San Francisco 49ers podcast with David Zizmor: Will Kaepernick’s Star Spangled sit down and Miller’s double assault arrest be a huge distraction for the 49ers on Monday night?

AP photo: Ex-San Francisco 49ers linebacker Bruce Miller’s booking shot at San Francisco Police Department. Miller was arrested early Sunday morning and booked on Monday for double assault charges

On the 49ers podcast with David, with all that’s happened on the 49ers leading up to opening night this Monday how much attention will be on quarterback Colin Kaepernick when he takes a knee on Monday Night Football against the Los Angeles Rams in Santa Clara. Also with the most recent incident regarding 49ers linebacker Bruce Miller’s double assault arrest. The team no doubt leading up to Monday’s game will be under a microscope and the question is will all of this be a distraction for the 49ers starting the season?

The 49ers Blaine Gabbert gets the call as starter and is going over the playbook with head coach Chip Kelly in preparation of the starting role. The 49ers putting in a lot of confidence in Gabbert as starter to carry the club in the NFC West. It’ll take some doing as the 49ers coming off last season’s tough go want some progress under Kelly’s leadership.

San Francisco 49ers report: Video still shows a bloody Miller at Marriott Fisherman’s Wharf lobby hallway

by David Zizmor

larrybrownsports.com video still: A video still from a Marriott Fisherman’s Wharf camera shows San Francisco 49ers tight end Bruce Miller bloodied and walking down the hotel hallway after his assault on two hotel guests. From the video Miller also received some of the worst of it as well.

SANTA CLARA–The whole scenario regarding the recent arrest over the weekend of San Francisco 49ers tight end Bruce Miller after two guests at the San Francisco Marriott Fisherman’s Wharf said Miller assaulted them after they told Miller had the wrong room after knocking on their door at 2:45 AM early Sunday morning. Miller had tried to rent a room at the Marriott on Saturday night but the hotel was sold out. Miller returned at 2:45 AM reportedly intoxicated when a 28 year old guest heard knocking on his father’s door the son was a guest in the next room.

When Miller tried to enter the room of an elderly couple the son tried to explain to Miller that he had the wrong room that’s when Miller attacked the son and the 70 year old father tried to assist the son but was punched in the face so badly that he had fractures in his face. Both son and the father ended up going to the hospital. Judging from the photo of Miller walking down the hallway from a video camera at the hotel he apparently got a little roughed up on his end of that fight he was bloodied in forehead and face and looked a little shaken up.

According to San Francisco Sheriff’s records Miller was arrested at 11:25 AM on Monday morning and taken to San Francisco County Jail he is being held on $178,000 bail he was booked for possession of a deadly weapon (not a firearm), two counts of criminal threats, battery and elder abuse. What Miller was doing in San Francisco on a Saturday night trying to rent a room at the Marriott was not clear the 49ers play their next home game at Levis Stadium in Santa Clara on Monday September 12th hosting the Los Angeles Rams.

Miller has a prior from Santa Clara in March 2015 for spousal abuse, Miller had thrown the cell phone of his fiancé and smashing the phone  and shoved her. Miller plead no contest and was charged with a misdemeanor assault and had to attend 16 weeks of anti-domestic counseling. Miller was observed by the Marriott front desk staff bloodied, bleeding and vomiting when walking by the lobby. The front desk had put in a 911 call at that time. Judging from the video still that Miller was bloody in the head and face area he might have been having concussion like symptoms from the father and son fighting him off causing the vomiting.

Miller had come to the 49ers as a fullback from college and was valuable part of the three NFC Championship games and one Super Bowl in his first three years at the Niners over span of five years and 77 games Miller has 62 carries and 76 catches for 734 yards. It was speculated that Miller if he’s suffering from CTE could have his rational called into question due to the amount of hits a player takes in the NFL and while intoxicated it triggered him to believe he had a room at the Marriott and the guests were in his room. The 49ers released Miller from the team and a team statement read, “The San Francisco 49ers organization is aware of the media report regarding Bruce Miller. We are gathering all the relevant facts and will continue to monitor this situation.”

San Francisco 49ers podcast with Joe Lami: Kap says he won’t stop Star Spangle sit downs Santa Clara Cops will vote with union on walk out

AP photo: San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick will be backing up starter Blaine Gabbert on Sept 12th at Levis Stadium and said he’ll be in down position for the anthem for opening night

On the 49ers podcast quarterback Colin Kaepernick has made it clear that he will not stop sitting down during the national anthem. Keapernick made it clear when addressing the media in San Diego after last Thursday’s exhibition game. Kaepernick also reiterated that he will follow through in spite of the proposal by the Santa Clara law enforcement community that they would walk out of working the 49ers home opener on Monday September 12th if Kaepernick does not apologize for his Star Spangle sit downs and retrack what he has said about police brutality.

