The San Jose Sharks lost their season opener 4-3 to the Vegas Golden Knights Thursday. Brett Howden, Pavel Dorofeyev, Jack Eichel and Reilly Smith scored for the Golden Knights. Akira Schmid made 20 saves for the win. Jeff Skinner, Alexander Wennberg and Phillip Kurashev scored for the Sharks. Alex Nedeljkovic made 27 saves in the loss.
The Sharks scored first, a goal from Jeff Skinner at 5:31. Skinner batted the puck in off of a high rebound that he created with a shot off the goalie’s pad. Assists went to Ty Dellandrea and Shakir Mukhamadullin.
Vegas tied it at 8:09 with a wrist shot from Brett Howden. Howden picked up the puck near the blue line, off of a failed clear by the Sharks. Howden carried the puck in through traffic and across in front of the blue paint before taking his shot. Assists went to Keegan Kolesar and Ben Hutton.
Mukhamadullin took the only penalty of the first period, high-sticking against Jack Eichel. The Sharks killed that off. The shots were 10-9 Vegas after the first period.
Alexander Wennberg gave the Sharks a 2-1 during a five-on-three power play at 6:59 of the second period. Wennberg caught a rebound from William Eklund’s shot. An assist also went to John Klingberg.
Vegas responded with their own power play goal at 14:22. Pavel Dorofeyev caught a pass that came across the ice from Mark Stone. Jack Eichel got the secondary assist.
The second period shot count was 11-6 Vegas. The Golden Knights took three penalties in the period and the Sharks took two.
Phillip Kurashev scored for the Sharks to make it 3-2 at 2:59 of the third. Kurashev tipped a shot from Dmitry Orlov. Mukhamadullin picked up the secondary assist, his second of the night.
William Eklund missed two shots on an empty net. Moments later, Jack Eichel’s shot from the blue line slipped by Nedeljkovic’s right skate and tied the game with 94 seconds left in regulation.
The teams each took one penalty in the third period. The shots were also even at 8-8.
The game winner came off of Reilly Smith’s stick after Nedeljkovic came all the way out of the net to play the puck but did not do execute his plan well. It was particularly disappointing because the Sharks goaltender had just made a great stop on a two-on-none. An assist went to Shea Theodore.
The Sharks had no shots in overtime.
The Sharks next play on Saturday against the visiting Anaheim Ducks at 7:00 PM PT.

Super Bowl LX Controversy is not about Football
That’s Amaury News and Commentary
By Amaury Pi Gonzalez
Super Bowl LX will take place at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California, on Sunday, February 8, 2026. There has been considerable criticism, especially on social media, regarding the NFL’s selection of Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, a Puerto Rican rapper, singer, and record producer, as the halftime show entertainer.
He is known as the “King of Latin Trap”. He is better known as “Bad Bunny,” who is credited with helping Spanish-language rap music achieve mainstream popularity. He is 31 years old, born in Bayamón, Puerto Rico.
Currently, the most famous and successful pop music star in the world is Taylor Swift, though she recently clarified she was never formally asked by the NFL to perform at the halftime show. Swift is a billionaire, with Bloomberg estimating her net worth at $2.1 billion as of October 2025, and she is also engaged to K.C. Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce.
So, what about this guy ‘Bad Bunny”? This is all about money. The NFL plays regular-season games in countries including the United Kingdom, Germany, Brazil, and Spain, with future games scheduled for Australia, Canada, and Ireland.
Through the Global Markets Program, NFL teams have been granted international marketing rights to build their fan base in specific countries. The league also leverages global media platforms, including streaming services, to engage fans worldwide.
Bad Bunny has stated his sexuality is fluid; sometimes during his performances, he dresses like a girl, and other times like a man. He is controversial in many ways, but some would say that’s just show business in 2025.
Ultimately, the NFL hired Bad Bunny to make them a lot of money. The NFL is one of the richest and most famous sports leagues in the world. The Super Bowl is not just another sporting event; it is a world event. During a recent appearance on NBC’s SNL, Bad Bunny announced he would be singing in Spanish and joked, “If you didn’t understand what I just said, you have four months to learn.”
The backlash was instant, especially on social media around the world—and mostly here in the United States, where today there is seldom a unified opinion about anything; it is like half the country believes the world is square and the other half believes it is round. (joking, of course).
The fact remains, Bad Bunny seems to thrive on controversy. This past Tuesday, during the seventh-inning stretch, traditional God Bless America at Yankee Stadium, he chose to ‘sit it out’ The only “rap” I know is the wrapping I do with my family at Christmas time, when I ‘rap’ presents, and as a kid, the only Bunny I remember was Bugs Bunny, whose voice was that of Mel Blanc, the legendary voice actor with an iconic Brooklyn and Bronx accent.
