#1 The Los Angeles Angels hired former Texas Rangers manager Ron Washington to manage the Halos for the 2025 season. Washington a long time third base coach for the Oakland A’s and Atlanta Braves finally gets another opportunity to manage again.

#2 Washington is the one of two black managers in MLB the other is the Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts. Washington becomes the oldest manager in the big leagues.

#3 The Oakland A’s extended Mark Kotsay’s contract through 2025 despite the A’s having the worst record in baseball last season. Kotsay knew he would be fielding a team that would be consisting of rookies, free agents, draft picks and players that no team would promote and with that in mind that did rally around Kotsay and avoided tying or surpassing the 1962 New York Mets who has baseball’s worst record.

#4 After winning their first five games the San Francisco 49ers are on a three game loss streak going to Jacksonville to face the Jaguars who have won their last give games after losing their first three games. This could be seen as a pretty even match this Sunday.

#5 After 11 straight loses the San Jose Sharks turned it around on Tuesday night and defeated the Philadelphia Flyers in San Jose. The Sharks longest streak losing streak in their history. Sharks goaltender MacKenzie Blackwood said it was relief to finally have won a game and it’s a weight that has been lifted.

#1 After last Sunday’s loss to the Minnesota Vikings it was learned that San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy will be out this Sunday on concussion protocols.

#2 Another fun fact concerning the 49ers is when they are down by five points or more in the fourth quarter they are 0-29 under 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan. Was winning the first five games to start the season an aberration?

#3 Turning to baseball and the World Series the Houston Astros were mighty disappointed and the last game 7 in the ALCS turned out to be Astros manager Dusty Baker’s last game of his baseball career. He announced his retirement after the game calling the 162 season plus post season a grind.

#4 There is joy in Mudville today as the San Francisco Giants have signed former San Diego Padres and Oakland A’s manager Bob Melvin. Melvin had caught before as a player for the Giants and managed for the Padres where last season became a toxic working relationship between the Pads GM AJ Preller and Melvin.

#5 Jessica, lastly the Milwaukee Bucks and the Boston Celtics are favorites to win the NBA Championship according to sportsbooks around the country. The Celtics got some key help signing guard Jrue Holiday and the Milwaukee Bucks got Damian Lillard from the Portland Trailblazers. With Lillard now pairing up with power forward Giannis Antetokounmpo.

#1 Jessica, the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Pat Mahomes became the highest paid player in NFL history getting a $210.6 million four year deal Mahomes passes up Baltimore Ravens quarterback’s deal of $208 million which pays LaMar Jackson through 2026.

#2 Jerome Ford is the featured running back now for the Cleveland Browns after running back Nick Chubb got a season ending knee injury on Monday Night Football against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Chubb had to be carted off the field. Ford carried 16 times for 106 yards. Browns head coach Jeff Stefanski said you can’t replace a running back like Chubb and said everybody has to do a little bit more.

#3 New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll whose Giants are coming off a win against the Arizona Cardinals last Sunday after getting crushed at the Meadowlands the week before by the Dallas Cowboys 40-0. Daboll is trying to avoid benching Saquon Barkley who suffered an ankle injury from last Sunday’s game. Daboll said he hasn’t ruled Barkely out of the line up for Thursday night yet or not.

#4 New York Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson said that the 14 game losing streak against the New England Patriots is unacceptable. Wilson said on ESPN’s Bart and Hahn show that it’s time that things change around here. Wilson said he’s 0-2 against the Patriots. The Jets host the Patriots this Sunday and Wilson and the Jets will have their chance to snap that long skid.

#5 After playing in just 18 snaps the New Orleans Saints running back Jamaal Williams is out with a hamstring injury according to Saints head coach Dennis Allen. Williams left in the first half. The Saints are without running backs Alvin Kamara currently on a suspension and Kendre Miller is inactive. The Saints are now down to a practice squad running back Tony Jones Jr.

#1 Attorney Martin Singer said in statement that the Tuohy family did not trick NFL star Michael Oher into conservatorship and made claims to all the proceeds from his blockbuster film “The Blind Side.” The Tuohy family said they opened their doors to Oher and treated him like a son. A petition says that the Tuohy’s and their two birth children get paid $225,000 each plus 2.5% of the movie’s defined proceeds.

#2 It took only one pre season game for the Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson to convince Colts head coach Shane Steichen that Richardson would be the Colts starter,  “The growth he’s shown, then, obviously, going into Buffalo, playing against a lot of their starters, he showed great signs of improvement. I like the things he did.” said Steichen. Richardson threw for 7-12 for 67 yards on Sat Aug 12th.

#3 Despite the Tampa Bay Rays big scoring extravaganza on Monday night in San Francisco the Rays are down three key players starting with Franco Wander who is on the restriction list for the rest of the Rays road trip for having a social media relationship with a 14 year old girl, then the Rays have seen injuries to Shane McClanahan who will have Tommy John surgery and outfielder Manuel Margot who will have surgery to remove bone chips in his right elbow. Margot is expected to miss up to a month and could be back during the last two weeks of the regular season.

