On the San Francisco Giants podcast with Michael:

#1 San Francisco Giants (36-32) hitter Mike Yastrzemski slugged game tying home run in the ninth inning. Yastrzemski hitting .249, 42 hits, 7 home runs and 18 RBIs comes up with the clutch hit to save the Giants from a loss and forcing extra innings against the St Louis Cardinals (27-42).

#2 Thario Estrada belted a key single in the top of the tenth inning for RBI that put the Giants on top 6-5 and the eventual three 8-5 win for the sweep.

#3 Yastrzemski said after the game that he’s struck out many time and one more wouldn’t make that much of difference but he felt calm at the plate when he hit it out to tie the game.

#4 With the sweep the Cards now continue their five game loss streak and drop 15 games below .500 for their season worse.

#5 Michael talk about how important it is for the Giants to have called up outfielder Luis Matos and infielder David Villar.

San Francisco Wins In Extra Innings Beating St. Louis 8-5

By Barbara Mason

Wednesday afternoon the San Francisco Giants (36-32) finished up their three game series with the St. Louis Cardinals (27-42) coming back from a 5-3 deficit to win in ten innings 8-5 for a three game sweep at Busch Stadium in St Louis.

In game one, the Giants came back from behind to win 4-3 and on Tuesday they crushed St. Louis 11-3. Wednesday afternoon Anthony DeSclafani took the mound for the Giants and Jordan Montgomery was on the hill for the Cards.

Tuesday game recap: The Giants got an early lead in the opening inning. Thairo Estrada and Patrick Bailey both singled giving San Francisco a 2-0 lead. Austin Slater and Luis Matos scored in the first inning.

St. Louis had a quiet first inning but had a most productive second inning loading the bases. Tommy Edman knocked a long ball right (385 feet) into the stands giving St. Louis a 4-2 lead. Nolan Arenado, Dylan Carlson and Paul DeJong all scored on that Edman home run.

The Cardinals would add another run in the third inning. Nolan Gorman walked and then advanced to second base on a wild pitch. Jordan Walker singled Gorman home and it was starting to look like DeScalfani’s time on the mound was coming to an end.

Jakob Junis would take over on the hill for the Giants in the fourth inning. The Cardinals starting pitcher J Montgomery was having a great game once he settled down after a shaky first inning. He had retired 16 players in a row going into the sixth inning once he got on track.

San Francisco continued to trail after five innings 5-2 but have a number of come from behind wins under their belt lately. They had four innings left in the game to make a move.

The Giants would pull a little closer in the seventh inning scoring one run. Mike Yastrzemski singled David Villar home. After a quiet eighth inning, the Giants had one inning left to either tie or win this game. It was a three and out eighth inning for San Francisco. They badly needed some offense in the ninth inning.

In the ninth inning LaMonte Wade Jr. walked but with two outs it came down to San Francisco’s final out and Mike Yastrzemski. He answered with a two run home run (417 feet) and the tie game 5-5. Late inning offense has been on point for San Francisco of late.

The game would go into extra innings. The Giants had gone from their final out, their final strike in the ninth inning to a remarkable 8-5 lead in the tenth inning. Thairo Estrada, Wilmer Flores and LaMonte Wade Jr. all singled driving three runs home. Camilo Doval closed this game for San Francisco and the Giants had the sweep, their third of the season in this come from behind win 8-5.

San Francisco will have the day off Thursday before heading to Los Angeles on Friday to take on the Dodgers in a three game series. Bobby Miller will take the mound for Los Angeles with a 3-0 win/loss record and a 0.78 ERA. San Francisco is still undecided. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 PM.

A’s beat Rays 2-1 extend their winning streak to seven

By Titus Wilkinson (@TitusWisme)

OAKLAND- A’s fans came out in full swing for a reverse boycott and got to see an Athletics win over the Rays by a final of 2-1 bringing their winning streak up to seven games.

On the mound to start for the A’s was Shintaro Fujinami while for the Rays Jalen Beeks got the start.

Fujinami only pitched the first inning as he was replaced by Hogan Harris to start the second. Fujinami escaped the first inning only giving up one hit but no runs.

Breeks also only lasted a little bit longer as he was relieved in the second inning after facing one batter. Into the game came Yonny Chirinos who was sporting a 2.57 era before the contest.

Early on in the game hits were hard to come by as Chirinos and Harris took care of most of the hitters they faced.

In the fifth inning the Rays were able to get some offense going as Jose Siri lead off the inning with a double. After Taylor Walls flew out Manuel Margot got a base hit sending home Siri which made it 1-0 Rays.

