San Francisco 49ers Podcast with David Zizmor: For Garoppolo a contrast in working with Patriots to 49ers but may not play a down this season

On the 49ers podcast with Dave:

1 The 49ers loss to the Arizona Cardinals 20-10 last Sunday at Levis Stadium continued the winless streak to nine for the Niners. The defense couldn’t stop Arizona quarterback Drew Stanton who was replacing starter Carson Palmer who broke his arm in week seven. Stanton threw for 15-30 and 201 yards.

2 Every week same thing different story in the game last Sunday and the week before in Philadelphia the 49ers met some tougher opponents but still haven’t found a way to the win column

3 The 49ers host the New York Giants (1-7) Sunday at Levis in what could be the 49ers best chance to win a game this season. It’s however very unlikely that quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo will get a series in the game although he’s on the sidelines studying the 49ers plays and playbook

49ers’ Still Seek First Win 20-10 loss to Arizona; Drop to 0-9

SANTA CLARA, Calif — 49ers head coach, Kyle Shanahan will have to wait at least another week before his first National Football League win. His best chance of the season came on Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals.

Arizona came in off their bye week and had their way with the 49ers, winning 20-10. Drew Stanton started at quarterback for Arizona after Carson Palmer broke his arm in week seven. The extra week for Stanton seemed to be just enough, as he finished 15 of 30 for 201 yards and two touchdowns. He also threw one interception.

The Cardinals leaned heavily on Adrian Peterson, who had his best game yet since going to the desert, running for 159 yards on a career-high 37 carries.

Arizona won the game with their defensive line, as the 49ers were completely shut down offensively. The banged-up front for the Niners came back to haunt them, as C.J. Beathard was unable to do anything, getting hit a total of 16 times, including five sacks.

Even, Arizona coach, Bruce Arians was impressed by Beathard’s toughness, “that was a beat-up offensive line and God bless him. He’s tough as nails and stood in there and threw the ball because we hit him a bunch.”

When Beathard was able to throw the ball, he was inconsistent and inaccurate, completing 26 of 51 passes for 294 yards and an interception. However, he was the only 49er to find the end zone, as he used his feet to slam it in from one-yard on a read-option play in the third quarter.

The San Francisco defense kept them in the game but unfortunately, the stagnant Niners offense couldn’t do anything.

Eric Reid made a great play late in the second quarter intercepting a pass in the end zone that would have put Arizona up 21-3 before the half, but the offense stalled out after a false start penalty and a couple of incompletions.

Penalties continue to be a reoccurring issue with San Francisco, as they continue to commit penalties. On Sunday, they committed eight penalties for 53 yards, bringing their season total to 76 penalties for 516 yards.

49ers’ wide receiver, Marquise Goodwin, recognizes the problem, “it’s the same thing every week. It’s the same story. We just have to get better from that. They didn’t go out there and beat our heads in. We did it to ourselves each week.”

The difference between winning and losing usually comes in the form of penalties and with the Niners being towards the bottom of the league, it’s something the coaching staff needs to find a way to fix. After all, they are 0-9 and haven’t won a game at home since September 12th, 2016.

San Francisco 49ers Podcast with Joe Lami: Garoppolo learning the ropes of 49ers system look for him to start by Nov 12th

blog.prosportsmedia.com photo: Jimmy Garoppolo quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers meets with the press at Levis Stadium shortly after his acquisition last week in Santa Clara

On the 49ers podcast with Joe:

Newest San Francisco 49er quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo will need sometime to go through the playbook and 49ers system before he see any kind of play. Garoppolo will be on a learning curve as the 49ers will be starting CJ Beathard against the Arizona Cardinals for this Sunday at Levis Stadium. Garoppolo is the supposed quarterback of the future.

They will give Garoppolo sometime to get ready and he will be studying plays working with Beathard during Sunday’s game. The 49ers after Sunday’s game with Arizona will be playing New York against the Giants at Levis Stadium in the second of three home games. The 49ers following the game with the Giants will have a bye then they will host the Seattle Seahawks Nov 26th.

Niners get new QB, but don’t expect to see him very soon

The 0-8 49ers got a major shot in the arm Monday night, as they acquired quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo from the New England Patriots in exchange for a second-round pick next season, a move that is expected to go a long way to resolve a long-standing issue at the quarterback position.

But don’t expect him to see him on the field for at least the next few weeks.

Not the he is injured, but the second-year signal-caller will need time to learn the 49ers’ playbook, which is completely different from that of the Patriots.

In the meantime, to make room for Garoppolo on the roster, the 49ers on Tuesday released Brian Hoyer, who began the season as the team’s starting quarterback but was benched in the second quarter in favor of rookie C.J Beathard two games ago and has not seen the field since.

