SAN DIEGO–The 87th MLB All Star Game, in my opinion the most consequential of all All Star Games in the main sports, went to the American League again, as they beat the National League 4-2. San Francisco pitcher Johnny Cueto lost the game for the National League while Cleveland pitcher Corey Kluber won it for the American League. Kansas City first baseman Eric Hosmer hit a two run home run and got a total of two hits to win the Chevrolet Most Valuable Player for the game and picked a Pick Up truck over a Camaro.
Since All Star Games determine which league has the home field advantage for the World Series, of the 14 All Star Games, 11 have been won by the American League. Six of the last seven World Series have been won by the team with home field advantage.
A new name for batting titles: Under new Commissioner Rob Manfred for the first time this season the batting titles for both leagues will be named after Rod Carew (American League) and Tony Gwynn (National League). In the American League it will be The Rod Carew Batting Title. Carew won seven batting titles. In the National League it will be the Tony Gwynn Batting Title. Gwynn won eight batting titles, all with the San Diego Padres.
More Commissioner news: Commissioner Rob Manfred said that the absence of a Latino manager in the majors is glaring. As of this All Star Game, there are no Latino managers among all 30 Major League teams. Earlier this season, the Atlanta Braves fired Freddie Gonzalez, born in Cuba, who was the only Latino manager in the majors at the start of the season.
The city of San Diego with the best temperature in the Continental United States was a great host and the weather did not disappoint and can you believe it’s almost 10:00 PM PDT at post game and 66 degrees in downtown San Diego.
The 88th All Star Game in 2017, will be held in Miami, Florida.
