San Francisco 49ers podcast with Jeremiah Salmonson: No secret Garoppolo and Lance will be rotating under center Sunday

Love the duds. San Francisco 49ers quarterbacks Jimmy Garoppolo in checkered sweater (left) and Trey Lance in checkered sweater (right) are the 49ers Brothers and will be sharing duties under center at Ford Field in Detroit on opening day Sun Sep 12, 2021 (image from Clutch Points)

On the 49ers podcast with Jeremiah:

#1 San Francisco 49ers quarterback Trey Lance participated in only three practices this week before the team flew off to Detroit. Head coach Kyle Shanahan said that Lance was doing good and that his limitations didn’t have anything to do with his index finger fracture.

#2 As opposed to the week right after injuring the finger where Lance was doing drop back drills without a football in hand he got to throw in practice on Wednesday. Lance has not spoken to the media since he fractured his hand against the Las Vegas Raiders on Sun Aug 29th.

#3 You can only imagine how the Lions are trying to figure out how the 49ers plan to use him on Sunday’s opener. Platooning quarterbacks no doubt will be confusing for Detroit especially since there is not much film on how they will run plays that will be available.

#4 Lance has been limited on play as he played just one game with North Dakota last season after all games were moved up to the spring league and played 16 games in 2019.

#5 In the final pre season game on Aug 29th starting quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo and Lance rotated with Garoppolo taking 14 snaps and Lance was in for ten plays. Shanahan plans to rotate them in the opener on Sunday and everyone is curious to see how that will look like.
