Las Vegas Raiders cornerback Amik Robertson (21) raises a fist in victory over the New York Giants at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas on Sun Nov 5, 2023 (@Raiders photo)

Las Vegas Raiders podcast with Rich Perez:

#1 Rich, after two long weeks the Las Vegas Raiders (4-5) are back in the win column ending their two game losing streak with a victory over the New York Giants (2-7) at Allegiant Stadium.

#2 The Raiders got some great work from rookie quarterback Aidan O’Connell under center going 16-24 for 209 yards.

#3 The Raiders also got some crucial rushing from running back Josh Jacobs who carried 92 yards, 23 times and with two touchdowns.

#4 The Raiders dominated the Giants on defense only allowing New York to get on the scoreboard in the fourth quarter. The Giants had been shutout for three quarters.

#5 The New York Jets (4-3) come calling to Vegas next Sun Nov 12th at Allegiant Stadium. The Jets defeated the Giants in their last game on Sun Oct 29 in a narrow field goal difference 13-10. The Jets host the Los Angeles Chargers (3-4) on Monday Night Football and turn around and head to Allegiant Stadium next Sunday for a short six day week.

Las Vegas Raiders podcast with Rich Perez: Nine games remaining taking a look how coach Pierce will handle it the rest of the way

Interim head coach Antonio Pierce will walk the sidelines for the Las Vegas Raiders starting this Sun Nov 5, 2023 against the New York Giants at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas (USA Today file photo)

On the LV Raiders podcast with Rich Perez:

#1 The Las Vegas Raiders got to work in the wee hours of Wednesday morning in making coaching changes at head coach, quarterback coach, offensive coordinator, and general manager. Rich first wanted to get your reaction on the firings of former head coach Josh McDaniels and general manager Dave Ziegler.

#2 The Raiders were 3-5 after last Monday Night’s loss to the Detroit Lions. The Raiders only were able to coup 157 total yards and quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo was sacked six times. After a game like that owner Mark Davis didn’t waste anytime deciding to make changes.

#3 The Raiders have had their share of tough games but one of the added features to these firings has to be from the reaction that wide receiver Devante Adams displayed when he fired his helmet down in front of the Raiders bench when the offense just wasn’t getting anything going in the second half.

#4 Rich, tell us about your thoughts on interim head coach Antonio Pierce who was the Raiders linebackers coach. Did he pretty much get selected because he was a good motivator, someone who the players respected on and off the field and a coach who can make the difference in the remaining nine games.

#5 Did McDaniels seem to lose the team after getting clobbered by the Chicago Bears, this recent loss on Monday night to the Lions, and how some of the offensive play calling came into question?

Pierce named interim head coach; Raiders Fire Head Coach Josh McDaniels and General Manager Dave Ziegler

Interim head coach Antonio Pierce is taking over for the recently fired Josh McDaniels as the Las Vegas Raiders were making changes at head coach, general manager, quarterback coach, and offensive coordinator on Wed Nov 1, 2023 (@AdamSchefter X Photo)

By Barbara Mason

Wednesday morning the Las Vegas Raiders were making headlines for all the wrong reasons. This team has been been struggling for awhile now and Monday’s game was the straw that broke the camel’s back.

It was a horrendous showing from top to bottom and so the Raiders cleared the board firing head coach Josh McDaniels, general manager Dave Ziegler and offensive coordinator Mike Lombardi. When these guys were hired they were expected to take the team to the next level. They did indeed take a step, unfortunately, in the wrong direction.

It seems that McDaniels is more suited to an offensive coordinator role. He was also fired from his head coach duties with the Denver Broncos in less than two years.

McDaniels did, however, have great success with the New England Patriots winning six Super Bowls rings but as offensive coordinator. The offensive success he had in New England never translated to Las Vegas which led to some of the most embarrassing losses in Raider franchise history.

The Las Vegas Raiders lost to the Detroit Lions on Monday Night Football in a game that they, quite frankly, had opportunity to have won. Something is not clicking with quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo and some blame has to go to the quarterback coach Bo Hardegree.

After the Garoppolo misfires Sunday as well as the questionable effort on both sides of the ball the Raiders are taking swift action promoting Hardegree, former quarterback coach, to offensive coordinator in an effort to stop the bleeding as the Raiders dropped to a 3-5 season record.