This will turn out to be a stalemate, Kaepernick will take a seat or a knee on the 12th and not apologize for protesting the mistreatment of minorities by law enforcement and law enforcement in the South Bay could very well walk out per their union from covering the 49ers home game on the 12th and going forward.

Also catch Joe’s discussion tonight on who’s staying and whose going on the 49ers roster.

Protest and perform: Kaepernick stance continues in San Diego as the 49ers close the pre-season with a win

Kaep kornered

By Morris Phillips

Colin Kaepernick might not have been red, white and blue enough for Chargers’ fans, but he appeared to be red and gold enough for the 49ers’ coaching staff on Thursday night.

Kaepernick again refused to stand for the national anthem before the game, this time kneeling with teammate Eric Reid, during Steven Powell’s singing of the Star Spangled Banner.  The Chargers celebrating their 28th annual “Salute to the Military” had 240 members from each of the four branches of the military on the field for the anthem, displaying flags as Powell, a Naval officer sang.

Before and after the anthem, Kaepernick was greeted with boos and strong language, but in a statement before the game, he remained resolute.

“I’m going to continue to stand with the people that are being oppressed,” Kaepernick stated.  “To me, this is something that has to change.  When there’s significant change and I feel like that flag represents what it’s supposed to represent, this country is representing people the way that it’s supposed to, I’ll stand.”

Reid, a native of Baton Rouge, Lousiana has been publicly supportive of his teammate, while expressing concern for his hometown, a flashpoint for violence between the police and the black community over the summer.

Less controversial was Kaepernick’s play on the field in his lengthiest and best stint of the pre-season.  The 28-year old quarterback started, led the 49ers to a touchdown on their initial 16-play, 85-yard drive that consumed more than half of the first quarter.  DuJuan Harris culminated the drive with a one-yard run, while Kaepernick completed 6 of 8 passes on the drive, and contributed two productive run plays.

Kaepernick would go on to play the entire first half, finishing 11 of 18 for 103 yards.  He played behind a backup offensive line, and against San Diego’s second string defense, but impressed by moving the team, and not suffering any sacks or turnovers.

Blaine Gabbert, the presumed starter for the regular season opener on September 12, sat out as announced before the game.  Kaepernick was followed by sixth-round draft pick Jeff Driskel and free agent signee Christian Ponder.

The 49ers led at halftime, 9-7, after Kaepernick led the team on a late drive before the half that ended with Jeff Dawson’s 32-yard field goal.   Driskel’s stint was marred by two interceptions as the Niners fell behind 21-9 in the third quarter.  But Ponder was at the controls in the fourth when the club scored 22 points and regained the lead.

Among those that impressed, running back Kelvin Taylor had nine carries for 56 yards and the final score of the night, a 10-yard run with 55 seconds remaining that put the game away.  Marcus Rush’s interception off a deflection set up that final score.  Rush, the former Michigan State linebacker continued his impressive pre-season play with the pick, and a forced fumble.

Je’Ron Hamm led the 49ers with four catches for 65 yards.  Jeremy Kerley, a trade acquisition from the Jets in the last week, caught two passes and returned a punt.  Kerley appears to be the needed veteran presence among the receiver corps with Bruce Ellington felled by a season-ending injury two weeks ago.

The 49ers must reduce their roster to 53 in the coming days, and Kaepernick’s presence among that final group isn’t assured.  Most prognosticators believe the team will retain the veteran as their most experienced and capable backup, but his considerable contract, and the anthem controversy, make that far from a sure thing.

The team reported no new injuries after the game, although Aaron Lynch was briefly hobbled in the first half.  Lynch started at outside linebacker, but will not be available to play or appear at the team facilities during the first four weeks of the season due to a league-mandated suspension.

Gabbert, NaVorro Bowman, Reid and Joe Staley were among a group of 17 presumed starters and key reserves that did not suit up or play.

The 49ers open the regular season on September 12 against the Rams at Levi’s Stadium.

San Francisco 49ers-San Diego Chargers game preview: What to Watch For 49ers at Chargers

By: Joe Lami

AP file photo: Minnesota Vikings quarterback Teddy Bridgewater (6) under pressure from the San Diego Chargers Adrian Phillips (31) from Wed Aug 28, 2016 pre season game. Bridgewater was injured in non contact practice on Aug 31 tearing his ACL, dislocating his left knee and other significant damage his injury has created an opening at quarterback for the Vikings

The final game of the NFL pre-season is here for the San Francisco 49ers and there are many questions still left unanswered. The first of which and that has been grabbing the most attention is who is going to be the starting quarterback. After a very unimpressive performance in his first action of the pre-season last week, Colin Kaepernick has a lot of ground to make up on Blaine Gabbert.

