On the Warriors podcast with David:

#1 David, the Warriors (20-20) faced the Los Angeles Lakers (26-13) on Monday night and the contest wasn’t even close as the Lakers dominated for the win 128-97.

#2 For the Warriors it’s was double trouble they had to defend Montrezl Harrell who finished as the top scorer with 27 points and LeBron James with 22 points. The Lakers were certainly a force and that’s considering after the Warriors beat the best team in basketball the night before in the Utah Jazz.

#3 The Warriors are in Houston tonight to face the Rockets (11-26) the Rockets have lost 16 straight games and there is very little doubt that since the departure of James Harden to Brooklyn they have fell on very hard times.

Kings Lose to Charlotte in Final Seconds 122-116

Kings Lose to Charlotte in Final Seconds 122-116

By Barbara Mason

The Sacramento Kings are going nowhere fast. After losing last week to the Portland Trail Blazers 123-119, the Kings pulled off a win against the struggling Rockets 125-105. They fell short to the Atlanta Hawks Saturday 121-106. They still sit in 13th place and can’t seem to find anyway to make up any ground in the Western Conference.

The Kings had a dominating first quarter in that game but got smothered in the second quarter 39-18. They trailed 61-51 at halftime and were never able to recover. DeAaron Fox had 32 points in the game but it was not enough to dispose of the Hawks.

Tonight the Kings took on the (19-18) Hornets leading at halftime 67-61. The Hornets have become a quality team and currently are competing for a spot in the Eastern Conference. A win over them would be a good thing for the Kings. The Kings continue to have the worst defense in the league although the Hornets are only a 2.5 point favorite. The second half would tell the tale.

After three quarters the Kings continued to hold their lead although it had been cut to 5 points 96-91 after leading by double digits for most of the quarter. The King’s would try to hang onto this game in the fourth quarter.

With just under three minutes left in the game the Hornets tied the game at 110 apiece. This game was going right down to the wire. With a minute and a half the Hornets took the lead 112-111. The game was tied at 113 with 1:02 left in the game. The Hornets Terry Rozier would make a 26 foot three point jumper to give Charlotte a 116-113 lead.

The final was 122-116 in favor of Charlotte. It was a tough loss for Sacramento. They were unable to finish after leading for most of the game. Fox would finish with 29 points, Hield with 23 and Holmes, Barnes and Bagley 11 all with double digits.

The Kings will next take on the 12th place Wizards Wednesday night. They will be on the road for this game. Tipoff is at 4:00.

San Francisco Giants podcast with Michael Duca for Morris Phillips: Gausman pitches two gives up just one hit; Look for Ramos to hit for average

San Francisco Giants pitcher Kevin Gausman seen pitching on Feb 26, 2021 threw for two innings and gave up one hit against the Colorado Rockies on Fri Mar 12, 2021 at Scottsdale AZ (AP News photo)

On the San Francisco Giants podcast with Michael:

#1 San Francisco Giants pitcher Kevin Gausman who signed a $18.9 million deal threw for two innings on Friday against the Colorado Rockies. Gausman gave up a hit and struck out one in two innings of work and looked to have his command.

#2 The only two balls that were hit hard off Gausman were the Rockies Josh Fuentes for a double and a liner by Brenden Rogers that turned out to be a double play. The Giants certainly are hoping for Gausman in the starting role for the season.

#3 Gausman was glad to have catcher Buster Posey catching him and Gausman said he was looking forward to working with Posey saying he was hoping to bounce ideas off each other.

#4 The Giants manager Gabe Kapler is taking a look at outfielder Heliot Ramos, Ramos improved his spring average to .450 with two hits against the Rockies on Friday. Ramos picked up an RBI as well. The Giants always will welcome another good bat in the line up.

#5 Brandon Belt who missed three weeks of play due to a a non Covid that was mono related illness. Belt took some swings in the cage during batting practice before Friday’s game against the Rockies and did not play in the exhibition game.

Headline Sports podcast with Barbara Mason: Wiseman the Wiser after missing test and some basketball mistakes scores 16 against Jazz

Golden State Warriors rookie center James Wiseman whose been back in the starting line up since Sunday night against Utah has been working to get back in the team’s good graces since missing a Covid-19 test and flagging play (AP News photo)

On Headline Sports podcast with Barbara:

#1 The last two weeks since the All Star break have not been too kind to Golden State Warriors rookie center James Wiseman. First there were the talks about trading Wiseman to the Minnesota Timberwolves but the Warriors were looking for a “generational player” in return which Minnesota didn’t have and then there was the missed Coronavirus test Wiseman missed before the All Star break.

#2 Wiseman had to sit down for the first three quarters during the Warriors game in Los Angeles against the Clippers last Thursday night. It was the fourth quarter when Warriors head coach Steve Kerr allowed Wiseman to get into the game and Wiseman scored 14 points.