Not long after the McDaniels and Ziegler firings the Raiders fired offensive coordinator Mick Lombardi. Hardegree will replace Lombardi. Lombard’s 31st per game for eight weeks in NFL offensive ranking was part of the reason for the dismissal.

Lombardi as offensive coordinator posted 30th in points scored per game with 15.8. On Monday Night Football the Raiders had only 157 yards against the Lions. The Lions had 486 total yards against the Raiders. Lombardi was in his second year with the Raiders after stints with the San Francisco 49ers and New York Jets as an assistant. Lombardi also was the quarterbacks coach for the New England Patriots.

New head coach and general manager: The man stepping into a most difficult situation has been named. The new interim head coach for the Raiders is linebacker coach Antonio Pierce. Champ Kelly will serve as interim general manager. Once this season is over the team will be doing an in depth search committed to finding the right fit for the Raiders.

Pierce will make his NFL head-coaching debut this Sunday against the 2-6 New York Giants. This will be an interesting match-up considering that Pierce won a Super Bowl as a player in 2007 with the Giants. He will be the eighth different head coach, interim or regular, since October 2011.

The Las Vegas statistics for the 2023 season are about as grim as you could imagine. They are No. 31 in total offense, No. 32 in rushing yards per game and rank 30th in points per game. The talented Davante Adams and Josh Jacobs have been underused at the receiver and running back positions which is absolutely insane.

Jacobs was the NFL’s rushing leader and has been insignificant this season. Adams only had 1 catch for 11 yards against the Lions on Monday’s game in Detroit and was understandably livid on the sidelines.

Neither of these guys have been used in a way to maximize their talent. Another former Pro Bowl player slot receiver Hunter Renfrow had been underutilized with only ten receptions so far this season after catching 103 in 2021.

This will be a tough time for the team going forward. The change at the Head Coach position is always difficult and especially when it happens during the season. With so much undervalued talent the hopes are that they can somehow turn this season around and put a better product on the field with these difficult changes.

Something has to give at the quarterback position as well as the offensive front line. If the front line cannot efficiently do their job neither can their quarterback. There is so much to be addressed it makes your head spin and these new coaches will certainly have their hands full.

As this drama unfolds all eyes will be on Pierce this Sunday as the Las Vegas Raiders take on the New York Giants at Allegiant Stadium. It is very hard to imagine things going any worse for this team. It has certainly reached it’s pinnacle of setbacks. It will not happen overnight but there still remains hope for an improved performance on the field starting this Sunday afternoon in Las Vegas.

Las Vegas Raiders podcast with Rich Perez: Raiders Garoppolo sacked 6 times; Detroit stops Vegas offense

Detroit Lions tight end Sam LaPorta (87) is in the end zone after making a 18 yard catch against the Las Vegas Raiders on Monday Night Football Oct 30, 2023 at Ford Field in Detroit (AP News photo)

On the Raiders podcast with Rich Perez:

#1 The Las Vegas Raiders had numerous opportunities in their Monday night game against the Detroit Lions. They were unable to capitalize on any of them partially due to the lackluster game from Raiders quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo.

#2 Garoppolo was sacked six times and had some heart-breaking misses in the 26-14 loss to Detroit.

#3 Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs ran on the Raiders for 26 carries, 152 yards, and one touchdown and quarterback Jerod Goff was 26-37 for 272 yards, one touchdown and one interception.

#4 It was a terrible showing for Garoppolo passing 10 of 21 for 126 yards and one interception. He is overthrowing the ball with regularity.

#5 New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones is dealing with a neck injury and has only two touchdowns for this season. Giants back up quarterback Tyrod Taylor has a rib cage injury after three games. The Giants and Raiders meet at Allegiant Stadium this Sun Nov 5th at 1:25pm PT kickoff.

Las Vegas Raiders podcast with Tony Renteria: Lions Gibbs TD and Goff’s passing enough to put away Raiders

Detroit Lions wide receiver Amon-Ra St Brown (14) feels the impact of Las Vegas Raiders safety Tre’von Moehrig (25) and is pushed out of bounds during the first half at Ford Field in Detroit on Mon Oct 30, 2023 (AP News photo)

On the Raiders podcast with Tony R:

#1 Tony offensively the Raiders just couldn’t get anything going against the Detroit Lions at Ford Field in Detroit. The Raiders were able to get a touchdown in each of the second and third quarters but it was not enough.

