how soon is he expected to come back?

#2 The Sharks’ Erik Karlsson has skated much better. He has four shots against Colorado in 25:24, which is much better than he shot against Vegas in the first round.

#3 Carolina Hurricanes goals from Teuvo Teravainen and Greg McKegg got the New York Islanders goalie pulled. The Canes goalie Curtis McElhinney stoppd 26 shots — that’s his second best of his postseason career. Carolina picked up a 5-2 win to sweep the New York Islanders in four games.

#4 The Dallas Stars’ Jason Spezza picked up a crucial goal and Stars goalie Ben Bishop stopped 38 shots in the Stars’ 2-1 win over the Blues to take a 3-2 series lead.

#5 Columbus and Boston are tied in their series 2-2 and a crucial Game 5 is tonight in Boston. Matt tells us his expectations in this one.

#1 Joe takes a look at San Jose Sharks Joe Pavelski, who will not play in Game 1 on Friday night, after getting cross-checked and knocked out in Game 7, against the Colorado Avalanche. Pavelski had his teeth knocked out in game one to start the series. How soon do the Sharks expect Pavelski to return?

#2 The Dallas Stars and St. Louis Blues opened up their series on Thursday night. The Blues took the first game 3-2 on home ice with goals from Robby Frabbri, and two goals from Vladimir Tarasenko — one in the second period and one in the third.

#3 The Boston Bruins got a 3-2 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets in Game 1 of the second round. The Bruins’ Noel Acciari, and talk about Charlie Coyle, a goal that help tie the game at 2-2 in the third period and Coyle got the game-winner in overtime.

#4 The Carolina Hurricanes and New York Islanders face off tonight for game one in the second round. The Hurricanes are coming off a 4-3 series win over the Washington Capitals, which is not an easy task knocking out the champs. The Islanders got a 4-0 sweep over the Pittsburgh Penguins in round one.
