Warriors Drop Another Road Game to Detroit 128-114; Pistons snap 5 game loss streak

After losing an overtime game to the Charlotte Hornets Saturday night, the Golden State Warriors (3-4) took on the Detroit Pistons (2-5) Sunday. The Hornets spent much of the game at the line Saturday night which in some part was the reason the Warriors did not win this game in regulation. In Detroit it was not much different as the Warriors lose to the Pistons 128-114 at Little Cesar’s Palace in Detroit.

Against the Pistons the Warriors will need to clean that up against one of the best teams in the league getting to the line. This will be one of only two games in which these two teams will meet.

Game recap: Unlike Sunday night the Warriors went on a 12 to 2 run in the first quarter and led 19-11 before the Pistons cut that lead to two points 19-17. The Warriors had some good looks but failed to capitalize. The main threat for Detroit was of course Bojan Bogdanovic who already had two shots from downtown.

The Pistons hung around after trailing by as much as ten points and tied up the game at 41 going on to take the lead 44-41 with six minutes left in the second quarter. Draymond Green already had three personals at halftime. The Warriors were shooting 37% to the Pistons 48%.

Detroit has a starting roster made up of some up and coming youngsters that will be amazing players down the road in fact making an impact in the first two quarters of this game. At the half the Warriors had some work to do trailing 63-55. The second quarter was a killer with the Pistons outscoring Golden State 34-18.

Two minutes into the third quarter the Warriors were trailing 74-57. The Pistons had lost five in a row and were looking to break that losing streak. Detroit continued to extend their lead at one time ahead 79-60 but Golden State came roaring back courtesy of Jordan Poole hitting four shots from downtown in the quarter.

The Warriors continued to trail deep into the fourth quarter. With three minutes left this was an eight point game in favor of Detroit. The young Piston roster was having a banner game. The Warriors were staring down another loss. They were fouling far to often and the Pistons were hitting those free throws. The final was 128-114 and Detroit had broken their losing streak.

Every starter for Detroit scored in double digits. They ran the Warriors off the three point line attacking in the second half and it paid off. Even when Jordan Poole went off in the second half, the young Detroit roster did not fold. This team doesn’t typically make three’s but they sure did Sunday with 14.

Stephen Curry had the high score with 32 points and Jordan Poole followed that up with 30 points. The bottom line is that the Warriors have a bull’s eye on their backs, they are the hunted.

This is exactly why it is so very difficult to repeat. . “It looks like a pick-up game out there,” said Steve Kerry after the game. “We’ve got to stop fouling, 38 more free throws tonight. We’re putting ourselves in some tough spots offensively and that translates into the defense,” said Kerr after the game.

Tuesday the Warriors will take on the Miami Heat after having a day off. Tipoff is scheduled for 3:30 PM. The Warriors cannot continue to fall behind by double digits on the road. They have s lot to clean up before Tuesday night.

Warriors Fall to the Hornets In Overtime 120-113

Saturday evening the Golden State Warriors (3-3) took on the Charlotte Hornets (3-3) and took their third loss 120-113. Friday night the Hornets were soundly beaten by the Orlando Magic 113-93. Golden State was last on the court Thursday against the Magic winning that contest 123-110.

At the end of the first quarter the Warriors were overwhelmed trailing 34-23. After the loss yesterday, the Hornets were an angry bunch and they took it out on the Warriors. After the second quarter, the Hornets took a 62-50 lead into the locker room.

Warrior guard Stephen Curry had 12 points as did Jordan Poole off the bench. Gordon Hayward, P.J. Washington and Kelly Oubre Jr. all had double digits for Charlotte. Golden State had their work cut out for them going into the second half.

Nearly four minutes into the third quarter, the Warriors had not found the basket trailing 67-52. They were shooting around 35% and the Hornets were dominating Golden State offensively and defensively.

The Warriors had no rhythm so far in this game. With 6:53 left in the third the Warriors made their first shot of the quarter. Klay Thompson and Curry hit back to back three’s cutting a fifteen point deficit to seven. The Warriors had trimmed the Hornet lead to five with four minutes left in the quarter.

Every time the Warriors got to within five points, the Hornets responded. The two teams began to trade baskets in a high octane third quarter. With 2:06 left, the Warriors took the lead 80-78. The Warriors dominated in final minutes of the third winning it 33-18. Charlotte took an 85-83 lead into the final quarter.

