The Raiders should call the Steelers for Antonio Brown

There have been multiple reports in recent days that the Raiders would be interested in trading for Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown, which Oakland should do in a heartbeat. Armed with three first-round picks in this April’s NFL draft and flushed with nearly $73 million in salary cap space per Overthecap.com, the Raiders can send one of those picks to Pittsburgh and pay the going rate for the dynamic Brown.

Imagine quarterback Derek Carr throwing touchdowns to a wide receiver like Brown?

Carr threw for 4,049 yards with 19 touchdowns and 11 interceptions last season, much of that with insufficient talent at wide receiver. After the team traded away Amari Cooper to Dallas near midseason, free-agent addition Jordy Nelson was slowed by injuries for much of the season.

In fact, Carr’s most trusted receiver in 2018 was tight end Jared Cook, who had a career-year across the board. Cook had career-highs in catches (68), yards (896) and touchdowns (six) is an unrestricted free-agent and chances of him returning to the Silver and Black are a possibility.

But Antonio Brown would give Carr a legit weapon that other teams would have to fear. Brown has the ability to score from anywhere on the football field and the way that Raiders head coach Jon Gruden can design plays, getting Brown the ball shouldn’t be a problem.

Brown finished with 104 catches for 1,297 yards and 15 touchdowns, which led the NFL in 2018. Last season was the sixth-straight season that Brown recorded at least 100 catches, an NFL record per the Elias Sports Bureau.

With the Steelers reportedly seeking a first-round pick, the Raiders could ship either their own No. 4, or the No. 24 (from Chicago) or the No. 27 (from Dallas) respectively to Pittsburgh for Brown.

Just a thought, but the Raiders should make the move.

#1 The Raiders are close to swallowing the bitter pill and returning back to the Oakland Coliseum. The Raiders have met with Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum Authority executive director Scott McKibben.

#2 The Raiders are bitter about the city of Oakland suing them for moving and Oakland’s claim of losing revenue from the team leaving. The City of Oakland claims they will lose millions of dollars from the move and are suing the Raiders and the NFL.

#3 The Raiders withdrew from a lease agreement that was tentative at $7.5 million. Because of the lawsuit the Raiders were prepared to play at the baseball Giants park formerly known as AT&T Park, but when San Francisco Mayor London Breed pretty much objected to the idea the Giants, who welcomed the Raiders felt the pressure of city hall.

#4 NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell is looking at his watch in regards for the Raiders to get a deal done soon as the NFL are looking to start making the schedules for next season and are putting pressure on the Raiders to get a deal for a site for next season done.

#5 In other news, former Oklahoma Sooners quarterback Kyler Murray has committed to football and most likely will not join the Oakland A’s. Murray looked like he was going to play for the A’s, but has now chosen to get into the NFL Draft.

#1 Hall and Oates once penned a hit single called “I can’t go for that” while that old tune is starting to be hummed as San Francisco Mayor London Breed says that the idea of the Oakland Raiders playing in San Francisco is hitting a snafu. The deal looked good for a minute as the San Francisco Giants were prepared to host the wayward Raiders, but all for getting the ok from the San Francisco 49ers, who were mum on Tuesday and the Mayor came out and said the Raiders should play their games in Oakland and not in the City.

#2 Breed said that with the basketball Golden State Warriors with construction at the South of Market Chase Center, UCSF Hospital, a new landing area for ferry boats,1400 units of housing. Essentially, the City may say no to all the traffic congestion with two big league teams all going at the same time.

#3 During Super Bowl LIII in Atlanta, the subject of the Raiders playing in San Diego came up and during a press conference NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell made it clear that the league wants the Raiders to finish up their final season (2019) in the Bay Area.

