#1 The San Francisco 49ers signed Josh Rosen off the Tampa Bay Buccaneers practice roster. Rosen will be second string behind 49ers quarterback CJ Beathard’s this Saturday in Arizona. It’s the first time in a year since Rosen has been on an NFL active roster

#2 Jessica the Buffalo Bills (11-3) keep pouring it on with a huge win over the Denver Broncos (5-9) in Denver 48-19. Bills quarterback Josh Allen threw for 359 yards and two touchdowns in the win.

#3 The Green Bay Packers (11-3) continue their winning ways with a 24-16 over the Carolina Panthers (4-10). The Packers quarterback Aaron Rogers threw for 143 and one touchdown.

#4 The Tampa Bay Buccaneers (9-5) get a 31-27 victory against the Atlanta Falcons (4-10) it was a great afternoon of throwing for yardage for Bucs quarterback Tom Brady throwing for 390 yards and two touchdowns.

#5 The Tennessee Titans (10-4) left little doubt with a huge victory over the Detroit Lions (5-9) 46-25. The Titans quarterback Ryan Tannehill threw for 273 yards and three touchdowns in the large offensive day for the Titans.

On Headlines with Jessica:

#1 The NHL is planning to open the regular season on Jan 13th with a 52 game schedule using divisions playing each other and each division will be in a bubble. That includes all seven Canadian teams will stay in Canada and play in a bubble there. The schedule format is also planned to be a baseball schedule style three game series.

#2 The current pandemic has discussion for a 2020-21 season in a tentative position right now as things could change. No details on how post season would be handled but with Covid-19 the NHL plans to use every precaution to get the season underway and work.

#3 Jessica, the Baltimore Ravens(7-5) a big win over the Dallas Cowboys (3-9) 34-17 on Tuesday Night Football LeMar Jackson playing since being out from the Ravens last game Dec 2nd for Coronavirus related issues. Jackson on Tuesday threw for 107 yards two touchdowns.

#4 The NFL has played or will play their all sevens days of the week as the Ravens did last week on Wednesday night Dec 2nd and Tuesday. It’s rarity in the NFL but the 2020 season has brought the seven day football schedule. Will this be a regular schedule going forward the NFL is just trying to get this season finished before any further considerations.

#5 The NFL has not decided whether or not to play it’s post season in a bubble. The players union has talked to the players and they haven’t decided what to do yet. There have been a number of cases of Covid-19 infections during the regular season as teams travel from city to city. A bubble will keep everybody in one place but the players have not made a decision if that’s the way they’ll go.

#1 Dallas Cowboys strength and conditioning coach Markus Paul passed away at age 54 on Wednesday. Paul was listed in serious condition and was attended to by Cowboys medical personnel and paramedics after getting sick at the Cowboys Frisco Texas facility on Tuesday. Paul who played at Syracuse still holds the all time interception record for the Orange at 19.

#2 Former Cal and Los Angeles Rams quarterback Jared Goff threw for 376 yards and three touchdowns against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Monday Night Football for a 24-17 win.

#3 The win puts the Rams in first place in the NFC West at 7-3 and the Rams have won three of their last four games and are favored to win the NFC West title.

#4 There’s been a lot of discussion about how Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady shined on Rams quarterback Jared Goff after the game. Brady caught a lot of heat for not meeting Goff on the field after the game for the customary handshake.

#5 The San Francisco 49ers are down nine players who are on the Covid-19 list. The 49ers have added two more players nose tackle DJ Jones and defensive end Jordan Willis. The 49ers have a number of injuries but having up to eight players on the Covid list certainly doesn’t help.

#1 Another high profile name landed on the Covid 19 list for this week when Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger tested positive on Tuesday. The NFL says they’ve done their very best warning players about wearing masks which they have not.

#2 The Dallas Cowboys and the Steelers were involved in a post game scrum exchanging pleasantries after last Sundays’ game and now it was reported that four players on the Steelers including Roethlisberger have Covid 19.