With 3:15 left in the game the Warriors continued to trail 101-98. Golden State desperately needed to string some shots together if a win was in their future. With 2:44 remaining the score was tied at 101. With 1:02 left on the clock the Hornets called a time-out now trailing 107-103. Charlotte cut the Warrior lead to 107-105 and Warrior head coach Steve Kerr called a time-out in response. The Hornets tied up the game at 107 and this game went into overtime.

This was the first overtime for the Warriors this season. Both Curry and Draymond Green were operating with five fouls. With 2:01 left in the overtime, the Hornets took a 114-111 lead and the Warriors were climbing uphill yet again. With 1:02 on the clock it was a one score game 116-113 in favor of the Hornets.

One of the culprits in this game was the 31 Warrior fouls to Charlottes 14. You have to give a lot of credit to the Charlotte Hornets who fought hard in the absence of LaMelo Ball and Terry Rozier.

All five starters for Golden State had double digits but it just wasn’t enough.Curry had the high score for Golden State with 31 points. Off the bench Poole kept the Warriors in this game with 24 points. The Warriors had some great opportunities in the final minutes of the fourth quarter but did not take advantage of them.

There will be no rest for the Warriors as they travel to Detroit to take on the Pistons Sunday. Tipoff is scheduled for 3:00 PM.

Heat can’t stop Warriors Curry with 33 pts in 123-110 win

Golden State Warrior guard Stephen Curry scored 33 points leading the Warriors on the top of the scoring leaderboard. Curry’s ten crucial points in the fourth quarter help keep the Warriors ahead. Curry also added seven assists and nine rebounds to his total in keeping the Warriors in the contest in the Warriors 123-110 win over the Miami Heat.

The Heat’s Tyler Herro tried as he might to defend Curry but to avail Curry just came loose on Herro including a move losing Herro and faded back and sank a three point shot with 5:23 remaining in the game to make it 108-100. Curry added some more at 3:15 moving past the Heat defense for a layup and at 2:40 hitting another three pointer, and then a long outside shot at 2:04 as the Warriors never looked back.

During the current four game homestand Curry has 30 or more points and Andrew Wiggins had 18 points and ten rebounds, and had a collection of three pointers five in all scoring 19 points for the night. Warriors Jordan Poole drove and got a pass around the Heat’s defender Bam Adebayo to teammate Ty Jerome who hit a three pointer to make it 100-92 with 9:36 left. Poole also added a jump shot at 8:07 to pull the Warriors with an eight point lead 102-94.

The Heat got scoring from Adebayo who led with 26 points, forward Jimmy Butler 27 points, and Max Strus 14 points, Kyle Lowery scored 12 points and eight assists. The Heat playing on back to back nights having played on Wednesday night in Portland getting a 119-98 win.

The Charlotte Hornets host the Warriors on Saturday night. The Hornets will have come off back to back nights having played in Miami and back to Charlotte to host Warriors for a 4:00pm tip.

Suns Wallop Golden State 134-105; Seven technicals and Thompson first career ejection

Suns Wallop Golden State 134-105

Tuesday night the Golden State Warriors (2-2) took on the Phoenix Suns (3-1) at Footprint Center. Both teams are coming off wins, the Warriors beating the Kings Sunday 130-125 and the Suns handling the Clippers 112-95 on Sun Oct 23. Golden State has struggled in transition and will be looking for some improvement against a very tough Phoenix Suns.

The Warriors got a fast start and led through the opening minutes before the Suns got going. With five minutes left in the first quarter the Suns had taken a ten point lead and after the first 12 minutes Phoenix held a 37-29 lead. The Warriors had shot at 46% and the Suns edged them slightly shooting at 48%.

In the Warriors last game, the second unit had struggled but in this outing these young guys were nothing short of terrific. This unit had cut the Suns lead from eight points to a tie game at 39 in the early minutes of the second quarter.

This game remained close with the Suns holding slim leads throughout the quarter. The Warriors Jordan Poole hit a three that was nullified by a shot clock violation in the closing seconds. The Suns Chris Paul hit a three with 0.5 seconds left on the clock and at the half, it was Phoenix with a 72-66 lea

The Suns Devon Booker led the Suns with 16 points scored. Poole had the point high off the bench with 14 points and Warrior guard Stephen Curry led the starting roster with 13 points.