#4 Other Bay Area options: The Raiders could used the very stadium from the team they need territorial rights from the San Francisco 49ers for use of Oracle if they get denied on that from the City then they might have to share Levis Stadium with the 49ers. This would be done only as a favor to Goodell and the league as this is the Raiders last season, but you can best bet the 49ers will be getting a share of the profits no matter if it’s at Oracle Park or Levis Stadium.

#5 The discussion of using Cal’s Memorial Stadium went off the table because of the lack of parking near the stadium and Stanford Stadium was not discussed and not considered. The subject of the Raiders going back to finish their last season at the Oakland Coliseum is now back on the table and to see if the City of Oakland and the Raiders could iron out some of their issues to make that happen. In the meantime, the NFL is waiting anxiously to make their schedules for next season.

#5 The New York Yankees outfielder Aaron Judge said he would welcome Bryce Harper to the Yankees if Harper decided to play in New York. Judge said a Harper acquisition would be an added improvement.

Will 49ers waive territorial rights to allow Raiders to play in the City?

SAN FRANCISCO — Plans by the Oakland Raiders are on the drawing board and sources say it’s very close that an agreement between the Raiders and San Francisco Giants will be hammered out. Matter fact it’s understood there is an agreement on the table as of Monday morning.

If an agreement is made it’s almost assured because of the smaller size of Oracle Park compared to the Oakland Coliseum the Raiders would most likely sell out every home game plus the idea that it’s the Raiders last season in the Bay Area and many Raider and NFL fans will want to take a last look at the team before they leave.

At issue is the San Francisco 49ers who have territorial rights in San Francisco and will they allow the Raiders playing in San Francisco. The 49ers are said to be studying any possible financial loses if the Raiders play in the city. The 49ers who play in Santa Clara a good hour drive from the City may ok the deal as the Raiders will play their last season in the Bay Area at Oracle Park.

The 49ers are looking to see what they would benefit from the deal from having the Raiders playing in San Francisco and that the 49ers may ask for a cut on tickets and TV shares from the Raiders if they waive their territorial rights. The 49ers have not commented on the Raiders playing in San Francisco and negotiations are still on the way.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said last week that he wanted the Raiders to make a decision as to where they will play as soon as possible. The NFL wants to begin making the schedule for the 2019 season without further delay.

The Raiders who chose not to play at the Oakland Coliseum anymore after the city of Oakland filed a lawsuit against the team in December. The Raiders had a tentative deal with the Oakland Coliseum and withdrew after Oakland filed the suit stating that the suit was over the relocation to Las Vegas calling the deal “illegal” the city of Oakland is seeking million of dollars from the Raiders and the NFL.

For football Oracle Park would seat up to 40,000 fans. Oracle Park hosted football when the XFL’s San Francisco Demons who played there in 2001, The California Mountain Lions in 2009 of the United Football League, Cal in 2011, NCAA bowl games the Shriners, Diamond, Kraft and Foster Bowls in 2002 to 2013.

Raiders name NFL Network analyst Mike Mayock new general manager

ALAMEDA, Calif — The Raiders have found their new general manager in NFL Network analyst Mike Mayock, the organization announced on Monday. Considered as a draft expert, Mayock will work hand-and-hand with head coach Jon Gruden in preparing for the upcoming draft in May.

News of Mayock’s hiring was first reported by NFL Network.

“Mike and I go back about 20 years to 1995 when I was with the Eagles,” Gruden said during a news conference Monday. “We’ve been friends and associates for a long time. … I don’t know anybody who knows and loves (football) like Mike.”

Mayock, 60, replaces former general manager Reggie McKenzie, who was fired by Oakland on Dec. 10, in what turned out to be disappointing season that saw the team trade away All-Pro linebacker Khalil Mack (to Chicago) and former fourth-overall pick in wide receiver Amari Cooper (to Dallas).

Both Mack and Cooper were instrumental in their teams winning their respective divisions and qualify for the playoffs, were drafted by McKenzie.

