That’s Amaury’s Podcast, News and Commentary: Orioles Adam Jones says in baseball he or anyone can’t protest the anthem like in football

AP photo: Baltimore Orioles Adam Jones signs autographs for fans before playing the Detroit Tigers last Friday night at Comerica Park

On That’s Amaury’s Podcast, unlike in Major League Baseball the NFL has the most African American players out there and the Baltimore Orioles Adam Jones had his right whatever he wants to do it’s his right as an American. I said in previous editorials and it’s my point of view you can demonstrate in this country and you could disagree. Some people say it’s going to rain today and some people say it’s going to be sunny.

You can disagree on anything but there are two things in this country we should respect the national anthem and the flag. If we cannot respect those things then were in bad shape. Because we have all the rights in the world. These athletes they have the podium, they have the fame and they have a news conference and they say their taking up this cause for this and that. Jones has his right to express his feelings.

snipeview.com: Amaury Pi Gonzalez center joined by his broadcast partners from the Oakland A’s Manolo Hernandez( left) and from the Los Angeles Angels TV Jose Mota (right)

On That’s Amaury’s podcast, Amaury is humbled by being selected for the American Sportscaster’s Association. San Francisco Giants broadcaster Jon Miller is vice president of the Association there are lot of heavy hitters Hall of Famers involved on the ASA advisory board, Bob Costas, Jim Nance, Dick Enberg, Jaime Jareem, also Fela Ramirez. Amaury said it was an honor for him to be named to such a postion with the ASA.

There’s a great group of guys who work in our industry and Amaury’s been a member of the Association a long time and some of the other guys like Jareem with the Los Angeles Dodgers who’ve been broadcasting for a long time and the Miami Marlins Fela Ramirez. Amaury said upon learning of the honor “I was humbled and very glad to be part of that great group out of New York.”

Also on That’s Amaury’s podcast: Will the Colin Kaepernick’s Star Spangled Sit Down take a life of it’s own, the Seattle Seahawks corner Jeremy Lane sat down for the anthem on Thursday night at the Oakland Coliseum in support of Kaepernick “I wasn’t trying to say anything, just standing behind Kaepernick” Lane who has never met Kaepernick respects his motives “No relationship I just like what he’s doing I just sat down showing support for Kaepernick” said Lane.

Los Angeles Angel Mike Trout is okay after his accident Trout driving on the 55 after Wednesday’s game and tried to avoid an accident that was ahead of him and diverted from his lane and hit the car driven by a young woman which caused her to get rescued from the jaws of life Trout was not injured. That’s Amaury’s News and Commentary: Colin Kaepernick and the National Anthem

by Amaury Pi Gonzalez

tmz.com file photo: San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick 7 sits during the national anthem by the equipment boxes and Gatorade cans (see the red arrow) before last Saturday night’s game vs. the Green Bay Packers at Levis Stadium

SANTA CLARA–I defend Colin Kaepernick right not to stand during the National Anthem, because this country does not considers that a crime. He has not violated any laws and he(as everybody else)in this country has the right to free speech and to demonstrate.

But. I stand everytime the National Anthem is played before a sporting event, because many people died for the right of the 49ers quarterback, so he can have the freedom not to stand.

I stand up because I, as a minority, was given the opportunity to come to the United States and enjoy the freedoms and opportunity that my country of origin never granted me, as well as is the case for millions of other people who came to this “unique country in the world”.

I stand because although this is not a perfect country, I love and respect all the principals for which this country stands for.

And finally I stand for the 49ers quarterback who if he doesn’t play well he might have to sit more than just during the pregame National Anthem, but during the actual game.

That’s Amaury’s Podcast, News, and Commentary: Olympic Kaos– Lochte could be back in the games in four years: Kenyans athletes still stuck in Rio Shantytowns

punchng.com photo: Kenyan team captain Wesley Korir talks with Olympic officials as team Kenya is still stuck in Rio close to a week after the closing ceremonies last Sunday

On That’s Amaury’s Podcast Jeremy Kahn joins Amaury Pi Gonzalez as athletes from the Kenyan Olympic team are still stranded in Rio and cannot leave the country because they can not afford to fly back to Kenya. The Kenyan team won 13 medals the most of any African country. The Kenyan government feels betrayed by the Olympic International Committee and have abandon the organization. The Keyans have said the OIC had mishandled the athletes accommodations, travel arrangements, accreditations, and failure to provide sports kits that never reached the athletes according to Keyan Minister of Sports Hassan Wario.

Meanwhile the Brazilian Government is inquiring about US swimmer Ryan Lochte who lost such endorsement products as Speedo will give testimony on what he earlier claimed to have been a robbery at a Rio gas station. Lochte with swimmers Gunnar Bentz, Jack Conger, and James Feigen were not the victims of robbery but were stopped by security guards at the gas station for vandalizing a Rio bathroom while drunk. Armed on duty guards did not point a gun at Lochte’s head as he originally had claimed.

