Clutch 3 by Delaire gives Cardinal a 72-69 win over Oregon

A buzzer-beating 3-pointer by Jaiden Delaire propelled Stanford to a 72-69 Pac-12 men’s basketball victory over Oregon Sunday at Maples Pavilion.

The Ducks’ Will Richardson sank a 3 to tie the game at 69-all with 1:06 remaining in the second half. Both teams traded missed shots before Delaire hit the game-winner as time expired.

The Cardinal (5-3 overall, 1-1 Pac-12) had let a 14-point lead slip away in the second half after leading 37-30 at halftime. Delaire scored seven points in an 8-1 Stanford run to open the second half that put the Cardinal up 45-31 with 16:43 remaining.

Then, Oregon (5-5, 0-2) went on a tear of its own. The Ducks cut their deficit to five as uincy Guerrier scored 13 points over an 8-minute span. Jacob Young’s layup capped a 13-4 Oregon run with 2:36 left, giving the Ducks a 66-65 lead.

Stanford regained the lead on a pair of free throws by Harrison Ingram and a tip-in by Spewn er Jones.

Delaire led the Cardinal with 20 points, followed by ingram with 16 points to o with eigbht rebounds and five assists.

Guerrier paced the Ducks with 18 points and nine rebounds, Richardson was next with 15 points and Rivaldo Soares scored 10 points for Oregon, which lost its first two conference games in a season for the first time since 2018-19.

The Cardinal host Dartmouth Thursday in a non-conference contest.
