Roadrunners three goal third period, sweep Barracuda 5-4

Just like last night, Tucson opened up the scoring in the San Jose 5-4 loss. Kevin Cottanuton scored his first of the season to give his team an early 1-0 lead. On a turnover by San Jose, Tucson took advantage and extended their lead to 2-0. Maveric Lamoureux scored his first of the season. With 5 seconds left on their 5 on 3 penalty, San Jose cut into the lead and made it a 2-1 game when Jimmy Huntington scored his fourth powerplay goal of the season.

During the second period, San Jose expoloded. Brendan Hoffman tied the game at 2-2 for his second goal of the season, newly acquired Jett Woo getting the primary assist. Three minutes later, San Jose took their first lead of the game when Lucas Vanroboys scored his first of the season to make it 3-2. San Jose expanded that lead to 4-2 when Quentin Musty scored his fifteenth goal of the season.

To cut into that lead, Daniil But scored his fifteenth goal of the season to make it a 4-3 game. To tie the game at 4-4, Andrew Agozzino scored his fourteenth goal of the season. To take the lead, scoring 3 unanswered goals, Maveric Lamoureux scored his fifth goal of the season to regain their lead.

After the first period, San Jose outshot Tucson twenty two to six. After the second period, San Jose again outshot Tucson, ten to seven. After the third period, San Jose outshot Tucson sixteen to nine.

Coming into today’s game, San Jose was first on the powerplay and fifth on the penalty kill. Tonight, San Jose went 1/4 on the powerplay. As for Tucson, they were fifth on the powerplay and last on the penalty kill. Tonight, Tucson went 0/1 on he powerplay.

Jakub Skarek got his first start for San Jose since January 10th. Skarek, making 17 saves on 22 shots, recorded today’s. For Tucson, Matthew Villalta got the start. Villalta, making 44 saves on 48 shots, recorded today’s win.

The Barracuda will be back in action on Wednesday for a morning 10:30 matchup against the Coachella Valley Firebirds. The last time these two teams faced off was on Wednesday February 4th where they won 2-1.
