San Jose Barracuda head coach Roy Sommer won his 634th career game and it came in grand fashion — a 2-1 overtime win over the San Diego Gulls on the road on Wednesday night.
Karl Stollery finished off a pass from Nikita Jevpalovs with less than 30 seconds remaining in overtime to notch the win for the Barracuda.
All goals were scored in the third period. The Barracuda struck first midway through the final frame on a one-timer by Nark Cundari. But shortly thereafter, the Gulls responded as Antoine Laganiere converted on a rebound to tie the game at 1-1.
While the first two periods were fill with scoring chances, lots of action, and a fight, neither team could score a goal. Barracuda goaltender Troy Grosenick fared well, making 24 stops including a crucial save on a penalty shot in the third.
The Barracuda advance to 17-10-3-3 on the season and are 3-0-1-0 against the Gulls. They have collected points in 11 of their last 12 games,
San Jose will now head to the midwest to take on the IceHogs in Rockford, Illinois on Friday.