#3 Atlanta Falcons (3-6) head coach Raheem Morris inherited the job after former head coach Dan Quinn was fired after the Falcons started the season at 0-5. After taking over the team Morris won two straight games before losing last Sunday. Morris was the former defensive coordinator before taking over as head coach and there is worry that Morris who is a black head coach might not get a second chance in the NFL if he doesn’t turn the Falcons around for the rest of this season. Second chances for black head coaches in the NFL are rare.

#4 Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rogers has questioned whether or not the NFL is really following Covid 19 protocols based on the science. One issue that was brought up is up can dap it up after a game with teammates and opponents but you can’t sit down and have lunch with them.

#5 The Las Vegas Raiders (5-3) after their latest victory against the Los Angeles Chargers in a narrow close game are vying for their third straight win as they host the Denver Broncos (3-5) on Sunday at Allegiant Stadium a win here could further push the Raiders hopes towards a their post season dreams.

#1 The Coronavirus spares no one and former San Francisco 49er defensive end Fred Dean was no exception. Dean passed away on Wednesday at age 68. Dean played for the San Diego Chargers from 1975-81, with the 49ers from 1981 to 1985. In 2008 Dean was elected to the NFL Hall of Fame. Dean played a huge part of the 49ers Super Bowls winning two rings.

#2 The Houston Astros avoided elimination with a 4-3 win over the Tampa Bay Rays on Wednesday night with the Rays leading the series by two games 3-1. The Astros Jose Altuve who committed multiple errors in game 3 made amends with a home run in the first inning and an RBI double in the third inning.

#3 The Miami Dolphins (2-3) came into Levis Stadium to battle the San Francisco 49ers (2-3). The Dolphins and quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick dominated in the first half with a 30-7 lead and eventually buried the 49ers 43-17 with the Los Angeles Rams (4-1) coming to Santa Clara to face the 49ers on Sunday Night Football.

#4 The Las Vegas Raiders (3-2) shocked the NFL world with a any given Sunday 40-32 win over the Kansas City Chiefs (4-1) at Allegiant Stadium. The Raiders quarterback Derek Carr came in with a solid game plan throwing for 347 yards and three touchdowns.

#5 The Los Angeles Dodgers quickly got behind the Atlanta Braves in the NLCS losing the first two games of the series but the Dodgers a team who never gives up and they’ve showed that all season who lost by just a run on Tuesday night 8-7. Braves have the series lead and the Dodgers came right back on Wednesday in game 3 for a 15-3. Braves lead the series 2-1. Dodgers ace pitcher Klay Kershaw is slated to start tonight in game 4.

#1 Jessica, problems continue to happen for the the San Francisco 49ers. Wednesday they announced that their cornerback Richard Sherman will be out until week 5 which will be at home against the Dolphins. Sherman sustained a calf strain injury it was from a previous injury.

#2 NFL league spokesman Brian McCarthy said that NFL teams may sign Colin Kaepernick “if they choose to.” Kaepernick has not played  in the NFL in three years. Did the issues of social unrest put enough pressure on the NFL to reconsider to bring back Kaepernick?

#3 MLB playoffs and World Series will be held in a bubble for this October with the National League playing post season either in Minute Maid Field in Houston or Globe Life in Arlington and the American League playing either at Petco Park in San Diego or Dodgers Stadium in Los Angeles. The NLWCS will be on Sep 29th and game one of the World Series will be on Oct 20th.

#4 MLB players say they like the seven inning games in doubleheaders. The seven inning game average has been 2 1/2 hours.

#5 The LA Lakers and Denver Nuggets tip off for the Western Conference Finals on Friday night. The Lakers won their last round beating the Houston Rockets 4-3 and the Nuggets won their last round beating the Los Angeles Clippers 4-1.

#1 Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Derek Carr said he’s excited about a stickier offense and his corners this coming season.

