ANAHEIM–The Los Angeles Angels announced today that the Club has reached the 3 Million mark in home attendance for the 14th consecutive season, an active streak currently matched only by the New York Yankees(18 consecutive seasons).
Since joining the American League in 1961, the Angels have seen over 117 million fans attend their home games, a mark vested only by the New York Yankees(133 million)and Boston Red Sox(129 million), joining the Angels, in the 3-million club for 2016, the Blue Jays, Cardinals,Cubs, Dodgers, Giants and Yankees.
The Los Angeles Angels finished this season in fourth place, and were not a serious contender, their starting
pitching was decimated from the very start, Garrett Richards, Andrew Heaney and Nick Tropeano had season ending injuries. Albert Pujols, who will be 37 years old by next spring, had another very good season, played in 152 games hit .268 with 31 home runs and 119 runs batted in, he will not play the last three games of the season against the Astros here at Angel Stadium, and just underwent shock wave therapy in his right arch, the same issue that kept him out for a long time in 2015.
The Angels superstar Mike Trout is a contender for American League Most Valuable Player, although I believe Boston’s Mookie Betts will probably win that honor. Overall the 2016 season was another success at the gate, but the Angels have a lot of work to do to improve the club for the 2017 season. Mike Scioscia finishing his 17th season as skipper of the club (longest tenured manager in the game) should return next year.