#4 Mookiemania took a whole new twist when fan Giuseppe Mancuso said to Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Mookie Wilson that he was going to give his daughter the name Mookie as her middle name. Mookie tried to tell Mancuso several times not to name his daughter Mookie and that his wife wouldn’t like that. Two weeks later Wilson saw that Mancuso in fact named his daughter Mookie as a middle name saying someday he would have to meet Francesca Mookie Mancuso saying “that’s my girl.”

#5 In last Sunday’s first pre season game in Las Vegas there were more red shirted fans for the San Francisco 49ers than there were Las Vegas Raiders fans. This was something that Raiders owner Mark Davis remarked about last season saying where were his Las Vegas fan base. Seems like the Raiders have been drawing more visiting team fans than the home town fans.

#1 Jessica, the Los Angeles Angels Shohei Ohtani is the hot commodity of the trade rumors. It has been rumored that the Angels want to keep Ohtani, if the Angels were to deal Ohtani he would not get traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers, San Francisco Giants, and San Diego Padres. He could be a rental or signed as a free agent with either the Baltimore Orioles and New York Yankees. Ohtani had expressed in the past he would like to stay on the west coast.

#2 A simple charge of misdemeanor assault has been assessed on Tennessee Titans linebacker Rashad Weaver. Weaver’s case was set to be heard on Tuesday. Weaver was accused of taking a woman by the throat and throwing her to the ground and she hit her head getting a concussion. According to records the prosecutor did not pursue charges against Weaver.

#3 San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey said that it was criminal that the New York Giants Saquon Barkley, Las Vegas Raiders Josh Jacobs, the Dallas Cowboys Tony Pollard all running backs did not receive contract extensions.

#4 Diamond Sports who streamed Arizona Diamondbacks games has filed for bankruptcy. MLB has stepped in and is now streaming games for the Diamondbacks. The Diamondbacks and Diamond Sports had a 20 year $1.5 billion deal. That contract started in 2015.

#5 The Charlotte Hornets forward Miles Bridges apologized for the pain he caused for domestic violence that kept him out last season. Bridges spoke for the first time since being suspended since signing his one year $7.9 million deal. Bridges was accused of assaulting the mother of his children with his children present.

#1 Jessica the Los Angeles Angels are feeling the pain literally. First the Angels outfielder Mike Trout was placed on the 10 day IL after getting hit in the left wrist while hitting fracturing his hamate bone. Trout is expected to be out of action for four to eight weeks. Anthony Rendon left Tuesday’s game with a left shin bruise after fouling a ball off of it x-rays proved negative and pitcher Shohei Ohtani left same game with a blister, Ohtani had to leave during his previous start due to a cracked fingernail.

#2 Protestors from Just Stop Oil  Deborah Wilde and Simon Milner-Edwards were escorted off the court after disrupting the between Sho Shimabukuro and Grigor Dimitrov as Dimitrov was about to serve. Both Wilde and Edwards got on Court 18 and showered it with orange confetti. Wimbledon officials were expecting some kind of protest and had stepped up security prior to the matches.

#3 After some 20 ESPN employees had been laid off the face of ESPN Stephen A Smith said he could be next. The World Wide Network in sports laid off high profile talent, Jalen Rose, Jeff Van Gundy, and Keyshawn Johnson last week and Smith raised the issue of race feared that he could draw the short straw saying that as a black person “when white people catch a cold black people catch pneumonia.”

#4 Jessica, MLB has announced replacements for injured players for New York Yankees Aaron Judge (toe), Los Angeles Dodgers Clayton Kershaw (sore shoulder), and Los Angeles Mike Trout ( broken hamate bone) with Astros’ Kyle Tucker, the Rays’ Wander Franco and the Pirates’ David Bednar, also Seattle fans will be thrilled to know that Mariners Julio Rodriguez and George Kirby will also be replacements.

#5 The NBA will introduce penalties against players who flop trying to get referees to call undeserved fouls or fool fans into thinking that referees missed a foul call by exaggerating the effect of contact with an opposing player. The penalty for the flop will access the opposing team with one free throw and the player who flopped will be hit with a non unsportsmanshiplike conduct technical foul.

#1 Many of the players in the PGA had no idea about the PGA-LIV merge and that a deal had been made without the players knowledge.

#2 A lot of the players are calling for new leadership after PGA Commissioner Jay Monahan agreed to a deal with LIV the Saudi golf league to merge. The PGA players have a huge problem with LIV because of it’s human rights violations and taking away many of it’s stars.

#3 The Miami Heat’s Jimmy Butler says that winning the NBA Finals would mean everything, this is Butler’s 12th NBA season Butler says his teammates are locked on. The Heat who dropped game 1 of the Finals came back and tied the series in game 2 in Denver. The Heat dropped game 3 and the Nuggets reclaimed the lead in the series 2-1 with a 109-94 victory on Wednesday.

#4 New York is suffering smoky conditions as smoke from the Canadian fires have floated into the Big Apple and had an impact on the Chicago White Sox and New York Yankees game on Tuesday night. For Yankee third baseman Josh Donaldson said that it was a little foggy but nothing out of the ordinary.