That’s Amaury’s Podcast, News and Commentary: Gymnastics and swimming excels there’s more gold to be won by U.S.; plus more sports headlines

AP photo: Fantastic five from the US Women’s gymnastic team holding gold after Tuesday’s competition from left to right Aly Raisman, Madison Kocian, Lauren Hernandez, Gabby Douglas, and Simone Biles at the 2016 Rio Summer Olympics

On the podcast with Amaury, The US Women’s gymnastic team is getting the gold with the fantastic five leading the way. Simone Biles, Gabby Douglas, Lauren Hernandez, Madison Kocian, and Aly Raisman. The US gymnastic team was called “the most dominate team the sport has witnessed” who can top that act?

Also Cuba is at the Summer Olympics in Rio and they have not won a medal as of yet and most likely will return to Cuba without one. The Cuban team will participate in 19 different sports can they win at least one medal?

The San Francisco Giants have slipped so badly since the All Star break they have now lost their NL West lead which sees them tied with the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Giants did mange to win a ball game on Wednesday’s get away game in Miami shutting out the Marlins 1-0. They’ll have to keep that going as they get set to face the Baltimore Orioles on Friday night at AT&T.

That’s Amaury’s News and Commentary: Angels host the A’s a race to stay out of last place

am570radio.com file photo: Los Angeles Angels pitcher Houston Street was recently rocked by the visiting Boston Red Sox, Street hopes to turn it around against his former team the Oakland A’s

ANAHEIM–All the excitement was gone when the Red Sox left town after scoring 5 runs in the top of the ninth inning to split a 4 game series at Angel Stadium. The Angels had a 3 run lead going into the ninth, when Huston Street blew-up allowing all the 5 earned runs, including a Homerun by Dustin Pedroia that put the Sox ahead. The whole series has a special buzz, because this was the last visit of David (El Papi Grande)Ortiz to Anaheim, he went 0 for 5 in his game on Sunday here at The Big A. But he enjoyed his stay and chat also with his good buddy Albert Pujols who now has 580 Homeruns, #10 in the all-time list, just 3 behind Mark McGwire’s 583 for the 10th spot in Homerun history.

Ortiz is also leading the American league in many offensive categories and he also carries a total of 528 Homeruns with him everyplace he goes on his ‘tour d’ force’ in 2016. Both Pujols and Ortiz from the Dominican Republic are two of the three active players today with over 500 Homeruns, the other one is Alex Rodriguez, born in Miami, of Dominican parents. Big Papi Ortiz looks intimidating today at 40 years of age and during a brilliant 20 year career.

Both Pujols and Ortiz are headed to Cooperstown, five years after they play their last game. Both are Designated Hitters, Ortiz has been a DH longer than Pujols, who  once in a while plays first base for the Angels, and has also  won a couple of Gold Gloves at that position, both as a Cardinal.

Many say that David Ortiz should never be elected to the Hall of Fame, because he basically got to his current numbers as a designated hitter. He is not guilty of playing as a DH, a position that was created in 1973. On April 6, 1973, Ron Blomberg of the New York Yankees became the first designated hitter in Major League Baseball history, facing Boston Red Sox right-handed pitcher Luis Tiant in his first plate appearance. “Boomer” Blomberg was walked.

The excitement of the Boston Red Sox with David (Big Papi) Ortiz is gone and now starting Tuesday the Oakland Athletics visit Angel Stadium for a three-game series. Athletics and Angels are playing for 2017 but they have to settle the score and more than likely one of these two clubs will finish last in the West. The A’S hope they do not repeat with another last place finish in back-to-back seasons. The Angels are headed into very unknown territory for a Mike Scioscia team (he has been the manager of this team for 17 years) longer than any other current manager in the game. By the way for all you trivia nuts, among all three main professional leagues in the country MLB, NFL and NBA, only one guy has been directing a team longer than Angels skipper, it is San Antonio Spurs coach Greg Popovich (20 consecutive years head coach of the Spurs).

Although this 2016 season could be the worst for the Angels since1999 when they finished in fourth place with a 70-92 record, it has not really affected the attendance at Angel Stadium, they are on their way to another over 3 million attendance. A lot has to do with he LA area home for 19 million people, the Dodgers 35 miles up north on I-5 from Angel Stadium are also on the way to even better number than the Angels.

We are now entering the last two months of the season, and for these two teams, there are lots of questions to be answer, and they are probably not going to ansawer them until this next off-season. Let’s face it, there is not one of two trades than can change the direction of these clubs in this 2016.

