LOS ANGELES–Twelve-time Olympic medalist Ryan Lochte, who was part of the greatest swimming team to ever participate in an Olympic game was charged by the Brazilian Police with making a false report. We all heard this story over and over. NBC Matt Lauer’s interviewed Lochte as he apologized again and again for his behavior during the recent Olympic games. Lauer was excellent in his interview. I wish he was as good when he interviews today’s political candidates who make lying a sport on an everyday basis, some of them every four years, just like in the Olympics.
Lochte lost the following endorsements: Ralph Lauren, Speedo, Airweave, and Gentle Hair Removal, but he has a new sponsor(after what happened in Rio)with Pine Brothers throat lozenges and was invited to participate in the popular ABC show “Dancing With The Stars” and I will not be surprised he gets more endorsements in the future. Ryan Lochte’s childish behavior embarrassed his country and obviously himself, but as an American citizen he should have another chance. We all make mistakes. Everybody makes mistakes. Nobody is perfect, even if you want to be. People learn from their mistakes easily, but sometimes you will need help to learn from them. On the bright side, you should forgive the people who made mistakes and let them make it right.
It always amazes me how quickly some people want to crucify somebody after they make a mistake, we have politicians that admit they made a mistake and then they say “let’s move on, I won’t do it again”, and people give them a pass. But an Olympic medalist that represented the USA in the Olympics acts like a spoiled child and lies and we all come to conclusion that he should leave this planet and never comeback. Since when we, as Americans became like that?
Ryan Lochte was wrong in what he did, he knows it, he has apologized for his country and in front of the whole world. Now is time to move on, and let this man live the rest of his life, after all, he will always have to deal with what he did, and that by itself is punishment.
