#1 Major League Baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred said there was not a viable path to stay in Oakland even though it was Oakland A’s owner John Fisher and Manfred’s to remain in the Bay Area.

#2 Daniel, did you find it strange after all the criticism that the Tropicana ballpark got nationwide, that you didn’t hear anyone outside of MLB ownership or the Commissioner’s office say this was a great idea. You have to ask what was the motivating factor for the owners to vote 30-0 to approve the A’s relocation?

#3 A’s president David Kaval said after the vote last week when asked if Fisher is ready to pay his share of the new Las Vegas ballpark. Kaval said that debt and equity would come from the stadium funding legislation.

#4 Kaval also said that the A’s could play their 2025-2027 seasons either at Oracle Park in San Francisco, Las Vegas Ballpark, or at the Oakland Coliseum. Oakland Mayor Sheng Thao the A’s could finish at the Coliseum but they would have to give up their team name and colors and the city would be promised a MLB expansion team.

#5 One motivating factor is Nevada Governor Joe Lombardo saying that Las Vegas is a sports town and having the A’s are an added addition for the Vegas sports scene.

#1 The New Orleans Pelicans (8-7) top scorers from Wednesday night Zion Williams with 25 points and Brandon Ingram with 21 were key in playing catch up with the Sacramento Kings (8-6) after being behind by 14 points.

#2 Pelicans head coach Willie Green said of Williamson and Ingram, “Both of those guys have been working diligently with the coaching staff.”

#3 Later in the game it became nip and tuck with the Kings De’Aaron Fox who scored a basket that got the Kings within three points 115-112

#4 The Pelicans just pulled ahead of the Kings towards the end of the game with a five points win 117-112 and shut the Kings defense down to prevent them from getting within distance of tying the game.

#5 After the Kings six game win streak snapped by the Pelicans last Monday and loosing the second game on Wednesday. Tonight the Kings face Minnesota to take on the Timberwolves. Minnesota has won five of their last six games. Jeremiah how do you see this match up?

Sharks Fall 3-2 in SO to Canadiens; Habs Jlonen scores game winner in sixth round of shootout

The San Jose Sharks fell 3-2 in a shoot out to the Montreal Canadiens Friday at SAP Center in San Jose. Johnathan Kovacevic and Cole Caulfield scored for Montreal. Nick Suzuki and Jesse Ylönen scored in the shootout and Cayden Primeau made 31 saves for the win. Mike Hoffman and William Eklund scored for San Jose, with a shootout goal from Eklund as well. Tomas Hertl assisted on both regulation goals. Mackenzie Blackwood made 22 saves in the loss.

It was just two days ago that the Sharks turned in possibly their worst performance this season, in the 7-1 loss to the Seattle Kraken. After Friday’s game, Head Coach David Quinn said the Sharks “certainly looked a lot more like a hockey team tonight than we did against Seattle.”

For the first time this season, the Sharks out-shot their opponent for a final count of 33-24 Sharks. San Jose forward Tomas Hertl described Friday’s game as “A pretty good hockey game. I don’t think we gave them much but the chances we gave them they just cashed in, you know, so it’s tough because we deserved two points tonight.”

Mike Hoffman scored the first of the game at 5:06 of the second period. William Eklund held the puck behind the net after catching a pass from Tomas Hertl. Eklund found Hoffman drifting to the net for the shot.

Eklund made it 2-0 at 12:30 with a power play goal. Right off the offensive zone face-off, Calen Addison passed the puck to Eklund across the ice for a slap shot into the far side of the net. Assists went to Addison and Hertl.

Johnathan Kovacevic cut the lead to 2-1 at 18:02 of the second. His wrist shot from high in the slot went over Blackwood’s outstretched right arm and into the net. Assists went to Jayden Struble and Cole Caufield.

Caufield tied the game 3:26 into the third period. Skating into the zone two-on-one with Christian Dvorak against Nikita Okhotiuk, Caufield opted for the shot and found the top corner. Assists went to Juraj Slafkovsky and goaltender Cayden Primeau.