The difference in the first half for the Warriors was points in the paint. James Wiseman and Jonathan Kuminga would need to step up in the second half. They would need some defensive excellence if they wanted to beat the Suns.

The Suns began to run away with the third quarter. They had an 11-0 run and led 94-77 with four minutes left in the third. A blow for the Warriors was the ejection of Klay Thompson, the first of his career. The Suns were getting to the free throw line in this game while the Warriors were not and that had a lot to do with the score of this game.

The Suns had shot 28 free throws in the first three quarters. At the end of the third quarter the Suns had a considerable lead 105-86. Phoenix had scored 33+ points in the first three quarters; they were in total command of this game.

Things began to get tight in the fourth quarter when the Warriors cut a 19 point Sun lead to 12. The Warriors were on a 7-0 run before the Suns began to push back leading 115-99 with under six minutes left in the game.

The Suns continued to extend their lead for the remainder of the game. Booker was relentless finishing with 34 points. The final was 134-105 in a dominating game by Phoenix. The Sun’s defense was just better than Golden State’s.

The high score for the Warriors was Curry with 21 points. It was a lackluster offensive effort from Golden State. They hung with the Suns in the first half but it all came apart in the second half.

Thursday night the Warriors will play Jimmy Butler and the Miami Heat at Chase Center. Tipoff will be at 7:00 PM.

Warriors hold down Kings 130-125 in tale of two halves

It was a tale of two halves as the Golden State Warriors (2-1) downed the Sacramento Kings (0-3) 130-125 Sunday night at the Chase Center. The Kings, coached by former Warrior assistant Mike Brown, gave the Warriors quite a tussle.

The Kings scored 71 points in the first half. Normally, a team that scores that many points would win the game. The Warriors didn’t even blink as they put 89 points on the scoreboard in the first half to finish the half with an 18-point advantage, 89-71.

It was the most points in a half witnessed by this reporter ever. It was the third most points in franchise history in any half and the second most in the first half. The Warriors set a franchise record by scoring 50 points in the second quarter.

The second half was a different story. The Warriors outscored the Kings 24-23 in the third quarter to lead by 19, 113-95. The Kings knew they could break down the Warriors defense. They erased most of the deficit but could not quite catch the Warriors. Sacramento put 31 points on the board and held the Warriors to 17.

The first half was something to see. The Warriors got off to an early 10-0 lead. Sacramento tied the game at 15 all. The Warriors never trailed in the first 12 minutes of play. The Kings tied the game at 17 all, 21 all, 25, and 30. The Warriors finished the quarter with a three-point lead, 39-36. 

The Warriors turned on the gas in the second quarter. Guard Stephen Curry got hot. Curry scored 21 points in the quarter and made five threes. Curry finished the first half with 28 points. Jordan Poole and James Wiseman each scored 12 points in the first half. Andrew Wiggins had 18. The Kings’ offense was paced by Domantis Sabonis, De’Aaron Fox, Keegan Murray, and Malik Monk. 

As mentioned above, Sacramento won the second quarter 54-41. The Kings served notice that they would have quite a bit of offensive firepower. Former Warriors assistant coach Mike Brown is trying to instill the Warriors’ winning ways into his new team.

The Kings are 0-3 to start the season, but they appear to be on the right track. Steve Kerr had this to say about Mike: “We played at times brilliantly, and we couldn’t sustain it,” coach Steve Kerr said. “It was closer than it should have been, but I give Sacramento a lot of credit. Mike’s doing a great job with those guys. They’re fighting, and they’re competing. They’ve had three close losses now to start the year. We let our guard down and they took advantage of it.”

Game Notes and Stats: With the win, the Warriors are 2-1. The Kings are 0-3. 

Curry finished the night with 33 points. It was his third-straight 30-point game. Curry was 11 for 22 from the floor and knocked down six threes. Wiggins tallied 24 with five rebounds and one assist. Klay Thompson had eight. Poole had 24, and Wiseman had 14.

The Kings had five players in double figures. Fox had a double-double with 26 points and ten assists. Sabonis had 19, Murray 16, and Monk 16. and Richaun Holmes 15. 

The Warriors play the Suns in Phoenix Tuesday night. The game will start at 7 pm.

#2 The Warriors were unstoppable scoring 89 points first half in a five point win over the Sacramento Kings.

#3 The Kings although they’ve now lost three in a row have been playing some close basketball games. The Kings cut the Warriors 26 point lead down to four points with 1:04 left in the game.

