World Series MLB The Show podcast with Augie Messenburg: Garcia and Rangers showing why their in Fall Classic

Adolis Garcia of the Texas Rangers slugged a game winning home run in the 11th inning at Globe Life Field in Arlington on Sat Oct 28, 2023 (AP News photo)

On the World Series The Show podcast:

#1 Augie there is very little doubt the Texas Rangers are a tough customer the way they defeated the Houston Astros in the ALCS and they went to the mat with the Arizona Diamondbacks in game 1 of the World Series.

#2 The Rangers are close again Augie they got the World Series twice under manager Ron Washington but couldn’t seal the deal. Under manger Bruce Bochy who has won the World Series three times could he pull it off for the Rangers this year?

#3 Talk about how important Adolis Garcia means to the Rangers in this post season. He didn’t take any guff in the ALCS against the Astros when he got plunked with a Bryan Abreu pitch and in game 1 of this World Series he got the game winning home run in the 11th inning he’s been key for the Rangers.

#4 The Diamondbacks are a battling team they became that way toward the end of the season and they were almost unbeatable. Seeing how the D-Backs have been towards the end of the season and in the post season they could be a match for the Rangers in this World Series.

#5 Talk about today’s starting pitchers for the Diamondbacks Merrill Kelly (2-1 ERA 2.65) going for the Texas Rangers Jordan Montgomery (3-0 ERA 2.16) for game 2.

On the MLB The Show Post Season podcast with Augie Messenburg:

#1 This American League Championship Series has been a nail biter and a foot race between the Texas Rangers and the Houston Astros. It’s been about visiting teams winning in their opponents ballparks and both team literally fighting to get by.

#2 With the Astros holding a 3-2 lead going into game 6 the Rangers at Minute Maid Field came away with a seven run 9-2 win in game six tying the series 3-3.

#3 Nathan Eovaldi pitched 6.1 innings, giving up five hits and two earned runs and the Rangers got home run help from Mitch Garver and Jonah Heim who hit for a home run early in the game and it was Adolis Garcia who hit a ninth inning grand slam to put it out of reach.

#4 The Rangers are going with Mad Max in game 7 Max Scherzer. Scherzer pitched game 7 in the 2019 World Series so he know about pitching in big games like the one tonight.

#5 The San Diego Padres granted permission to manager Bob Melvin to interview for the vacant San Francisco Giants managing job. Melvin was assured to have his Padres job but asked Padres management about interviewing for the Giants job which was granted. Melvin is considered to be the top contender to win the job as the new Giants manager.

MLB The Show podcast with Charlie O: Rangers Seager out with right thumb sprain; Dodgers Kershaw recovering from shoulder injury; plus more news

Texas Rangers Corey Seager is on the 10 day IL suffering from a right thumb injury and had an MRI (AP News photo)

On the MLB The Show podcast with Charlie O:

#1 Charlie, the Texas Rangers have put shortstop Corey Seager on the 10 day IL due to a right thumb sprain. Seager came up with the injury on Friday against the Los Angeles Dodgers an MRI showed no structural damage.

#2 Charlie, the Dodgers really miss pitcher Clayton Kershaw he’s been out since Jun 27. Saturday Kershaw threw 40 pitches in a bullpen session and is expected to another one on Monday this time facing live hitting. Manager Dave Roberts said Kershaw looked “well” and said it’s a step by step situation on getting Kershaw to return. Kershaw has been going through left shoulder soreness.

#3 The Texas Rangers who had five starters at the All Star Game in Seattle in the middle of this month had right fielder Adolis Garcia out got hit in his right hand by Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Bobby Miller. Garcia leads the American League with 80 RBIs so there is little doubt that they’ll miss his bat if he is out for a length of time. X-Rays showed negative on his hand but Garcia is still being evaluated by team physicians.

#4 Charlie, tough break for the St Louis Cardinals Wilson Contreras who left Saturday’s game with a hip injury. Contreras slugged for two RBIs when he hit a double in the fifth inning against his former team the Dodgers. Contreras has to leave the game in the sixth inning and was replaced by Ivan Herrera.