The Sharks had three shots to the Canadiens’ two shots in the overtime frame. In the shootout, Primeau stopped shots from Fabian Zetterlund, Mike Hoffman, Mikael Granlund. Tomas Hertl and Anthoney Duclair. Blackwood stopped shots from Cole Caufield, Juraj Slafkovsky, Christian Dvorak and Sean Monahan.

With forward Nico Sturm back in the lineup, the Sharks only used seven defensemen. Filip Zadina left the game at the end of the first period, leaving the team with just ten forwards. Regarding Zadina’s injury, Quinn said: “Upper body injury, so not sure where he stands right now.” The injury did not seem to be a result of a specific event in the first period. Quinn said it was “just something that’s been bothering him and it just acted up.”

The Sharks were bested again in the face-off circle, winning just 43.8% of the draws. The penalties were low in the game, with just two penalties called on each team. The Sharks scored the only power play goal.

The Sharks next play Saturday night at 7:00 PM PT in San Jose against the Vancouver Canucks.

#1 Joe, talk about San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey’s first half which pretty much single handedly took the Seattle Seahawks out of their game.

#2 McCaffrey rushed for 114 yards and two touchdowns there was very little doubt that the offensive game plan was for McCaffrey to carry the ball.

#3 McCaffrey’s were running game was impressive how he was able to break some arm tackles on Thursday Night Football.

#4 Deebo Samuel ran for a two yard carry touchdown and quarterback Brock Purdy going 21-30 for 209 yards, one touchdown and threw just one interception.

#5 The 49ers have now won three in a row and head to Philadelphia to face the Eagles at Lincoln Financial Field. The Eagles have a four game win streak going, quarterback Jalen Hurts has been throwing some good football could this be close battle on Sun Dec 3?

49ers offense feasts on Seahawks in 31-13 win on Thanksgiving night

Seahawk and touchdowns were served on Thanksgiving in the Pacific Northwest.

In front of a national audience, the San Francisco 49ers were in a festival mood after dominating the Seattle Seahawks in a 31-13 blowout win on Thanksgiving evening at Lumen Field.

San Francisco opened up a two-game lead on their NFC West division rival with its third win in a row. They jumped up to second in the NFC with the Detroit Lions loss to the Green Bay Packers earlier on in the day. Seattle’s hopes of winning the division were shot down with its second loss in a row and three out of its last four games.

It was a steady serving of Christian McCaffery for the 49ers. The all-pro running back rushed for 114 yards on 19 carries and two touchdowns. McCaffery also had five catches for 25 yards.

San Francisco (8-3) scored on its opening drive. McCaffery had the big play with a run of 27 yards. Deebo Samuel finished off the nine play 75-yard drive with a two-yard end around rushing touchdown as Seattle won the coin toss but elected to receive the second half kickoff.

McCaffery scored his first touchdown early in the second quarter when he powered his way through for a one-yard touchdown. Then he scored his second touchdown with 5:11 remaining in the second quarter when he scampered in from eight yards out after breaking a couple of tackles to complete an eight play 58-yard drive to give the 49ers a 21-3 lead.

McCaffery has 11 rushing touchdowns on the season and is tied for the league lead with former 49ers running back Raheem Mostert. His 939 rushing yards currently leads the NFL.

“I think anytime you’re behind this offensive line you have to have a lot of trust and patience,” said McCaffery on his second rushing touchdown. “They did such a great job all day. The tight ends blocked well. Juice (Kyle Juszczyk) always blocks well. I mean these guys work so hard in the run game. So, you just got to trust it and stay on your landmarks. You never know when the hole can open (up)”.

San Francisco took advantage of a special team’s turnover late in the first half. DeeJay Dallas muffed a punt when he took his off the ball. The ball was recovered by Ronnie Bell at the Seattle 22-yard line. The 49ers converted the gift into three points with a Jake Moody 32-yard field goal for a comfortable 24-3 lead at halftime.