#5 Jessica, game 3 of the NHL Stanley Cup Finals are Thursday night in Sunrise Florida. The Panthers have their backs to the wall down 0-2 against the Vegas Golden Knights losing both games 1 and 2 in Vegas. The Panthers have been here before they were down in the first round of the playoffs to the Boston Bruins 3-1 and came back from two games down. How do you see the Panthers chances going back to Florida Thursday night?

#1 Los Angeles Lakers future Hall of Famer and star LeBron James did not show up for the Lakers practice facility the day after the Lakers were swept out of the playoffs by the Denver Nuggets. All players on the Lakers were present and accounted for except LeBron who said he’s taking time off to consider whether he will retire or not.

#2 New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rogers is having a great time with his new team but sat out of practice on Tuesday due to a minor calf muscle strain. Rogers is no doubt enjoying being on the Jets saying it’s like a “dream” so far.

#3 Jessica it looks as if Nick Nurse and Doc Rivers are the top contenders for the Phoenix Suns head coaching job. Nurse has also been mentioned as a top candidate for the Milwaukee Bucks head coach vacancy. The Suns are looking to fill former head coach Monty Williams’ position after he was fired for losing to the Denver Nuggets who are in the NBA Finals.

#4 The Tampa Bay Rays entered Tuesday night’s game against the Toronto Blue Jays as the team that has given up the fewest runs in the American League that all changed when the Jays bombarded the Rays 20-1. The one laugher was when the Jays Vladimir Guerrero struck out against a position player outfielder Luke Raley who pitched in the eighth and Guerrero returned to the dugout laughing. The game was a laugher too for the Jays.

#5 The Oakland A’s and the State of Nevada have reached a loose agreement that reduces the State’s tax credit debt to less than $195 million and for Clark County to pay less than $200 million less than the $395 million needed toward building a ballpark on the Las Vegas Strip’s Tropicana property. Previously the State were going to kick in $100 to 195 million toward the tax credits. Once an agreement is in place.

#1 Jessica, lots of talk about the possible free agency of Los Angeles star Shohei Ohtani. Ohtani is expected to enter free agency and amongst some of the top teams that will seek him out are the Los Angeles Dodgers who could offer Ohtani up to $600 million. Ohtani a two way star shows on signs of slowing down as he enters the last year of his deal with the Angels.

#2 The Atlanta Braves Max Fried has entered the 15 day IL with a strained left forearm. In April Fried was on the IL for with a hamstring injury missing two weeks which included opening day.

#3 New York Mets pitcher Max Scherzer continues to battle injuries. Scherzer was unable to start on Tuesday night because he was suffering from neck spasms. Scherzer will continue to rehab as the Mets have now lost four of their last five games and recalled David Peterson to make a start.

#4 The Milwaukee Bucks Giannis Ankeotokounmpo said that he is forever grateful for former Bucks head coach Mike Budenholzer. The Bucks who were a favored first place team lost to eighth place Miami Heat. The Bucks became the sixth NBA team to lose to an eighth place team in post season play.

#5 Jessica, the New York Knicks did stave being eliminated and picked up a crucial win defeating the Miami Heat 112-103 on Wednesday night to cut the Heat’s series lead 3-2. The Knicks got scoring help from Jalen Brunson who led with 38 points and RJ Barrett who followed up with 26 points.

#1 Jessica, we lead off the program with the New York Jets and their acquisition of quarterback Aaron Rogers. Jets general manager Joe Douglas said that getting Rogers was historic for the franchise but critics are questioning at what price the Jets had to fork up a 2023 second round pick, 2024 conditional second rounder that will increase to a first rounder if Rogers participates in 65% of the regular season. Is it worth it Douglas seems to think so.

#2 The Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder Bryan Reynolds got a rich eight year deal worth $106.5 million. The deal for Reynolds is the richest in Pirates history. Before signing Reynolds the Bucs were one of four big league franchises who had not signed a player for $100 million and over. The Kansas City Royals, Oakland A’s and Chicago White Sox remain the only teams who have not signed a $100 million player.

#3 New York Mets star pitcher Justin Verlander is reportedly on target to return May 3rd. Verlander has been injured since spring training and will make a rehab start this coming Friday. Verlander is recovering from a low-grade teres major strain. Verlander said it’s been frustrating but was told that his time will come and he’s just a week away.

#4 Jessica, it seems that Los Angeles Angels Mike Trout memorabilia especially from his rookie year is through the roof his 2009 Red Refractor card sold for $1 million. Turns out a Mike Trout signed little league ball went to auction and sold for $15,600. Trout’s uncle Kevin had the ball for two decades. Trout signed the ball when he was 12 years old. Uncle Kevin says if your kid is in Little League and makes it big in the big leagues get him to sign the ball now.

#5 New York Rangers head coach Gerard Gallant says the Rangers simply didn’t show up during Monday’s game on home ice at Madison Square Garden losing to the New Jersey Devils 3-1 and now tied with New Jersey at 2-2 in the series. Gerard referenced the offense scored only one goal through three period and it was the third and last period when they got on the scoreboard. On defense the Devils scored twice in the third period on Devils goaltender Akira Schmid who faced 23 shots.
