SAN FRANCISCO–Now that the Red Sox signed David Price for 7-years and $217 million, that is $31 million per year, the next big-time pitcher to be signed will probably be Zack Greinke, who is two years older than Price and the Los Angeles Dodgers(team that Greinke has pitched for and had sensational numbers)and the San Francisco Giants are now involved in a bidding war to sign Greinke.
Grienke probably be getting around $32 to $33 million dollars per year, as a starter who gives you 30-32 appearances that is one of the best jobs in the world. There is always a “surprise”team, but the two western divisional rivals are going for Zack Greinke, the Dodgers are trying to keep him as the best one-two-pitching combos with Clayton Kernshaw (and the Giants trying to put him together with Bumgarner. This could be the difference between the Dodgers winning a third consecutive divisional title, or the Giants keeping the World Series hopes every two years.
This could be a key week for Zack Greinke and his future, will the hated Dodger become a Giant? To get into a bidding war with the Los Angels Dodgers is not a winning proposition most of the time, but nonetheless, the Giants need solid starting pitching behind Bumgarner and guys like Jake Peavy and Mike Leake and even Tim Lincecum are really unpredictable and not getting much younger. Rookie pitcher Chris Heston(12-11 3.95)was a pleasant surprise for the Giants and he will be in their rotation, but he is not a “top of the rotation”type of guy, at least not in 2016, so the San Francisco team. Starting pitcher and an outfielder, (preferably a left fielder)are on the Giants #1Christmas list this month.
Zack Greinke’s deal could be done this week, and it is very possible he will stay in the NY West.