#4 De’Aaron Fox lead with 26 points he was doing everything he could to keep the Kings in it and worked on cutting down that Warrior lead.

Warriors second-half rally falls short lose to Nuggets 128-123

The Golden State Warriors hosted the Denver Nuggets at the Chase Center Friday night. The Warriors opened the season with a win of the Los Angeles Lakers on Wednesday night. Denver lost its opener against the Utah Jazz Wednesday night. The Warriors just couldn’t hold on Friday night and were defeated by the Nuggets 128-123.

The Nuggets’ coach, Mike Malone, wanted his team to get on track by beating the Warriors. With two-time NBA MVP Nikola Jokic pacing the attack, the Nuggets had the firepower to upset the Warriors apple cart. The Warriors have one of the top defenses in the NBA.

Would they be able to stop the Nuggets’ firepower? The Nuggets answered the question in the first half of the game. After a high-scoring and hotly-contested first period, the Nuggets poured in 40 points in the first 12 minutes of the game to lead 40-34.

Denver led 30-29 when they went on a 10-5 run to finish the quarter leading by six. The Nuggets, not known for great defense, held the Warriors to 18 points in the second period to finish the first half leading 70-52.

Jokic paced the Nuggets attack with 14 points. Michael Porter, Jr. had 11. Stephen Curry had 13, and Andrew Wiggins ten for Golden State. The Warriors knew they had to catch fire in the second half if they were to get the win. They played hard. They won the second half 71-58 but could not catch Denver as they lost their first game of the season 128-123.

The game was decided in the second quarter. The Warriors second unit was not effective on defense, and the offense was nothing there. The Nuggets bottled up Jordan Poole. Poole scored two points in the first half. Warriors coach Steve Kerr could not insert Klay Thompson into the game as he is limited to about 20 minutes of playing time.

The other bench players added just 15 points. Denver’s bench tallied 26. Denver shot 59% from the floor and made eight threes in 14 tries. The Warriors shot 47% from the floor but made five threes in 22 attempts. 

The Warriors knew they would have to be at the top of their game in the third quarter. Denver increased the lead to twenty before the Warriors started their comeback. They clawed back to a seven-point deficit 86-79. The Warriors started making threes.

Klay Thompson made two, and Wiggins and Draymond Green each had one. Denver refused to wilt. They finished the third quarter leading 98-88. With the first unit on the floor, the Warriors made shots. Unfortunately for them, Denver made them, too.

Curry knocked down a three, and JaMychal Green followed with a two-point bucket to close within six points, 111-105, with more than four minutes left to play. Jokic kept attacking the Warrior defense.

The big guy made a bucket and was fouled. He converted the free throw, and Denver led 116-108. Curry answered with a three. Denver scored the next five points to lead by ten, 121-111. Curry hit another three, and Poole scored two to trail by five. Denver scored to lead 123-116. The Warriors trailed 124-121 after Draymond Green made a basket.

There was hope. Was there enough time? Poole made a huge play by stealing an inbound pass and scoring to bring the Warriors within a single point, 124-123. Denver went ahead 126-123 with 13 seconds left. Denver scored the last four points of the night to win 128-123. 

Game Notes and Stats: With the loss, the Warriors are 1-1. Denver is also 1-1. 

The Warriors won the second half 71-58. Their offense came alive, but Denver had just enough offense in the second half to get the win. 

The Warriors had five players in double figures Friday night. Curry led the team with 34. Curry made five three. Wiggins had 23, Thompson 16, Draymond Green 13, and James Wiseman 11. Poole was held to seven points. Poole did record seven assists. The team shot 47% from the floor. The Warriors made ten threes in 22 tries in the second half. They were 15 for 44 for the night. 

The Nuggets’ Nikola Jokic had a triple-trouble. Jokic had 26 points, 12 rebounds, and ten assists. Bruce Brown had 20, Kentavius Caldwell-Pope and Michael Porter, Jr. each had 17 points. Pope made three threes, and Porter connected five times. Bones Hyland had 14, Aaron Gordon ten, and Jeff Gordon ten.

The Warriors have 123 points in both games played so far. One game they one, one game they lost.

The Warriors host the Sacramento Kings Sunday night at the Chase Center. The game starts at 5:30 pm.