“We needed to start faster. We gotta play complimentary football that’s just how it is. You can’t spot them 24 points in the first half. At the end of the day, we gotta be better,” Seattle safety Quandre Diggs said.

Seattle (6-5) changed the momentum of them game to start the second half when Jordyn Brooks intercepted Brock Purdy and returned it 12-yards for a pick six.

After a three and out by the Seahawk defense, Geno Smith marched Seattle down the field on a 14 play 78-yard drive. However, the 49ers defense held its ground as the drive stalled out at their 23-yard line. The home team settled for a Jason Meyers 30-yard field goal.

San Francisco’s defense shutout Seattle in the fourth quarter as they front line put pressure on Smith and sacked him twice. They also made back-to-back short yardage stands when Seattle run the ball unsuccessfully on 3rd and 1 and 4th and 1 as Seattle turned the ball over on downs late in the fourth quarter.

“The way the defense played tonight was unbelievable. They kept them out of the endzone the whole game and had six sacks. I thought the way our corners played on the outside was a real impressive game, really excited to watch it,” head coach Kyle Shanahan said.

Nick Bosa had two sacks and Javon Hargrave had 1.5 sacks as the front four dominated the trenches in the second half. Ambry Thomas chipped in with an interception and Charvarius Ward had an impressive game pass defending the deep ball against DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett.

Purdy iced the game for San Francisco when he connected with Brandon Aiuyk for a 28-yard touchdown reception with 7:51 remaining in the game.

Purdy finished 21 of 30 for 209 yards to go with his one touchdown and interception. Samuel led all receivers with seven catches in 79 yards. Elijah Mitchell chipped in with 39 yards on seven carries.

It was a long night for Smith, who was dealing with an elbow injury he suffered this past Sunday against the Los Angeles Rams, as he was 18 of 27 for 180 yards with one interception and was sacked a total of six times. Zach Charbonnet, who was the lead back in place of injured Kenneth Walker III, led the Seahawks in rushing with 47 yards on 14 carries. Jaxon Smith-Njigba chipped in with two catches for 41 yards.

Numerous 49er players enjoyed turkey on the field during the postgame interview on NBC. It has become tradition for the members of the winning team to celebrate a win with food.

GAME NOTES: San Francisco finished 5-for-11 on third down conversions. Seattle was 3-for-11.

UP NEXT: San Francisco take on the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday 12/3 at 1:25pm at Lincoln Financial Field.

Michigan holds off Cardinal 83-78 at Battle 4 Atlantis

Stanford dropped its second straight game in the Battle 4 Atlantis men’s basketball tournament, as Michigan held off the Cardinal 83-78 on Thanksgiving Day at the Atlantis Resort in Paradise Island, The Bahamas.

The Cardinal concludes its tournament play on Friday against Northern Iowa. Tipoff is 5:30 p.m. Pacific.

Stanford (3-3) opened the game with a 23-9 lead in the first 7:29 of the first half. Trailing by one point at halftime, Stanford used an eight-point run, completed with a layup by Michael Jones, to take a 52-45 lead at 18:37 of the second half.

Nimari Burnett’s jumper tied the game for Michigan at 52-52 at 16:46, and a dunk by Tarris Reed Jr. capped the Wolverines’ 11-0 run to surge ahead 58-52.

Michigan (4-2) built a 67-54 lead at 12:24, Over the next five minutes, the Cardinal cut their deficit to three on a jumper in the paint by Maxime Raynaud, pulling Stanford to within 68-65.

Angel Brayden’s layup closed Michigan’s lead to 70-69, and a Jared Bynum 3-pointer tied the game at 72-72 with 4:43 remaining. Michigan responded with a seven-point run that was halted with Bynum hit another 3 with 25 seconds to play, cutting the Wolverines’ lead to 79-75.

Free throw shooting by Dug McDaniel and Terrance Williams II put the Wolverines back up by eight at 83-75 with 13 seconds remaining. A layup and free throw by Bynum ended the scoring.