#5 The Nevada teachers are serious Charlie they are in their third week of gathering petitions to stop the use of the $380 million in public money for the A’s new Tropicana ballpark and want to put public monies towards education. Nevada is 49th in education and the educators and teachers are looking for support from the voters. Charlie this might be Oakland’s last chance to keep the team in Oakland if the Nevada educators get enough signatures and pass the referendum to stop public money being spent on the Tropicana ballpark.

The wait was finally over as the 2023 MLB All-Star Game was underway at T-Mobile Park on Tuesday.
The National League defeated the American League 3-2 for the first time since 2012. Elías Díaz delivered the game-winning home run in the eighth inning. Díaz earned the All-Star Game MVP.

The NL’s starting lineup featured Ronald Acuña Jr., Freddie Freeman, Mookie Betts, J.D. Martinez, Nolan Arenado, Luis Arráez, Sean Murphy, Corbin Carroll, and Orlando Arcia.

After a scoreless first inning, Yandy Díaz hit a solo home run to give the AL a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning.

J.D. Martinez helped the NL tie the game 1-1 in the top of the fourth inning. Martinez scored on a Luis Arráez RBI single.

The AL regained their lead in the bottom of the sixth inning. Salvador Pérez singled for a 2-1 lead. Pérez now has three All-Star Game hits — the second-most by a Kansas City Royals player.

MLB The Show podcast with Charlie O: More All Stars sidelined by injuries; Rangers first team to have 5 starters in 47 years at All Star Game; plus more

The Chicago Cubs Dansby Swanson trots back into the Cubs dugout after connecting for a third inning home run against the Milwaukee Brewers at American Family Park in Milwaukee Tue Jul 4, 2023. The Cubs announced this week that Swanson has gone on the 10 day IL and will miss the All Star Game (AP News photo)

On the MLB The Show podcast with Charlie O:

#1 As of last week the walking wounded list for the All Star Game is adding up, the Los Angeles Angels pitcher Shohei Ohtani will not pitch due to finger blister, Angels Mike Trout will sit out due to a fractured left wrist and will not attend the All Star game, New York Yankee outfielder Aaron Judge toe injury, and the Chicago Cubs announced that shortstop Dansby Swanson will also sit out the mid summer classic due to a left heel contusion which forced Swanson to leave Wednesday’s against the Milwaukee Brewers, Swanson is on the 10 day IL.

#2 This year’s All Star game in Seattle will look like the Texas Rangers will be playing host they have added outfielder Adolis Garcia making the Rangers the first team in 47 years to have five starters representing the same team at the All Star game. Other Rangers starting catcher Jonah Heim, second baseman Marcus Semien, shortstop Corey Seagar, and third baseman Josh Jung.

#3 Former San Francisco Giants Carlos Rodon and current New York Yankee pitcher made his Yankee debut on Saturday but was outpitched by the Chicago Cubs Jameson Tallion in a 3-0 Cubs shutout. Rodon has been out due to a sore left forearm and Rodon had been out since spring training. Tallion went eight innings giving up one hit and Rodon went 5.1 innings, giving up four hits and two runs.

#4 The Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder Andrew McCutchen and third baseman K’Bryan Hayes were placed on the 10 day IL. McCutchen is retroactive with right elbow inflammation, Hayes as of last Thursday is suffering from back inflammation. Charlie Pirates are 8.5 games back in the NL Central to get back in the hunt they’re going to miss these guys.

#5 Charlie, Major League Commissioner Rob Manfred said in early June that the owners will take a vote on the Oakland A’s relocation in Vegas. Then came the Nevada State Legislature who voted in a second special session to use public funding to pay for the Tropicana ballpark which passed. The first week of July is concluding and heading into the second week of July and still the owners have not taken a vote. Is that an indication that the jury is still out and the owners are haggling over A’s to Vegas relocation issue?
