Barracuda extend losing streak to 2, fall 5-2 to San Diego Gulls

SAN JOSE-The San Jose Barracuda couldn’t maintain taking a 5-2 loss to the San Diego Gulls at Tech CU on Tuesday afternoon in the South Bay. San Diego opened up the scoring, netting their first goal just two minutes into the game. Matthew Phillips scored his 14th goal of the season, Roger McQueen registering the lone assist.

San Jose tied it at 1-1 when Oliver Wahlstrom scored his 24th goal of the season. Colin White registering the primary assist and Filip Bystedt registering the secondary assist. San Jose took their first lead of the game when Patrick Giles scored his tenth goal of the season. Nolan Allan registered the primary assist and Donovan Houle registering the secondary assist.

San Diego tied the game at 2-2 when Sasha Pastujov scored his 20th goal of the season. Sam Colagenlo registering the primary assist and Nikolas Brouillard registered the secondary assist. San Diego then took the 3-2 lead when Nathan Gaucher scored his 13th goal of the season. Nikolas Brouillard registered the primary assist while Nico Myatovic registered the secondary assist.

San Diego extended their lead to 4-2 when Sam Colangelo scored his sixth powerplay goal of the season. Tristan Luneau registered the primary assist and Sasha Pastujov registered the secondary assist. San Diego sealed the win when Nathan Gaucher scored his second of the game to make it 5-2.

After the first period, San Jose outshot San Diego 11-8. After the second period, both teams had equally ten shots on goal. After the third period, San Jose outshot San Diego 16-8.

Coming into Tuesday’s game, San Jose was second on the powerplay and third on the penalty kill. For Tuesday, San Jose went 1/4 on the powerplay. For San Diego, they came in seventh on the powerplay and first on the penalty kill. For Tuesday, San Diego went 1/3 on the powerplay.

Laurent Brossoit was Tuesday’s starting goalie for San Jose. Making 21 saves on 35 shots, Brossoit recorded Tuesday’s loss. For San Diego, Calle Clang was Tuesday’s starting goalie. Making 35 saves on 37 shots, Clang recorded Tuesday’s win.

The Barracuda will be back in action next week Tuesday April 14th where they will host the Coachella Valley Firebirds. The last time these two teams faced off was on Sunday March 29th where the Barracuda fell 4-1. Colin White scored the lone goal.
