SAN JOSE- 53 seconds into the game, Tucson struck first, Jack Ricketts getting his fourth of the season. This would be one of three goals scored by Tucson in the San Jose 5-3 win. Tucson extended that lead when their powerplay went to work and Dmitri Simashev scored his third of the season. Picking up a loose puck, Donovan Houle scored to cut into Tucson’s two to zero lead. Tucson regained their 2 goal lead when Mattias Havelid turned over the puck and gave Andrew Aggozino his ninth goal of the season to make it . Beating a Roadrunner to the puck, Filip Bystedt scored his fourteenth of the season to make it a one goal game at 3-2. Tying the game at 3-3, Mattias Havelid scored his fifth goal of the season.
Two minutes later, Filip Bystedt gave San Jose their first lead of the game, 4-3, after a perfect pass from Kyle Crnkovic for his nineteenth goal of the season. Donovan Houle successfully secured the win after Donovan Houle scored an empty net goal for his second of the game to make it a 5-3 game.
After the first period, San Jose outshot Tucson fifteen to nine. After the second period, San Jose outshot Tucson twelve to eight. After the third period, Tucson outshot San Jose seventeen to fourteen.
Specials teams is what got tonight’s game started. Coming into tonight’s game, San Jose was first on the powerplay with a 20% and fifth on the penalty kill with an 81%. For Tucson, they came into the game fifth on the powerplay with a 20% and eighth on the penalty kill with a 76%. San Jose took advantage of 1 out of 4 opportunities while Tucson took advantage of 1 out of 5.
For San Jose, Laurent Brossoit got the start. Making 30 saves on 33 shots, he recorded tonights win. Matthew Villalta got the initial start for Tucson. After taking a puck to the mask, Jaxson Stauber was called in to play in the rest of the game. Stauber, making 21 saves on 24 shots, recorded tonights loss.