#3 The forgotten test put more scorn on the 19 year old center and his play has been questioned as well as his professionalism but as a rookie are these just rookie mistakes of a young man trying to learn the ropes and culture of the NBA?

#4 Wiseman’s mother Donzaleigh Artis has been a big help and inspiration for Wiseman showing him the bible passage of Matthew 6:25 “Do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothes?” Wiseman took it to heart and will try and not stress about the missed test and plans to improve from the mistake.

#5 You can rest assured that Wiseman who was in the line up Sunday night and again will be there against the Lakers at Chase Center on Monday night. Kerr is forgiving of Wiseman after Wiseman apologized and said “give him some space and some time this guys going to be amazing”

Condors 4-3 OT comeback win over SJ Barracuda extends win streak to eight

The San Jose Barracuda fought it out with the Bakersfield Condors on Sat Mar 13, 2021 at Mechanics Bank Arena in Bakersfield (@ sjbarracuda photo)

by Marko Ukalovic

BAKERSFIELD, Calif—Ryan McLeod went from goat to hero in a span of two minutes in overtime.

He scored the game winning goal at the 2:37 mark of the extra session as the Bakersfield Condors came from behind to beat the San Jose Barracuda 4-3 to extend its winning streak to eight games on Friday evening at Mechanics Bank Arena.

McLeod took a tripping penalty 30 seconds into overtime. However San Jose wasn’t able to capitalize on its sixth power play of the game. Seconds after the penalty expired, Ryan Stanton sprung McLeod on a breakaway just as he exited the sinbin and beat ‘Cuda goalie Josef Korenar with a fore-hand to backhand move sliding the puck past Korenar’s five hole for his sixth goal of the season.

Bakersfield (8-5-0-0) drew first blood in the first period with the AHL’s leading scorer in goals and points Cooper Marody getting things started. Tyler Benson sent the puck toward the middle of the net where the puck pinballed through three ‘Cuda defenders. Marody gathered the puck and his backhander beat Korenar for the first goal of his hatrick on the night at the 13:40 mark.

Marody’s goal marked the eighth straight game the Condors have scored the opening goal of the game. They have outscored their opponents 14-0 in the first period during its winning streak, including 6-0 over San Jose.

The ‘Cuda went down a man before the end of the opening frame when Evan Weinger was injured after receiving a hit up high from Graham McPhee. Weinger would not finish the game as he suffered an apparent upper body injury.

Jeffery Viel took exeption to McPhee’s hit on Weinger as the two squared off in a fight immediately afterward and both ended up with fighting majors.

San Jose (5-4-3-0) scored the equalizer early in the second. Alexander True found defenseman Ryan Merkley at the Condors blueline. Merkley skated in from the right wing to just below the net when he sneaked in a backhand shot that went off the back of Condors goalie Stuart Skinner for the former first round pick’s first career goal at the 4:14 mark.

Bakersfield regained the lead late in the middle frame. After a faceoff win inside the ‘Cuda zone, Markus Niemelainen fired a shot from the left point that Marody redirected from the slot past Korenar for his second goal of the game at the 17:09 mark.

The Condors out shot the ‘Cuda 15-12 in the second period.

It only took 41 seconds in the third period for the Barracuda to get the second equalizer of the game. Noah Gregor’s shot from the right wing was stopped but not controlled by Skinner. Joachim Blichfeld crashed the net and cashed in on the rebound for his seventh goal of the season. True received the secondary assist.

San Jose gained its first lead of the season against Bakersfield thanks to a miscue by Skinner. The netminder’s clearing attempt deflected off the body of Noah Gregor on to the stick of True who beat Skinner back to the net with a wrap around to the far post for his fourth goal of the season and second goal in as many games at the 4:22 mark.

True finished with three points on the night (1G, 2A).

Bakersfield pulled Skinner for an extra attacker with 2:04 remaining in the third period. The gamble paid off when Benson found Marody with a backdoor pass and Marody completed his second career hatrick burying a wrist shot past Korenar for his 12th goal of the season.

Marody has 18 points to go along with his 12 goals to lead the league in both categories. He has 17 points in his last nine games.

Skinner finished the game with 31 saves on 34 shots to earn the victory. Korenar stopped 34 of the 38 saves in the losing cause.

GAME NOTES: San Jose went 0-for-6 on the power play. Bakersfield was 0-for-3.

More special teams- San Jose is currently on an 0-for-10 streak on the power play. While Bakersfield has killed 24 straight penalties.

Bakersfield is now 7-0 (6-0 at home) when leading after two periods.

The Three Stars of the Game were: 1) Marody 2) McLeod 3) True

UP NEXT: San Jose returns home to host Bakersfield for two games starting on Tuesday 3/16 at 6:00pm at SAP Center.