That’s Amaury’s Podcast, News and Commentary: Giants try giving pitching a shot in the arm; plus where the A’s are headed after dealing Reddick and Hill

mlb.com file photo: It’ll be a matter of time to see if trading former Giant Matt Duffy to the Tampa Bay Rays pays off for the San Francisco Giants

On That’s Amaury’s podcast, since the All Star break the San Francisco Giants pitching hasn’t been the same, Giant pitcher Jake Peavy is at the end of his career, Matt Cain has been inconsistent this season. They acquired this lefty Matt Moore from the Tampa Bay Rays which I saw him pitch in Anaheim last week pitching for the Rays. Moore pitched very well against the Angels.

The Giants in order to get Moore they had to trade a very popular player third baseman Matt Duffy who they also sent Michael Santos a 21 year old pitcher and Lucas Fox an 18 year old prospect at shortstop all to Tampa Bay and it was a calculated risk. Moore has been hurt he went through Tommy John surgery a couple of years ago in the month of May he didn’t have too much control.

That’s Amaury’s News and Commentary: Giants in Spanish have a new home KKSF 910 AM

Giants in Spanish have a new home at KKSF 910AM
by Amaury Pi-Gonzalez
photo by allaccess.com: KKSF 910 the new Spanish radio home of the San Francisco Gigantes
SAN FRANCISCO–Very good news for Spanish speaking baseball fans. The San Francisco Giants Spanish broadcast, which ended on June 30th when they played the Oakland Athletics at the Oakland Coliseum, after Salem Communications acquired 860AM Radio (50,000 Watts) and changed its format from ESPN Deportes to Conservative Talk(The Answer) now has a new home. Starting next week the Giants games in Spanish will resume on KKSF 910AM radio an Iheart radio station with 20,000 Watt (day) and 5,000 Watt (night).
This is very good news also for colleagues Erwin Higueros and Rigoberto (Tito) Fuentes, both longtime friends which also happened to work together. According to the most recent US Census in 2010, the San Francisco-Oakland-San Jose Bay Area registered 1,681,880 Spanish speaking folks, that is 23.5% of the total population of the area which registered 7,150,739. That was the 2010 US Census, six years ago, so those numbers have probably gone up since then.
Both Bay Area Major League Baseball teams broadcast games in Spanish, with the Atleticos de Oakland on The A’s Spanish Radio Network, on KIQI 1010AM San Francisco and Bay Area(Flagship) KATD 990AM covering Sacramento-Stockton. KEJY 790AM Eureka and KWRU 1300AM Fresno. All five major league teams in California broadcast in Spanish Language radio. On television the Los Angeles Angels originate their telecast in Spanish on FOX Sports West, as well as the Los Angeles Dodgers on SNLA and the San Diego Padres on FOX Sports San Diego.
I thought I have seen everything in Spanish radio in the bay area, but this was the first time I have seen a regular over-the-air broadcast discontinued at mid-season. We all agree, that in radio “there is never a dull moment”, now more than ever in this super fast, text-twitter-internet world we are all part of.

That’s Amaury’s Podcast, News, and Commentary: After court ruling Warriors expect to have new arena ready by 2019

abc7news.com file photo: Golden State Warriors proposed design of new arena Chase Center at Mission Bay expected to be completed by 2019

On That’s Amaury’s Podcast, News, and Commentary, San Francisco Superior Court Judge Garrett Wong ruled that the path has been cleared one more step for the Golden State Warriors to have their new arena at Mission Bay start construction. Judge Wong refused to go with the opponents arguments regarding environmental impacts and alternative sites for a new Warriors arena.

Mission Bay Alliance had filed a number of lawsuits regarding environmental impacts to stop construction of the arena at Mission Bay which included traffic congestion that would impede UCSF Hospital including emergency vehicles and patients who are trying to access UCSF. The Alliance attempted to try and show the court that traffic congestion would be the number one issue that would impact the neighborhood and the hospital.

Amaury has more commentary on the Warriors new arena plus the Chicago Cubs chances of getting their first World Series Championship since 1908.

That’s Amaury’s Podcast, News and Commentary: Radio scheduling prevents Giants Spanish radio from being on the airwaves

sarashowalter.com file photo: San Francisco Giants Spanish broadcaster Tito Fuentes

Amaury on the podcast will start with discussing former Montreal Expo Vladimir Guerrero’s appearance at the 2016 All-Star game in San Diego also we discuss the Warriors signing of Kevin Durant and did the Warriors sacrifice their bench to bring in Durant. The big news Amaury on the podcast is the loss of the Spanish broadcasts on the Giants radio network.

Deportes Radio was bought out and a new company will program English conservative talk which will take the place of the Spanish format and Giants baseball in Spanish will be pre empted. The Spanish Giants radio broadcasts have no where to go and the Spanish broadcast team and the Giants will have to search for a new radio home.