#2 Talk about Raiders quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo who scrambled all night and was sacked six times. Was this from holding on the ball too long or not getting enough protection.

#3 Running back Josh Jacobs carried for 61 yards and picked up a touchdown but didn’t get enough chances to do any damage.

#4 Talk about Davante Adams who had been complaining about not getting enough touches. On receiving he caught one pass for 11 yards and didn’t score a touchdown. Adams got angry and threw his helmet. He’s been frustrated in most of these Raider loses.

#5 Tony, Talk about the New York Giants coming in next. They’ve gone through two quarterbacks Daniel Jones has a neck injury and back up quarterback Tyrod Taylor has a rib cage injury. The Giants much like the Raiders are suffering and come into Allegiant Stadium with a 2-6 record. Kickoff for this Sun Nov 5th at 1:25pm PT. How do you see this match up?

Jimmy Garoppolo Sacked Six Times In Loss to Detroit 26-14

Detroit Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs (26) carries the football against the Las Vegas Raiders safety Tre’von Moehig (25) in second half at Ford Field in Detroit on Mon Oct 30, 2023 (AP News photo)

By Barbara Mason

The Las Vegas Raiders had numerous opportunities in their Monday night game against the Detroit Lions. They were unable to capitalize on any of them partially due to the lackluster game from Raiders quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo. He was sacked six times and had some heart-breaking misses in the 26-14 loss to Detroit.

Monday night the Las Vegas Raiders (3-5) took on the Detroit Lions (6-2) on the national stage. The Raiders are coming off a loss to the Chicago Bears 30-12. The Lions who have been having a great season got stomped last week by the Baltimore Ravens 38-6 in a real shocker both games on Sun Oct 22. Both of these teams were desperate to win this game and the Lions got back on the winning track. The Raiders wanted to even their season record but just couldn’t do it at Ford Field in Detroit.

Game recap: It was a very quiet first quarter and after the first 15 minutes the Lions had a 3-0 lead. The Raiders squandered a great opportunity to put points up on the board as the clock began to wind down on the first quarter. The Raider’s defense, who made some great plays in this game, forced a lion fumble deep in Detroit territory with 45 seconds left in the opening quarter.

Las Vegas did not take advantage of a great scoring opportunity when quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo threw an interception giving the ball right back to the Lions. This was his ninth interception of the season. He leads the league in interceptions, a distinction no quarterback want to entertain.

The Lions continued to extend their lead in the second quarter. They kicked two more field goals in the quarter, giving them a 9-0 lead but had not been able to find the end zone. The Raiders cut into Detroits lead with five minutes left in the half 9-7 and Las Vegas had some life. Josh Jacobs rushed for three yards and the touchdown. Two minutes later however, the Lions extinguished that life with their first touchdown of the game extending their lead 16-7 going into half time.

The Raiders got a great start in the early going of the third quarter. Marcus Peters intercepted the ball for a 75 yard return and the Raiders second touchdown of the day. The Lions were hanging onto a slim 16-14 lead. With three minutes left in the third quarter, the Lions pushed right back scoring their second touchdown of the game, now leading 23-14.

The opportunities that the Raiders had in this game were numerous. The fourth quarter was painful to watch. There was obvious lack of protection for Garoppolo in the second half. He was sacked 6 times and missed a wide open Davante Adams in the fourth quarter. Adams was visibly upset on the sidelines after that missed pass throwing his helmet in frustration.

It has been a tough go for the talented Adams who has not been targeted very much at all this season. That miss cost the Raiders the game; it nailed the coffin shut. The Lions had three turnovers in this game and despite that still won.

It was a terrible showing for Garoppolo passing 10 of 21 for 126 yards and one interception. He is overthrowing the ball with regularity. Defensive wonder Max Crosby had some great tackles but without much scoring going on it’s rather futile. There was only one offensive touchdown in the game for the Raiders, the second touchdown coming from a Las Vegas interception.

It’s hard to say where the Raiders go from here. The defense has had some great moments but the offense has struggled mightily and seem to look worse and worse as the season wears on. This team is no stranger to losing and it now seems to be ingrained. How a team breaks out of a mindset such as Las Vegas is currently experiencing is not easy.