With Robert Stephenson on the mound Oakland was able to get something going as Jace Peterson was walked in the top of the seventh inning. Then with the packed crowd on their feet Brent Rooker was able to send him home with a double. The crowd which had already been loud all night with “sell the team” chants had now erupted in celebration.

At this point in the game Harris was still in and was able to get out of a tough jam in the top of the eight.

In the bottom of the eight Laureano got the A’s going with a single to center field. Jonah Bride then helped advance him to second base on a sacrifice bunt. Laureano then attempted to steal third and was called safe but the Rays decided to challenge. That challenge ended up being unsuccessful and the next batter Carlos Perez was able to get him home on a ground out bringing the score to 2-1.

Then it all came down to the top of ninth which would be Trevor May’s inning to finish the game. May’s entrance into the game got off to a rocky start after getting one out as he walked Randy Arozarena. Arozarena then tried to steal second but was caught and tagged out despite the play being reviewed by the umpires. With two outs May walked Paredes but was able to strikeout Siri getting the A’s their seventh win in a row.

Not to be overlooked was Harris’s performance in tonights game as he pitched seven innings only giving up one hit, one earned run and striking out two batters.

Also the attendance for tonights game was 27,759 showing that the reverse boycott was quite the success.

The A’s will look to bring their winning streak up to eight games as they play the Ray’s tomorrow at home at 6:40 p.m.

The San Francisco Giants looked to win two straight games against the St. Louis Cardinals Tuesday night. The Giants defeated the Cardinals 11-3 at Busch Stadium. San Francisco improved to 35-32, while St. Louis dropped to 27-41.

Before the game, San Francisco wished their assistant coach, Alyssa Nakken, a Happy 33rd Birthday. Nakken’s a boundary-breaking coach who became the first woman to coach in an MLB regular season game in April 2022.

The Giants’ starting lineup featured LaMonte Wade Jr., Thairo Estrada, Joc Pederson, J.D. Davis, Michael Conforto, Mitch Haniger, Mike Yastrzemski, Patrick Bailey, Brandon Crawford, and Alex Cobb. Cobb pitched four innings and gave up five hits, two earned runs, two walks, and five strikeouts.

The first inning ended in a 2-2 tie.

The Giants got on the board in the top of the first inning. Michael Conforto doubled on a sharp fly ball to Tommy Edman. Thairo Estrada and Joc Pederson scored for a 2-0 lead.

The Cardinals tied the ballgame in the bottom of the first inning. Paul Goldschmidt singled on a ground ball to Conforto but deflected by LaMonte Wade Jr. Brenden Donovan scored to cut the Giants’ lead in half, 2-1. Dylan Carlson grounded to a force-out, and Thairo Estrada went to Brandon Crawford. Goldschmidt tied the game 2-2 as Nolan Gorman went to third base, Nolan Arenado was out at second base, and Carlson went to first base with two outs.

The Giants regained their lead in the top of the third inning, but they had to overcome some adversity. The Cardinals challenged Michael Conforto’s play for a tag play, but their call was overturned. Conforto singled on a line drive to Jordan Walker. Joc Pederson scored for a 3-2 lead as J.D. Davis was out at third base on the throw, and Walker went to Nolan Arenado with two outs.

The Giants poured in the runs in the top of the fifth inning. Casey Schmitt singled on a ground ball to Dylan Carlson. Blake Sabol scored for a 4-2 lead as Michael Conforto went to third base. Patrick Bailey singled on a line drive to Carlson. Schmitt scored to make it 5-2, as Mike Yastrzemski went to third base. Brandon Crawford was out on a sacrifice bunt as Genesis Cabrera went to Paul Goldschmidt. Yastrzemski scored to extend the Giants’ lead to 6-2 as Bailey went to second base with two outs.

The Giants extended their lead in the top of the sixth inning. Mike Yastrzemski homered on a line drive to left-center field. Michael Conforto scored for an 8-2 lead. Patrick Bailey homered on a line drive to left field to expand the lead to 9-2.

The Cardinals scored in the bottom of the eighth inning, but it was “too little, too late.” Jordan Walker doubled on a ground ball to Blake Sabol. Willson Contreras scored to cut the Giants’ lead to 9-3 as Dylan Carlson went to third base.