In addition to having to learn the playbook, the 49ers will also need time to get their situation at left tackle – the quarterback’s blind side – taken care of. Joe Staley was injured in Sunday’s loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, and he is not expected to be back in the lineup for another three weeks.

Right tackle Trent Brown, who has been going through concussion protocol since being knocked out of Week 7’s loss to the Dallas Cowboys, returned to practice Wednesday and is expected to assume the left tackle position until Staley returns to the field.

Meanwhile, the team has other injury issues, as safety Jimmie Ward was placed on season-ending injured reserve due to the broken forearm that he suffered against the Eagles, which will prompt Eric Reid, who had played the past two weeks at linebacker, to go back to safety for this Sunday.

The 49ers made another move at defensive back on Tuesday, as the team dealt cornerback Rashard Robinson, who has had more than his fair share of on-field troubles this season, to the New York Jets for a fifth-round pick.

This Sunday, the 49ers will face the Arizona Cardinals, another team that has had to deal with unfavorable quarterback issues this year. Their regular starter, Carson Palmer, suffered a broken arm two weeks ago and is expected to miss the remainder of the season.

After the Arizona game, the 49ers will play the disappointing New York Giants, and they will have their bye week following that. At that point, the 49ers can expect to put Garoppolo on the field for the first time, given that he is comfortable with the new playbook at that point, and that no major injuries occur at the quarterback position between now and then.

It’s been a pretty wild week for the 49ers for any number of reasons and they had tough loss in Philadelphia. The Eagles look like one of the top teams in the NFC right now their 7-1 after Sunday’s win against the 49ers. Everybody thought that the 49ers switching quarterbacks going from Bryan Hoyer to CJ Beathard would change the narrative and it really hasn’t.

This is still a team that’s struggling to make things happen on offense and the defense and are starting to wear out that’s what we’ve seen in previous seasons where the defense is okay and then when the season wares on the offense is inept and they keep the defense on the field too long each week. The defensive players get more and more worn out.

Niners Make Franchise History; Start Season 0-8 After 33-10 Loss to Eagles in Philly

By: Joe Lami

For the first time in franchise history, the San Francisco 49ers are 0-8. Sunday’s loss that pushed them over the threshold was the worst loss to date, as they were thrashed by the Philadelphia Eagles 33-10.

Add injury to the insult, as five key 49ers went down in the contest. The mediocre offensive line lost its rock, Joe Staley in the second quarter and things just went downhill from there. Jimmy Ward and Soloman Thomas also were injured and didn’t return. Ward will most likely be out for an extended amount of time with a fractured forearm. Thomas, Garry Gilliam, and D.J Jones all went down with knee injuries.

The offensive line did a horrible job of protecting C.J. Beathard, who had his worst performance to date. Beathard finished the day throwing for 167 yards, a touchdown, and two interceptions, good enough for a 46.9 passer rating. He also led the 49ers in rushing yards with 40.

The NFL-leading Eagles had their way and toyed with the Niners all afternoon. Starting upfront, The Eagles got to Beathard early and often, hitting him 12 times and finishing with four sacks. The Philadelphia secondary also did a fabulous job against the passing attack, batting away 10 balls, intercepting two and bringing one back for a touchdown.

The 49ers defense wasn’t awful, but not getting any help from the offense paid its toll. Carson Wentz threw for 211 yards and two touchdowns. LeGarrette Blount also found the end zone on 16 carries and 48 yards.

The 49ers did a decent job of forcing the Eagles off the field, holding them to 29% third-down conversion.

The 49ers failed on all three sides of the ball, as special teams had a 27-yard field goal blocked in the early part of the fourth quarter.

The only bright note came from Matt Brieda, who scored his first career NFL touchdown off a short shovel pass. Brieda made cut his way through the Eagles defense for the 21-yard score.

San Francisco was beaten by the best team in the NFL on Sunday and didn’t look good doing it. They have a long week before their next matchup at home against the Cardinals and have many injuries to heal before their search for the first win of the season.

San Francisco 49ers Podcast with Joe Lami: Reid gets switched to linebacker say locker room situation not positive; Could be dealt by the end of the season

By Joe Lami:

The San Francisco 49ers linebacker Eric Reid who formerly played safety and is making that switch this weekend and Reid will play his first game exclusively as linebacker. Reid is not entirely happy about the switch but that comes down to the fact that the Niners and head Kyle Shanahan see that it is necessary. It seems like the 49ers have a chance to make it seems likes it going to be a little bit of moving around on the player roster.

Reid will be traded? So far the 49ers have not made any long term commitments to Reid and his contract runs out at the end of the season. Reid mentioned after last week game’s with the Dallas Cowboys at Levis Stadium that the disappointing loss was not positive in the locker room. Seeing the way things are going for Reid he may not be with the 49ers at the end of the season. His agent says he’s one of the best safeties in the NFL.