The Raiders will travel home for a date next Sunday with another struggling team, the New York Giants. New York quarterback Daniel Jones has only had two touchdowns this season but was out of action with a neck injury that sidelined him for the past three games. His backup Tyrod Taylor started in those three games but he was injured in the third game with a rib cage injury. The Giants are dealing with a lot right now much as the Raiders are. Jones is expected to start in next Sunday’s game. Kickoff for this game is scheduled for Sunday at 1:25 PM.

Las Vegas Raiders podcast with Tony Renteria: Bears Bagent leads offense in landslide win over Raiders; Raiders prepare for Lions this Sunday

Chicago Bears rookie quarterback Tyson Bagent led the offense with three touchdown drives against the Las Vegas Bears at Soldier Field in Chicago on Sun Oct 22, 2023 (AP News photo)

On the Las Vegas Raiders podcast with Tony Renteria:

#1 It took a rookie back up quarterback on the Chicago Bears to hand the Las Vegas Raiders a convincing 30-12 loss. Tyson Bagent ran the offense for three touchdowns and scored one himself.

#2 Tony we talked about how Bagent ran the offense how off balance were the Raiders defense in trying to stop Bagent and have decent prevent defense?

#3 For a first start how impressive was Bagent as he was filling in for Justin Fields. Bagent going 21-29 for 162 yards and one touchdown.

#4 The Raiders started Brian Hoyer and lost a landslide game after winning back to back games against Green Bay and New England this one had to sting a bit how badly do the Raiders miss starter Jimmy Garoppolo in the line up?

#5 The Raiders head for Detroit this weekend to take on the Detroit Lions at Ford Field. The Lions suffered they’re second loss of the season now 5-2 after losing in almost similar style of the Raiders in a landslide the Baltimore Ravens 38-6. How do you see these two teams matching up this Sunday?

Raiders Lack of Offense Is Huge Part of Loss to Chicago Bears 30-12

Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Brian Hoyer threw for 129 yards with no touchdowns and two interceptions against the Chicago Bears at Soldier Field in Chicago on Sun Oct 22, 2023 (AP News photo)

By Barbara Mason

The Las Vegas Raiders lack of offense was a huge part of the loss they suffered Sunday against the struggling Chicago Bears at Soldier Field in Chicago. The poor offense was overshadowed by the defense which struggled all afternoon. They were unable to stop the rushing game that the Bears brought today. Chicago ran right through the Raider defense which appeared to be helpless against the ground offense of the Bears. The final was 30-12 with the Bears coming out on top

Sunday afternoon the Raiders (3-4) traveled to Soldier Field to take on the Bears (2-5). Both teams have had their struggles and the Raiders are still without quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo. He will miss todays’ game but is expected to play next week.

The first half was all Bears. Chicago took the first lead of the game in the early minutes of the first quarter. The Bears D’Onta Foreman rushed for two yards and the touchdown, the first of two rushing scores for Chicago in the first half.

Foreman had his second touchdown of the day in the second quarter; this one a three yard scamper extending their lead to 14-0. The Raiders finally got on the scoreboard in the second quarter, a 40 yard Field Goal but had a lot of work to do in the second half.

The Bears took a 14-3 lead into the locker room at halftime. The Chicago rushing game was averaging five yards per carry and they were tearing the Raider’s defense apart.

Las Vegas got the ball to start the third quarter. The flow of this game was clearly being dictated by the Chicago offense especially their running game. The Raiders could not stop them as the Bears ran roughshod all over the Las Vegas defense in the third quarter.

The Bears D’Onta Foreman had his third touchdown of the game at 4:04, this one a five yard pass from quarterback Tyson Bagent and a Chicago lead 21-3. The Raiders were struggling not only defensively but also offensively in this lopsided affair.

The Raiders Daniel Carlson got their second field goal of the game in the early minutes of the fourth quarter, a 25 Yarder but with the score now 21-6 the Raiders desperately needed touchdowns; field goals would hardly make a dent in the score. The Bears kicked a field goal at 5:46, a 54 yard kick taking a 24-6 lead as they kept pounding the Las Vegas defense.

Things went from bad to worse in the final quarter. The Bears had a pick six in the closing minutes of the fourth quarter taking 30-6 lead. The extra point was blocked. This was the third interception of the day for the Bears defense.

