San Francisco 49ers podcast with Joe Hawkes: Shanahan-inserting Lance would disrupt play calling; Look for Garoppolo to complete games

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Trey Lance (5) is not expected to see much game action as starter Jimmy Garoppolo has been starting and completing most of the recent games. Garoppolo will start this Sunday against Seattle Seahawks at Lumen Field in Seattle (AP file photo)

On the 49ers podcast with J Hawkes:

#1 Joe, the San Francisco 49ers (6-5) above .500 having won three straight games and are looking like their back on track what would you say the Niners best chances are to have a shot at post season.

#2 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan says that it’s unlikely that he will insert back up quarterback Trey Lance into the line up anytime soon because it disrupts the play calling. So his obvious choice right now is to start and finish games with Jimmy Garoppolo.

#3 49ers offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel said that 49ers back up quarterback Trey Lance being the practice squad quarterback simulating the opponents’ quarterback gives Lance an opportunity to develop many facets of the game and gives him some developmental experience.

#4 Taking a look at the 49ers injury update: Wide receiver Jauan Jennings (groin), running back Trey Sermon (ankle), linebackers Fred Warner (hamstring) and Marcell Harris (concussion) did not practice and running back JaMycal Hasty (ankle), defensive tackle Maurice Hurst (calf) had limited practice time. Joe talk about how some of these players will be missed and how some might be limited today in Seattle.

#5 The 49ers take on the Seattle Seahawks (3-8) at Lumen Field today at 1:25pm. Seattle has lost three straight games most recently last Sunday to the Washington Football Team (5-6) 17-15. The Seahawks starting quarterback Russell Wilson has been struggling getting protection, getting time to throw and just executing in the red zone. How do you see the 49ers matching up against Wilson and the Seahawks today?