The Giants expanded their lead to double digits in the top of the ninth inning. Thairo Estrada singled on a soft ground ball to Tommy Edman. Brandon Crawford scored for a 10-3 lead as LaMonte Wade Jr. went to third base. Blake Sabol was out on a sacrifice fly to Dylan Carlson. Wade Jr. scored for an 11-3 lead as Thairo Estrada went to third base with one out.

The Giants and Cardinals will close their series on Wednesday, June 14, at 10:15 am Pacific.

Oakland A’s podcast with Titus Wilkinson: It’s a safe bet Fisher won’t sell; Senate passes the bill with Assembly next to vote on Vegas ballpark

Oakland A’s fans will be wearing their green “Sell” T shirts on Tue Jun 13, 2023 on Reverse Boycott night. This fan is sitting behind a sign with pictures of MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred, A’s president David Kaval, and A’s owner John Fisher at the Oakland Coliseum during a previous game. (USA Today file photo)

On the Oakland A’s podcast with Titus Wilkinson:

#1 Tonight’s thriller is predicted to be close to a sell out for the “Sell” T Shirts A’s fans who are attendance before the Tampa Bay Rays and Oakland A’s at the Oakland Coliseum. Fans are trying to make a statement tonight for A’s owner John Fisher to sell the team.

#2 That won’t happen anytime soon as Fisher is hoping to move his club to Las Vegas. That came a little closer tonight with the Nevada Senate voting in favor of building a park on the Vegas Strip.

#3 Back on the field the A’s brought a five game win streak to Monday night’s game at the Coliseum after return from winning two out of three in Pittsburgh and a three game sweep in Milwaukee and played a mostly scoreless game against the Tampa Bay Rays on Monday that later became a one run game.

#4 One of the keys during the A’s win streak is they were getting some much needed pitching once you have that in place they were able to stay ahead and not look over their shoulders.

#5 Titus, the Rays and the A’s match up tonight in game 2 of this four game series the Rays started Jalen Beeks (2-3 ERA 6.12) and for the A’s right hander Shintaro Fujinami (3-6 ERA 11.12) pitched an inning and was replaced by Hogan Harris a 6:40 pm PT first pitch at the Coliseum.

Oakland A’s podcast with Stephen Ruderman: Senate passes A’s ballpark bill 13-8; Assembly to vote next; A’s fans reverse boycott at Coliseum

Las Vegas A’s Tropicana Hotel and Casino Ballpark near the Las Vegas Strip under the lights (Renderings from the Oakland A’s)

On the A’s podcast with Stephen Ruderman:

The Nevada State Senate passed SB1 the Oakland A’s ballpark at Tropicana Hotel and Casino on the Las Vegas Strip worth $380 million in tax credits. The next step is the 42 person Nevada Assembly who could take a vote as early as tonight and if that were to happen they’d send the bill to Nevada Governor Joe Lombardo’s desk.

The passing of the bill comes at the same time as the A’s fans reverse boycott a protest to show that the A’s fans are not the fault for the A’s having no choice to move. The chances now minimal that the A’s and Mayor Sheng Thao will come back to the table to negotiate a deal for Howard Terminal.

The mood at the Oakland Coliseum on Tuesday night was melancholy as A’s fans who were waring their green “Sell” shirts but from the looks of things that A’s owner John Fisher is not selling the team soon but just about to move them out of Oakland.

The new park in Las Vegas could see the start of construction as soon as 2024 and the project would be finished as late as 2029. The ballpark is to be built on nine acres with a retractable roof and home plate is facing the Las Vegas Airport and the renderings show that home plate faces the strip.

The MLB owners are scheduled to vote on the A’s relocation after Governor Lombardo signs SB1 bill and the MLB owners vote could be before Jun 15th this week. The A’s who were questioned about their community fund raising during the Nevada Assembly team vice president Catherine Aker said the A’s spent $1.1 million in community fund efforts in Oakland and hope to do more community fund drives in Las Vegas.

MLB The Show podcast with Mauricio Segura: A’s fan reverse boycott tonight; Rangers deGrom still out with elbow injury; plus more

Oakland A’s fans display “Sell” T shirts at the Oakland Coliseum. The A’s fans are planning a reverse boycott to show that the A’s have their support in Oakland and it is their hope that it would impact MLB so that they might rethink allowing the A’s to move from Oakland to Las Vegas (USA Today photo)

On the MLB The Show podcast with Mauricio Segura:

#1 Oakland A’s fans have made the top headlines from coast to coast the battle cry is one word as they hand out green t shirts that say “Sell” on them. They plan to hold a reverse boycott tonight handing out the T shirts to the first 7,000 fans at the Oakland Coliseum. It’s been reported that this contest is sold out.