So I have never heard Bad Bunny on tape or during a life concert. I like to believe that the overwhelming majority of people are like me, who watch the Super Bowl for the game, not for the halftime show. In 2012, Super Bowl XLVI was considered the first “social media”Super Bowl due to increased marketing efforts and the use of “second screens” by viewers.
My wife enjoys watching the Super Bowl because of the commercials. Most people go to the refrigerator during the halftime show. So, you ask, what about this guy, they called “Bad Bunny”? The story goes that as a child in Puerto Rico, he wore a Bunny costume with an angry face. This inspired him to the concept of “El Conejo Malo,” “The Bad Bunny. And, that’s All, Folks!

DOWNTOWN SACRAMENTO — The new-look Sacramento Kings were in action on Wednesday night for game one of four preseason games the team is slated to play. The Kings fell to the Raptors 130-122 inside Golden 1 Center on a crisp fall evening.
During training camp prior to the preseason, the emphasis was clearly on two things. Doug Christie wants the Kings to be the most well-conditioned team in the NBA, and he wants them to pick up 94 feet. These two things are directly related to the identity that Christie and GM Scott Perry are attempting to implement come the start of the regular season.
Before the game, I asked Doug Christie what goals he had or what he wanted to see from his squad in game one of the preseason.
“I just want to play to our identity. That’s really it,” Christie said. “I mean, if we do that consistently with talent and all those different things that you need, I believe the byproduct of that is winning.”
What is that identity Doug is speaking about? The Kings have said it is centered around six pillars: competitive, tough, team-oriented, disciplined, accountable, and professional.
In the first three quarters, the Kings failed Christie’s expectation to play to the identity he is trying to implement, as they gave up 97 points. The gritty defense and high-motor effort he’s emphasizing were nowhere to be found. Granted, it’s the first game of the preseason, and any critiques should be taken with a grain of salt. Still, it wasn’t an encouraging look for the Kings and their quest to establish their new identity.
Christie didn’t mince words about the team’s effort as it pertained to the identity he’s trying to see.
“Out of that whole game, you probably got Kings identity maybe two quarters, a quarter and a half—I’ll say a quarter and a half. So the consistency of what we expect needs to be able to be at a higher level for a longer period of time.”
Christie also addressed a question from Sactown Sports reporter Brenden Nunes about how he felt the team picked up 94 feet, an emphasis throughout camp.
“… In the first half, they were 30%. So that’s unacceptable,” Doug said. “And we talked about it. Eighty-five is the number. So that means out of all the opportunities that you get when someone turns around with the basketball, they know what you ate for breakfast.”
Zach LaVine led the Kings in scoring in the first half with 15 points but didn’t play the rest of the game. It appeared to be planned rest for LaVine, with nothing physically wrong. The Kings’ leading scorer through the first three quarters was Domantas Sabonis, who had 19 points and four rebounds in nearly 23 minutes on the court. Keegan Murray also caught my attention, displaying a new level of aggression during his time on the floor.
In the fourth quarter, Devin Carter, Isaiah Stevens, Dylan Cardwell, Maxime Raynaud, and Nique Clifford changed the entire tempo of the game. The Kings outscored the Raptors 44-33 in the final quarter as the reserve lineup brought much-needed intensity and effort to the floor. Raynaud didn’t check into the game until the fourth quarter but brought an infectious energy, at one point urging the fans at Golden 1 Center to get loud as the Kings made a last-minute effort to get back into the game.
I asked Doug if some of the chemistry with that last unit was prebuilt from Summer League and how they handled their minutes.
“I mean, I expect that from them. Yeah, a little bit of that [Summer League chemistry] probably… They played Kings basketball. Identity-wise, that’s what you saw and that’s what we expect.”
Domantas Sabonis was impressed with the play of the last unit on the court late in the game.
“They did amazing,” Sabonis told me after the game. “They came, they waited for their turn, they came out, brought the energy, brought the basketball that Doug wants us to play, and props to them. They came out. We, as the starters, should have done our part.”
Maxime Raynaud, even with limited experience at this point in the NBA, said he and the group are holding each other accountable to learn and be better—not just for one quarter, but for the whole game.
“I do think that we managed to keep the score reasonable during that [fourth] quarter, but it’s not about us, not about one quarter. Again, it’s four quarters, as you all know, and we’re a group. We all need to step up to the highest possible level. So in that sense, I think we all have a ton to learn from—young guys, old guys, stars, everything.”
Overall, Doug was firm in his message to the players after the game. He is demanding to see a better effort in what he calls “the fight.”
“I’ve talked to them about—there’s two games every night. There’s the game and there’s the fight. So we got 164 games. Every night, we’re going to win one of ’em. If we win both, we’re doing something… So unfortunately, we lost both of the games tonight. Unacceptable. And that will be, hopefully, the last time that happens. That was my conversation with them.”
The Kings will practice on Thursday before flying to Portland to take on the Trail Blazers on Friday at 7 p.m. PST in Portland, Oregon.