#2 Talk about those corners Damon Arnette was a Raider draft pick and and second year corner Trayvon Muellen.

#3 The Dallas Cowboys defensive tackle Gerald McCoy will be out for the rest of the season McCoy tore his right quadriceps tendon during practice on Monday and McCoy will be released and will have surgery.

#4 The Kansas City Chiefs will be limiting their crowds to come to see home games at Arrowhead Stadium down to 22% which works out to 17,000 fans a small crowd but the Chiefs would like to welcome some fans rather than none.

#5 The Canadian Football League has decided to cancel the 2020 season due to the Coronavirus pandemic. The league was going to have a short ended season in a bubble in Winnipeg but being a contact sport decided that the risk was too high.

On the MLB podcast with Jessica:

#1 Jessica you had a chance to take a look at the New York Yankees ace Gerrit Cole and most predict that the Yankees could win the division in this abbreviated 60 game season. What was impressive about his delivery from you’ve seen of him throwing against the Mets last week.

#2 The Yankees Aaron Judge in pre season action hit two big flies he is expected to provide some power for the Yankees and some run production.

#3 Masahiro Tanaka the Yankees pitcher who took one on the head from a comebacker  is still recovering from the concussion he sustained on July 4th.

#4 Houston Astro manager Dusty Baker said that a number of his pitchers will not be available during the first part of the season, Joe Smith won’t be available and his status is undefined, Brad Peacock and Roberto Osuna will not be ready on time, reliever Austin Pruitt is reported recovery from an injury. The bullpen has to solidify as there are concerns with the Astro pitching staff.

#5 Oakland A’s manager Bob Melvin said that A’s starter Sean Manaea should be ready to go in Anaheim on Saturday night. On Monday Melvin said that Manaea struggled in the first couple of innings against the Giants but settled down getting hitters to swing and miss.

#1 NBA players will be wearing bubble jerseys with their selected social justice message on it which includes the Utah Jazz’ Rudy Gobert and the Portland Trailblazers CJ McCollum and seven more players.

#2 The messages are expected to replace the last names of the jersey in a movement that has grown stronger each day since the murder of George Floyd that sparked the social justice movement.

#3 James Harden of the Houston Rockets had to be happy when the Rockets acquired Russell Westbrook that helped compliment the team and Harden and Westbrook could launch the team once the playoffs start.

#4 The Brooklyn Nets have two players who have tested positive for Coronvirus Taurean Prince and Spencer Dinwiddie. The Nets have four open roster spots as they head to Orlando for the bubble.

#5 The New York Knicks have expressed interest in the Phoenix Suns Devin Booker. The hang up is Booker’s long contract agreement with the Suns at $158 million dollars and four years left thats a long time left on his contract and the Knicks may not want to be on the hook for that amount. They do like Booker’s stats at 22.3 points career and 20 points game average in his second year in the NBA.

#1 The Washington Redskins won’t change their racist team name but they did remove the name of one their former racist owners George Preston Marshall who was the founding owner of Washington. Marshall didn’t allow a black player on the team until 1962 he was the last owner to integrate in the NFL.

#2 Washington removed Marshall’s statue from outside of RFK Stadium and removed his name out of Washington’s Ring of Fame. His name was also removed outside of Washington’s locker room called the “Redskins History Wall” at the team’s training facility.

#3 Washington said the would retire their second number in team history No.49 Bobby Mitchell who was the first black player to play for Washington.

#4 While all these gestures are in line with what’s politically correct what about changing the team name from Redskins to something else?  Washington has been stalling on a name change team owner Dan Snyder says he has no intention of changing the name and said the name is out of respect and honor for Native Americans. 49% Native Americans polled beg to differ saying it’s derogatory and demand the name be changed.

#5 Washington DC Mayor Muriel Bowser said that the city will not go forward to get behind a new stadium effort for Washington until the team changes it’s name. That said Snyder still refuses to budge as the team is currently playing outside of DC at Fed Ex Field in Landover MD.
