SAN FRANCISCO – The young guns shined for the Giants in their 5-2 victory over the Minnesota Twins Monday night. Bo Davidson made his long-awaited MLB debut, the 17th player to make their big league debut for the Giants this season, the most in MLB.

Davidson went 1-for-4 and fed off the Oracle Park crowd after recording his first major league hit in his first at-bat. With Drew Gilbert at third base and Davidson at first, Brett Harris singled to center field, scoring them both. The Giants scored two in the first and two more in the second as Drew Gilbert singled, scoring Osleivis Basabe and Christian Koss for a 4-0 lead.

Something Tony Vitello was used to seeing in Knoxville at the University of Tennessee was put on display for him again Monday night… Drew Gilbert 3-for-4 with three RBI while Blade Tidwell held the opposition to one run through 3.1 innings. Unfortunately Tidwell’s night was cut short due to elbow discomfort. Hopefully there is more to come in the next few days that reveals only a minor setback for Tidwell who has a 4.45 ERA through 56.2 innings this year.

Gilbert’s third hit of the night was a home run in the bottom of the fifth inning to extend the Giants lead to 5-1 at the time. Gilbert is slugging .833 with two home runs through 12 at-bats in his last seven games.

In the top of the eighth inning, RHP Jason Foley entered the game for the Giants and faced Emmanuel Rodriguez, who homered on the very first pitch he saw from Foley. He got the Twins within three runs but that was the closest they would get.

Trent Harris recorded his second career save to secure the Giants victory and start the final home stand of the year on a very high note with Giants fans looking forward to what the future has to bring. The Giants only had two players in the starting lineup born before the year 2000 and they were both in 1998.

The Giants look to keep the fun going Tuesday night in game two of this three-game series at 6:45pm.