#2 Mauricio, after the Milwaukee Brewers were swept by the Oakland A’s in three games they have fallen from first to second and are now one game behind the Pittsburgh Pirates it has to be surprising circumstances for the Brewers who had the last place A’s come into American Family Field and sweep them in their own park.

#3 Texas Rangers pitcher Jacob deGrom who clocked pitches 99.4, 99.5, 99.7, 100.1 and 101.0. On opening day deGrom lasted just 73 pitches later he was taken out and had to have elbow surgery. deGrom has a five year $185 million deal and there could be some fear the Rangers will be on the hook for the money if deGrom is damaged goods.

#4 Mauricio, talk about three All Stars who will be making their first appearance at the mid summer classic this July first Atlanta Braves catcher Sean Murphy who hitting .287, 54 hits, 12 homers and 42 RBIs, from the Tampa Bay Rays Yandy Diaz .313, 65 hits, 12 home runs, 34 RBIs, and third from the St Louis Cardinals Nolan Gorman .257, 52 hits, 15 home runs, and 46 RBIs.

OAKLAND–On this day in 1899, the Cleveland Spiders lost to the Pittsburgh Pirates, 5-3, in front of an estimated 100 paying customers in the Steel City’s Exhibition Park. The loss gave the Spiders a season’s record of 8-36, .182.

On this day in 1962, the New York Mets, dropped a 3-2 decision in Houston when their fellow first year expansion team, the Colt 45s, walked them off, 3-2, leaving the visiting Metropolitans at 16-39, 2.91.

On this day, the Oakland Athletics extended their winning streak to six, defeating the Tampa Bay Rays in a tense 4-3 battle and winding up the day at 18-50, .265. The green and gold may yet escape the ignominy of winding up the season with the worst winning percentage in major league history and have to settle for only having the worst one in what’s called the modern era.

The A’s starting pitcher, James Kaprielian, came to work a 1-6, 7.21, but he pitched well in his last outing, getting the win in the Athletics’ 11-2 shellacking of the Pirates at Three Rivers Stadium on June 6 . He went six innings and threw 101 pitches and gave up both of Pittsburgh’s runs, only one of which was earned, on five hits and a walk.

Tonight, he pitched well for five shutout innings before melting down and yielding three runs, all earned, in the sixth. He allowed a total of five hits , one a homer, and three walks during his tenure, striking out four. His pitch count reached 93, 64 going into the books as strikes. His ERA fell to 6.89. He earned the win, making his won-lost record 2-6.

Tampa Bay’s opening moundsman was Zach Elfin, boasting an 8-1, 2.97 record over 11 starts in 2023. His last appearance also was on the sixth, when he held the Twins to three hits over 6-2/3 frames. The Rays won that game, 7-0, so you don’t have to ask about his runs or earned runs allowed.

The AL East leading Rays and the subcellar dwelling Athletics matched zeroes over and Jonah Bride opened the bottom of the fifth with walks. Jace Peterson followed with a single that Randy Arozarena bobbled in left, but Rooker stopped at third, which gave the A’s a golden opportunity but no cigar.

Tampa Bay looked as if they might escape the East Bay threat when Kevin Smith grounded into a 5-2 force out. But Shea Langeliers came through with a bases clearing triple to deep center, and Ryan Noda’s single to center brought him home with the home team’s fourth tally.

That spelled “el fin” for Elfin. He had lasted a mere 4-2/3 innings and surrendered four runs, all earned, on five hits, and two bases on balls. He threw 94 pitches, 58 for strikes, and his ERA ballooned to 3.26. He was charged with the loss, his second against eight victories this season.

Kevin Kelly closed the door on the A’s in the fifth and put them down in order in the sixth

The A’s outburst didn’t keep Tampa Bay from narrowing their deficit to 4-3. Kaprielian yielded a bunt single to Luke Raley and a walk to Josh Lowe. both of whom scored on José Siri’s homer over the 408 foot sign in the top of the sixth.

Ken Waldichuk replaced Kaprielian on the mound for the top of the seventh and survived a runners on the corners with two doon threat to pitch a scoreless inninng.

Shawn Armstrong took over for the St. Petersburg crew after the intimate gathering finished singing “Take Me Out to the Ball Game.” He set the Rays down in order, fanning two of them.

It was Robert Stephenson who pitched a 1-2-3 bottom of the eighth for Tampa Bay

Waldichuk stuck around to face the Rays in the top of the ninth. He struck out Taylor Walls on a checked swing called third strike., retired Christian Bethancourt on a ground out to short, and finished the job with a gr0under to second that earned Waldichuk his first career save.