Bynum was 8 of 17 shooting – 5 of 8 behind the arc – for a game-high 22 points to go with six assists. Jones was next with 16 points, including four treys. Reynaud had 14 points and a team-leading eight rebounds, and Angel finished with 11 points.

McDaniel led the Wolverines with 20 points and eight assists, followed by Williams II with 17, Oliver Nkamhoua with 16, Reed with 11 and Burnett with 10.

On the NHL podcast with Len Shapiro:

#1 Jack Eichel got the game winning goal in overtime for the Vegas Golden Knights at 1:57 in the overtime stanza to defeat the Dallas Stars 2-1.

#2 Dallas goaltender Jake Oettinger as quick as he could stop the shot watched go past for the game winner by Eichel. Oettinger was sprawled out to the right of the net and Eichel was able to score the game winner.

#3 New York Rangers goaltender Jonathan Quick stopped 32 shots and picked up his 60th career shutout. The Rangers defeated the Pittsburgh Penguins in Pittsburgh 1-0.

#4 Short handed goals are tough to find your down a man and going up ice with a four on five and not only did St Louis Blues pulled off scoring two short handed goals. At 4:13 left in the game Kevin Hayes scored the game winning goal and helped the Blues catch up on the Arizona Coyotes for the win 6-5.

#5 The Nashville Predators continue to find ways to win as they defeated Calgary Flames. It was the third straight win for the Predators. Juuse Saros stopped 24 shots in the 4-2 win against the Calgary Flames at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville.

On the Warriors podcast with Jerry F:

#1 The Phoenix Suns Kevin Durant showed his old teammates over at Golden State how it’s done leading the Suns with 32 points and had the hot hand in his shot selection.

#2 Jerry, Durant also grabbed eight rebounds two assists. The Suns took advantage of Durant’s offense and the Warriors were once again frustrated.

#3 The Warriors Chris Paul was given one technical with just 32.2 seconds left in the first half for a lengthy discussion with official Scott Foster. After Foster started to walk away from Paul, Paul continued to jaw with Foster and picked up another technical and was ejected.

#4 There was more Paul went after Foster and Warrior teammates had to get between Foster and Paul before something worse was going to go down.

#5 The Warriors have now lost five out of their last six games. The Warriors host the San Antonio Spurs at Chase Center on Friday night for a 7:00pm tip. The Spurs are a current four game losing streak and hope to end the streak in San Francisco. How do you see this match up Friday night.

Cal Falls Flat Unable To Close Against Tulane Losing 84-81

Despite having a double digit lead mid-way through the second half, the California Bears (2-4) managed to let another game slip away. The Bears took on the Tulane Green Wave (4-1) in the consolation round of the SoCal challenge Wednesday night losing by the score of 84-81. This was the Bears third loss in a row losing by three points.

Wednesday night the Bears played the Tulane in the SoCal Challenge Consolation game. The Bears couldn’t rebound after a heart-breaking buzzer beater by UTEP Monday night stealing the game from California. The Green Wave suffered an equally crushing three point loss to Bradley 80-77. The Bears Jaylon Tyson is their season leader with 18.8 points per game. Kevin Cross is the season leader for Tulane with 18 points per game.

Game recap: The Bears are 2-0 against the Green Wave all-time. California has now had two losses in a row by exactly three points. They are having trouble finishing games. Tulane is favored in this game expected to win by 5.5 points.

After the first half of play the favored Green Wave trailed the Cal Bears 32-29. This will be a challenge for Cal in the second half as they attempt to retain the lead and close the game out. With so much time left in the game, California needed to keep the pressure on Tulane. The Bears had led by as much as seven points but Tulane began to push back in the final minutes of the first half.

Cal extended their lead to start the second half hitting a three and taking a 35-29 lead. As the second half wore on, the Bears began to wear the Green Wave down taking a 58-47 lead at 12:11 left in the game.

Tulane refused to back down and with 9:17 left in the game they had pulled to within four points of Cal 63-59. At 6:40, this game was tied at 67 and once again Cal was letting this game slip away, their 11 point lead evaporating.