Surprisingly, it could be an injured Teddy Bridgewater that decides the fate of Kaepernick as a 49er. On Wednesday, Bridgewater suffered a torn ACL and had even further damage to his knee forcing him to miss the remainder of the 2016 season. With Minnesota on the prowl for a starting QB, this could be Kaepernick’s second chance at a starting role.

Kaepernick stirred up some controversy last Friday refusing to stand during the national anthem due to race issues. Causing a national debate, Kaepernick definitely brought attention to the issue. Opponents of his actions are furious, stating a disrespect to the people that help make this country free, mainly the military. Thursday night’s game against the San Diego Chargers, San Diego will be hosting their 28th annual Salute to the Military night, which of course will put even more eyes on Kaepernick.

The quarterback battle isn’t the only thing to keep your eyes on for Thursday, as there are a few starting spots available on the offensive line. Anthony Davis is making his return to the 49ers after sitting last season out, while Josh Garnett is looking to be named a starter after San Francisco drafted the Stanford Guard with the 28th overall selection of the 2016 draft. Both Garnett and Davis are battling for the starting Left Guard position.

While Garnett has been impressive this pre-season, it would be a shock to see him named as a starter, even to him. While speaking with him earlier in camp, Garnett loved his progress, but also knows his game needs a lot to perform at a high calibre in the NFL.

Despite the outcome of the game, there will be many stories to follow that will make a usual pre-season game fun to watch.

San Francisco 49ers podcast with David Zizmor: Kaepernick is not making any kind of false statements about why he’s sitting for the anthem

file photo: San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick will be front and center for his position on the national anthem when the 49ers play in San Diego on Thursday night in the final pre season game at Qualcomm Stadium

On the 49ers podcast with Dave; The NFL offices reportedly are upset with 49ers Colin Kaepernick’s plan to sit down for the national anthem and presidential hopeful Donald Trump said that Kaepernick “should leave and go find another country to live in.” The NFL offices can stick it as far as I’m concerned who cares what the NFL offices says and who would think the NFL offices would come out and support anything that Kaepernick says.

The NFL’s office job is to try to limit Kaepernick’s position as much as possible they’ve been the opposite as much as possible even in the Ray Rice case or the deflate gate case their always looking to diminish controversy as much as possible. So if Kaepernick is doing something for cause and effort controversy the league office is always going to come out on the opposite side.

That’s Amaury’s Podcast, News, and Commentary: Kaepernick will do a sit down anthem in heavily militarized San Diego this Thursday nite

AP file photo: San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick and Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rogers meet at midfield following their pre season game August 26th

On That’s Amaury’s podcast this Thursday is the highly anticipated game and it’s not the exhibition game with the San Francisco 49ers in San Diego that is of discussion but 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick who made it known that he will sit down during the national anthem before this coming Thursday’s final pre season game at Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego against the Chargers. San Diego is a heavily militarized city with a number of veterans who are based in San Diego this should be a real cluster when the fans are all over Kaepernick for not standing during the anthem.

Amaury said on his podcast that one thing that unites this country is the national anthem and the flag. Amaury wrote about this and he said  this is not the right decision by Kaepernick. There is free speech in this country Kap can say whatever he wants however on Tuesday the Chief of Police of San Francisco is asking for an apology from Kaepernick which he and his department didn’t receive. Kaepernick says he’s protesting the anthem because of the discrimination that blacks face and for those who were shot by police without just cause. Kaepernick who is not having a great pre season could get cut by the 49ers after Thursday’s game and quarterback Blaine Gabbert has been named the starting quarterback for the season opener on September 12 vs. The Los Angeles Rams.

That’s Amaury’s News and Commentary: Colin Kaepernick and the National Anthem

SANTA CLARA–I defend Colin Kaepernick right not to stand during the National Anthem, because this country does not considers that a crime. He has not violated any laws and he(as everybody else)in this country has the right to free speech and to demonstrate.

But. I stand everytime the National Anthem is played before a sporting event, because many people died for the right of the 49ers quarterback, so he can have the freedom not to stand.

I stand up because I, as a minority, was given the opportunity to come to the United States and enjoy the freedoms and opportunity that my country of origin never granted me, as well as is the case for millions of other people who came to this “unique country in the world”.

I stand because although this is not a perfect country, I love and respect all the principals for which this country stands for.

And finally I stand for the 49ers quarterback who if he doesn’t play well he might have to sit more than just during the pregame National Anthem, but during the actual game.

San Francisco 49ers podcast with Joe Lami: Kaepernick despite football will take a stand and sit during the national anthem

AP photo:  San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick scrambles during the first half of Friday night’s game against the Green Bay Packers at Levis Stadium

On the 49ers podcast with Joe Lami, Colin Kaepernick’s statement about not standing at attention during the national anthem because he won’t stand for a flag that oppresses it’s own citizen’s who are black. Kaepernick while taking a lot of criticism of the stand or in this case non stand will stick with his commitment. Kaepernick who had a rough game on Friday at Levis Stadium throwing for only 14 yards and completing two passes.