49ers preview report: 0-16 could be on the horizon for listless 49ers

SANTA CLARA–Earlier in the season, the 49ers appeared to be competitive and stood a chance to win more of those games than previously expected.

Lately, however, they have looked like a team that does not have a clue on what it takes to win in the NFL, particularly in a pathetic performance last Sunday in a 40-10 loss to the Dallas Cowboys. Now they face a Philadelphia Eagles team that is now 6-1 after a dominant performance Monday night against Washington.

At this point, it does not appear that there is any way that the 49ers can beat Philadelphia. The 49ers were gashed in the running game last Sunday and could not defend the pass, either, which does not bode very well against a quarterback like Carson Wentz, who enters Sunday having thrown the most touchdown passes in the NFL this season.

On offense, it was even worse, as even with a new starting quarterback in C.J Beathard, the 49ers failed to generate anything resembling momentum. Head coach Kyle Shanahan even said that there was nothing positive to take from the beating that they took from the Cowboys.

The only thing he did not say was, “We have not shown we can play on the road or in front of our own crowd, so we would like to have a neutral site,” as the late Tampa Bay Buccaneers coach John McKay once said.

The Cleveland Browns are not on the schedule this year, so when looking at the remaining opponents in 2017, there are none that the 49ers are favored to win the game. In years past, the Jacksonville Jaguars was a very winnable game for them, but Jacksonville is much improved, so the winnability of that contest goes completely out the window.

As for the game that is coming up, there are notable 49er players who were held out of practice on Wednesday, such as tackle Trenton Brown, who suffered a concussion against Dallas and is undergoing concussion protocol. Fellow tackle Joe Staley, who has been the subject of trade rumors of late, also missed Wednesday’s practice while nursing a knee injury.

Meanwhile, linebacker Reuben Foster practiced on a limited basis on Wednesday after suffering a rib injury on Sunday, while receiver Marquise Goodwin and fullback Kyle Juszczyk are both nursing back ailments and were also limited in practice.

On the 49ers podcast with David:

1  With the 49ers taking a beating on Sunday by the Dallas Cowboys 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan said the team is not playing enough games to “make it acceptable”

2 The 49ers have a lot of young players on the roster 11 rookies that all combined have been in 405 snaps in the 30 point loss to the Cowboys

3 Former 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick said that he had a book deal with Random but after a quick check Random said there was no such deal. Also Kaepernick is scheduled to meet with NFL owners during their next meeting. The owners and Kaepernick more than likely will discuss his grievance regarding collusion. They could reach a quick settlement and have Kaepernick either throwing for another team or sitting out the season

49ers Lay An Egg on Dwight Clark Day; Elliot runs all day for Cowboys in 40-10 crushing

By: Joe Lami

SANTA CLARA, Calif.–In one of the most emotionally charged days in Levi’s Stadium history, Dwight Clark Day, the San Francisco 49ers were all but emotional as they came out completely flat in a 40-10 blowout loss to the Dallas Cowboys. A large drop off from the 1981 championship team that was in attendance for Clark’s special day, Sunday marked the worse loss given to the 49ers since September 27th, 2015 where Arizona routed them 47-7.

San Francisco was dominated from start to finish. Starting with fumbling a punt off of Dallas’ first drive. The Cowboys recovered it at the 49ers’ 20-yard line and put Ezekiel Elliot to work. Zeke carried the ball three straight times marching his way to the end zone for the first time on Sunday.

Zeke finished with a huge day for America’s team, with 219 all-purpose yards. He rushed the ball 26 times for 147 yards and two touchdowns and caught one pass on the flat and brought it 72 yards for his only receiving score of the day.

Dak Prescott also torched the Niners through the air, throwing for 234 yards on 25 attempts and three touchdowns. His main target, Dez Bryant caught seven passes for 63 yards and a score. He also found his tight end, Jason Witten in the end zone for a magnificent one-handed grab.

Kyle Shanahan described the action perfectly by stating that there was nothing positive from Sunday’s contest, as they were dominated in all three aspects of the game.

C.J. Beathard struggled in his first professional start, but most of it wasn’t entirely his fault as swiss cheese would’ve protected him more than the Niners offensive line. Beathard was nearly pressured every time he stepped back to pass, as he was hit six times with five of them ending in sacks and two with fumbles.

Through the air, Beathard threw 22-of-38 for 235 yards. He also scored the 49ers only touchdown of the day in garbage time, running it in from four-yards out.

The 49ers return to the road next week, as they face the Eagles which may be a welcoming site, as they haven’t won at Levi’s Stadium since the opener of the 2016 season.