With five minutes left in the game Tulane took a 70-69 lead. The Bears were trailing by two points with 45 seconds left on the clock and California had the chance to salvage this game. Once again, the Bears were unable to close out this game losing 84-81. This was Cal’s third three point loss

Next Saturday, Nov 25 the Bears will take on San Diego State. The Aztecs are highly favored in this game. San Diego’s season leader is Jaedon LeDee who averages 26.8 points per game and will be a huge factor in the offense. Tipoff for the game is scheduled for 4:00 PM

Suns hold off a Warrior fourth quarter rally to win 123-115

The Golden State Warriors (7-9) were in Phoenix to take on the Phoenix Suns (9-6) Wednesday night. The Warriors snapped a six-game losing streak Monday night and hoped to get their second win in a row. The Suns had other thoughts. It was a strange game.

The Warriors won the first and fourth quarters. The teams tied in the third quarter. What happened in the second quarter won the game for the Suns. The Suns’ defense held the Warriors to 16 points. Phoenix put 37 points on the board and put the Warriors in a deep hole.

Other things that happened in the second quarter led to the Warriors losing the game. The Warriors committed nine turnovers and too many fouls, and with 23 seconds left in the first half, Paul fouled Kevin Durant. Paul complained to referee Scott Foster.

Paul and Foster have a long history, and when Paul said something Foster didn’t like, Foster tagged Paul with two technical fouls. In Addition, Warriors head coach, Steve Kerr, was tagged with a technical. Devin Booker made three free throws. Durant made his two for a five-point play. The Suns finished the second quarter on a 23-5 run to lead by sixteen at the end of the first half. 63-47.

The Warriors needed to find a way to get back into the game. With Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Andrew Wiggins on the floor to start the third quarter, the Warriors were hoping to go on a run to get back into the game. Things did not go well for the Warriors.

The Suns’ defense bottled up Curry. Kevin Durant and Devin Booker led the Suns’ offense. The Suns increased the lead to 23, 83-60. Kerr decided to let his second unit play. The youngsters performed well. At the end of the period, the bench chopped off seven points from the Phoenix lead to trail by 16, 91-75

16-point deficits going into the fourth quarter can be overcome. If the team gets hot and the defense makes stops, the team could pull out a win. The defense of the Warriors had to stop Durant, Booker, Grayson Allen, Nassir Little, and Josh Okogie. The Warriors came close to pulling off the upset.

Moses Moody, Dario Saric, Cory Joseph, and Brandin Podzienic put on a show for Coach Kerr. The Warriors closed to within three points, 118-115. Time was not on the Warriors side. There were only 19 seconds left in the game. To get possession of the ball, they had to foul. Booker and Durant went to the free-throw line and iced the game for Phoenix. 123-115 was the final score in favor of the Suns.

Game Notes: The Warriors have lost seven of the last eight games, and their record falls to 7-9. The Suns improved to 9-6. 

The Warriors were without Draymond Green and Gary Payton II. Green has one more game left on his five-game suspension. Payton has a sprained ankle and is unsure when he will return. The Suns’ Bradley Beal was out with back issues.

The Warriors lost the game at the free-throw line. The Suns made 44 free throws in 52 tries. The Warriors made 19. That 25-point difference was sufficient to win the game for Phoenix. The Suns scored 27 points off turnovers. The Warriors had 17. Add that two-point differential, and the Warriors gave the Suns 35 points. 

The Warriors took 90 shots compared to the Suns’ 76. Thompson led the Warriors with 23 points. Curry was held to 16. Other double-figured players were Dario Saric with 17, Wiggins with 11, and Podziemic with ten. 

Durant finished the night with 32 points. Booker had a double-double with 25 points and ten assists. Josh Okogie helped put a blanket on Curry’s offensive efforts. Okogie finished with 12 points.

The Warriors return home to Chase Center Frida night to play an in-season tournament game against the San Antonio Spurs. The fans will see the rookie sensation Victor Wembanyama for the first time. The game will start at 7 p.m.
