by Jessica Kwong The Oakland Athletics fell 8-6 to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in the second contest of the series at Angel Stadium on Wednesday night. Oakland scored first, when Billy Butler grounded into a double play, with Yonder Alonso out on second base and Khris Davis scoring to give the A’s a 1-0 lead. Then the Angels’ Carlos Perez singled on a ground ball to second baseman Jed Lowrie and Andrelton Simmons scored to tie the game at 1-1.In the third inning, the A’s Stephen Vogt reached on a fielding error by Angels third baseman Yunel Escobar and Lowrie scored, putting Oakland up 2-1. But the Angels’ Mike Trout singled on a soft fly ball to right fielder Max Muncy and Escobar scored, tying the game again at 2-2.In the fourth inning, the A’s Ryon Healy doubled on a sharp fly ball to right fielder Kole Calhoun, defected by Trout and Alonso and Butler scored, giving the A’s a 4-2 lead. The Angels responded in the same inning again, with Marte hitting a home run on a fly ball to right center field and Cliff Pennington also hitting a homer on a fly ball to right center field, tying the contest at 4-4. In the fifth inning, Pujols doubled on a line drive to Muncy and Trout scored. Then the Angels’ Ji-Man Choi grounded out sharply and Pujols scored, giving the Angels a 6-4 lead. The A’s fought to tie the game. Lowrie walked and Davis scored in the eighth inning. In the ninth inning, Vogt singled on a line drive to left fielder Shane Robinson and Coco Crisp scored, bringing the score to 6-6. But the Angels’ designated hitter Pujols gave the A’s the kiss of death, driving a two-run, walk-off homer to left field to give Anaheim a 8-6 victory. Oakland (47-60) sits at last place in the American League west. First pitch for the third and final game in the series at Angel Stadium is at 4:05 p.m. Thursday.