A late touchdown for the Raiders was the only bright spot of the day. At 1:10 Aiden O’Connell (who took the field in place of Brian Hoyer) threw a nine yard pass to Jacoby Meyers for the score. The two point conversion would fail (their second failed 2-point conversion attempt of the day). Hoyer had two interceptions and O’Connell had one. With 3:44 left on the game clock Chicago was simply trying to run the clock out and win their second game of the season. The Bears held on for the 30-12 win. The Raiders dropped to 3-4 and the Bears now have a 2-5 season record.

The Raiders will certainly welcome Garoppolo back on the field next week. This was a game that many thought would be a manageable one for the team. This game went sideways from the get go for the Raiders. Turnovers, lack of offense and the inability to stop the run was a recipe for disaster for Las Vegas.

They were 1 of 8 on third downs and the three turnovers did not help at all. Hoyer was 17 of 32 with a mere 129 yards. O’Connell was 10 of 13 for 75 yards and one touchdown for a total of 196 passing yards for the Raiders. Their rushing numbers were anemic with only 39 total yards.

The win for the Bears was their first win at home since September 25, 2022. This was their longest losing streak in franchise history.

Next week the Raiders will take on the NFC North leaders the Detroit Lions in a very short week when they play on Monday night football. The Lions came into today’s game against the Baltimore Ravens with a 5-1 record and got trounced losing 38-6. So much for winning records. Both of these teams will be looking to get back on track next Monday on the national platform. Las Vegas does not want to play a second game the likes of today’s game. It was a pure embarrassment. Kickoff for this game is scheduled for 5:15 PM PT.

Pick six in fourth

Las Vegas Raiders podcast with Rich Perez: Raiders Hoyer struggles as Chicago’s defense Bears down

Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Devonte Adams seen here taking in some running practice back on Oct 15, 2023 vs. New England said he hasn’t been getting enough passes thrown to him and on Sun Oct 22, 2023 in Chicago he got 7 receptions for 57 yards in a landslide loss to the Chicago Bears (AP News photo)

On the Las Vegas Raiders podcast with Rich:

#1 Rich, the Raiders (3-4) struggled with very little offense today in Chicago (2-6) in a 30-12 loss. Talk about how much protection a little protection that Raiders quarterback Brian Hoyer got today?

#2 Hoyer didn’t get too much yardage he was looking for his key receivers Jakobi Meyers and Davonte Adams didn’t get as much as one touchdown pass.

#3 Rich, the same could be said for rushing none of the key running backs Josh Jacobs, Zamir White, or Tre Tucker got much ground. Tell us how successful the Bears were in sticking the Raiders running game?

#4 Raiders starter Jimmy Garoppolo is expected back in the line up for the Raiders next game at Ford Field in Detroit against the Detroit Lions (5-2) on Monday Night Football on Mon Oct 30th. How ready do you see him for Monday the 30th and how important was it for Garoppolo taking this week off.

#5 The Raiders face the Lions on the 30th and the Lions had a tough afternoon against the Baltimore Ravens (5-2). Pretty much the same issues the Raider had today on offense. The Lions quarterback Jared Goff couldn’t get anything going 30-43 for 261 yards and one touchdown but couldn’t get a lot of scoring to get past the Ravens. How do you see this Raiders-Lions match up on MNF?

Las Vegas Raiders podcast with Tony Renteria: McDaniels says Garoppolo’s  prognosis is better but could miss game in Chicago Sunday

Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo (10) is hit by the New England Patriots linebacker Jahlani Tavai in first half action at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas on Sun Oct 15, 2023 (AP News photo)

On the LV Raiders podcast with Tony Renteria:

#1 The Las Vegas Raiders (3-3) and head coach Josh McDaniels says he’s received encouraging news that quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo is getting better from his back injury he got last Sunday against the New England Patriots and had to leave the game.

#2 Garoppolo had to leave the game at half time in an ambulance to get his back checked out. According to McDaniels the back has improved and said that the Raiders will try and do all the right things before they move forward with Garoppolo.

#3 Garoppolo might still have to sit out against the Chicago Bears and he’ll be replaced by back up quarterback Brian Hoyer.

#4 Tony, just wanted to get your impressions of the job Hoyer did in the second half of the game throwing 102 yards and going 6 for 10 in passing.

#5 The Bears (1-5) have been struggling they lost their last game to the Minnesota Vikings 19-13. The Bears used quarterbacks Tyson Bagent and Justin Fields but just couldn’t get by the Vikings. How do you see this match up in Chicago for the Raiders this Sunday at 10:00AM PT?