#1 Jerry, the Golden State Warriors Stephen Curry Tuesday night stood in front of the Chase Arena crowd in San Francisco using his superstar status to reach out those who have the decision to make the release of WNBA/Phoenix Mercury star Brittney Griner possible.

#2 Griner who was sentenced in a Russian prison for nine years for having hashish oil in her suitcase as she tried to leave Moscow. Curry said that he wanted to use the platform to shout out to the basketball community about a very special member who should be released.

#3 Curry said it’s been long over due that Griner has been in prison now for over 243 days since she was wrongfully incarcerated and that everyone is doing their part to see that she gets home.

#4 Jerry, the Brooklyn Nets Kyrie Irving, the Miami Heat’s Udonis Haslem made a speeches pleading for the US President Joe Biden to work things out with the Russian government to “let our sister go free.”

#5 Jerry, the Warriors host the Denver Nuggets Fri Oct 21 for the Nuggets second game of the season at Chase Center a 7:00pm tip. The Warriors faced the Nuggets in their last pre season game which they lost 119-112. Then in the opener the Utah Jazz crushed the Nuggets on Wednesday night. How do you see this one Friday?

The Warriors start the new season with a win over the Los Angeles Lakers 123-109

The Golden State Warriors started the season with a resounding win over the Los Angeles Lakers Tuesday night at the Chase Center. The final score was 123-109. The Warriors want to win their fifth championship in nine years. They lost four or five key players after the season ended. The Warriors added Donte DiVincenzo and JaMychal Green to go along with James Wiseman, Jonathan Kuminga, and Moses Moody. 

The Warriors gave out their championship rings to the players before the start of the game. NBA commissioner Adam Silver was in the house to congratulate the players. The game was on TNT, and TNT had Shaquille O’Neal, Charles Barkley, and Ernie Johnson doing commentary.

The Warriors had guard Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, Draymond Green, Andrew Wiggins, and Kevon Looney on the court to start the contest. The Lakers started LeBron James James, Anthony Davis, Russell Westbrook, Patrick Beverly, and Lonnie Walker.

The first quarter started slowly. As it was the first game of the year, both teams were slow to get things going. The Warriors finished the quarter leading 25-22. Things heated up in the second period. The Warriors outscored the Lakers 34-30 to finish the first half with a 59-52 lead.

The Warriors were up by 11, but LeBron James made two buckets to cut the deficit to seven. Curry paced the Warriors with 16 points. Jordan Poole, leading the second unit, added ten. Anthony Davis had 15 for LA. LeBron added 14 and Westbrook 11.

As they have done so many times in the past, the Warriors dominated the third quarter. Thompson led the way as he tallied nine points early in the period. With the score 66-58, the Warriors went on a 25-4 run to lead 91-64. The Lakers fought back and made it a 91-71 game at the end of three. The Warriors outscored the Lakers 32-19

Los Angeles went on a 22-9 run in the fourth quarter. They trailed by 13 100-87. Warriors head coach Steve Kerr called a timeout so that the Warriors could regroup. Curry and Wiggins led the offensive surge to put the game out of reach.

Wiggins made three threes, and Curry had a three, a deuce, and a four-point play to put the game away. The score was 121-104 with 1:52 left to play. Kerr allowed the bench players to finish out the game.

The Warriors played well on both ends of the court. They continued to shine on defense. They showed the NBA that they have a powerful offensive juggernaut. The fans went home happy, but was Kerr satisfied with his team’s effort? Coaches always say players have to improve.

Game Notes and Stats: The Warriors’ offensive stars were Curry, Wiggins,Thompson, and Poole. Curry finished with 33 points. Curry knocked down four three in 13 attempts. A couple of the threes came in the fourth quarter when the Lakers made a comeback.

Thompson, playing just 19 minutes, finished with a18 points. Thompson knocked down two threes. Wiggins had 20, and Poole had 12. Warrior bench players contributed too James Wiseman, JaMychal Green, and Donte DiVincenzo each had eight points. JaMychal Green and Wiseman each pulled down seven boards.

The Lakers had four players in double figures. LeBron paced the Lakers’ attack with 31 points and 14 rebounds. Davis had 27 points and six boards. Russell Westbrook had a double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds. Kendrick Nunn added 13. The Lakers’ bench did not produce much Tuesday night.

The Warriors play Friday night again when they host the Denver Nuggets. The game will start at 7 pm at the Chase Center.