Kaepernick has missed three off season practices due to three off season surgeries. Also Kaepernick has missed the first two games of the exhibition due to shoulder injuries but played Friday night in a game that the 49ers were defeated against the Green Bay Packers. The 49ers Blaine Gabbert had two series. With a completion to tight end Garret Celek on the second drive and a five series drive that scored wide receiver Quinton Patton.

Kaepernick makes season debut, but does little on the field in 49ers’ loss to the Pack

Kap scrambles

By Morris Phillips

SANTA CLARA–Colin Kaepernick’s big shot—and likely his only opportunity—to be named the 49ers’ starting quarterback came and went with a whimper.

The 28-year old who spent the off-season recuperating from thumb, knee and shoulder surgeries, then experienced arm fatigue in training camp, made his 2016 debut on Friday against the Packers, and he didn’t do much to impress in slightly less than a quarter of action.

After watching Kaepernick complete two of six passes, two of which were batted at the line of scrimmage, along with some nifty scrambling on broken plays, only one conclusion could be drawn: maybe Kaepernick’s ability to unseat Blaine Gabbert as the starter may have been too much to ask.

According to Kaepernick, the starting job remains up for grabs.  Afterwards, he was plotting his gameplan for the final exhibition.

“I think next game we have to be more productive, put points on the board,” Kaepernick said.  “Ultimately, that’s what you want to do as an offense and as a quarterback.”

The 49ers’ ran seven plays on Kaepernick’s first possession, then went three and out twice. The quick, fruitless possessions put pressure on the 49ers’ defense, who allowed Green Bay to score early in the second quarter. The Pack would go on to add two more touchdowns in the second half, and win 21-10, to improve to 3-0 in the pre-season.

The 49ers possessed the ball 20 minutes, 31 seconds, losing the time of possession battle nearly two-to-one, and threw for just 61 yards while falling to 1-2 with one final exhibition on Thursday at San Diego.

While many teams use the third pre-season game as their regular season dress rehearsal, Coach Chip Kelly elected to sit several of his defensive stars, while limiting the time for both Gabbert and Kaepernick.

The Packers held 13 players out, most notably receiver Jordy Nelson, safety Morgan Burnett, and backup quarterback Brett Hundley. Aaron Rodgers played two series in the first half, his pre-season debut and likely his conclusion as well. Rodgers finished six of nine for 60 yards, leading the Pack on a 14-play drive that tied the score at 7 in the second quarter.

Gabbert started for the 49ers and led the team to a touchdown given a short field on their second possession. But Gabbert wasn’t much on the wow meter either, finishing two of three for 14 yards passing.

“Had some good drives, had some bad drives,” Gabbert said. “Shot ourselves in the foot a couple times and when you’re inconsistent on the offensive side of the ball, you don’t execute at a high level. It shows when you don’t move the ball, you don’t score points, drives stall. We put our defense in some tough positions and ultimately you lose the game.”

If any San Francisco unit bore watching on Friday, it was the offensive line where both guard spots appear to be still up for grabs with the September 12th season opener looming. Andrew Tiller had held the starting spot at right guard through camp, but was replaced in the starting lineup on Friday by Anthony Davis. Center Daniel Kilgore and right tackle Trent Brown flanked Davis, opposite left tackle Joe Staley and left guard Zane Beedles. Rookie first round pick Joshua Garnett played extensively, but may not be far enough along to unseat Beedles for the opener against the Rams.

Carlos Hyde saw his most extensive pre-season action but was removed when he exhibited concussion symptoms in the second quarter. Hyde finished with 30 yards rushing on four carries, including a 27-yard jaunt in the first quarter.

Bruce Ellington started in the slot receiver spot but was felled by a hamstring injury while fielding a punt, leaving his availability for the opener up in the air. If Ellington can’t go, DeAndrew White could be the starter at that critical spot.

“I don’t know what the medical diagnosis is nor am I going to talk about one of my friend’s injuries, who knows how severe it is. But I know DeAndrew and Bruce have been working their tails off all throughout the summer and training camp learning that position in the slot,” Gabbert said.

Veteran defensive starters NaVorro Bowman, Ahmad Brooks and Antoine Bethea watched the game in street clothes, as did lineman Arik Armstead and Glenn Dorsey. First round pick DeForrest Buckner got the start at defensive tackle, but has yet to be teamed with former college teammate Armstead along the defensive front.

No timetable was given by Kelly, but the 49ers appear set in the secondary with Eric Reid and Bethea at the safeties, along with corners Tramaine Brock and first-time starter Jimmy Ward.