In his six-plus seasons as general manager of the Raiders, McKenzie compiled a 39-70 record and one playoff appearance. Whispers around the organization about McKenzie’s control as the final decision-maker began to surface once the Raiders signed Gruden to a 10-year contract for $100 million last year.

Back in September, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported that Gruden had his own staff of people that would help him evaluate talent and make decisions, separate from McKenzie, who had his own team of scouts and evaluators.

“I’m really happy to be here,” Mayock said. “I’ve probably had over 300 text messages [since behind hired by the Raiders]. A couple of them are like Archie Manning going, ‘you guys are a great fit.’ And the more I was just kind of scrolling through, all these football guys were reaching out and saying ‘you and Gruden are a great fit.'”

Mayock began his tenure at the NFL Network in 2004, and should bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to the Silver and Black. Mayock is well-known for his sharp eye in evaluating draft prospects and analytics. His extensive scouting reports and mock drafts are well respected around the NFL.

Oakland finished the 2018 season 4-12, own three first-round picks in next year’s draft.

Chiefs scalp Raiders 35-3 in 2018 season finale

In their final game of the season, absolutely nothing went right for the Oakland Raiders and it ended on a sour note.

Patrick Mahomes went 14-for-24 with 284 yards passing with two touchdowns and an interception, as the Kansas City Chiefs clinched home-field advantage throughout the AFC Playoffs with a 35-3 pasting of the Raiders at Arrowhead Stadium.

It was a historic day for Mahomes, who became just the second quarterback in the 99-year history of the NFL to throw for over 5,000 yards and 50 touchdowns on a season. Mahomes joined Peyton Manning to accomplish this feat.

Mahomes ended the season with 5,097 yards and 50 touchdowns in his first full season as quarterback of the Chiefs.

Demarcus Robinson caught Mahomes 50th touchdown pass of the season, as he beat the Raiders’ secondary and went 89 yards to the end zone.

Tyreek Hill caught a 67-yard touchdown pass, as he ended the day with five catches for 101 yards and became the Chiefs’ all-time single season leader in receiving yards, as he ended the 2018 season with 1,479. Hill also added a touchdown run in the fourth quarter, as the Chiefs defeated the Raiders for the eighth time in their last nine meetings.

Damien Williams gained 51 yards on the ground for the Chiefs, who ended the season with a 12-4 record, while the Raiders ended with a 4-12 record.

It was a nightmarish day for the Raiders, who turned over the ball on their first possessions of the game, which Carr’s first interception in 332 attempts that came to an end when Daniel Sorensen returned the interception 54 yards for a touchdown. Carr also threw another interception and a fumbled in the first quarter.

Carr did finish the game by going 23-for-32 for 184 yards, and Doug Martin led the Raiders in rushing with 100 yards, but also fumbled the ball.

Mahomes got the Chiefs rolling, as he found Hill for that 67-yard touchdown pass and then Sorensen stepped in front of Jared Cook for the interception return for a touchdown and it was 14-0 in the first quarter.

The onslaught continued in the second quarter, as Williams scored to give the Chiefs a 21-0 over their longtime rivals.

Daniel Carlson scored the final points of the season for the Raiders, as he nailed a 50-yard field goal with just 1:04 remaining in the first half.

Robinson then snared the Mahomes pass and ran 89 yards to the end zone, including the final 15 yards backwards that warranted a 15-yard penalty on the kickoff that put Mahomes over the 5,000-yard barrier and 50 touchdowns on the season.

Hill scored the final points of the game, as he raced 15 yards to the end zone early in the fourth quarter.

NOTES: Raiders rookie defensive lineman Maurice Hurst sat out the game with an ankle injury, and ended the season with four sacks that led the Raiders. The four sacks matched the lowest to lead the team since the sacks became an official stat in 1982.

UP NEXT: Season over for the Raiders, as they look for a replacement for former General Manager Reggie McKenzie, as they have three first round picks in the 2019 NFL Draft that will be held in Nashville, TN in April.