A large crowd is expected for tomorrow, Tuesday’s, 6:40 game, in which the Rays will send Hogan Harris (1-0, 6.46) against an Oakland hurler yet to be named. The crowd is not expected because of the promise that the A’s will continue their recent winning ways but because tomorrow is the night of the counter boycott.

Another Comeback Win For the Giants Beating St. Louis 4-3

Another Comeback Win For the Giants Beating St. Louis 4-3

By Barbara Mason

Sunday at Oracle Park in San Francisco the San Francisco Giants fans not only got a great win over the Cubs 13-3 but in the ninth inning they got to see SS Brandon Crawford take the mound allowing a single hit. Crawford pitched the final inning in the blowout win and became the only shortstop in MLB with a career 0.00 ERA.

Monday the Giants (34-32) traveled to St. Louis (27-40) and took the first game of the three game series 4-3 against the St Louis Cardinals at Busch Stadium. Logan Webb took the mound for the Giants with a solid 3.09 ERA. Matthew Liberatore was on the hill for the Cardinals with a 6.00 ERA.

San Francisco took a 2-0 lead in the third inning. Austin Slater scored when J.D. Davis grounded out to third. There would be one more run for the Giants when Mitch Haniger doubled and Thairo Estrada scored for the Giants second run.

The Cardinals scored a couple of home runs, one in the fifth inning and one in the sixth Paul De Jong had a solo shot in the sixth and St. Louis would follow that up in the seventh with a Paul Goldschmidt two run home run to take a 3-2 lead.

In the seventh inning the Giants tied up the game 3-3. Mitch Haniger singled in Wilmer Flores. San Francisco would follow that inning with another run in the eighth inning to take a 4-3 lead. Patrick Bailey scored on a Brandon Crawford single.

Going into the bottom of the ninth, the Giants were three outs away from the win. They got two quick outs on a double play. Tommy Edman walked and the Cardinals were hanging on looking for a walk off. Brendan Donovan was hit by a pitch and the Cardinals had two on and two out. It was a nervous finish for the Giants but San Francisco got the job done.

Logan Webb went seven innings allowing seven hits and three runs. He had six strikeouts.

Tuesday’s game two is scheduled to start at 4:45 PM. Alex Cobb will take the mound with an impressive 5-2 win/loss record and a 3.01 ERA. Jack Flaherty will be on the hill for the Cardinals with a 3-4 win/loss record and a 4.15 ERA.

That’s Amaury News and Commentary podcast: Oakland A’s Nevada Assembly vote could be razor close

From left to right Jeremy Aguero, Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority President and Chief Executive Officer Steve Hill, and A’s President David Kaval, at the 35th Special Session of the Legislature regarding SB1 the $380 million in public funds for the Tropicana Ballpark in Las Vegas on Jun 7, 2023. The second special session reconvenes on Mon Jun 12, 2023 (Nevada Independent photo)

On That’s Amaury News and Commentary podcast:

#1 The Nevada State Assembly are suppose to meet and vote today on SB1 the Tropicana ballpark initiative that will send the bill to the senate for another vote. Sources say that the votes are close the legislation were suppose to vote last Thursday but that vote was adjourned and now it’s supposed to be today.

#2 This is a second special session do you think the reason for the hold up on the vote is because some in the assembly are under pressure to get this bill through while other assembly people are holding out because they don’t want to vote for a $385 million bill that helps pay for a ballpark with public money?

#3 One of the other questions that has been weighing heavy was if the A’s were to get the Las Vegas ballpark they need to meet selling out every game plus concerts or shows at the Tropicana venue to meet the annual payments to pay for the ballpark. How big of an ask is to say that every game and every concert at the A’s Las Vegas ballpark needs to be sold out to meet the economic need?

#4 The issue of government involvement from Congresswoman Barbara Lee who represents Oakland and Alameda County the 12th Congressional District wrote a letter saying that she and many of her constituents are frustrated that MLB and the Oakland A’s failed to deal in good faith and that they had a deal with Oakland Mayor Sheng Thao that was almost ten percent complete.

#5 The A’s walked away saying they had a binding deal in Las Vegas fast forward they have moved again from the Wild Wild West location to the Tropicana location. Could congress make a move saying the A’s and MLB failed to let the process of the Howard Terminal deal works its way through but dropped the deal and took the offer in Vegas.
